HP DeskJet and OS 9

Okay, so I bought an HP DeskJet 5940xi. I use an older version of Word that runs in OS 9. But the DeskJet will not work under OS 9.
I did a search and saw a reference to using the Printer Utility to trick the HP into running as Laser 8. Will this work? And if so, what do I do?
Thanks for any help.

Hi, Martin -
Apple KBase Article #9804 - Error Codes: -299 to -5553 identifies error -1304 as being in the HFS Errors group. The definition given is -
-1304    catChangedErr    Catalog has changed and CatPosition may be invalid
Not sure what that may mean, but it would not hurt to run a diagnostic utility on the drive, either Disk Utility while booted to an OSX Install disk, or DiskWarrior while booted to its disk.
It may also mean that the OS 9 prefs file that utility uses may be damaged. If so, throwing that prefs file away and restarting Classic may help. It is named DTP Utility Preferences and can be found in the Preferences folder in the OS 9 (Classic) System Folder.

    Hello @arijyou123,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're not able to configure your HP Deskjet 3521 e-All-in-One Printer for wireless printing with your Mac OS X 10.7 computer. I'd like to assist you with configuring the wireless today.
You will need a USB Cable for the wireless setup.
Can I have you start by clicking here. When the website opens, select the Download button on the top left. Allow the download to complete. Once the download is finished please launch the installer on your Mac.
Follow any onscreen steps to complete the installation of your printer. If prompted please select the 'Wireless Setup Using a USB Connect'. Plug in your USB Cable when prompted. Your wireless information (Network Name SSID and Wireless password) will be sent to the printer via the USB Cable connection. Once the wireless connection has been established, you will no longer need the USB Cable.
For further information on the wireless setup please refer to: Setting Up the Printer for a Wireless network
Please respond to this post with the result of your wireless setup. Should the wireless configuration still fail, please respond with any error messages that you may receive or when exactly the setup fails. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • HP Deskjet and Officejet install

    Hi,
I have two trusty HP mobile printers which I am now struggling to set up with my new computer on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I tried to use Windows update and the CD provided but unable to install.
Can anyone please help guide me to the drivers and how to install them? I tried the guidance on the website but still unable to. If there other settings I need to change on the system to enable this to install successfully?
I have a HP Deskjet 460 and Officejet H470. If I can get any one or both installed, that would be brilliant.
Thanks a bunch for your help!

    Hi there,
You can download the Officejet H470 Win 7 drivers from the following page:

  • 2050A Deskjet and Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite

I've recently bought a MacBook Air with OSX 10.10 Yosemite.  I had a deskjet 2050A already, so downloaded the OSX driver from the HP website, but can't print.
I'm quite sure the driver is installed as I can scan successfully and when I attempt to print, the print dialog box shows "HP Deskjet 2050".  The print queue shows that the document is printing, just nothing comes out of the printer.  I get no error messages, the computer thinks all is ok.
... I've got paper and ink...
    Can you help please?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your help.
I reset the printers i.e. deleted it from my settings, then installed the latest driver - now works fine.  Incidentally, this is a later driver to the one I downloaded from the HP website just a couple of days ago, so maybe that needs an update.
    Thanks again!

  • HP Deskjet and Officejet Full Feature Software and Drivers - Fatal error during installation

The "HP Print and Scan Doctor" reports software install problem on the scanner text.
In 2008 I bought an HP Pavilion Elite with Vista with a HP OfficeJet 5610 All-In-One connected through USB. About a year ago I upgraded to Windows 7 and print and scan worked OK. Last week I received an e-mail from HP for HP Print and Scan Doctor (ver 4.3) and installed it. I have had a problem trying to install the software updates that it said that I need. I have uninstall and reinstalled many times.

  • IPad cannot find airplay on HP 3520 deskjet printer

Hi, if there's anyone who can help me, I'd be very grateful.
This week I bought the HP 3520e deskjet and though I've set it up fine with my PC, I cannot - despite going through the normal procedures, followed by many, many troubleshooting 'solutions' - get it to print anything from either of my iPads.
I've been through the entire solutions list at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02623193#N1188 but had no success at all.
All that's happening when I try to print anything at all from my iPad is that it says 'No AirPrinters Found'.
I'm at a loss now and could really use some advice, if anyone has any?
    thanks very much

  • Deskjet 3050 wifi works w/ open WEP

Dears, just bought HP 3050 deskjet and i like te way it looks and works. I want to SHARE EXPERIENCE - issue solved.
Yes, the wireless issue is painful indeed.
This is how i SOLVED it for my setup: i set up WEP open & 128bit ascii key and now no problem at all.
What is interesting: while using wpa-psk (wpa2 personal + aes) i managed to connect the printer to B/G-router, but couldnt access webserver by http://printer.ip  over WIFI. No matter if ip was by dhcp or manual, firewalls on&off, etc, etc, etc. But when i hooked my laptop to router by wire ethernet - the printer's webpage opened normally. Sme network, same settings. I see some magic here.
Finally i desided to stay on wep open, coz with this kind of "security" i can normally use scaner/printer and open printer's webpage also over wifi on bot sides (lap->wifi->router<-wifi<-printer).

