HP Laserjet 1200 Stopped

My HP Laserjet 1200, which has worked faithfully for years, suddenly won't print. All jobs sent to it are "stopped"
Over the past week I have:
Repaired permissions
Re-installed driver
Successfully printed from another (PowerBook) computer (and printed test pages)
Trashed printing preferences
Changed USB ports
Printed successfully to another printer with the same G4 computer
All this has been unsuccessful. Can you suggest another route?
Thanks, in advance!

When you say HP updated your driver, do you mean that you updated the driver from their website? Have you tried deleting the printer and adding it back? That might give you the option to use a driver that came with the OS on your PowerBook instead of the "updated" driver. You might be able to retrieve the "working" driver from your MacBook. Or you could try downloading the Gutenprint 5.2.3 driver package from Sourceforge.net. I am assuming that you are connecting to the Mac's USB port directly. If not that needs addressing.

  • My HP Laserjet 1200 stopped working I have downloaded and installed the pcl5 x64 5.3.1 driver.

I have run the troubleshooting several times and there are no issues found, yet every time I try to print
I get Error in the print que.  Anyone know of a way to actually see the error message?
This was the default printer for this laptop and it has worked fine for years then today it just stopped.

  • Laserjet 1200 stopped printing on Mac Book Pro

I've had my MBP since May timeframe and my JetDirect shared LJ 1200 has always worked and just stopped recently. I loaded the upgrade to 10.4.8 around the same time. I get no errors on sending a document to the printer, it doesn't show in the queue but does show in completed documents even though it didn't print.
I've deleted and reinstalled the printer in OSX to no avail. Other Windows machines sharing the printer can print fine. I also use a networked Officejet 7310 (recently installed) with no problems printing from the MBP.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello Kevin,
As you have just done the 10.4.8 update, run the Repair Permissions located in Disk Utility. This may be all that is needed.
If it doesn't, and since the job leaves the Mac, it could be queue related rather than being due to the protocol used. I've seen this symptom before when the wrong queue name is used for LPD printing. For the JetDirect cards, the queue name should be raw.
You can check the queue name that has been used by viewing the CUPS printers page. Open your browser and type "http://localhost:631/printers". You will see a list of the printers installed and for the LJ1200, look at the line Device URI. It should show something like "lpd://192.168.44.146/raw".
If it is incorrect the best thing would be to delete the printer from the Printer Setup Utility and add it again with the correct information.
If the queue name is correct, then run the Reset Printing System function located in the Printer Setup Utility menu. This will delete the printer and force you to add it again.

  • Laserjet 1200 will not stop running.

I have a LaserJet 1200 as a back up printer.  It gets used once or twice a month and therefore is in great condition.
This morning when I turned it on it started running and just won't stop!
    Any ideas why?

The "Incoming Call" message is shown whenever we see a ring signal on the line, regardless of the fax receive mode.
If this message is showing up when no fax is being sent, then it means that there is noise on the phone line.  You can contact your phone company to discuss options in reducing the noise on your phone line.
If this message is showing up with no phone line plugged in, then the modem inside the printer is detecting noise.  It is possible that the internal fax parameters have become corrupt.  If that is the case, then you can perform a "Restore Defaults"  in order to reset them.  Note: doing this will erase all of your settings.  You can print out a configuration report before doing this so you can reset them.  A restore can be done at the control panel by pressing [Setup] on the main screen (the button with the wrench on it), then select "Service" and then "Restore Defaults."
This is based on my own experience with the product.

  • Cannot add printer- get error message.  LaserJet 1200

I recently bought a dual powered MacBook. It was working perfectly, and finding my printer both attached by USB, and wirelessly. It shows up as Bonjour LaserJet 1200. Suddenly, it stopped working, and cannot be added to the printer list. I get an error message,"client error message too long", or some other nonsense. I have several other computers, running OS X, and none of them have any problem sharing the printer, which is connected to an Airport Extreme remote base station. I have tried everything, and come up with no success. So eventhough the printer is recognized, with its address, and is sharable, it suddenly and without cause, cannot be added to the printer list, and thus I cannot print. Any suggestions. Peter

