How would you set up your hard drives if you had these to work with

So I currently have :
1 internal 1 Tb 7200 HDD
1 internal 300gb 7200 HDD
This is all im using right now, but I also have a 3 TB external that I use to store media and also edit from. I was bringing the footage into the internal drives to edit from but space was growing thin.
I bought other drives to redo my entire hard drive set up while incorporating the old ones as well
1 2 Tb internal 7300 HDD
2 250gb SSD (They are however not the same brand.)
If someone could please give an opinion on how they would set these up from scratch that would be swell, or you can also recommend adding in another drive into the mix as well.

ok, the internals Im using now i can't get in to see the model numbers, but for the others they are;

Kingston SSDNow V200 Series SV200S3/256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive

I have a new MAcBook Air and my photos don't fit on the internal hard drive.  I want to store my photos on an external hard drive which I will connect to my Air when using Iphoto.  How do I set an external hard drive as the default drive in Iphoto?

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • How would YOU retype these old XM08 types for use in an ABAP OO method?

The XM08 function group has the following type declarations:
    TYPES: BEGIN OF mmcr_drseg_co.
            INCLUDE STRUCTURE cobl_mrm_d.
TYPES: cr LIKE drseg_cr    OCCURS 0,
           unpl_refwr TYPE refwr,
           END OF mmcr_drseg_co.
    TYPES: mmcr_tdrseg TYPE mmcr_drseg OCCURS 0,
    TYPES: BEGIN OF mmcr_drseg.
            INCLUDE STRUCTURE drseg.
TYPES: cr LIKE drseg_cr OCCURS 0,
           co TYPE mmcr_drseg_co OCCURS 0,
           sm LIKE drseg_sm OCCURS 0,
           charact TYPE rbcharact_instance OCCURS 3,
                                           "instances of characteristics
           uebgmat  TYPE matnr,
           uebrblgp TYPE rblgp,
           selkz_db TYPE selkz,
rblgp_old TYPE rblgp,           "rblgp before aggregation
           END OF mmcr_drseg.
How would YOU redeclare these types so that they work in an ABAP Objects class?
Some of the "fixes" are easy, like replacing "LIKE" with "TYPE:".
But what about the "INCLUDE STRUCTURE" and the "occurs 0" specifications?
The reason I'm asking this is that I have to call a method from ZXM08U16 and I'd like to be able to pass this method exactly what XXM08U16 gets from SAP, i.e. the table E_TDRSEG of type  MMCR_TDRSEG

    David,
I wonder it can be directly in ABAP (I would like to hear opinions from others as well!), I needed to use Data Dictionary as well:
    TYPES: BEGIN OF mmcr_drseg_co.
            INCLUDE STRUCTURE cobl_mrm_d.
    TYPES: cr TYPE z_tt_drseg_cr,
           unpl_refwr TYPE refwr,
           END OF mmcr_drseg_co.
z_tt_drseg_cr is a table type created in SE11, based on structure drseg_cr.
the way to create internal table and work area, based on the above:
DATA : gt_... TYPE TABLE OF mmcr_drseg_co.
    DATA : gw_... TYPE mmcr_drseg_co.
    hope this helps some
    ec
UPDATE : Rich is right, it is possible to do it only in ABAP with the DEFAULT KEY addition.

  • How would I install an old hard drive???

    OK Folks,
    Heres the project at hand
I would like to utilize my Hard Drive from my old 350 Mhz G3 (Blue and White)... 6 GB Ultra ATA/33 hard drive....
by installing it into my 467 Mhz G4 (Graphite) Power Mac....
Would anyone have a tutorial or some guidance about executing such an operation?
    Many Thanks

It can be done. Your Mac is backward-compatible with that drive.
If you can install a memory upgrade without trashing your computer or injuring yourself, you can do it yourself. It will require a #2 Phillips screwdriver. An illustrated article describing many possibilities is here:
HT1815- Power Mac G4: Installing Internal Storage Devices
I see you have another post on this topic. You appear to me to have two distinct problems:
    • Your mac will not power on, and the date has recently been going wacky.
This is most often caused by a dead PRAM battery. Remove the added Hard Drive and debug that problem first. Try the PRAM Reset. Use the procedure described -- press and hold the tiny button for a quarter minute, then wait at least five seconds before attempting a restart. Avoid momentary presses, they can wreak havoc. If not successful the first time, try it again a few more times. Plan on buying a new battery soon.
    • If you want to use that drive in the long run, you will need to install it on the cable with the other Hard Drive. It will not behave properly on the CD drive cable. You will need to set its straps to not interfere with the other Hard Drive. But fix your startup problem first.

