HP LaserJet M175nw - is "Auto-Off" *actually* compatible with wifi?

So my new printer was advertised as promised that I could "Achieve up to 50% energy savings, using an HP LaserJet with HP Auto-Off Technology which automatically senses your printing activity, turning your printer off when you don’t need it."
This sounds ideal - I print maybe once every 2-3 days at most. The printer could be in sleep mode for most of the time and surely save me loads of energy. Sadly, after a few days my printer stops accepting print jobs. It's still "on" (green power light) and the control panel on the unit can be accessed, however once going into this sleep mode wifi access is lost and nothing I can do will re-instate the wireless connection (i.e. it should show a steady blue light on the front and the IP address in the LCD screen). All I can do is turn the printer off and back on again then everything works as before.
I have:
Set a static IP address on the printer (and reserved this allocation via the router)
Updated to the latest firmware
Confirmed that wireless signal strength is healthy (not too weak, not too near the router)
Now upon reading a few troubleshooting tips (including here on the HP support site stickies) I read the suggestion of "Check that the printer’s “Auto-off” feature is disabled. If this feature is enabled, the printer will power OFF after some period of non-use."
This suggestion seems to indicate that infrequent wireless access and power-saving are mutually exclusive - is this true? Even if the print does indeed "power OFF after some period of non-use", surely waking it from this state (as distinct from completely rebooting the printer) should be sufficient to wake the printer?!
Can anyone confirm just how "supported"/compatible the power-saving and wifi features are on this model? What I'm asking it to do doesn't seem unreasonable - I'd expected some sort of "wake on LAN"-style behaviour...

Hi,
Please follow these given steps
press the tool icon on the display > System setup>Energy settings>Wake/Auto On Events>LAN Job> ON
or
press the tool icon on the display > System setup>Energy settings>Auto Power Down>Wake Event>LAN Job(put a check or select this)
Hope this helps

  • What usb auto switch is compatible with OSX and Windows for sharing the same printer

I just bought a new iMac for myself to replace my old Dell PC.  My husband still has his PC with Windows Vista and our work stations are set up to share the same MFC with a Belkin auto switch.   Unfortunately that software is not compatible with my OSX and I am having trouble searching for another auto switch that is compatible with both computer operating systems.  Can anyone recommend one to me?

Hmmm, we bought a brand new V300 from Epson and hooked it up it didn't work. We went through all the steps, downloaded all the drivers, and after several days of frustration, it still did not work so we returned it.
Apple hasn't been able to give us technical advice, Epson couldn't help. The only scanners sold locally are the printer/scanner combos.
I was looking at the Fujitso ScanSnap 1500M earlier tonight... am wondering if I can get by with this scanner since most of my scanning nowadays has to do with business documents. It sure would be nice to organize clutter and the text said something about compatible with the "cloud" as well.
I use my iPad all the time to show galleries & collectors the quality of my paintings... type up proposals, etc. Thanks for letting me know about it's compatibility with my iPad, iPhone and Mac.

  • HT1338 How do I install a hp Laserjet P1102w printer to a Macbook Pro with WiFi

The hp Laserjet printer is plugged into the usb port of an IBM PC running Windows XP.  I would like to leave it thus connected.

From your post I cannot tell if you know the procedure to add a Windows shared printer to the Mac but are having trouble after doing so, or if you don't know the procedure. So I will reply on the premise that you don't know how to add the shared Windows printer.
So for starters, the HP would have to be shared on Windows. This will let the Mac see the shared resource on the local network. You also mention WiFi. So this would require the PC and the Mac to be connected to the same WiFi router.
With the sharing enabled on Windows, on the Mac you open System Preferences > Print & Scan and click the plus button to add. You then select the Windows tab in the Add printer sheet. This presents you with a window that has three columns. The first is the Workgroup, followed by the Computer then the shared printer name. Typically Windows will use Workgroup for the workgroup name. So you should see Workgroup in this first column. When selected, the second column should show the name of your Win XP computer. If you select this computer name, you will then be prompted to authenticate to Windows to continue. At this point, enter your Windows user name and password. With this information correctly entered, the third column will show the shared printer. Select this and then select the supporting driver for this printer in the Use menu. Click Add to complete the queue creation.
Now with regards to the supporting driver, there are many printer drivers for OS X that cannot be used when a printer is shared by Windows. So if the driver you select on the Mac fails to print then you may have to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint, PrintFab or HPIJS in the case of HP printers. But if this particular HP LaserJet supports the PCL or Postscript printer language, then you can select the Generic PCL or Generic PS that is included with OS X. While these driver do not give you any features for printer, they do at least let you print.
One last point. After adding the printer, the first time you try to print from the Mac via the Windows shared printer, you will be prompted to authenticate again. So enter the Windows user name and password again, and save this to the Mac Keychain so that you don't have to worry about authenticating the next time you print.

