How well does Compressor 4 work with Final Cut 6?

How well does Compressor 4 work with Final Cut 6?

The short answer is that there is no interoperability between them. Of course, you can certainly export a QT movie from FCP and bring it into C4.
Honestly, I'm not sure it's worth it for someone already has C3. There is very little that C4 can do that C3 cannot. The major differences are that C4 has certain presets like  MPEG 4 h.264 and 1080 Apple TV; it can also create simple Blu Rays and DVDs. Qmaster is integrated, but I'm not sure whether that is a gain.

Yes, Compressor adds several codecs, which can also be used in FCE (decoding and encoding using QuickTime Conversion) and in QuickTime player. Most notably these are MPEG-2 and ProRes. The latter is an editing-friendly Intraframe-Codec useful for preprocessing stuff for importing clips to FCE, particularly if it has a different framerate from the FCE project.
I'm also still using FCE 3.5(*) and the "Export using Compressor" menu option remains grayed out, which is a pity, but the new codecs can still be used. I mostly use it to make stuff for DVDs, using my ancient and cumbersome iDVD.
(*) It really works on Lion, provided you have installed it on a previous Mac OS release and then migrated or upgraded to Lion: the installer is a PowerPC program, but the installed program is Universal and works fine and very stable. If you already have Lion, and no older (Snow) Leopard machine, it's going to be more of a challenge, since the Lion kernel no longer supports PowerPC binaries, so Rosetta won't work.

  • Does Compressor 4 work with final cut express 3.5?

I have never used Compressor before.
I am currently using Final Cut 3.5 and too deep into various projects to even THINK about moving to FInal Cut X at this point and sacrificing my productivity while I learn it.
But I think I need to learn Compressor for a particular job or two and was wondering if the latest version works with the older FCE.
    Thanks
I am running 10.6.8 on a brand new 27" 3.1 Ghz Intel Core i5 with 4 GB of memory.

  • Does Mackie Control work with Final Cut 7 when using USB MIDI?

I have a Mackie Control Universal Pro connected via USB to my mac and it works GREAT with Logic and all the complimentary Logic Studio software.
The problem I am having is, when I try to use it with Final Cut, it wont work at all. I have read the post concerning this that was answered by Andy Mees but, I dont use a true MIDI connection, only USB.
    Any thoughts?

No one will know until FCP 7 is released.

  • Does Motion 5 work with Final Cut Express?

I need to know before I make the purchase. Thanks.

Motion 5 does not work with FCP (i.e. does not interact) so I very much doubt it will work with FCE.
Saying that, as I have mentioned in another thread you can still output your movie with transparency and import into FCE above a background etc.  There is no send to etc..........

  • How well does iWorks 06 work with iLife 5?

I may not upgrade to iLife 6. I may upgrade iWork however. Apple recomends iLife 6, so I am interested if any users have it running on iLife 5. I would like to here about it.
    Thanks Ed

I got both iLife 06 and iWork 06 today.
I've only experimented a little bit, but one thing I did check out was cut-and-paste from pages to iweb. For a table and a movie and an outline it worked very well. This may be useful.
Both pages 2.0 and iWeb are somewhat better than I had been led to believe.
Also, for me a big improvement in pages is that, when you export to pdf, web links remain intact. I'll certainly be using that.

  • How well does Adobe Air work with the MacBook Pro?

If I install a program that uses Adobe Air will it affect my MacBook Pro?

I have several other Macromedia applications - but not Air. But if the other applications are an indication, boot is going to be slow (around a minute); Air's dependence on Flash will guarantee relatively slow performance. As you know, most other applications boot in seconds.
Your best solution would be to download the free part of the programs to determine if you find the performance acceptable.

  • How well does ESET security work with Mac ML?

As you might imagine, without knowing a ton of information about the actual construction of the walls and ceiling of your home.....how many walls and other obstructions would be in the signal path of each device.....and the distance between each device and the AirPort Express.....along with how many users would be online at one time or another and what activities they would be involved in......etc., it's really not possible to accurately predict what type of results you might achieve.
The bottom line with any wireless installation is that you really won't know how effectively it will actually perform until you try it.
My opinion would be that you will likely need to add an additonal AirPort Express to "extend" the wireless more effectively to the bottom floor. But again, the same things apply as above.

  • Does iZotope Ozone 4 work with Final Cut?

    Hello all:
I have been hearing good things about an audio mastering plugin called Ozone 4. I would like to use it in Final Cut Pro to fix audio gremlins on the fly (or even add them).
I tried downloading the trial version but that proved to be a frustrating experience as a pop up window kept, well, popping up. The infernal thing kept asking me for serial numbers, etc.
The Ozone parameter did show up in the audio filters pulldown on the FCP menu so at least I know it was recognized.
So before I shell out the dough can someone let me know if Ozone 4 actually works with Final Cut.
I have emailed IZotope but apparently they don't talk to mortals.
    Here are my specs:
Mac G5 (Power PC dual processor)
    Mac OS 10.4.11
    FCP version 6.06
    Many thanks
    A

I've been using Ozone for years. It is a fantastic tool. However forget about running it in Final Cut. There is no way you will be able to get the most out of it manipulating sliders in the Filters Tab of the Viewer. Final Cut does not run the native UI's for plugins.
Your best best is to install the plugin and use it in Soundtrack Pro. You will have access to the full Ozone interface and controls. You can Export out through it in a Multitrack Project or apply processing parameters to files (Process/Effects/iZotope/Ozone 4) in the Audio File (Wave Editor) workspace.

  • Working with final cut x (10.0.9) on macbook pro want to add compressor cannot download 4- where can I download 3

working with final cut x (10.0.9) on macbook pro want to add compressor cannot download 4… where can I download 3?

It has been available at some online retailers (Amazon) and EBay – but only as part of the discontinued Final Cut Studio suite. It would be cost--prohibitive to buy and there are other more cost-effective solutions. Depending on what you need to do, MPEG Streamclip might be a (free) solution. There are others – Episode, for example, which is not cheap at $500– but less than haf the cost of buying an used copy of FCS.
Another approach (and the one I would follow in your situation) would be to install Mavericks on an external, bootable drive. Run a copy of FCP 10.1 and Compressor 4.1 from that drive.
    Good luck.
