HP Jetdirect Printing over LAN with 2 iMacs with Airport Extreme

I have an interesting situation:
3 iMacs on network
1 iMac connected directly to an Airport Extreme base (does not have Airport card) - this station connected to USB inkjet printer - printing to the Laserjet mentioned below is not necessary.
2 iMacs connected to Airport wireless internet. These two iMacs are (were) connected to a HP Jetdirect 175x print server using ethernet. Both iMacs are (were) sharing a HP Laserjet 1200. Once the network was configured to see the internet via the Airport on both iMacs the ability to print was lost on ethernet. As long as the wireless network connection is maintained the Laserjet printer does not appear to be connected.
Aside from the blatantly obvious solution of connecting the HP Jetdirect print server directly to the Airport Extreme is there a way to configure the network to allow the current ethernet printing to work while the iMacs remain connected to the internet using wireless?
Logistics in the home make the movement of the Airport and/or the Laserjet printer impossible.
Any ideas on a work around?

Aside from the blatantly obvious solution of connecting the HP Jetdirect print server directly to the Airport Extreme...
What is it connected to?
Do you by chance have another router and that device is connected to it? If so, configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) so that it is acting as a bridge (NOT sharing a single IP address).

Read the user manual that came w/the printer and/or contact HP Support.

Can't drag and drop nor copy and past with iMac with OS 10.8.1.  Not with iTunes, MS Word, nor Pages.  No where.  Reboot or relogging in helps for about an hour.  Hard reset worked for a short time. Per Apple support, most likely will reinstall the operation system.  Just wondered if anybody else has run into this.  Did a disk scan, and that was fine.  And did rebooting, holding down CMD+OPT+R, and P..  Deleted all the start up programs.  Checked the internet, no solutions there.  So it all appears to be OS redo time.

I removed the NextDef plug in over 24 hours ago, restarted and haven't had a single issue with drag and drop or cut and paste since.

  • Setting up new printer with currently inactive AirPort Extreme

Is it possible to share a printer with 4 laptops using an Airport Extreme while another router provides the internet?
    Here's what I have:
    - Linksys WRT54GS wireless G router (in use)
    - AirPort Extreme (older & not currently in use)
    - MacBook Pro (running OS 10.5.3)
    - 3 Dell XPS m1710 laptops (running Windows XP)
    - Old Dell Dimension (running Fedora Linux)
    - Dell 1110 printer
    - Canon i80 printer (w/ Bluetooth adapter)
    - HP Photosmart printer
I want to be able to print with the Dell 1110 printer from any laptop. I looked to connect it to the Linksys router but the router does not have a USB slot - the AirPort Extreme does. Is this a possibility?
Also, the Linksys router MUST stay. I'm sure many will suggest dropping it in favor of the AirPort extreme but this is not a possibility.
    Thank you =)

Thanks for the help, I'm definitely getting there
I changed the settings as you've described and can now print from my MBP. The 3 Dell laptops are another matter. Would you have any idea what the IP address of the printer would be? Or the AirPort Extreme? I'm following this tutorial:
    http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1004.html
without much success but I'm really guessing at the IP address. I've tried 192.168.1.1 (my router) and 192.168.1.101 (the IPv4 address) with no luck. I suspect it's the IP address that's the problem ...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

  • What external dvd drive is compatible with IMAC with optical drive

what external drive is compatiblee with IMAC with optical driv

As far as my experience goes I have had all external dvd drives work throu USB, the USB stands for Universal Seriel Bus and that means the drives are already in the device, so you can probably just go to best buy or to new egg and order a cheap one.
If you have usb 3.0 I would go with that since its one of the faster ones and you will save money on using a thunder bolt device, and trust me a $17 dvd player works just as good as a $120 dvd player.

  • Can you share a hard drive with the current airport extreme

    Hey all!
I read that you can share USB drives with the new airport extreme. Can you do that with the current ones?
    Thanks,
    B

Massi65, Welcome to the discussion area!
You really should start a new thread since your question is about the new square AEBS and the thread started with a question about the previous AEBS.
With either AEBS you could wirelessly gain access to a hard drive by one of these 3 methods:
Use a hard drive with wireless networking capabilities. The drive would connect to the wireless network like any other wireless client.
Use a hard drive with an Ethernet interface. Connect the drive to the AEBS's LAN port.
Connect a hard drive via FireWire or USB to another Mac and then share the drive from that Mac.
The new square AEBS offers a new possibility. You can connect a USB drive directly to the new AEBS and share it to devices connected to the AEBS's network.
    What performance could I expect?
No one can answer this directly since no one has any of these devices to try.

