HP Laserjet 1022 and Win7

Hi All - Hope there's some Win7 print sharing experts here.
HP have updated their drivers for Windows 7 (32 & 64bit). I run the desktop with Windows 7 64 bit with the 1022 connected. The laptop runs Windows 7 32 bit.
Everything prints fine from the Desktop which the 1022 is connected to via USB. The laptop can see the 1022 but printing a test page from the laptop simply doesn't happen. You can see the test file in the 1022 print queue but that's it so obviously it's getting across the wi-fi network. Both are members of the homegroup with everything enabled.
Rebooting the Desktop back into Win XP (32bit) and everything prints just fine to the printer from the laptop. I think I've tried everything so any help/advice would be appreciated.
This question was solved.

Hello,
I've been using VISTA with my 1022 printer and the wireless upgrade kit.  Now I have Windows 7 32-bit and was told there's no patch for the upgrade kit.
However, as my laptop's on a wireless home network, can I access the printer wirelessly using my wireless network (and ignoring the wireless HP upgrade kit?)
hope so,
Anj

  • Printing Problem with HP LaserJet 1022 and OS 10.4

I am having a problem printing one page of a document on my HP LaserJet 1022 with OS 10.4. All other documents seem to be printing fine, but when I try to print one particular page of a 90 page WORD doc, that page consistently comes out with a big black streak across it and it does something to the printer because all the lights start flashing.
I have powered off, unplugged, reset the printer subsystem, reinstalled the printer driver, and even tried to print on my laptop, and the same thing keeps happening. The document printed for me fine a few weeks ago.
Any suggestions on a work-around for this or a permanent solution? I really need to print this page on my printer ASAP. Thank you.

The page looks perfect in preview and as a PDF. I can't print from the PDF, however, because it shrinks the text and expands the margins ...
Something's fishy. Save as PDF should result a file that looks exactly, precisely, like what you'd get if you printed directly to your printer.
I suspect your Word document has been corrupted by a few bytes of random data that is causing your printer to go nuts. Try cutting that portion out of the document, and pasting it in a new blank document so you can incrementally isolate the damage.
This isn't going to be as easy as it sounds, because when the PostScript printer driver encounters the errant code in the Word document, it's essentially telling the printer "now, go to the top of this page, print a nasty black smudge, and then crash." You might have to cut a whole page before and after the suspected corruption. If you're lucky you might be able to cut the portion then paste it right back as "unformatted text". Try that.

We should all be so fortunate. Word does use the standard OS X Print dialog though.

  • HP Laserjet 1022 and Other USB Devices

    Hi All,
I have an issue with a HP Laserjet 1022 printer and a HP Pavilion A145.uk desktop computer.
When the printer is connected to the computer it all works fine, when I try to insert a Kingston flash drive all I get is a message saying USB Device not recognised.
I have tried installing the lastest drivers for the printer on the computer but I still get the issue and it becoming very annoying.
I have searched the internet and tried all of the registry 'hacks' to try and resolve this but its still an issue.
    Thanks
    Rob

    Rob,
The problem is with the cable.
I had a similar problem for about 2 years where my LJ 1022 would only work with a single Windows XP PC I had.  It would not work with the new vista PC I got. I kept getting "usb device not recognised" whenever I tried installing the printer. I thought that it was a problem with the Vista software drivers but when my Windows XP machine died and I tried unsuccessfully to get it to work with 3 other XP machines I realized that it wasn't the operating system.
HP Tech Support and all the forums I found kept telling me to upggrade the drivers and download this and that. None worked. I found a note from one other person facing similar frustrations that indicated that his USB cable was going bad and he decided to replace it - only to find that the printer refused to work with the new ones he got. His last entry was that he was going to get a serial cable from HP. I think this is your best bet.
I tried another usb cable I had (no lable on it) and it has been working perfectly ever since. I have now tried it on about 4 PCs (XP & Vista) and it works on all. I don't know what it is but there is some difference among USB serial cables - which I intend to find out.
Try the cable my friend and let me know how it goes.
    Cheers,
    Daniel

  • Smoking Printers - HP LaserJet P1006 and HP 1022

Users have reported smoke coming out of two printers (HP LaserJet P1006 and HP 1022) when in use and after 3-4 pages have printed. The printer also gets hot and the heat kan be felt by putting the hand over the area where the printed paper comes out. The printed paper also curls up that normally happens when the paper gets hot.
Does anyone have any idea or a solution?

