HP ENVY m4-1015dx

I needed dual band and more bandwidth so I upgraded the wireless card from the Ralink RT5390R that comes installed with the machine to the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235. I contacted HP support and was given the part number (670292-001) and it was in stock.
Got the new card, installed it, installed the drivers, but I'm now unable to turn the card on. The F12/ Fn F12 does not work. The wireless button stays orange. I removed the Wireless button driver and reinstalled it, but no luck.
I also went into the BIOS and did a restore default settinga as suggested elsewhere, still no luck. I do have the latest BIOS from HP's site
I had windows do a "diagnose and repair" and it finds that the wireless is not turned on.
Unable to get the new Intel card to turn on with the wireless on/off button. A quick google search indicates this to be a very common problem on many HP machines.
Anyone have a working solution for this card on my model machine, the ENVY m4-1015dx?

Page 38 of the guide lists the wifi cards that are compatible.  I will note that I suspect the maintenance and service guide is incorrect about the Centrino 6235 card as the part number actually pulls up an Atheros card at partsurfer.hp.com site.  However, the Centrino 2230 card is listed in the guide and the part number does indeed return a Centrino 2230 card on the parts site.  This is more than likely correct for the Centrino 2230 which is a dual band card based on this site.  Since the part number for the 6235 card doesn't return a 6235 Intel card, it is unclear whether this card is actually supported for this system.  However, unsupported cards typically result in a BIOS error before getting into Windows.
What does the wifi card look like in device manager?  Is it flagged as having an error?  If so, what is the status message?

You'll need to eject the battery and then remove the service panel on the bottom.  You can see the illustrated parts in the manual posted above.  Let me know if you need anything else.

    Hi
I assume your laptop is installed with Windows 7 64bit : HP ENVY Ultrabook 4-1015dx Product Specifications
How did you come to know its really the BIOS that's corrupted? What were you doing before bricking it?
Try what HaggisCat did for flashing BIOS - similar method with BIOS available for your model in your product site:
You can try with the latest , then any of the just previous ones -
    Latest
    Previous versions
If these dont work out, Contact HP for MB repair or local tech guys to know the exact problem so that if its BIOS chip thats needed to be changed or reprogrammed.

  • Envy M4 with atheros AR9485 wireless adaptor

I recently purchased an Envy M4 1015dx and I wanted to add bluetooth to it. From HP's site I purchased the Atheros  AR9485 PN#675794-001 and installed it. I've downloaded the drivers from the site and installed them, but I have no bluetooth options anywhere that I can find. I've searched through the forum here and had no luck on what I'm doing wrong. The service guide for my computer shows that the card is supported and the wifi part seems to be working fine, but no bluetooth. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks.

After doing some more research on that wireless adapter, I determined that it does not have bluetooth compatibility.
Here is the product page for the wireless adapter and it does not mention bluetooth anywhere on it:
    http://www.qca.qualcomm.com/networking/brand.php?brand=3&product=105
For bluetooth to work, you would have to have one of the following devices -
    Atheros AR3011 Bluetooth 3.0 + HS Adapter
Qualcomm Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth 4.0 + HS Adapter
Qualcomm Atheros AR9462 Bluetooth 4.0 + HS Adapter
Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 Bluetooth 4.0 + HS Adapter

  • Fingerprint Sensor/Reader not working?

I completely wiped my computer clean with a fresh recovery since I had problems. Everything has been running smoothly except the Fingerprint sensor. When I used to swipe my finger it would light up and HP SimplePass would open up. Now nothing happens. The computer doesn't seem to recognize or read the sensor.
I checked on "control panel\hardware and sounds\biometric" and the status shows AuthenTec Unavailable. I contacted HP customer service almost 5 times in the past 4 hours to get this resolved but all said the same thing "install/uninstall" HP SimplePass and AuthenTec. Made my mind go crazy in having to re-boot my computer every 10 minutes.
The sensor is completely dead, nothing happens when I swipe my finger. And every rep has been telling me the samething that hasn't fixed the problem, just more headaches. Please does anyone have a fix for this?

  • Webcam no longer working

I have an ENVY m4-1015dx Notebook
I just used my webcam last week to skype, but I went to skype last night and the video option didn't work. Thinking it might have just been skype, I tried to open the camera app. It prompts me to connect a camera. I've been directed to go to imaging devices in the device manager, but the "imaging devices" option isn't there.
How do I get my webcam back?

    Hello @HelpDana ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues with the webcam on your ENVY m4 notebook.
If the imaging devices section is not available in Device Manager you might need to show the hidden devices. You can do this by clicking View at the top of Device Manager and selecting Show hidden devices in the list.
If the webcam is not listed in Imaging devices, you may also find it under Other devices, listed as an Unknown device or Imaging device.
If you have any Unknown devices, right click on them and select Properties. In the Properties window select the Details tab at the top. Change the drop down menu to Hardware Ids and post the first ID in the list in a reply.
If the webcam is listed as an imaging device or as a webcam in Imaging devices after showing hidden devices, right click on it and select Update driver software. Allow Windows to search automatically and see if the driver installs and resolves the problem.
The drivers for webcams are built in to the Windows operating system and I cannot provide you with a simple download. If the device is not listed you're looking at a hardware issue or registry error. I would suggest performing a system restore to before the issue started. You can see how to do this here: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8) or Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7).
I look forward to your reply!