  • How do I change the format of a hard drive I have to make it work with my imac

My friend has given me a hard drive to put some stuff on it for him, but it's formatted to Windows NT File System (VTFS) and I need to change it to MS-DOS (FAT32). How do I do this?
    Thanks

If you don't want to format the external disk, you can use a third-party application like Parallels NTFS.
That's the most recommended way. However, if you want to format your external disk in FAT32, you can do it without any problem.
First, open a Finder window, select the external disk in the Finder sidebar under "Devices", and copy all the data to a different folder.
Then, open Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities), choose your external disk in the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. Make sure you have selected "MS-DOS (FAT)" in "Format". If you need detailed steps to do this, see > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html
Finally, copy all the data to that external disk. You can also use exFAT, but in that case, you will have to format the external disk in a PC

  • How would you use these Apple devices to create the best network?

I have the following devices and want to create the best network for my 3 story home:
Time Capsule 3GB, latest generation (needs to be located on middle floor in a corner room by the Comcast modem)
    Time Capsule late 2009
    Airport Express 2010
More data, the devices that connect to this network:
New MacBook pro (in same room with new Time Capsule)
New iMac (in same room with Time Capsule)
    2009 iMac (on second floor)
    Iphone 5 and 5s
    ipad Minis
    ipad Airs
    Apple TV second generation
I've done some testing and the signal is pretty good on the second floor (meaning that the download speeds on the second floor iMac are the same as those in the same room with the new Time Capsule).  But the upstairs bedrooms have speeds cut by 50%.
There is no reasonable way to connect the new Time Capsule by ethernet to any other devices.
Would it be helpful to extend the wireless network "wirelessly" with the old Time Capsule in an area upstairs with strong signal?  Would the old TC then "re-pump" the signal into the bedrooms which don't have line of sight with the new TC?
How would I best do this?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Time Capsule 3GB, latest generation (needs to be located on middle floor in a corner room by the Comcast modem)
    Time Capsule late 2009
    Airport Express 2010
So, the old Time Capsule and AirPort Express are near the new Time Capsule and connected to it with an Ethernet cable.....or are the old Time Capsule and Express not even in use at all?
Would it be helpful to extend the wireless network "wirelessly" with the old Time Capsule in an area upstairs with strong signal?
While it would be better if you could connect the old Time Capsule to the new Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection, the old Time Capsule might help things out a bit in the bedroom area if it is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from the new Time Capsule.
This is one of those situations where performance cannot be predicted and you simply have to try it out in your home to see how well it will work. It could not hurt to use the old TC to extend the signal wirelessly to the bedroom area, if you want to give that a try.
You did not mention the AirPort Express, but it could possibly be located downstairs if you need more wireless signal coverage in a given area. The trick again, is to find a location where the Express can both receive a strong wireless signal and also provide additional wireless coverage.
Setting up the old Time Capsule or Express will only take a few minutes if you want to give things a try. Post back if you need more details on "how" to do this.

  • How will an external Hard drive designed for the macbook Pro work with my White Macbook?  My  white macbook has a Firewire 400 and the G-Tech HD has a 800 to 400 compatible cable for the firewire.

I am asking this because I want the G-Tech Hard drive  says that it is designed for the macbook pro.  Yet, I want to back up faster with by using my firewire 400 which is not an option on the one designed for the white macbook that does not have a firewire (only a USB port.)  The G-Tech Hard drive comes with the 800 to 400 compatible cable and has 5400 RPM with 750 GB.  Also, I've heard that laptops with low battery (mine all the time)  won't have the power for a bus powered Hard drive (as in no ac plug in adaptor.)  Can I just plug in my laptop?  Any one know the answers from experience with this hard drive?

As far as I know, if a harddrive works with a Macpro, it should work with the Macbook: if your Macbook is low on power, plug in the AC adapter
If your Macbook has a firewire port, then it should be fine. BUt i would do somemore research first.