What most folks identify as smoke with LaserJet printers, specifically low end Consumer laser printers is actually steam and not smoke.   As the fusing assembly heats the paper, moisture within is literally "cooked out" and will vent out of the top output sometimes appearing as smoke, but will quickly dissipate.  This is totally normal and should not be cause for concern.   There are ways to help minimize this by storing paper in an airtight container (think Tupperware) to prevent it from absorbing moisture from the air.   Many  folks believe it takes a lot of time for paper to absorb moisture, but in reality, it only takes a few hours.
Although this phenomenon can occur with all laser printers, higher end Commercial LaserJet printers include fans to help dissipate it better.  Low end LaserJet printers do not have internal fans, so it can be more noticeable.  In general, if the printer will print, all is good.  There are thermistors built in to the fusing assembly to measure heat.  Anything out of spec will prompt and error on the unit itself and will not allow the unit to print.
A good reference doc on this can be found at the following URL:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=...
Obviously, if you see real smoke (grey, white or blue) from other areas (right, left side covers) and the unit is displaying an error, this would be cause for concern.

Here is a I have created a document (see attached) that has 3 different install methods. These install methods have been tested several times on several different system and all have worked successfully, both in printing test pages and in printing from Word, in the 32 and 64 bit environments.
Several people have reported that install method 3 has worked successfully for them.
If you have downloaded drivers previous drivers and you want to clean them off your system, you will need to delete everything that has LJ1020 or LJ 1022 associated with it. This means removing everything from the driver store and from all HP folders. You will need to look in your Print Server Properties (at the top of your device manager, make sure you have at least one driver with a green check mark on it and it isn't the LJ1022 so you can see the Print Server Properties) and delete the driver and package from here. As well as delete the LJ1022 folders from your C://Program files and your recycle bin. Then make sure your reboot your computer BEFORE you try and reinstall anything. You may have to do this a couple of time before everything is off your system.

  • Drivers/Help for HP LaserJet 1022 for Windows 7 (64 bit)

I have a LaserJet 1022 which doesn't work with recently upgraded Windows 7 (64 bit). I downloaded  the drivers from the site, but the printer properties in Windows says that it doesn't need drivers, yet it doesn't appear in my list of printers when I go to the print dialog.  When I run the plug & Play basic driver wizard, it stalls at the point where it asks user to connect the device.  Despite the device being connected (and displaying in Printers and Devices) the wizard just hangs at this point, and I have to cancel setup. Please help, I have to have a printer, and the reason why I chose this Laserjet is specifically because it is easy to install.

    Dionee,
I dont think replacing it is in order quite yet See if the document helps provide a resolution and if not post back with any new details and we can move onto the next step from there.

I just purchased an HP p6803w CPU that runs on Windows 7.  When I try to connect my HP LaserJet 1022 it won't work.  Apparently, I need a compatible driver downloaded.  When I tried to download drivers from the HP website, it appears one of two did not install.  Help!  I am an online college student and desperately need my printer to work.

From your previous post, it sounds like at one point you are getting the pop up that says "installing device driver software," correct?
If you are not getting this pop up in the lower right hand corner of you screen then I need you to:
    1. Try a different USB port on your computer. Some computer USB ports are "touchy" and if you try a different one it will work. It all depends on the make of the computer.
    2. Try a different USB cable. You might have a bad USB cable. Also, be sure that the USB cable isn't longer than 3ft long.
    3. Go into your device manager and see what printers have been installed. They should be listed under "printers" or "other devices" You might have to go to view and check show hidden devices to see these on your computer. If there is a yellow triangle or question mark on this device then you have a conflict with your computer. This is something in your computer causing this and not the software download.
    Keep me  posted.

Hi, I am using a HP Laserjet 1022 printer connected to a Windows Network. Although the exact driver is not listed I get around using the closest driver in the list. Under Tiger everything was fine, after upgrading to Leopard I can only print one copy of a document at a time. When I put any number of copies in the box only one copy is printed.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello DayTrader,
When you connect the printer and if the message continues to say "Waiting for Connection", please try the below step..
Go to Device Manager, ( to do so , Right click on Computer icon, Select Manage, from the left pance m click on Device Manager , which would display the Device Manager on right pane.)
There should be Yellow bang entries ( Yellow ! mark ) with printer name on it.
Right Click on each of them and select Update Driver.
Select "Browse my Computer for driver software "
Click on Browse button to point to the CD ( if you are using the CD to run the installation ) else copy the path where the drivers have been extracted if you had downloaded it. Usually it will be in folder with name starting 7z... under TEMP folder .
    Then Click Next button .

