HP Laserjet 1012 and AP Express--PUZZLED

I cannot get my HP Laserjet 1012 to print wirelessly from my Airport Express. I had an Airport Extreme before and I it worked flawlessly.
In the Printer Setup Utility, the 1012 printer is recognized quickly—no problems with that. But it can't find a driver. Under "Print Using" I select "HP" and get the long list of HP printer drivers. There is no Laserjet 1012. None of the others seem to work. What do I do?
I downloaded the latest driver off the HP website for 1012 but it said it could not install it because I already had it installed! I have no idea what is going on. Please help!!

What you might try is to reset the MacOS printing system - see Mac OS X 10.4: About the Reset Printing System feature

  • HP LaserJet 1160 and Airport Express

I recently got an HP LaserJet 1160le and wanted to hook it up to my network using an Airport Express. I have used other printers with the airport express in its current config with no problems, but now I have an issue.
If i plug the printer directly into my powerbook via USB, the driver is automatically detected and everything is spiffy. When I add the printer through Bonjour, it doesn't detect the driver. The 1160 and 1320 are nearly identical and the drivers are almost the same, so I choose the 1320 driver.
When I print i get a single page with a few lines that state:
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0 %RBINumCopies: 1
There are a few more lines but nothing that really seems to point to the problem. When I try and add the same printer to an XP Pro machine the Bonjour Printer Wizard tells me I don't have proper privillages to add the printer through Bonjour. Anyone have any ideas or solutions?

Just as a quick sidenote, I failed to mention that I was able to get it to work on my XP Pro machine selecting 1100 series as my driver. It seems this is only related to my two macs.

  • HP Color LaserJet 2600n and Airport Express Issues

To me it seems like more of an issue with the Airport Express and Snow Leopard. Am I totally off base on this. I tried the work around post in another thread on here and it just fails to connect to the printer properly. Either way, I wonder how long it will take to get this fixed.

  • How do you get LaserJet 1012 connected to a Windows 7 (64 bit professional) operating system?

This is weird.  The plug-and-play feature should put the printer up and running, but it doesn't.  It doesn't even recognize the printer as such (it's called "unspecified).  The Pavilion people say thay cannot help because it isn't the computer's problem (duh!), and they give me a broken link for printer help (duh!)
Then the HP site for drivers does not have a Windows 7 driver for the LaserJet 1012, and trying to get help, that product isn't even supported anymore.
Any suggestions?  Does HP even monitor these cries of distress from the swamp?

A user in this thread suggested using the Laserjet 3055 PCL 5 driver and other users reported success.

  • Printing to Airport Express connected Laserjet 1012 very slow after update to 10.6.8

After updating a pair of computers that we have here to 10.6.8, printing to our Airport Express connected HP LaserJet 1012 has become incredibly slow. I timed it and it is taking 2:30 to print a blank page, whereas printing the same blank page under 10.6.7 (on an external drive connected to the same MacBook Pro) happens within 2 seconds. One thing that I have noticed is that when I bring up the HP Printer Queue the computer says 'connecting to printer' for 20 - 30 seconds, then sits at 50% complete on the printing for some time - anyone else running into similar problems?

Because I am not experiencing the same issue I have not needed to apply the CNET article. But just to be clear, did you follow the instructions to the letter?
If you did and it's still not working then you can begin narrowing down where the problem is by following some basic trouble shooting steps. First thing I'd try is creating a new user account (call it TEST ACCOUNT) and leave it alone, then try printing from that account. If it works then you know it's a software issue in your normal user account. If it still doesn't work then what I'd do is:
    1. Download 10.6.8 Combo Update at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    2. Disconnect all peripherals (including the printer)
    3. Backup using both Time Machine and/or a Bootable Clone using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner
    4. Restart from the Bootable Clone or the Snow Leopard install discs.
         a) choose language
         b) Click Utililities Menu
         c) Disk Utility
         d) highlight the internal HD and the First Aid tab
         e) Repair Disk Permissions, Verify Disk & Repair Disk.
         f) exit Disk Utility and restart in Safe Mode
    5. Install the Combo Update
    6. Restart normally and test the system
    7. Begin connecting peripherals one by one and testing each.