  • Are there any compatibility issues with Sonos and Airport extreme??

are there any compatibility issues with Sonos and Airport extreme??

Sonos uses its own priopietory wireless protocol SonosNet to distribute audio data among all its products, thus it should not affect other network devices which use standard WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n protocol at all though they may share the same radio channel for wirless signaling.
On my dual-band (5 GHz / 2.4 GHz) Airport Extreme staion, I select the option "802.11n Only (5GHz) - 802.11n (2.4GHz)" and turn on "Use wide channels" in Wireless configuration in order to use only 802.11n protocol and more radio channels to achieve maximum wireless bandwidth of 400 Mbps. This bandwidth is necessary for quick Time Machine backup to NAS connected to the Airport Extreme station through Ethernet cable. So my iMac and MacBook Pro always connected to the Airport Extreme through 5 GHz radio channel with 802.11n protocol whereas my iPhone 4S always connected through 2.4 GHz radio channel with the same protocol.
In my living room Sonos ZP-90 (same as new CONNECT model) zone player is connected to Airport Extreme directly through Ethernet cable (recommended by Sonos) and Sonos S5 (same as new PLAY:5 model) zone player in bedroom is connected wirelessly through SonosNet protocol to the ZP-90 zone player in living room.
These devices are in operation simutaneouly most of the time. Music is playing through the Sonos ZP90/S5 zone players througout the day, I am streaming viedo through Internet (fibre broadband 25 Mbps) on my MacBook Pro in bedroom or iMac in living room or reading news on my iPhone. So far so good and have no encounter any interference problem for about three years. Further more bandwidth for 802.11n protocol does not seem to be affected at all.
In fact with a low power Fujitsu USB drive (2.5" / 500 GB, designed for notebook) plug into USB port of Airport Extreme, it can be used as NAS drive for Sonos music distribution system without any problem. Just transfer all files from Music folder in my home directory on iMac into this NAS drive and set it up as music source in "Manage > Music Library Settings" in Sonos Controller for Mac application will do. Though the same drive can be served as Time Machine's backup disk as well, an independent full-fledged NAS drive for Sonos and Time Machine backup is better long-term solution for reliability and performance. With the NAS configured as sole music source, you do not need to keep any computer powered on all the time in order to play music through the Sonos system.

I have a MacBook Pro connected and also a Mac Pro connected to the network on it and they still work, i have put the latest software on the PC and the firmware is up to date. The only thing i can see on the network on the PC is the basestation Hard Disk (shared also to the Macs) but i cannot connect with the password, i have tried everything in my knowledge, including formatting the machine and reinsatlling OS and changing security setting to no avail. Any ideas anyone?

I'm not sure how to post a message. I hope this might interest someone. The situation; 3 floors,I am having trouble with an an Airport Extreme, 802.11n on the top floor and a Mac Pro 3.1 on the bottom floor. Not always but often it has trouble seeing the Airport and making a connection. I have an older Airport Express, would it help to install it? would it work best if it was installed in the same room? should it be installed half way in between? Get another Extreme? The Mac Book Pro on the middle floor can see 11 networks in the neighbourhood if that might be causing a problem or would if I installed the Express. Thank for your consideration.

Thanks for your time ... I appologize for the font and colour, I compossed the question in pages and failed to notice the font colour as grey ... there are a variety of computers of various ages so I think it is using a setting that allows both 5G and 2.4 ... the connection to the Airport is thru a cable modem and cable does run throuhout the house ... maybe those hard wires would be a place to look at ... do you think that putting the 'Express' on the second floor might help ... thanks again ...