  • HP Laserjet 1200 and HP PSC 1200 - Laserjet not printing

    Hello,
my laserjet 1200 is not printing, stating: "Generic class - waiting for the device".
The reason seems to be the installer of the HP PSC 1200, which put some files on my harddisk the laserjet doesn't like.
There is a process called "HP Communication..." viewable in the process viewer. Whenever I manually quit this process, the LaserJet prints.
But as soon as I restart the computer, the process (and the problem) reoccures. Is there a way I can "kill" this process permanently?
    mac mini G4 1.5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I have 3 users who's HP LaserJet 1200's have stopped working. This was after we got an HP Color LaserJet 2820.
I killed the HP Communications process like mentioned above and then voila the LaserJet 1200 started to print again.
It looks like you want to edit this file
    /Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist
    and remove this line
    <string>/Library/Printers/hp/HP Communications.app/HP Communications</string>
    Thanks for the help

  • Items in Print Queue disappear (HP LaserJet 1200)

&It happens quite regularly that when I send several documents to my HP LaserJet 1200, some of them disappear from the queue even before the data can be sent to the printer. An example of what happened only minutes ago: I sent 4 documents to the printer, the queue send "sending data" for doc #1, lamp flashed on the printer, then the lamp stopped flashing, the doc was NOT printed and the other 3 docs as well as that one were removed from the queue list.
I contacted who were not of any help. They said to uninstall all the drivers and let Tiger reinstall them.
Fine. But how do I uninstall? They have not responded, there is no info on their site (or even in Mac OS Help about uninstalling printer drivers), nor does the installer downloaded from HP have an uninstall option.
I can remove all sorts of files, but I don't want to remove a file which is necessary for the system to run nor do I wish to leave a file which should be removed.
So, two questions: has anyone experienced this problem and, if so, is there as solution; and how to I uninstall/reinstall the printer drivers?

An update: I was on the phone with HP. They were not helpful at all. The only suggestion they could come up with is that the documents in question contained PostScript level 3 and the printer can only deal with level 2 at highest. Of course, this doesn't really account for the fact that other documents disappear from the queue, that the same document prints out directly to an Epson 200 color inkjet printer. I have the feeling that maybe HP is just crap and that's the end of it. Or...????

  • HP LaserJet 1200: Prints; creates EXTRA sheet with Offending Command: D

After every printing job is completed *an extra page is printed* with the following:
    ERROR: undefined
    OFFENDING COMMAND: D
    STACK:
How can I stop this *unnecessary waste of paper* every time I print something?
    Please help!

What does work is the following:
Set your printer to NOT use Appletalk (through your browser).
Delete your printer and install it again. If you don't see it in the list select IP printer and use the printer's IP address
Make sure you use a HP driver and not the Generic driver. I used a Gutenprint driver with success on a LaserJet 1200 with a JetDirect network adapter.

  • HP Laserjet 1200 and Driver Updates

On the "Download Drivers and Software" support page for the HP Laserjet 1200 printer, there is an option, "Automatically check to see if your driver needs updating".
A machine that I am supporting is having a MS Word collating issue (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't) and I don't know if its a driver issue or not.  The machine is XP SP3.
If I click on this link, obviously it will check the drivers, but:
    1) Will it give me the option to automatically update the drivers if it finds they are outdated, and
    2) How do I roll back to the old driver if the update introduces problems?
Since this potential driver update isn't going through the normal MS XP driver update routine in Device Manager, I'm leery that I won't be able to recover if something goes wrong.

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/
    I hope this helps.

  • Getting unknown error when printing with latest version(using HP Laserjet 1200). I can't print at all using this version. Able to print previously.

I ceased to be able to print when the latest version of FireFox was
downloaded. I can print from the same websites using I. E.
My printer is a HP Laserjet 1200 series. I only get the error(an unknown error occurred while printing) when trying to print through FireFox. I can print email fine and any other instance as long as I'm not going through FireFox.

    Hello Josh,
We are using a couple of EFI (Fiery) controllers with our Canon copiers and I have been told by Canon support that we need to be using the MacTel (Universal Binary) versions of drivers for Leopard. Luckily for us we have mostly new models of RIPs and the UB drivers exist for these models, but I know that they are not available for all models, which I believe includes your X3e.
To determine if you have a driver or RIP issue, you could save the file as either PS or PDF and then use the EFI utilities, such as Command Workstation, to import the file to the RIP (select Process and Hold) and then see if you can print your multiple copies that way. If that works then you know that the RIP is probably okay.
The next test would be to create a generic PS queue to the X3e and print using this queue. If this works then you can narrow your issue down to the driver.

