HP Color LaserJet 3600 series (VISE Installer)

Hi everyone,
I made the mistake of using the VISE Installer that HP suggests as a download for the HP Color LaserJet 3600 series printer. I installed it, and then couldn't figure out why I still couldn't see this printer driver. After reading http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303057#hpdrivers and learning that the "driver" included for the Color LaserJet 3600 is not a "Modern Driver", I realized that installing the VISE installer from HP does me no good.
Now, I have two questions:
1) How can I uninstall this stuff that HP crammed onto my system? The VISE Installer seems like its a blast from the pre-OS X past, and doesn't appear to offer any sort of uninstallation. Do I need to write up a shell/AppleScript to read the log it writes to my / and remove the files manually? (I'd rather not do that, but I will if I have to).
2) Is there a PPD that anyone knows of for this printer? I'd like to be able to print to it over our network, and I need a "Modern driver" (i.e. PPD) to do that.
Thanks dudes!
MacBook Pro 15.4"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

To get a modern driver, you'll have to install a few open source packages. Try hpijs and ESP ghostscript from here:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
(I think you have to use the 3500 model choice/PPD).
If that doesn't work, you'll have to compile the driver:

  • HP Color LaserJet 2800 series 2820

    Question
Why is it, that the software delivered by HP them selve, isn't working as it should?
I've installed the DVD on 10.5 and I could scan, but not print.
After an uninstall of the DVD I could print, but not scan.
Now I've upgraded to 10.6.1. As I've read, several drivers are installed when needed. But as the Apple paged shows, no scan support for my printer.
Why doesn't HP make a print/scan driver so my expensive All-in-one printer could FINALY work as it should.
Is there a driver out there for Snow Leopard that does the trick of print/scan functionality?
Are there more people who are experiencing this problem?
Why does HP says it has OSX support for it's printer, if the driver AND installation software are of the minor quality?

    Jonathan,
The Color LaserJet 2800 series is NOT support under Snow Leopard for anything other then print. You may try installing the 10.5 software to try and get things running again. It can be obtained [here|http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp? lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=445194&prodNameId=445195&swEnvOID=21 9&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ly-58934-1], no guarantees it will work though.

  • Color LaserJet 3600 and 10.6 over wireless (Broadcom Wireless Chipset)

Checking the archives, I've found that I'm not the only person who has experienced problems printing to a Color LaserJet 3600 via wireless. Those threads were archived with no solution so I couldn't reply, but I wanted to expand on what I discovered.
It is not so much Mac OS X 10.6, but the way HP's horrible host-based printing drivers are tied to the wireless. I've discovered that laptops with 10.6 that are also using the newer Broadcom BCM43xx chipset will garble their print command, causing the print queue to mess up on the host machine, and the printer to become unresponsive to all other machines (it perpetually thinks there's something in the queue, so no other print commands will go through.) The three laptops I tested were the unibody aluminum 13" MacBook Pro, unibody aluminum 15" MacBook Pro, and the plastic unibody 13" MacBook; all with clean installs of 10.6.2. All three laptops have the same printing error.
Laptops with the Atheros 5416 chipset work fine, even with 10.6. Laptops tested with this chipset were the aluminum 15" MacBook Pro, aluminum 17" MacBook Pro, and the white MacBook.
This is not any fault of Apple, it is HPs abysmal host-based printing system. The solution to this problem until HP updates their printer drivers is to use the open source HPIJS drivers (HP drivers for the Linux Foundation Open Printing.) You'll need HPIJS, Foomatic-RIP, and Ghostscript; all installers are listed and come with uninstallers should any unexpected errors occur.
I don't know Apple's policy on linking to external websites, but a simple Google search for HPIJS will give the desired link.
This may be a good solution for 10.4 and 10.5 clients working across subnets, as the HPIJS drivers can be used via simple LPD/LPR instead of the HP IP Printing System that relies on mDNS.
Once installed, when you type in the IP address of your Color LaserJet 3600, you'll be presented with the option of choosing the HPIJS driver.
Additionally, if you use the HP drivers for the LaserJet 3600 over both wired and wireless network, you must add the printer while on the wireless network only; it is important that you disconnect the ethernet cable. If you add the printer while using a wired connection, the printer will not work over wireless; however, if you add the printer while on a wireless connection, the printer will work on either wireless or wired.
Yes, the HP host-based drivers are that ridiculous.

Unfortunately 10.6.3 did not fix the problem.
I've also, unfortunately, found out that the HPIJS will also eventually fail to print.
This is beyond frustrating since we invested several thousands of dollars in these printers and we can't use them.

  • HP Color LaserJet 3600(not 3600n) with Fast Ethernet port - can I use it?