  • Is Firefox compatible with Panda Free Antivirus 2015?

I would like to get a better FREE antivirus program. After researching reviews, I am interested in Panda Free Antivirus 2015, however, they list the requirement of using Internet Explorer as the browser, & I do NOT want to lose my beloved Firefox. Is Firefox actually compatible with Panda or am I stuck with another antivirus program? Thanks for your anticipated help.

    Hello,
Panda Antivirus should be compatible; on its download page it asks me which browser I am using and doesn't inform me of any limitations.
I would be skeptical of a download page for an antivirus program if it said that it requires you to use only Internet Explorer to function. Be sure you are accessing the correct web page and not downloading from a third party website (where you might be downloading something other than a security suite, without your knowledge). The official link for Panda Security is

  • Can anyone recommend a printer which will actually work with mac 10.4.11 ?

Hi all! I have had problems getting a printer which will actually work with my macbook 10.4.11. I've tried HP deskjet f4180 (supposed to be compatible) and various lexmarks (no compatible software). Apple and hp, and my local curry's have not been able to assure me which printer will DEFINATELY work. I just wanted to hear from other Mac users with 10.4.11, if they had actually been able to find a printer which works properly. Would be greatful for any recommendations of printer's which are actually compatible with the updated tiger 10.4.11
    Many thanks.
    Crazynow!!

I read your previous posts, but had just upgraded to 10.4.11 & hadn't check my printers. All 3 of these work: Apple laserwriter 360, Brother HL 1440, and Brother MFC 7820N. I print to all of these wirelessly via airport.

  • Print jobs stuck in queue after printer goes auto off

Hi all!We have an HP LaserJet M125NW printer in the office, which is connected directly to the network (wired). The problem is, once the printer goes to "auto off" mode, the print jobs get stuck in the queue, and we need to restart the printer every time. After the restart, it works fine, until it goes auto off again. The device has a fix ip, and it can be seen on the network, everything sems okay, but it still doesn't print. I tried different computers, different operating systems, nothing works. Could anyone help me with this annoying situation?

, Welcome to the forums  I read about the printing issue you're having with your LaserJet M125NW, that will not seem to wake up when you send the print job to be printed out. Below is what I would first suggest trying. Select Setup, System Setup, Energy Settings, Wake/Auto On Events, and in that menu, select "LAN Job" to see if this will help wake the printer up when you send it a print command. Also ensure you have the power to the unit plugged in directly to a wall outlet. Avoid power bars and surge protectors, which ensures the printer is receiving the full power it needs.  Let me know what happens, good luck

  • HP1102w Pro: Wireless/Auto-sleep, auto-off

    Hello.
I just bought the HP1102w Pro and I'm using it on MacOS X.9 (Mavericks). I install it using the USB cable and then configured to wireless and now is working wirelessly. Everything great. But I have a couple of doubts:
    1. Is there any way to access the printer configuration through wireless? When I went to the printer options in System Preferences/Printers it worked great by opening a different app where I could manage my preferences and print test pages, etc... But when I try the same with the printer in wireless mode, the same app opens but nothing happens, it's a bug or somehting. Is this normal? Since it is wireless, can I access the printer configuration using my browser?
    2. I set the sleep mode to "after 1 minute" and disabled the auto-off while USB connected. Does that configuration stays now that I've changed to wireless mode?
    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Telmo Mendes Leal
P.s.: The Apple Software Update didn't download anything to make the installation possible (like it says on the printer manual). I had to search the Apple support (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907) and download it manually.

    Hello @telmomendesleal,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving some issues with your Laserjet P1102W. I will do my best to assist you! For question one, are you referring to changing print settings? Please look at this HP document on Changing Print Settings in Mac OS X. Let me know if this is what you're referring to and you don't have certain options after switching to wireless.
I would make sure your Apple updates are completed on your computer by following this document here. Try repairing the disk permissions on your computer following this Apple document here.
Also, try resetting the printing system on your computer by following this Apple document here. When re-adding the printer, make sure it's not on the AirPrint driver, but the Laserjet P1102W driver.
For the second question, the sleep mode should be still configured even though you switched to wireless. Just make sure the auto-off is still disabled by following this HP document on Auto-Off Delay Time is Too Short. I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

  • I was using OS Snow Leopard and on 8/1/13 I downloaded Mountain Lion and found out it was not compatible with my HP printer (HP photosmart C5580) so I called Apple and asked how to get Mountain Lion off and Snow Leopard back on.  The Tech told me to