  • Apple TV mirroring issues even with Mac mini, airport extreme bought at the end of last year, and an iPad 2

Apple TV mirroring issues even with Mac mini, airport extreme bought at the end of last year, and an iPad 2

I have the same issue with ATV3 and iPhone 4S. Everything works properly, no buffering issues when watching netflix, vimeo, youtube BUT when I try mirroring even a small 15sec iPhone movie it stutters and buffers and results to a choppy playback..same with larger mp4 files such as 1-1.5GB, buffers forever and never plays, I just re-encoded the same movie to 700MB and plays perfectly..
Why Apple, why?..so close..I can accept the bigger movie files issue, but not being able to playback properly an iPhone movie is funny..I recorded a movie with lower bitrate through Filmic Pro (Economy mode, up to 16Mbps)
    and plays properly.
Is there an upcoming software update going to solve the problem or is it hardware related and therefore not fixable.
Please don't reply with a network related answer, by 2012 we know how to set up our networks and everything else runs flawlessly.
I'll apreciate a fast answer, we love Apple, but if it can't play an iphone movie (or a high quality movie from iTunes) it's just not up to my standards.
    Thanks again.

  • My old Time capsule was not working well.  I replaced it with a new Airport Extreme.  Now I can see the other airport express stations.  I tried resetting them, but it did not work.  What do I do?

I replaced my old time capsule with a new airport extreme.  I have 3 airport express stations that I have all around the house.  (2 1st generation, 1 second generation).  I can't see them with airport utility.  I tried resetting, but no luck.  Any suggestions?

Bring all the express to the same room as the mac you are using to setup the network..
One by one, plug them in and do full factory reset on them.. they should then show up in the Airport utility as Other Wi-Fi devices (1) and you can select them and continue the setup.
If that fails try using the airport utility on ipad or iphone as they are far less problematic than Yosemite in particular.

  • What type of repeater should I use with my new Airport Extreme?

what type of repeater should I use with my new Airport Extreme? Thanks.

If you want to repeat both bands of your dual band AirPort Extreme, another AirPort Extreme would meet these requirements.
If you only need to extend one of the bands that the AriPort Extreme provides, then an Airport Express would do that nicely.

  • What ADSL modem do you advise to use with my new airport extreme? I have tried a basic TP-Link ADSL2  modem and I can't get the configuration working. What modem does Apple recommend?

I am having problems setting up airport extreme.
What ADSL modem do you advise to use with my new airport extreme? I have tried a basic TP-Link ADSL2+  modem and I can't get the configuration working. What modem does Apple recommend?

Ok well I have looked around some more and have found this to be the most up to date official response to my question as seen at this link here:
    http://www.actiontec.com/support/product_details.php?pid=41#q27
Can I Bridge the Actiontec MI424WR router that Verizon provided, when I signed up for FiOS service?
The MI424WR does not have a bridging option, and neither Verizon nor Actiontec support attempting to bridge it.
The desire to bridge the MI424WR is based on a misunderstanding that it is a modem as well as a router. Actiontec does produce DSL Gateways that have a Transparent-Bridging option, which bypasses or disables the router function and allows the Gateway to act simply as a DSL modem, when it is enabled. Many consumers do not realize that with FiOS, the ONT (typically outside the home) is the device that handles changing the FiOS signal from Fiber to either Ethernet or Coax, and that the Router is just a Router, and if it was bridged or bypassed, it would be a device without a function. For most Verizon FiOS customers their service would completely stop if the MI424WR was bridged, because the Video on Demand service is dependent on it to work.
If your ONT is connected to the Actiontec MI424WR router via Coax, the MI424WR is required due to the Coax connection. But if the ONT is connected to the MI424WR via Ethernet, then in most cases some other router can be substituted for the MI424WR, and it can be removed."
So it looks like I will be calling Verizon support to see about getting the Ethernet connection installed and getting another modem...

  • Can I use my 2010 AirPort Extreme as a range extender with a new AirPort Extreme?

I want to use an existing AirPort Extreme (2010 model) with a new AirPort Extreme to extend the range and signal strength into a shop. They are different designations, one n and the other ac. Are they compatible. I need to know before I buy the new router.

The new AirPort Extreme will provide an ac,n,g,b compatible wireless signal.
The existing AirPort Extreme can be configured to extend the n,g,b signal, but it cannot extend the ac signal.