Hello! There is a HP Color LaserJet 3600 in our company connected via USB with XP-based PC. Recently I decided that we need this printer be shared directly trough our ethernet network, so I started to learn manuals - its own manual, Jet Direct, and all that stuff. The printer's manual says that HP Color Laserjet 3600 does not have neither its own ethernet port, nor support for embedded print-server like JetDirect 620n.
    But!
Visual check  shows that this HP 3600 DOES have its own ethernet port and if I connect it to network or at least to a notebook - it blinks like any other ethernet port with "lights" should do.
    However.
Neither front panel, nor back panel says anything about network support(like letter "n" in model name).
Configuration page print also does not know about that mysterious port.
    So my questions are:
    1. What is this port actually?
    2. Can I use it to share printer over network? Maybe, there is a way to upload 3600n's firmware somehow?

  • HP Color LaserJet 2550 series

    Hi,
I installed the HP Printer Driver Pack available on the Apple site for my HP Color LaserJet 2550 series printer. It works, but there are some odd things here.
First, the driver can't read the printer state. Like how much is left for each colour and things like that. It just says, No information available.
Second, When I print after I already printed something else the printer will be unavailable according to the driver. I need to turn of the printer and back on for it to print again.
Third, When there is an image on one of the pages (LibreOffice) it takes forever for that page to be printed.
Via the App Store I get new versions of the driver pack, so I am up to date.
Also, when I connect this same printer to my Laptop (Linux) everything works. These are HP drivers for Linux. My laptop can read the printer and ink/toner status. I don't have to turn off the printer after each job and images print a lot faster. Ok, real big high ress photos not, but normal images just roll out. Whilst on my Mac it takes minutes.
So in my opinion there is something wrong with the driver. I reinstalled the printer, and due to some other issue I reinstalled OS X but the problem remained.
I hope there is a resolution for this.
    Thanks,
    Ricardo

I managed to get some success by rebuilding as described in another posting:

Re: HP Laserjet 2550L prints one job then hangs
Jun 15, 2012 2:13 AM (in response to Fami R.)
I had this issue too with my HP 2550. No more printing after the first printjob possible
I managed to get the printer working as expected by removing the hp_io_enabler kext.
    sudo -s
    mkdir /Valhalla
    mv /System/Library/Extensions/hp_io_printerclassdriver_enabler.kext /Valhalla
    exit
Wait for the systemcaches to be rebuilt and reboot. You can see if the caches are being rebuilt by opening the Activity Tool, the process is named kextcache.
You need to have the Valhalla Folder in root of course.
Not very mac-like, but it works

  • Very slow printing Illustrator CS3 to HP Color Laserjet 3600

    Howdy!
OS X 10.5.8 G5 dual 2.0. Printer is connected via Ethernet. I've created new printers using Bonjour, IP address, and HP IP printing under Other...
Illustrator hangs upwards of ten minutes with a beachball at the "Printing Page:" window, before the file shows up in the print queue.
Illustrator is printing fine to all my other printers, (hp Deskjet & 2 Epson Pro 4000's) and all my other apps print to the HP Color Laserjet 3600 nice and speedily. If I reboot, it takes about 45 seconds on the first print, then back to 10 + minutes, after that.
Happens with any Illustrator file. I've created several new files, both RGB and CMYK. Acrobat will print these files nice and speedily. I can place them in InDesign, and it prints them nice and speedily.
CS2 also hangs in the same fashion.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

I don't know if this is related, but...
My MacBook Pro (Airport) has always been dicey connecting to an HP LaserJet 4000 on my wired LAN. Before Snow Leopard, I used AppleTalk rather than IP printing because it just worked.
But Snow Leopard doesn't support AppleTalk any more, so I reinstalled the printer to connect via JetDirect (which supposedly provides more features). When it works, it works fine. But very often I get a message that it can't connect to the printer. The only thing I've found that fixes the problem is power-cycling the printer, which somehow enables queued jobs to print. Needless to say, this gets old.
Is there some trick I'm missing?

  • Hp color laserjet 4730mfp series

how can i   scanning and save the photos to my computer by HP Color LaserJet 4730 series ?

According to the spec sheet for the Laserjet 4700n printer, this printer only has these methods of connectivity. Unfortunately, wireless printing is not mentioned.
    Laserjet 4700n connection methods:
Enhanced input/output (EIO) card slots for optional connectivity. (Network connection using an HP Jetdirect embedded print server is standard on HP Color LaserJet 4700n, HP Color LaserJet 4700dn, HP Color LaserJet 4700dtn, and HP Color LaserJet 4700ph+ printers.)
    USB 2.0 connection.
HP Jetdirect embedded print server to enable network connectivity without requiring use of an EIO slot.
Standard bidirectional parallel cable interface (IEEE 1284-C compliant).
    Auxiliary connector.
Both USB and parallel connections are supported, but cannot be used at the same time.