I was using OS Snow Leopard and on 8/1/13 I downloaded Mountain Lion.  Then I found out it was not compatible with my HP Printer (HP Photosmart C5580 all-in-one) so I called Apple support and the tech told me to erase the hard drive instead of going in the time machine.  Well I did that and then it took about three hours three days a week for about three weeks on the phone with an apple tech to get all my stuff back on my computer.  I have had trouble with my printer (won't do the scan anymore and wasn't printing on my DVDs.  Also the computer keeps freezing up when it is in the sleep mode, etc.
When I tried to list my problem on this forum it lists your OS at the bottom and mine had Mountain Lion listed as what I was using so apparently it didn't erase it.  Want to know how to get Mountain Lion off and put my Snow Leopard on so things start working right.

Go to the  menu/About This Mac - what OS version shows there?
Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
Revert to a Previous OS X
    Revert to Snow Leopard
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

  • Is my LaserJet 2100tn compatible with Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks?

I would like to upgrade my Mac to OS 10.9 Mavericks, but I have an old HP LaserJet 2100tn.  Will that printer be compatible with the new OS?  I am currently printing to the 2100tn from OS 10.7.5 - Lion.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hello
Yes, if your HP LaserJet 2100tn was working with OS X 10.7 or 10.8, it will continue to work fine with new OS X Mavericks after an OS upgrade
If you have a new Mac or clean OS X Mavericks system, HP also provides the LaserJet 2100tn driver via Apple Software Update.  Just make sure the printer is turned on and connected to the Mac when you create (add printer) the printer queue

  • Where can I find a print driver compatible with OS 10.7 for USB HP LaserJet P1006?

Where can I find and download a print driver compatible with OS 10.7.5 on iMac for USB HP LaserJet P1006?
Ran software update. Apple notes that a driver is unavailable, consult HP (who seems to offer only info but no software download available).
Any troubleshooting info or hints are appreciated.

    Hi LPfromMA,
I'm sorry to hear you've run into difficulties finding the driver for your HP Laserjet P1006 for your Mac OS X 10.7.5.
I have included a document with the steps to download and install the driver for your printer and your Mac. It has a section for a USB connection.  I have also checked HP.com and there is driver for Mac OS X 10.7.

  • I keep getting auto prompts to upgrade to 14.5 however it then says it is not compatible with my Kapersky anti-virus. Do I upgrade?

FF14.5 says it's not compatible with the Kaersky virtual keyboard and the URL adviser. I think the URL adviser is part of the anti virus. I have chose to stay with 12.0 because of these notices?
    thanks.

There is no Firefox 14.5, I'm assuming you mean Firefox 14.0.1?
As to your question, you should always update your Firefox, as it fixes security holes that can leave you and your data at risk. As to the Kapersky, you should be able to update firefox, then update Kapersky and your Kapersky add-ons will work. I should mention though that the Kapersky add-ons are not part of your actual anti-virus protection, and do little to nothing to protect you. Even if they are disabled your anti-virus application still runs just fine and you are still protected from threats. You should update to Firefox 14.0.1 (and subsequent releases) as soon as possible.

How to set wireless printer at ad Hoc mode in CP1025nw with auto-off is off?? ie  never auto-off!!
Thank you very much for your help if any!!
    This question was solved.

Quite a few questions there, Sends, but I will do what I can to answer them.
I would first recommend buying a router, even if it is one that you won't connect to the internet and network this with your other PCs and the printer. This will give you the best functionality and results for what you are attempting to do.
Additionally, the Auto Off feature of the printer can be disabled, and is not affected by the connection type. You can usually go through the Setup Menu and select Tools to change the options there on the energy saving features.
Lastly, the auto off feature on your computer is a Windows question, but an easy one to answer. If you are on a laptop you can right-click on the battery in the service tray (bottom right hand corner) and change the energy conservation settings.
You might be better off installing the printer through the USB cord and alternating that based on when you are using it, but that would be optimal only if you are printing only a few documents on an irregular basis. A networked connection is the easiest to manage over several computers, honesty, but you do have some requirements for that connection and limitations as well.
I hope this information is useful!

  • Is my HP LaserJet 1300 postscript compatible with Mac 10.9 Mavericks?

I am using a LaserJet 1300 with Windows XP.  Because Microsoft does not support XP anymore, I must buy a new computer.  I am considering changing to the iMac, but I love my 1300 postscript printer.  The Mac sales rep said to find out if HP 1300 has drivers that are compatible with 10.9 Mavericks.
I've searched the Internet and even called customer support.  The customer rep was in India or somewhere.  I could not understand what he was saying.  Would appreciate any help with this.
    Thanks.
