Olivia, hopefully by now you have solved your issue but just for the sake of answering that question here so that people having the same issue can later find it I'll go through the motions:
there are a couple of ways you can achieve this.
A. get a certificate for free out there
B. generate your own self signed "fake" certificate.
certutil will certainly let you do this, here's how:
1. First, create a file/directory layout to store your certificates
mkdir -p /path/to/certificates/selfsignedCA2. Initialize a database for the certificate you want to create
certutil -N -d /path/to/certificates/selfsignedCA -P "ca-"3. Create a self-signed CA certificate
certutil -S -x -n "ca-cert" -s "cn=SelfSigned CA Certificate,dc=yourSuffix" -t CTPu -v 120 -d /path/to/certificates/selfsignedCA -P "ca-" -5Note: when prompted, select choice (5) SSL CA and 'y' for critical extensions
4. Export the your newly created self-signed CA certificate in PEM format
certutil -L -d /path/to/certificates/selfsignedCA -P "ca-" -n "ca-cert" -a > /path/to/certificates/selfsignedCA.pemthat should get you going

How useful is XML for accesing a server

Suppose I have a client applet that makes a query to a server application with this small protocol:
CLIENT: Send a date (user inputs it in his own locale format, so client applet encodes it as an integer: 2 bytes for year, 1 for month and 1 for day)
SERVER: Send a response byte
CLIENT:interprets response as a success / error, and shows an appropiate message to the user in his own language and locale.
How would XML help in this?

If you control both the client (applet) and the server, then XML is not necessairly the best solution.
XML provides a flexible decoupling mechanisim that allows both the sender and receiver to restructure the message. This is very important when you:
1. Intend to interface with a client you have no control over.
2. Intend to interface with a server you ahve no control over.
3. Intend to develop your client and your server independently.
4. Intend to deploy updates to your client and server independently.
If the client is downloaded from the server (as in an applet situation), the you basically control both the client and the server at the same time (in the webserver). So most of these issues don't really exist. However, if you perceive that future plans for your product would allow independent control of the client and the server, or have to interface to other clients that you do not control, then it may be better to consider an XML coupling from the beginning.
Note that using XML is not enough, you should evaulate and plan for how the XML message should be allowed to grow so you will not design your XML message in ways that are too inflexible (preventing you from upgrading the client or the server independently) or too abstract (preventing undertanding of the message without explicit knowledge of the internals of the client and / or the server).
One example of the "too abstract" trap is deciding to make every element in the XML message esentially the same, that is, a message of "Objects" where there is no understanding of what that object is without having the .class file around to unpack it.

Can anybody tell me How to setup the SSL on Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2).
I have all the required documents like
1. Oracle Application Server Portal Server Configuration Guide.
2. Oracle Application Server Web Cache Configuration Guide.
3. Oracle Application Server SSO Administration Guide.
I tried to follow all this documents but still i am not able to set SSL for Oracle Portal Server.

The Portal Configuration Guide, available on OTN at http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/appserver1012.html does provide some very specific information on how to set up OracleAS Portal.
Section 6.3.2.1 Configuring SSL for OracleAS Portal describes various configurations, such as:
SSL to OracleAS Single Sign-On
SSL to OracleAS Web Cache
SSL Throughout OracleAS Portal
External SSL with Non-SSL Within Oracle Application Server
For larger enterprise configurations, you can refer to the Enterprise Deployment Guide.
Can you give a bit more background on what you are trying to set up? Which scenario, what sort of hardware, software versions, and so on.

My application is using SunONE's C API to communicate with the Identity Server.
In order to enable SSL, I have changed the following lines in amconfig.properties:

com.sun.am.policy.am.loginURL = https://id01.core.development.net:443/amserver/UI/Login
com.sun.am.policy.am.library.loginURL = https://id01.core.development.net:443/amserver/UI/Login
After operating these changes, everything continued to work fine...but then, I checked with a network sniffer what data is being sent to IS:
- The login and naming data were over SSL
- Policy and session items were plain HTTP
My questions are:
1. How to enable SSL for policy evaluation requests?
2. How to enable SSL for sessionservice requests?
3. What are the changes required on the server/client?

Setting up Mail at work for an Exchange Server.

I am currently using Microsoft Office 2004 Entourage at my work place and want to use Mail as it is much easier. However, I feel like I have tried everything and still can not get it to work correctly. I have all the settings the same as it is set up in Entourage for an Exchange server, but it will not work. We have access to our email from the internet and I tried setting it up as a POP account with those settings, but still... it doesn't work. Our IT guys here are no help at all. Can anyone help me out??

So, what is the connector version should i use Microsoft 2010 exchange.
can i install 11.1.1.5.0.Any help would be appreciated.
Also please provide the minimum details which are required to connect to target exchange server or please suggest us some doc.

