How well does iWorks 06 work with iLife 5?

I may not upgrade to iLife 6. I may upgrade iWork however. Apple recomends iLife 6, so I am interested if any users have it running on iLife 5. I would like to here about it.
Thanks Ed

I got both iLife 06 and iWork 06 today.
I've only experimented a little bit, but one thing I did check out was cut-and-paste from pages to iweb. For a table and a movie and an outline it worked very well. This may be useful.
Both pages 2.0 and iWeb are somewhat better than I had been led to believe.
Also, for me a big improvement in pages is that, when you export to pdf, web links remain intact. I'll certainly be using that.

How well does Compressor 4 work with Final Cut 6?

The short answer is that there is no interoperability between them. Of course, you can certainly export a QT movie from FCP and bring it into C4.
Honestly, I'm not sure it's worth it for someone already has C3. There is very little that C4 can do that C3 cannot. The major differences are that C4 has certain presets like  MPEG 4 h.264 and 1080 Apple TV; it can also create simple Blu Rays and DVDs. Qmaster is integrated, but I'm not sure whether that is a gain.

  • How well does Adobe Air work with the MacBook Pro?

If I install a program that uses Adobe Air will it affect my MacBook Pro?

I have several other Macromedia applications - but not Air. But if the other applications are an indication, boot is going to be slow (around a minute); Air's dependence on Flash will guarantee relatively slow performance. As you know, most other applications boot in seconds.
Your best solution would be to download the free part of the programs to determine if you find the performance acceptable.

I'm running the MOUTAIN LION sysytem and I purchased the ESET CyberSecurity sofware from the Apple store.  It never mentioned that it wasn't compatibale , (only for 10.5 & 10.7) until I tried to download the program.  What do you suggest?

As you might imagine, without knowing a ton of information about the actual construction of the walls and ceiling of your home.....how many walls and other obstructions would be in the signal path of each device.....and the distance between each device and the AirPort Express.....along with how many users would be online at one time or another and what activities they would be involved in......etc., it's really not possible to accurately predict what type of results you might achieve.
The bottom line with any wireless installation is that you really won't know how effectively it will actually perform until you try it.
My opinion would be that you will likely need to add an additonal AirPort Express to "extend" the wireless more effectively to the bottom floor. But again, the same things apply as above.

  • How well does iWork 06 read old iWork 05 files?

I am thinking about buying iWork 06. How well does it read your old iWork files? Any problems?
    Thanks

There are some problems, although minor and solveable, and depending how you've been formatting your work in Pages 1.
Pages 2 will overwrite any leading or multiple mid-line spaces you may have used as a workaround - e.g., to produce a drop cap (or majuscule) in Pages 1. These have to be replaced with "non-breaking spaces," referred to in the onscreen help on "invisibles" - and listed with the keyboard shortcuts. The shortcut for the "non-breaking space" is Option / Space.
There are also slight variations in how Pages 2 treats pagination. This is particularly evident if you've used the "baseline adjustment" to produce "leading" i.e., to make adjacent columns or facing pages exactly the same depth. This can need small adjustment after importing, although there is little consistency about it. Some pages will vary; others not.
There is also a minor and infrequent bug in Pages 2's justification, which I have reported to Apple. Just once in a while, it will leave a space inside the right hand margin, instead of justifying all the way to it. With "invisibles" on it is easy to see if this has happened or you just have a double space.
In short there may be some reworking to do in some documents.
However it is not the case that importing from Pages 1 to Pages 2 is irretrievable. You can (1) slightly rename your document when saving in Pages 2 - so that the Pages 1 document is not overwritten, or (2) save a Pages 2 document as a Pages 1 document - in which case any new features of Pages 2 that have been used will be lost; but the rest of the document survive.
I would recommend using method (1) above until you are completely satisfied that your documents are successfully migrated; and only then consider removing Pages 1 from your system.
    Regards.

  • How well does website filter work in parental controls?

    Hello there,
I'm curious to know how well the adult filter works ok the ios7 built in parental controls. I noticed they have a websites option now to filter different levels of the internet. Does this also work across the entire device in 3 party in app browsers?
    Thanks,
    LJ

They work pretty good, & are across the device. Read here:

Just be aware, crafty kids can figure out a way to bypass pretty much anything they want. Just get in the habit of regularly checking the device.

  • Does iMovie 06 Work with iLife 08

I have a PM G4, PM G5 (SP 1.8) and a PB G4 1.25. From what I have read, I am convinced that iMovie 08 will not install on any of my macs.
    See this link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
I'm curious to know if iMovie 06 will work with the various components of iLife 08. If so it would be worth it for me to purchase iLife 08 since I only do SD video, have no interest in HD video and that way I could use the iPhoto, iweb etc components of iLife 08 with iMovie 06.
If it dosen't work with the other components of iLife 08 then I'll not but it. I'll wait until after Leopard is out in October and then buy a new iMac with Leopard and iLife 08 installed. Also by then the bugs in iLife 08 should also be documented and even some updates released..
    Anyone know?
    Thanks,
    Bob

Thanks Len and everyone who has provided input!!! I'm feeling much better that those of us who have older but still fine running macs with the ability to run leopard when it is released will still be able to use iLife 08 via iMovie 06.
Here is one final question before I mark this solved. I understand that when you install iLife 08 it leaves iMovie 06 intact. But does it upgrade the remaining components of iLife 06 to iLife 08? I have been in the habit of saving my current iLife suite as iLifeXX old and then doing an install of the new version of iLife. This way I would still have the old version to revert to and also have it available if I still had some old iMovie/iDVD projects that were still in the works.
It is very encouraging Len that you were able to successfully import an iMovie 06 project into iLife 08.
Just want to be sure before I do the install and all (except iMovie) of my iLife 06 apps have been replaced with iLife 08 apps.
Again, thanks for all the good news.
    Bob

  • How well does the MacBook do with streaming video?

