How we will update data in datasources

hi gurus,
how we will update data in data sources say salesorder header data,
delivery&billing data and how can we link all these.
i think my question is not correct, but i am gettin doubt
please clear anybody it will helpful for me

We have different data sources for sales order header, sales order item level, delvivyer hedear level, delivery item....
The data will be updated based on Sales order number, delvery number etc..
Whatever changes you do a sales order, it has a unique number. WIth this as primary key all the related updates are maintained.
Even for sales order item detail, we refer the header number of sales order and do the updates

Tim's example returning all the attributes of current user which is admin user. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I have the following information:
the admin user and password,server info , port and ldap_base for admin.
I have uid and password for regular user, I am trying find the ldap_base for regular user, which may be different from adminuser.

Hi
When you have to upload using BDC, always use char type fields.
For date, use date(10) type c.
write sy-datum to date. Date will be as per using setting, either mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy...
For currency also, you need to declare as
data1(15) type n and
data2(15) type c.
Now suppose you have a value 12545421.91 . As per user setting it can be 12545421,91.
In this case, first push the value to NUMC type.
data1 = 1254521.91 and then data2 = data1 / 100.
This will change it in required format and can be populated in the bdc table.

I have requirement such that i need to update certain key figures in DSO after certain time.
for eg. say record with key a is loaded to DSO and currospoding key figure was loaded with value 10
after few days because of certain parameters changing in system i need to modify key figure value.
currently i am doing same using 1 self transformation i.e. by loading same data again in same DSO.
Amount of data is very huge and causing performance issues in system.
now A is not key but i need to modify record for few combinations which apperar multiple times in DSO.
Same DSO data is loaded into Cube regularly.
I may need to update data after gap of few weeks as well.
This design will be used as template and needto keep whole logic generic.
So wring Function module can make it generic.

Best practice how to retrieve & update data w/o any jsf-lifecycle-overhead

I have a request scoped jsf managed bean called "ManagedBean". This bean has a method annotated with "@PostConstruct" that retrieves data from a database. The data is shown in a jsp "showAndEditData.jsp" in <h:inputText /> components - so the data is editable.
The workflow is as follows:
First, when navigating to "showAndEditData.jsp", the ManagedBean is created, the "@PostConstruct"-method is invoked, and the data retrieved from the database is shown to the user.
Second, the user changes the data.
Third, the user presses the submit button, the ManagedBean is created again, the "@PostConstruct"-method is invoked again, and the data is retrieved from the database again. Then the data is overridden by the changes the user made and passed to the business-tier (where it will be saved to the database).
Every step that i marked with "*again*" is completely unneccessary and a huge overhead.
Is there a way to prevent these unneccessary steps.
Or asking in other words: Is there a best practice how to retrieve and update data efficently and without any overhead using JSF?
I do not want to use session scoped managed beans, because this would be a huge overhead as well.

The first "again" is neccessary, because after successfull validation, you need new object in request to store the submitted value.
I agree to the second and third, really unneccessary and does not make sense.
Additionally I think it�s bad practice putting data in session beansTotal agree, its a disadvantage of JSF that we often must use session.
Think there is also an bigger problem with this.
Dont know how your apps are working, my apps start an new database transaction per commit on every new request.
So in this case, if you do an second query on postback, which uses an different database transaction, it could get different data as for the inital request.
But user did his changes <b>accordingly</b> to values of the first snapshot during the inital request.
If these values would be queried again on postback, and they have been changed meanwhile, it becomes inconsistent, because values of snapshot two, do not fit to user input.
In my opionion zebhed has posted an major mistake in JSF.
Dont now, where to store the data, perhaps page scope could solve this.
Not very knowledge of that section, but still ask myself, if this data perhaps could be stored in the components and on an postback the data are rendered from components + submittedvalues instead of model.

How to read updated data from a real-time generated file?

Hi,
I think there is no "typical" way. You will have to define a convention on how the new data are stored into the file, so as to know how to accessthem. If new data are simply put at theend of your file, you may use a RandomAccessFile to read only those lines that interest you (the 1 final lines).Otherwise, you should at least know how the data file is written.
You can know if thedata file has been modified with the File.lastModified() method. This retrurns a long value corresponding to the date and hour the file was last modified. Store that value ito you appl. and perdiodically (use a Thread), compare that value with the value returned by lastModief(). If both value are NOt equal, then the file has been updated
it's all a question of knowing how the data are stored into the datafie generated.
Be also aware that you will probably have problem when your java appl. tries to read the file at the same time it is updated by the other application. I guess when theother application writes data into the file, you will not be able to read it. So, use try{} catch statements and first check to see if you can read the file with File. canRead(). If not, simply delay the reading process by asking a Thread.yield() or Thread.delay (1000)...

i am trying to build a client/server architecture for conducting quizzes & online tests.. My client will return a object to the server after the test is over, which contains details about the participant, his score and other details. i am putting the incoming object to an Vector. I'll create a new thread each time for the incoming connection and insert the object to the Vector.. updated whenever a new object is entered into vector..You don't update the Vector directly. You should be creating a method in your TableModel, called "addRow(...)". This method will do two things:
a) add the Student object to the Vector
b) invoke the fireTableRowsInserted(..) method of AbstractTableModel. This will cause the table to be repainted.

I have to insert/update a date column while creating a new item, but the problem is i am able to insert/update only date but i need both date and time along with AM/PM.
By using these 3 lines i am able to insert/update only date.

Below code retrives the date exactly what i need but unable to pass in the statement:

Error is:

If you want something which matches an SQL TIMESTAMP colum (which includes both date and time components) then you should use a java.sql.Timestamp object.

In bdc flat file having 10 records.but 5th record having error.in call transaction how many records will update.

If u set the mode as 'A'.
U will see all the screens when the processing is being done.
If u set the mode as 'E'
U will see the screen only if the screen has errors or else the processing will take place internally.
If u set the mode as 'N'
U will not see any screen irrespective of error or success.
These modes are regarding the processing for foreground.
Now coming to ur example :-
If u set the the update process as one of the below :
update> : Update mode:
S Synchronous
A Asynchronous
L Local update
Let's see :-
If u set as S
the update will happen if it's error free
If u set as A iirespective of the errors all the records will get updated
If u set as 'L'
This is with respect to number of Application servres.

I'm looking for a way to update the values of data fields in a merged document with a script just as you can do with the user interface.
I don't find any method like "updateDataFields ()" in the DataMerge object.
Si I try to invoke the menu action "Update Data Fields", but it fails. The script error message is: "Error 53762, the script is not active." On the contrary, the action works if I use the interface.
Can anyone help me?