Edge role is design for perimeter networks, to keep security risks minimum. So it’s not recommended to have edge role in internal network. Must have separate network or subnet for edge services.
If you are playing around it in labs, then you can put edge role within same subnet as other exchange roles and no specific requirements in that case.

What would be the preferred LUN congfiguration for a virtualized Exchange server. It will be a 2 server multi-role configuration on a 3 node hyper-v cluster. 1 LUN per database. Exchange servers will not be configured to be highly available. Failover on
application level.
1. Present the LUN as an iscsi target to the hyper-v host and create a VHD on it for the Exchange server.
Benefit: VHDX is flexible
Drawback: No snapshotting of database via backup app etc.
2. Present the LUN as a pass-through disk to the Exchange server via the Hyper-v host
Benefit: no hyper-v overhead?
Drawback: not flexible
3. Add a vnic to the Exchange server and configure the iscsi initiator on the exchange server.
Benefit: no hyper-v overhead
Drawback: Little more complex configuration
Which one is best? I would prefer option 2, but I might miss something?

Honestly, it's tough to say which one is the best option, b\c it really depends on you and your environment. I typically do deployments on Vmware and not Hyper-v as alot of the clients I work with already have VMWare entrentched in their environment,
but it's really the same concept. Typically we use option 1, where we let Vmware handle the iSCSI connections to the SAN and we present the storage to the VM as vmdk file. Option 1 eliminates the complexity and is usually the easiest to configure
for people and allows for easy administration.
Since you mentioned backup snapshots, I would stay away from option 2. Depending on the method and application you are using for backup passthrough disks can cause issue. If you were initiating the hardware snapshot from inside the VM I believe
that would fail with a passthrough disk as well since the guest is not communicating directly to the SAN.
Option 3 would allow you to take hardware snapshots of the drives that the database reside on and you would do all the management of the device from the SAN level. This would be the most complicated to set up since you have to zone it out and make
sure the guest can communicate with the SAN.
If it was me, I would probably deploy option 1 since that usually seems to be the easiest to manage and configure and in my experience, the less complex you make something, the easier it is to manage.

it's less powerful than your average computer. THink of it like a netbook but with a better processor.
It'll do fine for surfing (although if you browse a lot of flash based sites you will need to get a third party browser since safari doesn't accommodate it)
You may do OK on reading books, papers or magazines, especially if they have apps, but the ipad's screen is backlit, so it doesn't work well outdoors and you may need to fiddle with the brightness so that you don't get eye strain (it's just like doing too much reading from a computer screen)
I would say the biggest short comings are data transfer. Apple's preferred work flow is that everything is done via iTunes or the internet....well people dont' always have 100% reliable always on internet access so you can find yourself in a situation where you can't get things on/off the iPad.
By and large, it's a good device for day to day stuff, but is not a computer replacement.

I dont think you can do this, because you have to name/url of the web application in realm. You have to add new realm for each web application.here is script to add another realm.

Can i use vps's for linux edge server's???

I can stream to edge server on fme------>windows7-edge ------> origin-linux-dedicated--and or--vps------>website works...
but cant do fme---->linix-edge-vps------>linux-orgin-dedicated--or----vps------>website Doesnt work
nore can i do fme------>linux-edge-vps--->windows7-origin---->website Doesnt work
All using latest centos tried and same results with ununtu
so am i out of luck for using vps's?

yeah no that doesn't work but get this...
when i publish to windows edge server the signal gets sent to origin vps then to viewers...
but if i make windows origin and vps edge server is does not work dont understand why this is happening

I agree load balancing part but load balancing should be done in context of subscribing and not in terms of publishing. You can do failover in context of publishing using Multi-point publish.
If you publish directly to origin and then introduce edge servers for subscribing do you still face issue.
I mean if you set up your linux VPS as edge and then subscriber goes through that edge - say like rtmp://linuxedge/?rtmp://origin/live - does this work?
Can you try that out and let me know.

There's a pre-release build of the exchange collector available for
2010, just contact NTS.
If you need a full formal release, we're looking to have 2010 and 2013
support by approximately mid-year.

I'm looking for a possibility to use the iPad for photography while traveling, without the access to a computer.
Shooting photo's in RAW format crates pretty big files that will fill up the iPad's memory pretty fast if you shoot a lot during a (let's say) month long trip.
my idea was to use load the photo's to the iPad so i could view them and sort out any bad ones. then copy them over to the storage device so i can continue using my CF cards for shooting. I have an image thank for copying the photo's directly to the HDD but it would be so sweet to be able to check them on the iPad before hand.
any suggestions?

Check out pogo plug device, it allows you to upload camera roll via wifi.
