HP Color Laserjet 2840 prints patchy areas instead of solid black areas

I have a printer that's about 4-5 years old and LOVE it. However, recently it stopped printing solid black areas when I print artwork. When I print text only, there are no problems--only when I print artwork. It's got a new imaging drum and plenty of black ink. I don't have much money and can't afford a new one, so I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas what needs to be fixed. Thank you in advance!

  • How do I get HP Color LaserJet 2840 printing with PS?

    Hello everybody,
I just recently got an HP Color LaserJet 2840. I installed the lastest available driver package (downloaded from hp.com) on an MacBook 10.5.5. Printing in general works, but I cannot change printing parameters. When I try to select the item in the printing dialog, I get a struck trough entry telling me that "hpPostScriptPDE" could not be loaded because it seems to be damaged or the resource is unavailable.
Then it goes on telling me that the driver is not compatible with my system and that I should go get the latest. But there is no update. And running 10.5.6 has not improved the situation.
The package in question is here:
    /Macintosh HD/Library/Printers/hp/PDEs/hpPostScriptPDE.plugin
I chmod (0775) and chown (root:admin) the whole plugin, I reinstalled everything, I ran diskutil, nothing seems to help.
    Any idea is greatly appreciated!
    Regards
    Jim

    Hello Jim,
Have you tried trashing the PDE plugin? Or better still, try trashing the contents of the ./Libary/Printers/hp folder and then install the latest driver you have. I have seen installers leave files (ie not update) when their version number is the same.

  • Cannot scan from HP Color Laserjet 2840 All In One Any Ideas?

I have a Mac Book Pro with OS 10.5.8 on it.  I recently had my MAC in for service and a full reinstall of the OS was necessary.  I was hoping that once I reinstalled the OS and other programs that everything would work.  Apparently I was wrong.  I could get my HP Color LaserJet 2840 printer working, however I was unable to get the scanning feature to work to scan documents into a folder on my computer.  I tried uninstalling and re-installing to no avail.  I looked inside the HP Director program and it showed that no Scanner or Utilities could be accessed.  They were greyed out.  Everything in HP Director was greyed out.  I took a look at the connections on the printer, restarted the printer a couple times, nothing worked.  My printer is connected through my network.  I am unsure what to try next.  Any ideas?

    Have you installed this driver?

  • HP Color LaserJet 2840 -- reinstalling driver -- HP Setup Assistant failing

Hello! Any tips on how to get my MacBook Pro to identify my HP Color LaserJet 2840 printer? I'm trying to reinstall the driver, but in the HP Setup Assistant, the printer doesn't show up.
I tested the same printer and USB cable on my older iBook, and everything works just fine. The printer is an all-in-one device, and it works just fine as a standalone copier.
On my MacBook, everything worked great two days ago, but I tried to print today and got a message "printer not responding" in the print queue. I tried to troubleshoot to no avail:
-- Turned printer and computer off an on several times.
-- Ran disk warrior, rebuilt directories and repaired permissions. Still notta.
-- Then uninstalled the HP 2840 print driver, downloaded new ones, tried to reinstall, but the printer isn't showing up in the HP Setup Assistant.
-- In Printer Setup Utility, ran Reset Printing System.
-- Again tried to run HP Setup Assistant, but still the printer isn't showing up in the list for installation.
Any tips would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi BDAqua -- Thanks for the tip. Should have thought of that. Apparently my USB ports aren't working. Tested a memory stick and my iPod, and neither device shows up on the desktop. My firewire does seem to work -- just backed up everything on an external hard drive.
The profiler shows these USB devices:
-- USB Bus / IR Receiver
    -- USB Bus
-- USB Bus / Bluetooth Host Controller
    -- USB Bus / Apple Internal Keyboard/Trackpad
    -- USB High-Speed Bus
Thanks again. My next step is to call AppleCare.

