HP C309a (aka CC335) greyed out paper types with Photoshop

I am on Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and have just replaced a printer with an HP CC335 (also known as a C309a). Whilst I get a full range of papers in Pages application, in Photoshop CS4 there are only a couple of inkjet and photo papers and all the other media types and sub menus are greyed. I did not initally install any drivers from HP or the printer's CD as I had read the HP warning at:

A short time after setting up the printer there was a driver update to 2.3 which happened through the Apple software auto update although I still see v 2.2.1 when I look in 'About This Mac.' Someone on this forum noted that HP had released v2.3 drivers a couple of days ago so I downloaded and installed them from HP yesterday. I still only see v2.2.1 and of course none of this has cured the problem.
As the printer is only a couple of weeks old I will have return it unless there is a solution. If it would work I'd keep it as it duplexes and faxes as well as scan and print.
Is there a solution?
If not, can anyone recommend a good all-in-one that will function properly with photoshop?

OK. Photoshop is at using your GPU. I'm not over flash at reading a lot of the System Info, but I think you have alternative graphics on that system. Do you know if you can switch graphics? Does your monitor lead plug into the mainboard, or a PCIe card? Bottom line is you need 512Kb of video RAM.

Regards switchable graphics, if you are using a PCIe card, you might be able to disable the onboard graphics in BIOS, but my gut feeling is that as Preferences is seeing your GPU OK, the problem might be insufficient video RAM. Have a good read through the FAQ linked above.

I have a iPhone 4 8GB. I have three greyed out safari icons that doesn't say safari but a web link. It's like a bookmark to your homepage but not in your homepage. I noticed it when I deleted all my web pages and on that one web page where it says "search or type in a address" right below it where it's just all white, there's three grey looking safari icons with each one with a different web site that's attached to it. When I tap on it it goes to a specific website. For ex one if them says www.longchamp.com, the other macys.com. There's no way to delete it. The wired thing is each one in color it like three shades of grey . Light, med and darker grey icons. When I hold down the icon you can move it around but can't delete, nothing just nothing. It's been there for the longest time I can remember. Do you know what this is? I took a pic of it. I don't know how to attach it to this discussion. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Cannot Select Paper Type in Photoshop 10

New Imac, new HP C5280, new copy of Photoshop 10 for Mac. No paper type is offered in print options, (matte, glossy, etc) in Photoshop. Hooked up my older Epson RX620, exactly the same problem, but both work in Win XP ok in Photoshop CS3. Being bounced around by tech help by HP, Adobe and Mac. All latest drivers downloaded and installed as per Tech help line instructions. No change. Anyone help?

so I've been pulling my hair out for 2 days & nights now trying to figure out why I couldnt print on custom paper sizes - I've just now hit the "help" icon in the print dialog box (so simple I didnt ever think to read through the steps set out!) and found this:
"Creating a custom page size
If you want to print on unusual size paper, such as an odd-size envelope or card, you may be able choose the paper’s size from the Paper Size pop-up menu. To find the Paper Size pop-up menu, choose File > Page Setup, if available. Otherwise, choose File > Print.
If you can’t find the size you need, you can create your own custom paper size.
To create a custom page size:
Open the document you want to print.
Choose File > Page Setup, if it’s available. Choose Page Attributes from the Settings pop-up menu, and then choose Any Printer from the Format For pop-up menu.
Choosing Any Printer ensures that your document can print on any printer that supports the paper size you select.
If Page Setup is not available, choose File > Print.
If the Print dialog contains only two pop-up menus and some buttons across the bottom, click the disclosure triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu.
Choose Manage Custom Sizes from the Paper Size pop-up menu.
Click the Add button.
Type a name for the paper size.
Enter values in the Paper Size and Printer Margins field."
All I had to change was the "any printer" setting from my (konica minolta) printers name to "Any Printer"!! now my custom paper sizes are printing fine and dandy!! phew!!!!!!!!
I know this isn't the exact prob you're having, but try the help in the print driver and follow the steps set out - it worked for me!