  • Printing interrupted (with HP LaserJet 1022)

    Hello,
I've recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. Since doing so, my printer (a HP LaserJet 1022, bought with my Mac from Apple) has been working only intermittently.
If I print a document, from any application, of more than one page, it'll only print the odd pages and will stop some way through printing those odd pages and the lights on the top of the printer will start flashing red. (I have checked the settings and they're set to print all pages, not just the odd ones.) The only way to move on is to switch the printer off and on again.
This means that 1) I can only print one page at a time and 2) that every few pages or so, I have to switch the printer off and back on.
Does anyone know what's going wrong or what I can do to fix the problem? I thought the SL installer updated my printer driver.
Thanks, in advance, for your help.
    Jonathan.

HP has simply abandoned the 1022 printer on Snow Leopard. For a time there was a HP software engineer posting here, gathering information from users, advising us that they were working on the 1022 driver. He even sent a beta driver to several people with specific problems. Then he suddenly disappeared and we haven't seen or heard from him since. My 1022 works fine with the Snow Leopard supplied driver, except for the manual duplex option which no longer exists. Others report that their 1022 only prints every other page or stops after a couple of pages. There is a very long thread here about the 1022 problems. The HP guy's name was Andrew but, as I said, he vanished. 1022 owners were starting to get testy and frustrated so maybe he just got tired of trying to help.
As for me, I will never buy an HP printer again because of this abandonment.

  • Not printing: AEX + Win XP + HP LaserJET 1022

    Hello all
I have received a great deal of information from browsing these forums before, but I'm a first-timer when it comes to questions.
I have two laptops connected to an Airport Express. The first is a Powerbook G4, the second is a Sony Vaio running Win XP Pro. I have a HP LaserJet 1022 connected via USB to the Airport Express. My problem, in short, is that I can't print to the HP 1022 from the Sony Vaio.
It may help if I tell you what does work (which is almost everything). Both computers talk to the AEX fine, and are connected to the internet through it fine. The Powerbook prints to the HP 1022 fine as well (both directly and when it is connected to the AEX). The Sony Vaio prints to the HP 1022 when it is directly connected, but not when it is connected to the AEX.
I have followed the instructions in the AEX handbook: creating a new port, adding a printer, etc. Creating the printer seems fine, but printing to it doesn't.
Is there anything that anyone can suggest pls?
    Many thanks in advance,
    AndrewL

    Try using these detailed instructions:
Printing from a Windows XP PC to a printer attached to an Airport Extreme Base Station or Airport Express using Bonjour

  • LaserJet 1022 on Windows 8 64-bit driver problem

    Hello!
After I've upgraded my computer and installed Windows 8 my printer LaserJet 1022 won't work - the drivers fail to install.
    Operating system: Windows 8 64-bit
Printer: HP LaserJet 1022 connected via USB
I 'm trying to install latest drivers for 64-bit system (driver version 2012.918.1.57980 [18.09.2012]) and getting an error message that the driver cannot be installed because of a policy blocking NT4.0 drivers.
In the device manager the printer is listed in the 'Other devices'.
I have read forum topics on Windows 8 drivers installation but none of the solutions worked for me.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Pavel.

    Hi @debblong ,
I see that you are having issues installing the printer on Windows 8. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
To access the Start in Windows 8 to do the steps provided in the previous post, in desktop mode, press the Windows key and R at the same time, to show the run command line. Then you can type in %temp% to access the files to delete them.
For the printer not being detected, we can try a few things.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet and turned on, and the USB cable is connected directly to one of the back USB ports on the computer if using a Desktop, if you are using a Laptop try another USB port.
The USB cable shouldn't be longer then 6 feet.
Is the cable a 2.0 or 3.0 cable? How to determine whether a USB 3.0 device is operating at SuperSpeed?
Is the USB port on the computer 2.0 or 3.0?
Follow these steps in this document to get to the device manager to check for any printer entries.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Then click on Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
In the list click on Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for USB printing support, (make sure any other printers are turned off or disconnected) right click and uninstall it. If you have any others with exclamation mark or other devices in the list, delete them also.
Let me know what it showed in the device manager.
Then click on Action, across the top of the window and scan for new hardware.
If the printer wasn't listed at all in the Device Manager, try another USB port on the computer and another USB cable.
Restart the computer and the printer also to see if the printer will be detected.
If the printer still isn't recognized, if you have another computer, connect the printer to it to see if it is recognized.
Just to rule out a USB port on the computer, USB cable or hardware issue with the USB port on the printer.
Here is the link to the driver page, if you need it. HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!
