Yes, you can and should. The DVD belong with the MBP. You should use the original DVD to erase the disk and install Snow Leopard prior to sale.
You can't sell it with Lion because it is authorized under your user ID.

No, here's what you want to do:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
       it to the Destination entry field.
5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
      the Source entry field.
6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
This process will first erase the external drive. The result is a bootable backup on the external drive.

I'm not entirely sure I follow you here, home sharing comes with iTunes 10.2, so far as I am aware even iTunes 10.6.1 only requires OS X 10.5.8 or better. On that basis I'm not sure why you think you have a problem.

This is really disappointing. Buy a $3,000 computer from them and then buy another one for $1,000+ and all they want to do is screw you over, nickle and dime you and price gouge you on setting it up.

How do I transfer files from my old MacBook Pro to my New MacBook Pro?

I am trying to transfer some files, not all, from my old MacBook Pro to my new MacBook Pro. I have tried to use Migration Assistant, but it doesn't let me choose what I want to transfer (only generic things like "users" and "files and folders"). I have tried to use Firewire. Now here is the funny thing. When I put my old mac in target mode it doesn't appear on my new mac anywhere. But, when I put my new mac in target mode, it pops right up on the dashboard and in finder. The problem is I have tried using my new mac as the target and just place the files into the icon, but the don't stay after I eject. I get a prompt that says downloading and when all files and apps are transferred I turn off my new mac then turn it back on and nothing. I've done search after search and repeated this process 3 times and nothing. Am I doing something wrong? Please help.

Time Machine will not "overwrite". New back ups are added to what is there, without erasing.
Connect the Time Machine back up, double click on the icon and navigate through its contents - the back ups are chronological, so you just select the date then go through the contents just like on any other drive. You can select any files you want and drag and drop on the new Mac's desktop (or anywhere else).

Did they mention Migration Assistant? You can use MA with FireWire, limit is the speed of the older unit. MA will guide you and allow you to choose what to transfer.

Why are old Snow Leopard services showing up in a clean install of Lion?

I perfomed a clean install of Lion on the internal backup drive of my Mac Pro. Very clean indeed,...I even zero'd the disk before starting. I ran Snow Leopard for a few days after that while I got Lion up and running, and eventually mirrored my Lion install back over to may main boot SSD,...eliminating Snow Leopard altogether. At no point did I follow any of the optional offers to migrate or transfer data from a previous install of any other OS.
And things seemed fine until yesterday, when I noticed services for apps that I have never installed (on Lion) appearing in the contextual menu of files. In other words, if I option click on a .zip archive, I get the option under "services" to "Extract with BetterZip".
What? Just wondering how this could happen, and if this cruft somehow made it through...what else? I did of course run BetterZip in 10.6,...but, I am stumped to account for how it's been added to the pool of services in Lion.
Ideas? And/or tips for removing these legacy services?

How do I reverse sync from 4s to MacBook Pro?

So I got nearly 200 songs, not much.
So I wanna sync them from my phone, which is a 4S, to my brand new MacBook Pro (I got it last night xD).
Problem is, about 160 of them are not iTunes purchased, they were downloaded from YouTube to my desktop, and well yea. I tried Sepuni or something like that, but it wouldn't transfer everything in playlist forms. I am very OCDish on my music. I keep it very organized, and I wanna keep it that way, and it took me about and hour and half to rename all the files and move them into folders in my Music folders, and double the time for iTunes. *sigh*
So basically, how do I get all my music onto my Mac the way it's organized on my phone without paying for anything?

Easy. You copy the whole iTunes folder from the computer with which you previously synced to the new computer, replacing the empty iTunes folder there, then start iTunes. Otherwise you may well be out of luck, and that goes double if you expect these utilities to be free on the Mac platform. Oh, you can export the playlists from the iOS device, but that's just the text listing, not a complete package of playlist and media.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