How do you select paper type in Photoshop Elements 10?

Sorry to be a total technotard, but in the olden days, I could select paper type (e.g. glossy photo) from the print menu when printing from Photoshop. I now have a new iMac & Photoshop Elements 10, and there is no way to select paper type, at least not that I can find. Is this an Adobe Elements thing? Cuz I can't figure out how to do it, and it's driving me nuts!!!!!! Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are working in Full Edit you need to have an image open in the main window. Then Click:
File à Print
After selecting your print size and paper size, hit the Print button.
When the system print dialog opens use the Quality & Media and other dropdown menus.

Greyed out menubar irems with CS5

A couple of days ago when I opened PS there was no splash screen and the menubar appeared immediately. Up until that time I had no problems. All of the items in the pulldowns are greyed out, and I am now unable to use PS at all. Drag and drop to the dock icon doesn't work, nor does opening directly from my applications folder. I have to force quit every time I try. I spent an hour on the phone with Adobe support and at that time I was told to uninstall and reinstall to CS5.1. In fact, they had me do that twice! Absolutely no help. I am running OS 10.6.7 on a 3.06 GHz Intel core duo with 4GB memory. I ran disk utility, DiskWarrior and Maintenance 3.8 and all said my machine is operating as it should. I'm beyond frustration now and ready to ter my hair out.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for your reply! I am assuming I will have to spend a few hours removing and reinstalling OS10.6.7. Never having done that before, I would like to know if I should do a complete uninstall of PS first, back up everything to my external hard disk and then re-install the OS, then PS. I have tried trashing the prefs, but that does nothing. My concern is that whatever is causing my problem will remain on my backup before I transfer everything back to my internal drive, making the whole process pointless. I'll contact Applecare first before I do anything, though. Am I on the right track?

Intermittant greying out of filters in photoshop cs4?

Greetings everyone
This is probably a stupid question but why does photoshop occasionally grey out some of my filters?
Its often when i have a vector smart object [ie imported from IL], but even if i rasterize it, the filters remain grey and unusuable. not sure what convert for smart filters is meant to do - does anyone know? doesn't seem to do anything for me.

How do I select paper type in PS elements for Mac OS Lion 10.7?

You do this in the OS X print window that appears after you click Print in the PSE print window. You may need to expand the window by clicking the Show Details button, and then you'll see a pulldown menu in the middle of the window where you make your choices for paper, ink, etc.

System Preferences Panes greyed out unless run with sudo

Just installed Java 7 U51 on Mountain Lion 10.8.5
This pane is greyed out & not executable
If I try to run directly:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/lib/deploy/JavaControlPanel.pref Pane
I get an error (most idiotic in fact):
You can't open "Java" preferences pane because it is not available to you at this time
The "solution" is to open System Preferences as root with
sudo /Applications/System\ Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System\ Preferences
But surely that is not what one should need to do to configure preferences?

As it happened there were MCX policies in place & these System Preferences items were not checked (they were most likely added AFTER preferences were made
Ticking them, made it all behave normal

Printing: Why are most paper types disabled in HP printer dialog from Photoshop?

Hi all.
I'm trying to create a printer profile with a GretagMacbeth EyeOne. I've found that from the EyeOne software or from Preview, all paper types are enabled in the Print configuration dialog for my HP C5100-series printer. When trying to print the test chart from Photoshop CS3 (which is necessary, because EyeOne offers no provision for printing on 4x6 photo paper), most paper types (even HP-brand ones) are disabled. It doesn't matter what paper size or source tray I choose.
For example, under the "photo paper" category, only the asterisked ones below are enabled:
*HP Premium Plus photo papers
HP Premium photo papers
*HP Advanced photo paper
HP Photo paper
HP Everyday Photo Paper, semi-gloss
HP Everyday Photo Paper, matte
other photo papers
Anyone know why papers would be disabled under Photoshop?

