HP DV6700 problem

hello people.
my friend brought me his DV 6700 due to a noisy cpu cooling fan. I opened up the and replaced the fan with no issues.. when i put the machine back together and it powered on just fine except the monitor did not turn on. i readjusted the cables and the monitor then came on. now the power is not coming on. could the ribbon cables go bad? any ideas?

  • Pavilion dv6700 dvd drive problem

I have a Pavilion dv6700 with Vista Home Premium 32.  I can burn cd's and read cd's but when I put in a dvd (bought movie) nothing shows in "my computer".  I've ran fix it, removed registry limits, uninstalled and reinstalled and still......"devise is working properly" but still can't watch a movie.  My wife has recently added frostwire and Overdrive Media Console.  could one of these programs be causing the problem?.......Thanks for any help...

Which software are you using to watch dvd movie?
Try other software such as VLC, here

  • Problems with plugging my power chord in to my dv6700 notebook

This problem has been going on for a while and im just noticing that it is getting worse. when i plug in my power chord into my notebook i have to jiggle it to make the Blue LED go on to let the user know that power is getting into the battery. It has been getting worse now where i would have to jiggle it for minutes inorder to get the LED light to turn n and stay on. Sometimes it would turnoff if i move the notebook just a little bit and i would not know it until the battery runs out. Is this problem happening to anyone else. should i contact HP?

I didn't say you abused it...I apologize if my words seem that way.  What I was trying to say is that the jacks cannot take much in the way of lateral forces and torque...the jacks are soldered on using only three tiny pieces of metal.  The flexing of the jack caused when the power cord is allowed to hang down or bend at an angle right at the jack, or the twisting that can accompany inserting and removing the jack can cause the jack to fail.
If the motherboard is not damaged (cracked or separated where the solder joints are), it can be fixed.  If the jack has also damaged the mothterboard (cracked the PCB where the jack mounts to it), then the entire motherboard will need to be replaced.

  • Are there any particular problems with HP Pavilion dv6700 relating to sound?

Recently lost sound on HP Pavilion dv6700.  I was using it at a high volume the day before.  The next day it
showed an x beside the volume  sign and said, "No Audio Device is Installed."
The number on this is KN828UA#ABA.  The computer uses Windows Vista 32-bit.

I use several Macs with Adobe Connect and I have even created MP3 files for playback in the room. Works fine on all my macs. It's basic Flash. Suggest they clear their browser cache, replace their host-add-in if using one. Run the audio wizard as well to make sure sound is working in Connect.
All of the Adobe Connect Government engineers use Macs all the time so we've never had an issue with MP3's.

  • Hp pavillion dv6700 webcam problem with windows 7

I have hp pavillion dv6700, which had Windows Vista originally. I upgraded to Windows 7 and the webcam doesn't work amymore. When I launch Cyberlink Youcam, i get message " No video detected, please install camera" I have updated BIOS and all windows update and nothing works. "Image Device" in not shown under device manager.  Please help

Hello Abzozo1.  I understand you're getting the "webcam not detected" error.
What is the exact product number of the notebook?  This document can show you where it is located.
Has the webcam ever worked since you upgraded the operating system?
To ensure that you have all of the software installed properly I suggest installing the HP Software Framework and HP Support Assistant.  You can then run HP Support Assistant and it will automatically install any missing software.  If that doesn't resolve the issue I suggest you take a look at my thread located here.  This thread covers the common solutions to this error.
Take a look at that thread and let me know if any of the steps help.
Have a great day!  I'll keep an eye out for your next reply.

  • DV9000 & Dv6700 No Boot Problem

I have had the same no boot, black screen problem with both HP  notebooks. The only reason for submitting this post is to add to the list. The more posting the better chance (altough slim) of getting someting dome. The real problem here is poor engineering on the part of HP. They need to admit it and rectify the situation. Say what you want about Toyota, they are at least fixing the problem.
There is an outfit in Florida that will reflow the part causing the problem The charge $137.75, but the fix didn't last very long. 3 and 6 months. Their warranty appears to be they will redo it for 50% of original cast. At first it sounded better than the $300+ HP wanted. But ...................
Let's all write to Consumer Reports Magazine and see if they won't take up the cause. They review computers and ask subscribers for their experiences. A comment from them that 100"s of HP users are having problems with no help from HP could go a long way.
In the mean time ........................ don't buy HP.

How about you let someone troubleshoot the problem?  How can you know it's HP's fault when maybe it's how you used the laptop(s)?  I mean you blew up two of them already right?
When you contact Consumer Reports be sure to run a spell check first before clicking send.

    Hi geraldnpatty,
Take a look at this document, which provides troubleshooting steps for the webcam not being listed in Device Manager.  Hopefully, this will take care of the issue.  If not and it's still in warranty, I'd suggest calling in.
Please let me know if this helps.

  • HP DV6700 Laptop Problem

    Hi,
I was reformatting my HP laptop (Vista OS) and I didn't realize I was using the restore cds from my wife's older HP latop which has the XP OS back from 2005. I tried pressing the F11 key and no luck with recovery. I noticed that my wireless internet is not working either.
Is there anything I can do to get the Vista OS back? I put all my pics and files onto flash drives before I started the reformatting. I am thinking I am going to have to buy the HP Vista Restore CDs from HP. Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Randy

Did you make the restore CD set for your computer when you first got it?  You should have done so when it prompted you to do it.  You'll have to find those discs and use them.  Alternatively, you can go to the HP website, search for the drivers page for your make and model, and see if HP still sells the restore CD set for your *exact* model. If they do, there will be a link there to order them.