  • I installed a new bigger hard drive and now spotlight does not work with outlook to search for emails

My old hard drive was full so I went to an apple authorized provider to install a new bigger hard drive. They also moved the data and applications from my old drive to the new one. They did not use time capsule because their way was faster. After the installation I did have to reenter the product code key for Office 2011 for the Mac. However, now I find that I cannot do email spotlight searches in Outlook. When I put in the search - it comes up with no results. This is true no matter what the search. Any ideas of how to point spotlight to look in the email folders so I can do searches again. This is a feature I use daily - so I am concerned that I have lost this feature. Also, I am noticing that alot of the settings did not carry over to the new hard drive. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would recommend starting over and migrate using your Time Capsule backup however DO NOT do it wirelessly, connect using an Ethernet Connection. If you upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard then follow the instructions in this video, the kid is annoying but he knows what he's doing. Clean Install Of Snow Leopard video. Once you have installed and updated Snow Leopard then update using the 10.6.8 Update Combo, then log into the Mac App Store and re-install Lion and all it's updates. My guess this is an afternoons work.

  • How do you read in and work with I24 binary data into LabView?

    Hi there,
I have a program that is reading binary data in as 16 bits per sample.  I have some binary input files that were saved as 24 bits per sample.  How do I convert my old program to handle this data.  I realize that LabView doesn't have built in I24 conversion - how do I do this myself? I found a post that referred to using a boolean array to create your own 24 bit number - but I don't understand what that means...  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks so much!

Do you know the format of the saved 24-bit data?  Can you share some data with us, along with what you think the values are?  If it is I24, then every three bytes represents a 24-bit (signed) integer.  The first question to answer is "What is the order of the bytes"?  How do you want to represent these data?  The obvious choices are as an I32, but since the rest of your data is I16, you might choose I16, instead.
To convert I24 into I16, you can simply return the high two bytes.  To convert I24 to I32, you need to set a high byte that replicates the sign (saved in the most significant bit of the third byte).  One way to do this is to consider the third byte as an I8 quantity -- if it is positive, set the high byte to 0, and if it is negative, set the high byte to -1.

  • Make a hard drive attached to the Airport Extreme work with Time Capsule?

I have an external hard drive attached to my airport extreme that shows up on my desktop as if it was attached locally, but time machine recognizes it as the wrong format. In the Get Info screen, the drive's format appears to be 'Appleshare', when it is actually Mac OS Extended (Journaled). How can I make it appear as Mac OS extended again?

There is nothing wrong. The drive will appear as Appleshare since the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is providing file sharing services. That should not be a problem for Time Machine use.

  • I have a Sony TV KDL40EX525. It does not support Netflix. Would you know if it works with Apple TV?

I have a Sony TV KDL-40EX525. FULL HD. LED. It does not support Netflix. Does it works with Apple TV? Sony were not able to help me.

I'm not sure what you mean about Netflix, but it's not relevant to answering your quesiton. As long as your TV has an HDMI input, Apple TV will connect to it. And AppleTV has a Netflix App, which you can use. You should be fine.

  • Apple 1tb sata hard drive....will it work with dec 2006 mac pro?

Annoyingly I bought a 1tb hard drive from the apple store. Read all the information about it on the shop page. On receiving the hard drive, it has stamped on the box : MacPro 2008, mac os 10.5.1. Oh poop. Does that actually mean it won't work at all with my machine, as there was no mention of it on the Apple store site? Grrr.

  • How can I initialize an external hard drive when disk utility won't work?

Have a Seagate 300 GB external firewire drive. Formatted it for Mac. Had worked great and then one day it would not mount, got message box with choices of "initialize", "ignore" and 'eject". Clicking initialize, disk utility comes up with only the "first aid" button showing active. When I click on it nothing happens. As far as I can tgell there are no other options
Any suggestions on how I can repair this drive or recover data would be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Jim

OK, I suspect First Aid may be blank since Disk Utility "sees" the device but does not think there's anything on it.
    1. How about if you select the drive and then click the Erase tab?
    2. Also, what happens if you connect the drive, select Ignore, then open Disk Utility? Does the drive show up?
    3. What's your objective here? Do you want to try to recover data from the drive, or simply erase it? If you're looking to recover data from the drive, see my "Data Recovery" FAQ.
    4. Do you know what happened before the problem arose? For example, was there a power outage or was the cable or drive suddenly disconnected before the drive was Ejected? Any of these events can result in the drive's partition map being corrupted, leading to the kind of problems you're seeing.
    5. Did you build this FireWire drive? That is, buy and enclosure, buy a drive, and install the latter in the former? If so, have you checked the connections?
    Good luck!