  • New MacBook Pro 10.7.2 trying to connect to HP laserjet 1200 w wireless. Tried generic driver and hpdriver and gutenprint drivers. "Unable to connect due to error". Deleted prefs, restarted etc. Any ideas ?

Just purchased a MacBook Pro OS 10.7.2. Cannot get it to print with HP LaserJet 1200.
Connection is wireless, able to ping printer. (also tried  MacBook using ethernet).
This HP 1200 prints perfectly with another mac running Snow Leopard.
Tried HP 1200 driver, which, according to HP,  is not working with 10.7.2; They suggested Gutenprint
    tried generic printer from Mac, (message was printer is busy);
tried CUPS Gutenprint 5.0.2,(message says "unable to connect due to an error"
removed preferences and re-added printer, rebooted etc.
Any thoughts? I thought it was the driver, maybe there are other drivers out there or maybe it's something else???? Thanks

    Thanks for the replys.
After spending an hour plus, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and still not able to print, my husband, sits down, plugs in an ethernet cable, reinstalls the printer with the ip, and it prints. !!! I'd already done that , but that was before I deleted the preferences and installed the Gutenprint driver. I think it was the new Gutenprint driver that did it.

  • HP LaserJet P1505n stops printing and blocks network interface

I have been using my P1505n for over two years without any problem. But it suddenly stopped printing. The scenario is as follows:
    1. The P1505n is connected to a wired home network with reserved IP address in the DHCP server.
    2. The P1505n is used from Ubuntu 10.4, 11.4 , Windows XP and Windows 7 without any previous problems.
    3. The last partial successful print job stopped in the middle of a page leaving the rest blank: no paper jam.
    4. I have reset the printer several times: turn off + press Cancel & Go + turn on while holding the two buttons down.
    5. The first reset was successful: the toner level going from 40 to 100%. The next ones may have been successfull too.
    6. After each reset and also after each power-on, I can ping and access the embedded web server.
    7. Whenever I send a print job, the print queue on the computer (all OS behave identically) says "printing" and stops. I can cancel/remove the jobs from Ubuntu.
    8. After the printer receives the print job, it silently blocks the network interface (no ping nor web) and doesn't print anything. No movementsm no LED blinking either: just nothing happens.
What is the reason for this problem? And how do I solve it?

    Hi firedude007,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that your HP Laserjet P1102w stops printing files from your Mac but not on Windows, and I am happy to help!
For further assistance, I will need to know the following information:
The version number of the Mac Operating System. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
If the printer is connected, Wireless, or USB.
If the printer is able to make copies by itself.
In the meantime, I would try the following:
Reset the printing system. Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system.
Verify and repair disk permissions. Disk Utility 12.x: Repair disk permissions.
Hope to hear from you, and thank you for posting!

  • Drivers for hp laserjet 1200 for windows 7 64 bit

Nothing seems to work to get printer working.

    Hey @Jskol ,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the HP Forums today! Hope you enjoy the experience.
I understand you are having some issue making your HP Laserjet 1200 on windows 7 64 bit work.
Can you please elaborate on what it is that you are experiencing so that I am able to assist you properly? Is it new and not connecting right? Has it lost communication and is now not working? How is it connected to the computer?
Have a great day and a wonderful new year. Get back to me.

  • HP LaserJet 1200 printing problems

Ever since I upgraded to Tiger, my formerly trusty HP LaserJet 1200 takes up to 10-20 minutes to print a single PDF page (even a simple one), and 2) can't keep track of documents in the queue (if I send a second document while the first is printing, the first one cuts out without finishing).
I understand HP bundled the latest driver into Tiger, so no updated driver is available from HP. Although I installed the GimpPrint drivers, there appears to be no Gimp driver for the LaserJet 1200. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Update: I realised that my printer was attached to a USB hub. It's been that way since I bought it and has always used like that. Anyway, on the off-chance (and bearing in mind that I had actually shut down my computer for the first time in a year or so last week), I instead connected the printer directly to one of the USB ports of my iMac. It immediately appeared in the Print Utility list!
Sounds peculiar, but it seems that the problems was linked to a combination of a Tiger upgrade, the use of a USB hub, and the full shut down of the computer.
    Hope this helps someone.