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). Yours is 192.168.1.100 to .149.  Let's use 192.168.1.200 for your printer.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway and first DNS. Leave the second one blank.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • How do I print the contrast between "filled" text and its surrounding "box"?

    Hi,
Apologies in advance for any ambiguity or confusion . . .
I am a self-taught Photoshop user who has come upon a problem to which I cannot find an answer, despite searching online for hours . . .
When I design a project, it looks beautiful on screen . . . when I print it, however, it loses the definition between colors inside a font and the shape surrounding the font . . .
    To be more exact:
    I am working at 300 dpi . . .
I create a rectangle and fill it with red.  I then write text inside of the rectangle and the font color is white.  Onscreen, it looks clear and well-defined.  When I print it, however, there is not clear definition between the font and its surrounding area . . . the colors seem to bleed into each other . . . I have tried using different paper (glossy, matte, etc.), have tried putting a narrow stroke around the text, etc., but nothing help to clearly define the difference between the text and its surrounding shape/color.
It also does not matter the size of the font, although the larger the font, the easier it is to "see" the difference.  But a white font at 24 point looks no sharper than a white font at 8 pt.
I am using an Epson XP-610 printer . . . it is a home deskjet and I mainly design for fun, but this "lack of sharpness" on the fonts is driving me crazy.  I would included a screenshot, but it would not help much, since the project looks beautiful and clear on the screen.
The colors only seem "muddled" when  I print.  Any advice, or even a point in the direction of something I can read to help me understand what to do, would be helpful. . . . TIA!I

    Hullo Cheapster:
I too am confident that this facility does not exist in relation to the underline function as such. Nor am I aware of a workaround that would let you access it straightforwardly for routine usage in body text. The underline facility, like the strikethrough, is provided because it is standard in some documentation which a wordprocessing might be expected to serve - but as such, it is provided in limited conventional formats. Otherwise, I agree, it is not ideal typography.
However, for occasional use, there are two workarounds you might like to consider. One is to use the line drawing facility available through the insert menu (insert shape, choose line; then grab its handles to make it horizontal) or the same process initiated from the objects icon in the toolbar.
Be aware, however, that the above could require further attention to your wrap options: you would need to deselect any wrap - but could still need to modify your line spacing options to avoid irregular line spacings with the rest of your text.
Possibly simpler is to bear in mind that you can produce an underline without its text. To do this, select underline (Command / U) and type "non-breaking spaces" (option / space). This would allow you to place your underline on a separate line from your underlined text. You could do the same with the strikethrough function, which you access via the effects section in the font panel for closer spacing; or alter the line spacing where you need to do this.
Either of the above would affect your surrounding text in a way that would make these methods unsuitable for incorporation into body text.
However, if your interest in doing this relates to headlines or the like, one or other of these options might suit your purpose.
    Regards.

  • HP Photosmart Premium All-in-one c310a - How to print in black and white

I want to print a color pdf file in b&w on my HP Photosmart Premium All-in-one c310a printer. When I go to "features" -> color options -> grayscale -> in the drop down box, there is only one choice - "high quality". There's no "black ink only" choice as I have seen in forums on similar printers.

If you have the full feature drivers installed for this printer and there isn't a Black Ink Only option under Print in Grayscale, then this printer lacks the feature.  Typically the Black Ink Only options follows the drivers for some deskjets and most officejets, because of the office environments they are intended for.  Where as Photosmart printers are more aimed at printing photos.

  • Problems with Password and Printer Installation

I recently have been trying to install a deskjet and when I put in the installation disc and it asks me my password, I type it in and get the response
The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access priveleges.
I a) know my password is correct b) I was the only acount (therefore I had to be the administrator) until I went through the steps to make another administrator account so I could be sure that I was using the right password and acount. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!
I also know that when I purposely type in the wrong password, it tells me it is the wrong password, not the message I receive when I type in the right one.

  • Can't install deskjet 9800

    Hi all,
I'm sure this is down to my lack of knowledge! I am trying to print to an HP DeskJet 9800 at a clients, but without success.
I've found the printer in the Windows section of System prefs > Print & fax > add printer, but no driver in the "print using" list. So...I downloaded the latest Mac driver from hp.com and installed it, but when I go back to the "print using" list, I still can't see a driver for it, and don't know where on the hard drive drivers are located so I can search for it manually.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    Nige

OK...so I am now able to print to the printer, but am having real problems with the page layout.
Normal portrait documents (e.g. Word, Excel) print fine.
However, if I have a landscape document (e.g. a form in Word, or wide spreadsheet in Excel), even if I tell the print driver to print landscape, it actually prints portrait half-way down the page, missing the data from the right side as it is wider than the page.
If I save the document as a PDF, then print the PDF from Acrobat with 'rotate page' checked, it prints the right way round, but starts about 3 inches down the page, therefore missing off one end!
This must be an issue with the driver I just installed...I can print to 2 other HP Deskjets, and my Kyocera laser without any problem.
    Any help gratefully received.