How do I move Photos from PC to Macbook Pro

Just purchased LR 2 and a new Macbook Pro. After two weeks, glad I did it, but its about to give me Brain overload. I've read 4-5 books and watched a dozen videos.
I just installed 2 Ext HDs and want to put my catalog, library on one Ext. HD and Backup on the next. One of the reasons I havn't used LR 2 yet and reading all these books is, I want to set it right the first time, hoping it will give me few problems in the future.
I've searched these forums, but cannot find a question with my problem. I'm now going from Lightroom on PC to lightroom on a Mac, or PSE to LR 2.
I'm going from a PC that has all my photos in the My Pictures folder. Most are Jpegs, a few canon raw. (about 2,000 )
My questions are
1. When I read to format the Ext HD's to the Macbook, I did and this cleared them out. No folders or files. Will LR 2 auto put a folder in each HD called lightroom photos or will I have to do that manually. If I have to do it, since I'm new to Mac, how do I do that?
2. I have a third 500 GB Ext HD that I have my music on and I have about 100 gigs blank. I can move my photos over to this drive on the PC and import them into the mac using LR 2? Since I havn't started LR 2 yet, I read that I can hold down the "alt" key and the Mac, start LR 2, and it will ask me "where I want to put my catalog. After I tell it the Ext HD, will it do everything automatic, or will I have to do more setup.

The synced photos should be in an album in the "Albums" tab of your iPod.
As long as you did not transfer the synced photos to your computer do on no account activate "iCloud Photo Library Beta" on your iPad. That will wipe all synced photos from the iPad.
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
Email them from the device to yourself.
Copy them from the emails to your computer.

My wife just finished uni and has no need for her laptop any longer. I have an iMac that she has created a user account on and now uses this more than her macbook pro. We want to give her macbook away so someone can use it however im not sure how to move everything from her macbook pro to my imac and her user account.
Im not even sure if this is possible. Ive tried the Migration assistant but im scared i will wipe my iMac and everything i have on it.
Basically we both want to use the same computer, 2 different user accounts and she doesnt want to lose anything she had on her macbook pro.
I would appreciate some help =)

On the iMac log into your wife's account, then open System Preferences and select the Sharing tab. In the left window pane select File Sharing and look at the top to see the iMac's name. Then log in on her notebook and open a Finder window. In the sidebar to the left you should see Favorites and a list of folders, Devices and a couple of items, and then Shared and under shared you should see the iMac's name you saw previously. Click on it and the Finder window will change, a dark bar will appear near the top and to the right in that dark bar you should see a Connect button. Your wife should enter her account name on the iMac and her password. Now the window should display a short list of folders, one of which has the name of her account. Click on it and you'll see the folders on the iMac. Now she can simply drag and drop files from the notebook to the folders of the iMac.
Note: if there aren't too many files it may be simpler to just use a flash drive.

Mds and spotlight have been slowing it down to a standstill for months. Initially I was told by an Apple Store Genius to rebuild my spotlight index, which helped for a short while before the computer reverted back to it's normal slowness. Then I suspected Time Machine's constant backups were the culprit, so two weeks ago I stopped those and started running nightly backups using a program called "Time Machine Editor". The computer was running great until today. Most of the suggestions I've seen for this problem are either 1) Reindex spotlight, which I've done multiple times to no avail, or 2) Turn off Spotlight, which is not an option since I spend most of my time in iPhoto, a program for which Spotlight is crucial. I also don't want to do a full OS reinstallation because it would take too long and I doubt it would be effective in this situation. I have a feeling that there is one file or set of files that is messing up Spotlight, is there any way I could find these specific files and get them to stop messing everything up? Or do you have any other suggestions? Restarts don't help either.

How do I transfer content from DVR to Macbook Pro via Firewire?

I need help. I want to transfer my recorded shows off of my Comcast Motorolo DVR to my Macbook Pro, Version 10.9.1. I've done some youtube searches and the ones that I find say I need AVCVideocapand that I can get it from downloading Firewire SDK 2.6. So I downloaded firewire SDK 2.6 and when I try to open it I get an error saying it can't be open because it's from an unknow developer. So then I downloaded the lastest XCode software but still no AVCVideocap. I have the 9 pin plug of firewire plugged into the back of my DVR and the othere end of firewire, 6pin, connected to my Mac. Should I be seeing anything on my desktop, like new device or something? Please help. Thanks in advance, Joey

To run the installer, press the Control key and click the installer, and choose Open.