  • Hp Laserjet 1012 printing via Bonjour on 10.4.6

I recently upgraded my OS from 10.3.9 to 10.4.6 and I couldn't find and install drivers for my hp LaserJet 1012 when connected through Airport Express. Printer is visible as a Bonjour printer. USB printing works just fine, so I assume the drivers are somehow installed. I was able to use my printer through AP Express when my PB was running 10.3.9.
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Powerbook G4 12" Rev B   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi, Kappy. Thanks for the response.
    Actually, it's neither article.
The one I'm looking for appears at the bottom of a help page (Mac Help) when I do a search on "compatible printers". It's listed in the "Open this for me" sdection at the bottom of the help page and is entitled "Printers compatible with Mac OS X".
When I click on that link, I end up at a web page that says "Looking for something on the Mac OS X site? The page you tried was not found."
This whole exercise is turning into an absolute nightmare!!! The day before yesterday, following the suggestions in one of the Apple documents, I re-installed the HP drivers from the supplemental installations on the Tiger DVD.
I then deleted the printer in the System Preferences and re-created it.
When I tried to print, in OS X, it printed without a hitch! I then tried an application in the Classic environment and this also printed without a problem. I figured that my problem was solved and had been solved by the re-installation of the HP drivers. I left the printer on, as usual, shutdown the Mac, as usual, and went to bed.
Yesterday morning, I figured I would confirm that my problem was indeed solved; just before leaving for work, I turned the Mac on, and tried to print. Guess what? It wouldn't print at all. Nothing happens other than what I've been getting since installing 10.5.2: "Waiting for device", etc...
Next step: I'll partition one of my drives, re-install 10.4 from the original DVD and won't apply any upgrades. I won't migrate any users either but will just create a dummy user. This should allow me to print, since this setup had been running without any problems for a few years. Then I can always re=boot from that system whenever I want to print... But what a hassle!!!

  • HP LaserJet 1012 won't print in Leopard

I have a HP LaserJet 1012 (probably 3 or so years old) connected to my iMac (2.16GHz 20") via USB ... it worked like a champ under 10.4 and still works like a champ under Windows XP (via BootCamp) ... but it seems as soon as I moved to Leopard, the printer keeps hanging ... in the printer's status box it hangs on "Opening printer connection" ... then after some time it seems to timeout and the print job registers "stopped" in the que.  I don't know what I do different, but every once in a while it prints (I try to delete que items, I even delete the printer and re-add it ... the computer sees it and recognizes it as a 1012 when I add the printer ... so I can't imagine it is a connection problem)
    Thanks for any assist!
    V/R,  Jay

I contacted HP tech support and they emailed me a fix. My printer has been working fine for the last 24 hours and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Here is what they sent me:
At this point is having issue of incompatibility regarding the driver of some printers and the Software of Leopard. But the driver will be on the HP Web side as soon as our technicians can put it there .
In the meantime you can try this:
    Uninstall
Open your hard drive and look for Library
    Look for Printers Folder
    Choose HP folder
At last drag the whole LaserJet folder to the trash
    Repair
Open your hard drive and choose applications
    Choose Utilities
Then select Disk Utility (double click on it)
In the following window select the name of you hard drive
At the bottom is an option "Repair Disk Permissions"(one click on it)
    Install
Insert your Leopard installation DVD, click on the Optional Installs icon
    Then Optional Installs.mpkg
    Then Continue
    Agree to the License
Then from the Custom Install window click on the arrow next to the Printer Drivers
Then put a checkmark on the Hewlett-Packard Printer Drivers and then click on continue (note: I didn't see this option - instead it just installed drivers for a bunch of printer companies)
Finish the installation and then restart your Mac.

The 1100 drivers and the HP Laserjet 1.3 driver are not available as a choice when setting up on the Mac. Anyone have any ideas or solutions?

It may work with a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers or the Gimp-Print drivers, but this is not the case with all printers.
    HPIJS
    Use the process outlined here:

  • HP laserjet P2035 on airport express not playing nice with Windows

I recently bought a new HP laserjet P2035 and hooked it up to my network via the usb connector on an airport express 802.11n. The Airport Express extends my network created on an Airport extreme 802.11n dualband.
I have a MBP 13 and it prints fine. The problem I have is with two PC's. I installed Bonjour on both of them (one on Vista and another one on XP) and they started to print fine. The next day, only my Mac was able to print. Nothing changed whatsoever. Only that I turned off the printer for the night.
I checked and both Windows machines and the printers appear just like they did the day before.
    Any ideas?

    Anybody?

  • Will my hp Laserjet 1012 printer work with my new Mac Mini (OS 10.7, Lion)?