  • HP Color LaserJet 2840 misidentified as 2830

    Hello, Everyone
We were having problems with our HP Color LaserJet 2840 so I took it to a local computer store for repair.  (The problems were that the printer was squeaking really bad, and tray 2 had ceased working...)  So, I got it back from the shop, and those problems still persist...  But that is a different issue, to be taken up with the store I had it "repaired" at...
Here is my new problem: I plugged the USB cable back into the printer and put the power cord back where it belonged.  Interestingly, Windows XP decided to not only detect it as a new piece of hardware, but it insisted on detecting it as a  HP Color LaserJet 2830.  Again, we have a "2840", not a "2830"
I do not know what the difference is between the two models, I just know that Windows XP has never detected this printer as a "2830" before.  I then proceeded to delete all the printers and then re-install the appropriate driver.  Unfortunately, the install failed.  Which, again, has never happened to me before with this printer.  I halfway suspect that if I could get Windows XP to detect this printer as a "2840",which it IS, instead of a "2830", which it is NOT, that perhaps the driver install might work.  But that is sheer opinion
One reasonable question that you might have is "Are you sure that they gave you YOUR printer back?"  All I know for sure right now is that the model number printed right on the top of the unit says "2840", not "2830"  There was at least one note that someone from our Church taped to the printer.  I will look for that the next time I see the printer...
So, I have two real questions:
    1. Had this problem ever happened before, and what might be the cause?
    2. And, the BIG QUESTION: How do I get Windows XP to understand that this is a 2840 and not a 2830?
    Thank you for your help

The cable for your card reader has been knocked lose - if you pop the side cover off you can put the cable back on.  If the cable is firmly attached, then the card reader has died.  There was supposed to be a 2830 released that had the fax but no card reader but at some point they canceled that decision.  However the firmware was written for all 3 models, so when the printer sees a fax but no card reader it reports itself as a 2830.
The squeaking carousel and not pulling from tray 2 means it needs servicing by a genuinely trained HP tech on that particular model.  Tray 2 should be easy enough to fix, but the carousel may need to be realigned and that is not an easy job.  You may have to call around or go out of your way, but find a service center that is certified in this model printer.
I've worked on this models myself for a couple years - if you think one squeaking carousel is bad, try listening to 4 or 5 of them all at the same time!!!

  • HP Color LaserJet 2840 driver missing scanner option

    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/How-to-load-the-scanner-driver-for-HP-...
    Dear Experts
I have installed a HP Color LaserJet 2840 on windows 7 OS (I am not sure if it supported OS or not ) that was given to me by a friend.
It is a network printer but the driver that I had installed ( downloaded from HP website ) doesn’t have a scan utility that can be used by any PC connected to my home network.
What I am doing right now I connected the printer using a USB cable and I am using “Windows Fax and Scan ” option to do scan.
Printing no problem all PCs are able to print
Any suggestion how can I overcome this issue ?
    Thanks

  • Import *.csv file in phonebook form All-in-One HP Color LaserJet 2840.

We use a HP all-in-one printer ; HP-Color LaserJet 2840. I should like to use the faxing option of this all-in-one for faxing large numbers of faxes. In other words ; batch-faxing or mailing-faxes.
    It is possible to use the phonebook option in the faxing part of the software that is installed together with the printer-tools ( dirigent). To enter a large number of customers it is possible to use a *.csv file to import the entries to the phonebook. I have made the *.csv file exactly the way suggested in the instruction; It is possible to export the customer entries from programs like Lotes Notes , Outlook , or Outlook Express. So I export it to a *.csv file in a dos-format as well as a windows-format. But everytime when i try to import the file in the HP-phonebook i receive the mention ;
    > "An error has occurred , ...No valid directory entries in this file. Select a file with valid directory  entries."
Who can help me out this issue.? Every suggestion is possible.
Another question ; is it possible to use the faxing option of the all-in-one printer for sending large numbers of faxes ? May , someone has experience ?
    Thanks in advance !

Drivers for the HP Color LaserJet 2800 Series are 16.4 and are included in 10.6.4.
Reset your printing system and see if your Mac can find the printer.

  • Acrobat 9.0 Scan From HP Color LaserJet 2840 Sheet Feeder

Running Windows 7 32-bit on HP computer and HP Color LaserJet 2840 all-in-one.
Attempting to scan from sheet feeder and getting pages clipped at bottom.   Windows Scanner program works correctly.
The Acrobat 9.0 Pro scanner setup (WIA, not TWAIN) only allows me to select "automatic" paper size - no other paper size options are presented. Acrobat was recently reinstalled; all software is updated to current revision levels.
    Any ideas?

Experiencing the same issue.  Mac OS X 10.8.5, HP Easy Start Version 1.1.1 (33) Correctly identifies my HP product, searches for and suggests the appropriate drivers (I'm assuming), and fails when clicking Install. Dialog box says the same exact message as the previous post.  Network is obviously working. Can we get direct links to these driver downloads? Essential Software version 4.0.0.32HP Scan version 4.7.0.46  Can't find them anywhere on the HP site. Thanks.