Video content missing on ipad... play buttons greyed out

There was a similar thread but answer did not apply. I have videos that are fromatted to play on ipad and play in itunes well. When sync to ipad you can see the ipad increase in file size from the added video. When you open the video app to view the videos all is seen is greyed out video image with title underneath. click on that image, and the play button is greyed out. Even though the running time appears, the file size is 0. I know the content is on the ipad because it shows the space being used by those files. Where are they? i look in the music app, no luck.
I did plug in the ipad to computer and view the files that way (in left hand side of itunes where you view files on devices ) and those particular video files are greyed out there as well. Please help. So frustrating trying to find an answer.
I have tried deleting the files from ipad and resyncing did not work. Thanks

Update:
After further inspection: it seams the video contnet is not being transferred but only the video file image and title. Discovered this after unplugging and repluggin and saw the file size in ipad decrease because there were no video files. Thanks for you help

Video greyed out on SOME contacts

This is my first time using iChat. And now I'm running Lion. And this seems weird.
For some reason in iChat the video option for my contacts is all greyed out. Even with people that are online and available. I can chat with them but no audio or video icon is available.
However, one of my gmail contacts is 'waiting for authorization' (I've no idea why..I've chatted with them before in gmail chat) but THIS contact the video icon is not greyed out..and it's the only one not greyed out. What gives?

If you have sent a Reqest for Authorisation then iChat will tell you when a Buddy is On line by adding the Dark Buddy pic (even if it says it is still waiting for a Response)
In Leopard and Snow Leopard (iChat 4 and 5) iChat would only send the Request once.
It also has no option to Resend.
Most other Jabber apps keep sending the Request until the Buddy either Accepts or Denies.
It is best to delete the Buddy and arrange a time when they are On-line to Add them to the Buddy List
(Or use a Third Party app that does repeat the Request.)
Buddies that show On line but have greyed out Video icons are normally chatting (in Video or Audio) with someone else (Busy).
I think you are trying to say this is not the case for you at present.
iChat can only video to other iChat Buddies (no matter what app they are using except for AIM or Trillian on PC)

Adobe Reader X - Display PDF in Browser Option is Greyed out

Looking for a registry fix to unlock the Display PDF in Browser option. Not sure how it is greyed out to begin with. My MST file was not set to Lock anything. Please help. I cannot find anything anywhere of use to "ungrey" this option.
It seems to happen when Acrobat is installed.
How can I fix and how can I prevent in future releases??

My 'Location Services is on but all is greyed out so I can't change anything. Any ideas?

I want some of my apps to use the location services & to be able to turn it off, but it's all greyed out. Same with my Cloud. I read thru the entire manual, with no luck. Could someone give me a little advice? My iPhone 4S is from Verizon

"Use RAW files with external editor" greyed out for Photoshop CS2?

I've just upgraded from iPhoto 5, and the "Use RAW files with external editor" option in the advanced preferences is greyed out when I select Photoshop CS2 as my external editor (back in the General pane).
It works fine when Preview.app is selected. I can understand that pre-CS2 Photoshop wouldn't be available, but CS2 is capable of editing RAW images.
Has anyone been able to get iPhoto 6 to send a RAW image to Photoshop CS2 using this preference? I've written an Applescript to do it in iPhoto 5, but I'd rather use something cleaner...

Works great with Photoshop Elements, opens with Camera Raw. The issue is you can't save it so that iPhoto gets the changes.
You have to save it and then re-import. I tried all permutations of saving it in originals and modified folders in the library. No luck. The only thing I didn't try is to save it as a jpeg over the top of the full sized one iPhoto created on import.

External Editor Greyed Out

Running Aperture 3 and I have set Photoshop CS5 as the external editor in preferences but it remains greyed out. I have restarted Apeture, still greyed out.

Have you set Photoshop CS5 as the external editor, or Photoshop CS5.app?
You need to select the app inside the folder, not the Photoshop CS5 folder.