I finally have to upgrade from my Mac Mini OS 10.4.11 to a Mac Mini OX 10.7, and wonder if I have to buy all new peripherals, too.
    Here's what I have:
HP Laserjet 1012 black and white printer
    Proview 17-inch display, PL913s
Epson Perfection 4490 flatbed scanner. (I scan a lot of manuscript pages and must have a scanner with an adjustable top)
    Wired keyboard with numeric keypad
    Wired mouse
Yes, I know they're old, but they work fine!
    Thank you!

    Hello Fiona6,
I use iMac (Snow Lep) and 2011 Mini (Lion) and from both systems my results are:
Wired keyboard & mouse - work ok, I don't like or use wireless types.
My LaserJet 1010 - works ok (Your 1012 should also work, same series of printer).
If your display works ok now, cannot see why it would not work. My mini works with various vga and DVI displays I have at various times attached to it.
Don't know about your scanner though, with my all in one printer/scanner I have had to use OS X Image Capture program to scan. Might be worth a look at Epson's site to check on any software updates.
    Roy.
Edit: Regarding display if you are getting a new mini you will need a new display adapter, minidisplayport to vga or dvi, assuming your display is one of these. This can be plugged into the Thunderbolt port on the new Macs.

  • HP LaserJet 1012 - Wireless from Mac to PC

    Hi all,
    Here's my situation:
I have a desktop PC running Vista that my HP Laserjet 1012 is connected to - works fine. Wired connection to Linksys WRT54G.
    I have a MBP 2.33GHZ C2D connected wirelessly to the WRT54G.
I would like to be able to print wirelessly from my MBP to my Laserjet 1012 while still keeping it connected to my PC. I did a few searches and got a bit lost I'm afraid. I tried sharing the printer (and I believe I successfully "logged into it" on the printer menu on my Mac) but I was unable to locate the printer.
Any ideas about the easiest way to do this? Thanks!

  • Driver for HP Laserjet 1012 to work under Windows 7- 64 bit

Am trying to install a HP Laserjet 1012 to work under Windows 7- 64 bit and at HP Support, could find drivers for Vista -64-bit only.
I have tried to install this Vista - 64 bit driver and it does not seem to even print a test page.
Is there some other tweak that I need to make or
        or
does it mean there will be no driver specifically usable for Win - 7 and I might as well junk the printer?
    Thanks in advance.

  • HP Laserjet 1012 Windows 7 64-bit Driver

I cannot find a Windows 7 64-bit driver for my Laserjet 1012. Has anyone else had any luck?

Win 7 X64 works with my Trusty HP Laserjet 1012.
    From Start/Devices and Printers.
    Choose add a printer.
Had to use Windows update at the bottom of the install printer driver window because the HP Laserjet 1015 was not on the list of HP printers. But after the update there it was "HP Laserjet 1015".
I did the intstall and it is working on my Win7 x64 machine and Office 2010. By the way, I chose Generic IEEE 1284.4 as the printer port (See comment below)
If you look on the HP website, they show the most recent drivers only for Vista x64 but the drivers are for the HP Laserjet 1010, 1012, 1015. So 1015 drivers will work but I did the install through Windows add printer as stated earlier in this thread and seems Win7 offers support for this legacy printer.
    Comment:
Oddly the HP HP Laserjet 1012 also shows in unspecified devices on the Devices and printers page and did so before I installed the printer...I could not delete it but right clicking and Running Troubleshout gave me the choice to fix it saying "The driver for Generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support is not installed. Install the latest driver for the device." I believe chosing Apply this fix would have made it work. I am hoping on reboot it dissapears from unspecified. I will repost later

  • HP Laserjet 1012 -- suddenly stopped printing; gives cryptic message

I have an HP Laserjet 1012 hooked up to my iMac. The driver is already installed on the system, and there is no updated driver available from HP.
It's been performing wonderfully until today. Now, everytime I attempt to print, it just prints a page with the phrase "Unsupported Personality:PCL".
What does this mean? Any idea how to get it printing again?

I have to say, HP is notorious for terrible Mac support. There drivers, especially for scanners, is just plain horrible.

  • Hp laserjet 1012 won't print - need help

Nothing in spooler. Spooler cleared.  Can't print.

My hp laserjet 1012 was printing very well for the last two years. Three days back, in the print I suddenly saw a big blank streak indicating that the printer cartridge may be exhausted. After that, it is not printing anymore on print command.  Yellow light has been flashing all the time.So I went out and bought the printer cartridge recommended, namely, Q 2612A. I have put it in. Still it appears not to have gotten back to the green print mode.
Any comments/suggestions? Everything looks okay otherwise.