  • Does HP Color Laserjet 2840 work with Lion?

I am considering upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion.  Will my HP Color Laserjet 2840 work after the upgrade?

I don't know if you have sorted this but I posted this elsewhere on the Forum. I have my HP 2840 working fine in Lion. Occasionally the Director software fires up and can't find the printer so I just turn the printer off then on and everything works OK.
I got a reply from HP who said that they don't make the printer any more and so don't support it. It will only fax and print.
    Here is my post:
Has anybody had the frustrating time that I have trying to get their precious HP LaserJet all-in-one scanner/fax/printer working under Lion?
I have spent ages looking over the net and on HP's own site and worked out that formally Apple and HP only support printing on these machines now. The so-called in-built functionality of Lion using Image Capture or Preview etc simply won't work with the HP2840: the HP2840 does not appear as a scanner.
Anyhow, I also found that the HP site does not sem to have the old drivers any more but fortunately I had them backed up in Time Machine so I found the old driver (LJMFP28x0OSX10.5Update-v8.2.dmg).
I tried just running install but it falls over quickly as the 'Start here" link is broken. So I dug around the package and found an install app calle Aio. I ran this and after what seemed ages of countless loops and after the installation program closed down every other app running (I've never seen apps closed so quickly but this may be a Lion thing) the Mac re-booted.
And hey presto! My scanner appears to be working. When it has finished I get the "HP Scan quit unexpectedly" window come up. But otherwise everything seems OK. I then ran the Mac software update and it (re-) installed the HP driver updates and the HP Director program still works and scanning is still available.
If anyone else needs the .dmg file let me know and I will uplaod it somewhere. I assume you can post here and I will be notified.
If someone knows more about this problem or can even get HP to do something better about the (lack of) support I'd be delighted to know.
    Good luck!

  • Problem with HP Color LaserJet 2840

Hey guys, first post here woot woot haha
    Now to business
I have a macbook with osx 10.4.11, and an HP Color LaserJet 2840. I can't get it to print through USB.
This guy on the HP forum had the exact same problem
    http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=10 9447627126316290000128353475&threadId=1198993
The thing is, I can't call Apple like the guy on the HP forum did. I need your help to solve my problem!!
Thanks a lot, and take care!!! ---Arthur

Hi Arthur, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sometimes you need to habd uninstall hp drivers, but Might try these two...
Mac OS X: About the Reset Printing System feature ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341?viewlocale=en_US
Might try Printer Setup Repair 5.1...
    http://www.fixamac.net/software/index.html
Do this before & after any install...
Safe Boot. One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
    Reboot.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Bad photo prints on HP Color LaserJet CP5225dn Printer

    Hey all,
Having an issue outputting photos on my new HP Color LaserJet P5225dn printer from Adobe products. Am curious if anyone else might have run across the same issue and possibly found a solution. Here's the background information...
    Running Windows 8.1 Pro.
HP Envy Phoenix w/Intel core i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
    32 GB RAM
    2TB Raid 0 HD
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 640
Spyder-profiled HP Pavilion 25xi monitors (dual setup)
Running Adobe Creative Cloud (latest builds--issue present in prior versions, too).
Using HP Universal Print Driver PS (latest version--only option on Windows 8), but have tried PCL 4 and 5 drivers as well.
When printing from Adobe products, any photo seems to print without the yellow color. Color swatches and vector files print correctly. This issue seems to only apply to raster images--greens print blue, browns print purple, oranges print magenta. I have had HP support out to examine hardware of printer and everything checks out.
I have tried every combination of ICC profile, paper setting imaginable. Have tried printing as CMYK and RGB. Have reset preferences in Adobe software. Color issues are present in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and the images print consistently off in all products (is purple in INDD is also purple in PSD, etc.). I have reset printer to defaults. I have tried removing color management and printing. I have tried printer diagnostics. I have tried having the printer manage color. I have tried having the application manage color. Everything prints consistently wrong.
I've updated video drivers, searched for ICC profiles specific to the printer, recalibrated monitors, no dice. Funny thing is that when you take that same file and send it to another printer, it prints accurately.
Any ideas for troubleshooting are much appreciated. Any solutions would be fantastic.
    Matt

Yeah, tried printing from PDF and image issues persist. I'm not sure what's going on if everything checks out from hardware standpoint. Appreciate your suggestions though.