  • HP Ultrabook Envy model 4-1015dx

A while ago while powering on my laptop something weird popped up on the screen and said "______ boot" I cannot remember what kind of boot it said but while it was running I helo down the power button and force powered off the computer. Ever since then it has been almost completely non responsive. The power button will not light up and it shows no signs of power, except, after being plugged in to the charger for an amount of time, a tiny light on the wifi button will blink. Besides tag there is no sign of power. I just wanted to know if I completely killed it or if it is save-able. It was a fairly new computer only a year and a half old and used mostly for school work. The files were all kept organized and I ran system clean ups regularly. I frequently visited a video to audio conversion sight to convert video files into audio files which I then transferre to my iTunes but I kept all the files organized in folders. I Visited social media websites but nothing that should have given me a virus. Just curious if anyone could shed some light.

  • HP Envy trackpad issues

Hi, I hope this problem can be fixed without having to return my laptop. I bought an HP Envy about a week ago and I've been having issues with the touchpad/trackpad or whatever you'd like to call it. My product number is E1P04AAR. The touchpad just simply doesn't behave. It's not precise, it rarely lets me right click, sometimes only clicking it works and sometimes only tapping it works. It jumps around sometimes for no reason at all. This is really bothering me and I hope someone could please help me out or tell me what to do. Thank you.

Hi hamdiabdi, welcome to the HP Forums. I understand that your TouchPad is acting erratically.
Maybe "Adjusting TouchPad or ClickPad pointing sensitivities in Windows 8", "Turning all TouchPad gestures off and on in Windows 8" and "Troubleshooting when TouchPad does not work in Windows 8" will have useful steps to try from this document: Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8)
Let me know if any of those steps help

  • HP AiO Remote app will not recognize scan and copy function of HP Envy 120

Hi UJKarl, welcome to the HP Forums. You should be able to scan from the HP AIO Remote App on your Envy 120 printer. You probably just need to power cycle the printer, iPad and router to regain proper function.
Turn off your printer with the power button. Power down the iPad by holding the sleep button down until you get the option to 'slide to power off'. Then disconnect the power cord to your router and count to about 10, and then plug it back in. Once the router comes back online, turn the printer on. When the printer comes back online (blue wi-fi light stops blinking), then power the iPad back up. Try again, and it should work.
Let me know how it turns out.

  • Is it possible to upgrade/add a graphics card to a Hp Envy dv7 dv7-7243cl laptop

I've been doing a lot of research lately, to mostly no avail, about whether or not my HP Envy dv7 dv7-7243c laptop can have a dedicated GPU added to it, as currently it only has the integrated Intel HD 4000 Mobile graphics card.
Mostly I've come across the unfortunate agreement that most laptops cannot have their graphics cards upgraded/swapped out, since the graphics card is soldered on to the motherboard. However, after talking to an HP "support representative", they said they believed it was possible to add a graphics card, as long as it is compatible with the  Motherboard my computer has.
Furthermore, after finding the maitenence and service manual online for my computer ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf ) it says that it could have come with switchable graphics, specifically the Nvidia Geforce 630M or 650M.
So I am wondering, is it really at all possible to add a dedicated graphics card, either by having switchable graphics or something else? Or am I stuck with the integrated Intel HD graphics?
If I can upgrade/add a new card, where would I be able to find/buy a compatible one, and would I be able to install it myself or would I need to go to a local computer repair?
My laptop is the HP Envy dv7 dv7-7243cl Entertainment Notebook.
It has an Intel Core i7- 3630QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz, 12 GB memory, 150 GB SSD hard drive, 1 TB hard drive (5400 rpm).
I am currently running Windows 8.1 Home Premium SP1 (64-bit).

    You're very welcome.
I am not a PC repair tech by trade or training.
Other than the replacement motherboard, and fan and heatsink combination, I wouldn't know if any other parts are required.
The parts you need are listed in chapter 3 of the service manual with the part numbers.
I also don't know if the boards come with the windows 8 product key included in the BIOS.
There may be multiple motherboards listed, so make sure you get the right one.
Same for the fan and heatsink.

  • Blue Screen of Death and USB malfunctions on HP Envy running Windows 7

    Hello.
I have an HP Envy 14 notebook PC. It's running Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, version 6.1.7601. When I run it, I eventually starts getting an error message from the right of the desktop toolbar telling me that a USB device I plugged in is malfunctioning and did not get installed correctly. This is happening while my USB ports are empty.
As this is happening, the computer also starts playing background static that you can hear over headphones as well. This sound goes away once you mute the machine. After plugging the computer into a monitor to play sound through its speakers, there is also a curious effect; after I remove all the cords and plug in earphones, I hear amplified booming sounds from small movements, rather than what is meant to be playing. This latter effect goes away once I restart the computer,
Eventually, the computer displays a blue screen and crashes. The blue screen asks me to disable BIOS memory options such as caching and shadowing. Once the machine restarts, it informs gives me the following report:
    Problem signature:

It also gives me the option to check for solutions. Doing so closes the screen and gives no further information. Please advise as to how to address these issues.

I have the same issue you have had. This happend to my old hp, I thought it was a fluke so when I bought my new hp envy a year ago I was dumbfounded to see that its happening all over again. This time my hp envy 14 is doing the same thing yours did with the same code and all. Can you please tell me what you did to fix this or were you even able to fix it at all?