I'm thinking about getting a MacBook - the main use would be to hook it up to my HDTV and watch streaming video, etc. Other than that, it'd be used lightly - no gaming, just browsing the internet, email, and possibly word processing. I've checked a lot of the posts and the graphics card (GMA x3100) doesn't seem to be too popular. I used a Mac Mini (GMA 950) for a while and was not impressed - it simply didn't seem to be able to handle it because the download stream would stop (spinning wheel) regularly and only resume occasionally and I have none of those problems with either the iMac or the MBP.
I'd appreciate some input from someone who has used it for this purpose.

Three months ago I bought a MacBook black which had the GMA graphics processor, mainly to stream HD (1080p) content to a projector. It worked with all 720p movies I watched, but with 1080p content it sometimes stuttered and ran slowly on some of the more bandwidth heavy scenes. I replaced this a couple of weeks ago with the new Aluminium MacBook with the NVIDIA GeForce9400M graphics card, and this now works with every movie so far.

  • Does iWork 08 work with Mountain Lion?

I've just moved up to Mountain Lion and was wondering if I can go on using iWork 08, especially Pages.
Will I need to purchase the latest version 09?

    John,
I'm happy for you even though I now feel like even more of a schmuck. When I installed the new 09 numbers, it immediately purged the 08 version so I couldn't go back to check even if I wanted. And of course, in keeping with what has become default Apple OS behavior, there was no cautionary window announcing that Numbers '08 would be deleted, offering me a choice. The choice was made for me, because Apple Knows Best.
I'll probably always own, and love, a mac; I've done so since the 80's. But my love has matured. I'm waiting on a new $249 chromebook, which should arrive tomorrow. It's my first non-mac machine since my old osborne, since my SE-30. I now own a rooted nook tablet and a galaxy phone, not an iphone or an ipad. I'm as excited as a schoolboy about unwrapping my slim new chromebook.
Jobs, in his final days at Apple, became interested in corporate architecture  –– he began to focus on how companies could fit together instead of how products and people fit together. Not that I wouldn't have done the same thing, given the power and the ability. It seems a natural evolution, to manipulate big chunks of society rather than mere individuals. But it's the Joni Mitchell syndrome. When he was hungry and aching, he was Everyman great. Once he knew he was great, he became self-indulgent. It's all still great work –– it's just not great work I have a passion for. I am, after all, still just an individual.
I approache Everything Apple with suspicion and trepidation now, from the new un-openable macbook pros and imacs to the software that controls my digital universe. Apple is about control. I still like freedom when I create. This little episode simply widens the gap between me and the love of my youth.

  • How well does the MBP work for gameplay?

Now I know what you're thinking. If I'm solely looking for a gaming computer than I should get a computer solely for gaming, but this is not the case. I would just simply like to play World of Warcraft occasionally. The game is pretty intensive. I'm willing to upgrade the ram to 8gb, but that won't really drastically change the gameplay. How good is the gamecard that comes with it or should I upgrade it? If I can even upgrade it. What's the fps? All that stuff. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jesse,
I'm thinking you might have posted this question in the wrong forum. This is the MacBook Air forum, in your title you ask about the MBP and in your question you ask about going to 8GB of RAM. The MacBook Air does not support upgrading the RAM, maximum of 4GB. In addition the MacBook Air is commonly abreviated as MBA.
If there's been a mix up and you're legitimately asking about the Air, here's my impressions of it -
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15682909#15682909
For what it's worth, the GPU in the 13" MBP is identical to the one in the 11" & 13" MBA. Although the 11" MBA allocates slightly less system RAM.
World of Warcraft, as you know, can run reliably on some pretty old machines. It definitely runs just fine on the Intel HD 3000, in the fair-to-good category. I can't say I was thrilled with the performance in a 25-man Firelands raid last week but it's acceptable.

  • How well does MacBook air Perform with the sims 2?

I don't know how you apple lovers did this to me but..  God, after yeas of hating Mac for no appearent reason and favoring microsoft, worshiping Bill gates someone handed me an iPhone and it was love at first touch. I'm sorry Bill I can no longer resist apple's incredible products! Time to get my first apple computer! Bottom line I love the sims 2 and wish to have a laptop that plays it easily. I've got my eyes on the latest MacBook pro, is it captable? The bigger issue is the price.. One thousand dollars is already a ton of money but amazingly I'm willing To spend just that but two thousand dollars is out of the question.. I need a MacBook of any sort that will play the sims 2 at least and a decent screen resolution.. I'm probably better off with a windows vista. Prove me wrong!