  • HP Deskjet F370 driver corrupted

    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    To whom it may concern,
I installed a driver for my HP Deskjet F370 printer from the official download page (I selected Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate which I am using), but the file is corrupted. The download was successful, the installation process started, I selected which products I want to include in my installation then agreed the Licence Agreement, but then the installation stopped because a file was missing. I also tried the installation with the HP Support Assistant, but it turned out that the same corrupted file was downloaded and I got the same error message.
I kindly ask you to direct me to a link where I can download a working version of the driver.
    Yours sincerely,

  • Deskjet 3510 - Refuses to print from Mac

I am trying to install a new HP3510 Deskjet and I'm ready to smash it.
I downloaded the install file from the website (no optical drive), ran it on my Mac Mini running OS X 10.7, and...I can't print.
I plugged in the USB to do setup, and it worked, it is on my home network. I can AirPrint from my iPhone. I can plug in the USB and print.
When I go to print via Wifi from the computer, the printer queue shows up, it tells me it is connected to the printer, and then it says it gets to 2% completion and sits there. After 5 or 6 seconds, the printer "status" in the print queue changes to "idle."
If I cancel the job, I then cannot get the printer to turn off without unplugging the power cord.
I have tried rebooting both devices, uninstalling and reinstalling the printer at least a dozen times, and I am incredibly frustrated. Can anyone tell me what is going on and what I can do to fix it?

    Hi Mgrisell,
Go ahead and set a static IP for the printer. You can find out how to do that here. This should resolve the wireless issue.

  • HP Deskjet 970 Cxi

I had a problem installing the drivers for the printer, and had to re-install several times.  Worked fine but now will not stop printing when using controlP.  I have shut it off a dozen times, and it will come back and print again...it is apparently trying to print a long job of 20 Pages, and when stopped will go backwards or forward printing, but NOT SHUT OFF.  I have to open the hid which stops the printing.  When trying to print again it is re-trying the old print job, not the new one.  I have had problems with Win 8 OS and it doesn't always work the way it is supposed to, so this is not new,  but is for the HP which has always worked fine.  On the print program there is no STOP printing, and cancel doesn't work.   It usb connected to the printer, but have to unplug the printer to stop the printing.
The driver was upgraded for the Cxi, and I am about to delete the whole thing and start over, but need to have some idea of what is wrong in case it happens again!!!

    Hello @Lori20022,
I understand that you're experiencing issues when printing from your Windows 8 computer to your HP Deskjet 970cxi Printer. I would like to offer my assistance today with resolving this issue. However, support is going to be a bit challenging as we are limited for our support options. The reason being is because of the age of your Deskjet printer HP did not release Full Feature Drivers and Software for your printer on Windows 8. There actually hasn't been Full Feature drivers released for your model of printer since Windows XP. Thus, we are reliant on a generic Windows driver package to install the printing functions for your product. It definitely sounds like this generic Windows driver is experiencing printing issues within Windows latest Operating System. To be honest, a lot of these printing issues are likely stemming from the age of your product. With that being said, I will walk you through some steps on properly removing your driver and reinstalling correctly to ensure that the proper driver is being used. Please follow the steps below.
    Step 1: Uninstall Driver:
    1. Please disconnect your USB Cable from the printer, or the computer, whatever is easier
    2. Open your Start screen by selecting the Windows button on the bottom left of your computer screen or by selecting the Windows key on the bottom left of your keyboard to the right of the Ctrl button
    3. In the Start screen type Devices and Printers. Click on Devices and Printers to launch this window.
    4. In the Devices and Printers folder, right click on your HP Deskjet and select 'delete' or 'remove device'
    5. Once the printer icon is deleted, click on any item in the Devices and Printers folder once just to highlight it. Next, select Print Server Properties at the top.
    6. When the Print Server Properties window opens click on the Drivers tab. Click on your HP Deskjet driver and select Remove.
    7. A 'Remove Driver and Package' box will open. Click on 'Remove driver only' and select OK. Lastly, click Apply and OK under the Print Server Properties box.
    8. Close the Devices and Printers box.
    Step 2: Clear Temp Files:
Open your Start screen by selecting the Windows button on the bottom left of your computer screen or by selecting the Windows key on the bottom left of your keyboard to the right of the Ctrl button
In the Start screen type Run. Click on Run to launch the Run dialogue box.
In the Run box type %temp% and hit OK
When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.
Close the Temp folder once it is emptied
Right click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin
    Step 3: Reinstall Printer:
    Turn your printer ON
Plug the USB Cable in from the printer directly to your computer
Windows 8 will automatically search for the most recent driver
You should get a pop up saying the Driver Installed
If this fails, please click here for instructions on how to manually Add a Printer on Windows 8. Refer to the section on Frequently Asked Questions: How to I manually install the printer?
Once your printer is successfully added in, please try printing again to verify if everything functions properly now.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Best of luck!