My dv6700 running vista 32 bit has shut down on me and when i try to start it I get the first HP screen and then get stuck on a black screen with blinking cursor.....so i can't get to the next screen to press F8.....I went to this page to download iso file to make a recovery cd http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?lang=eng&DwnldID=15074 and then used IMGBURN program to burn iso to cd....then put the burned cd into my HP cd drive and started it up but still to the black screen with blinking cursor.....then got into my bios screen on the next try to change boot order to start with cd drive but same thing...black screen blinking cursor.....I really hope someone can help me out here.......I've never posted on any forum ever...always googled everything myself cause i wasn't sure if i'd actually get a response on a forum....so i'm hoping i've been wrong this hole time......

    Hi,
I don't think the ISO you downloaded will provide the necessary repair options you need to try, so I'd suggest first creating a retail Vista installation disc and using the repair options this provides.  A full description of creating the disc ( including links to the Vista Image downloads ) can be found on the following link.
    http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/microsoft_os/3317.2-3-microsoft-windows-vi...
Once created, tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Insert the Rescue CD.  Select Boot options ( usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter.  You may also get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue' - do this if asked.
When loaded, select Repair Your Computer and choose the Command Prompt.  When this loads, enter the following commands and hit enter after each one - include spaces as shown.
    Bootrec.exe
    bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
    c:
    cd boot
    attrib bcd -s -h -r
    ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
    bootrec /RebuildBcd
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
Remove the Rescue CD and try rebooting the notebook.

    Okay, let's check the following:
    >> Do you see the DVD drive listed in "Computer" explorer? double click on it to open.
    >> Do you see the DVD drive listed in the device manager??
(Click Start and type "device" in the search field, then select Device Manager >> check for CD/DVD drive listing.)
    >> Is the DVD drive listed in the BIOS?
(Restart Your PC and start tapping F10 key, once you are in setup screen go to boot options, check for the listed devices)
also please download and run this program:

  • Sound not working for dv6700 PLEASE HELP!!!!

I'm having sound problems on my hp dv6700.  The sound was working last night and this morning, now when I went on it all of a sudden the sound stopped working.  When I plug in a set of headphones it works but the speakers don't work.  If someone could please help me out, I rather not have to take it to Best Buy and pay to have them fix it.

I am experiencing the same problem, same laptop. I did try reinstalling the Conexant Audio driver but it gave me a failure message "Could Not Find Media Device for the Drive" so looking forward to suggestions.

  • Dv6700 broken HDD "#10009 replace hard drive"

Hi, My laptop model dv6700 and harddrive: SATA 250Gb. I have made recovery discs. Issue: hard drive gave up recently and in BIOS HDD checkup it showed "#10009 replace hard drive" Query: 1)since I need to replace the hard drive, i wish to upgrade it to 500GB.Is it possible or not?? 2)if yes, are there any constraints on size, make of HDD?? 3)Once i replace my HDD how to get my old OS(i got vista home premium along with laptop)?? 4)will there be a problem if i use my recovery discs on the new 500 Gb HDD?? 5)will there be any conflict in recognizing the new HDD of 500 Gb?? Is there any other way to solve this issue without replacement?? Thanks in advance!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Here are answers to your question.
    1) You can upgrade to 500GB and its possbile without any problems
    2) No constraints on size or make. You can use any brand or manufacturer of your own choice
    3) You need to install your OS using recovery disks. There is a guide available over here
    4) There will not be any problems if you using recovery disks on new HDD
    5) There wont be any conflict. If you do face any issues, you can always post your query on the forums.
    6) Unfortunately there is no other way. If the HDD test fails, it means its gone. Only option is to replace HDD.

  • Hp dv6700 keyboard some keys locked,

hp dv6700 keyboard some keys locked, like up and down aero, Enter button, some numric buttons, some alfabate keys, remember these also not working in bios setup, plz tell me the trick how can i solve this problem?

    Hello Momma4952
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that some keys on your computer keyboard have stopped working. I will do my best to help you out! First, please provide the following information:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Guide to finding your product number
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
    3. Have you installed any new hardware on this computer, before the issue appeared?
    4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?
I would also like you to attempt the following test: Connect an external keyboard to the computer and see if the keys on that keyboard work. If the keys do not work, then we are absolutely certain there is a software/driver conflict. Otherwise, there is the potential of a hardware failure.
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Problems installing new hard drive

    Hi
I have a HP Pavilion DV6000 (or according the the bios DV6700) and the original hard drive is on the way out, as the machine locks up after a short while of being logged on. I ran the hard drive diagnostics from the bios and it confirmed that there was a fault with the hard drive and i should replace it. I stupidly never made any recovery disks and as the machine locks up i cannot make any recovery disks, so im going to have to do a clean install of Vista from a CD i got from work, and thats where ive hit a problem!
I got a new 320gb SATA drive and booted up the Vista installation but it gets stuck on "unpacking files" then eventually gives up and says "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available. Error code 0x8007045d". Ive tried a couple of different discs for Vista but it still comes up with the same message. So i thought if i put XP on it, I could then maybe upgrade to Vista..... No luck there as i got a similar message when trying to put XP on. So i went out and  got another hard drive but im still having the same problems!
Has anyone had problems with installing a new hard drive in a Pavilion laptop? Or has anyone got a suggestion how i can get Vista on to a new hard drive? Its really getting annoying now as its something so simple normally!
    Thanks in advance

Similar problem. Created an image on a new WD 320gb SATA HDD, then put it in my 9000 Pavillion. All worked great, except when I then tried to upgrade to WIN7 from XP, I got the same error.  Turned off all programs, used MSCONFIG to stop everything, but it kept stopping when unpacking the files. Same
0x8007045d error.  Tried to put the WIN7 on a mem stick to then move to the HP laptop, but everything copied except a boot.wim file in one of the subdirectories.  So I don't think that will work. Couldn't find anything that might help at the Microsoft site.