  • HP Photosmart 3210 installed on my iMac But is showing as  but is showing as HP Color Laserjet 2800 series PS which means I no longer have access to all the paper options especially the photo tray

I have recently purchased an iMac running Lion. The HP Photosmart 3210 printer was connected through the network and I was happy that it recognised the printer - good old Mac's!!
However, when I tried to print some of my photos from the photo tray, the option was not available and when I looked at the printer properties, it was showing as a HP Color LaserJet 2800 Series PS which does not have all the paper options I had before. Reinstalling the software from HP did not make any difference - do I now have to buy a new printer as well???

I suggest opening the Print & Scan System Preferences, then highlight your HP Photosmart printer in the printers list and delete it by pressing the minus sign. Now, re-add the printer by clicking on the plus sign and select the printer. Make sure that the 'Print Using:' pull down aut selects the correct driver for your printer. If it doesn't, pull down the list and manually select the correct driver using the 'Select Printer Software' option. Hopefully that will resolve your issue.

  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw Installation Issue

Hi, I purchased a new HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw yesterday, and is having difficult time installing the driver. I tried downloading it online and using the CD that came with it. I have also tried to install in two different computers, one is a desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium, the other is a notebook with Windows 8.1.  In all instances, it stops at "preparing for installation" stage with an error message that reads "A probelm occured while preparing to install software to your system. Please restart your computer, and run this installation again. If the problem persists, please check the product support web site for your product". I tried to restart the computers many times, and I have also tried to change windows "User Account Control Setting" to the least sensitive level, but still to no avail. I need help! Thanks, lateblue

John_Getzke, Thanks for your suggestion. However, I was using administrator accounts. I tried to create a new administrator account to do it again, but got the same result. lateblue

  • Printing solution for Color LaserJet 3600 & 2600 on new Apple hardware

This is a followup to my original thread that was archived:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2364735&tstart=0
I finally found a solution. HP owes me $20,000 in consulting fees.
To print to a LaserJet 3600 or 2600 from a newer Mac using 10.6, you must do the following:
Step 1: Install Foomatic HPIJS drivers
Step 2: Get an AirPort Express or equivalent print server (AirPort Extreme works as well, UFO or thin.)
Step 3: Connect the printer via USB to the print server, and connect it to your network
Step 4: Go to Print & Fax, then click the + button to add a printer
Step 5: Select HP Jetdirect - Socket for the protocol
Step 6: Enter the IP address of the printer server, followed by a colon and the port number (9100 or 9101)*, i.e. 1.2.3.4:9100
Step 7: Name the printer, then click on the Print using: drop down menu
Step 8: Select the Select Other Printer..., and choose the appropriate HPIJS driver.
    * To determine the correct port, open Network Utility in the Utilities folder. Click on Port Scan. Type the IP address of your print server, then check the Only test ports between... and enter 9100 and 9101. It will report back the open TCP port.

Unfortunately 10.6.3 did not fix the problem.
I've also, unfortunately, found out that the HPIJS will also eventually fail to print.
This is beyond frustrating since we invested several thousands of dollars in these printers and we can't use them.

  • Slow printing copies to HP Color Laserjet 400 series

This issue first appeared on 10.8, and still there... Not sure if it is a feature or bug
HP Color Laserjet M451 with ethernet connect and 386 MB ram. Mac 10.9.3 with latest print driver from HP.
Let's say my document has 5 pages, text and graphics, it will print fine speed wise. Say it takes about 30 sec to spool, process and print the one page. THe rest of the document print at good speed.
If I decided to print 8 copies of this document, and select 8 copies in the print setting, it will essentially submit the print job 8 times so after the first job is done, i will have to wiat for it to process the file and spool it to the printer, etc. it will take a long time. It does not matter it is Word, PDF (using Acrobat reader or Preview), or PowerPoint, same time of respond.
Same printer, network and file print from Windows 7 will spool, process once, and then the printer will just fly thought the copies as if it is all one document, so i can get this done in say 1 min. The printer print fast after 1 page.
So. Let's say I want to print 1 page of a document (it can be just text), and say i want 50 copies. then forget it. It will sit there and spool, process and etc each  page for 30 sec. And windows 7 (even xp) will treat it like it is printing one document of 50 pages.
Any idea if this is a feature of Mac or HP? couldn't be HP if windows 7 print ok.

This works for me, because I'm tired of waiting for Adobe to find solutions: open your pdf document with Preview and print from there. It will print cleaner and faster than any Adobe application.
