HP Laserjet Printer Question / OS 10.8

Has anyone found a way to use an HP Laserjet 4050TN printer with OS 10.8? Connected by Ethernet to Airport Express. Using latest HP printer driver v.12.2 for OSX, no utility support. It was working fine in OS 10.5.8.

Thanks for your sugggestions John. That is the site where I got the driver after talking with Applecare, but resetting the printing system with the option - key, along with some settings experimentation, seems to have done the trick! Prior to posting here I spoke at length with 2 different people at Applecare as well as HP, but they couldn't resolve it.
If anyone else has this great old workhouse of a printer (1999, no USB but has Ethernet) here's what worked for me:
Download the latest HP driver from the apple website John mentions. Reset the printing system with the option - key. The LaserJet 4050 doesn't appear in the Nearby Printers list. However I added it through its IP address (you can get this by printing out a Configuration Page from the printer's internal menu). Go to Preferences, select Print/Scan, and click on the IPP pane. Enter the printer's IP, set Protocol to HP Jetdirect-Socket and Use to HP LaserJet 4050 Series. The printer will set up. however in the Print Window dropdown (below Copies & Pages) "Unsupported PDE" appears and I get a low toner message (not true).

Thank you for posting your question regarding the LaserJet 1020 Plus and what system requirement are needed to install. I was able to find some information to answer this for you. It would appear that on XP the printer needs at least 128 MB of RAM and 150 MB of free disk space.

HP LaserJet printer won't work following update

I have just installed the latest Apple update for HP Laserjet printers (9 Sept 2008), and now my HP 2605dn color LaserJet printer won't work. Most applications just quit when I try to print; MS Word just hangs at the dialog box when I press Enter.
I can access the printer utility OK via the Print Preferences.
Has anybody any thoughts why this should be so, and how do I proceed to get my printer working again?

OK, I have just answered (part of) my own question.
Re-installing the HP Laserjet package has duplicated drivers for most of the HP laserjet printers in my list of drivers. If I select the second entry of the two identical appearances of the drivers for my printers, they start working again; if I select the first appearance they don't work. So now my printers are working again.
This still doesn't explain why Software Update prompted me to re-install an already installed package. It also gives me the issue of removing all the duplicate entries from my list of drivers, unless I am prepared to live with the clutter and waste of HD space. Any thoughts about how to do this without bombing my printers again?

Help! Problems printing to HP Laserjet printer

OK we've had an imac for several months and haven't had any problems. Recently, we can no longer print multiple jobs from our HP Laserjet printer. I believe the printer and the imac still recognize each other, but the print job seems to get "hung up" and never prints. It shows in the print que, but the status never changes. The only thing that seems to work is turning the printer on and off, but then it only prints 1 print job and then all other print jobs get "hung up" again.

You have a much newer iMac than those covered in this forum, which is for iMacs made prior to Jan 2006. You'll feel more at home posting your question in the forum for current iMacs here:

If someone here fails to notice you have the newer model, it's possible they could give you advise for the older ones that doesn't apply to yours. Not your fault--it's due to an unfortunate choice of forum labels.

Could a Color LaserJet Printer use / print to Photo Paper?

Hello HP Support, Well as you notice I have quite a few questions, since store representative say yes to everything and barely even know the answer. My Question here is I have alot i mean alot close to 1,000 sheets of HP Photo paper from a few year and decade back wasa good sale and just came across them recently hidden back in my HP Demo Day i presented. ** Anyways would like to know if i can use this HP Photo paper in my m276nw? Also do HP Color LaserJet printer normally handle and work with HP Media products so, if i buy another printer in which I'm searching around for another AIO would hope to do everything. I have Premium, Matte, Glossy & Glossy Brochure Photo paper - HP Makes many types of Photo paper could i use these? Since it does not state Laser or Inkjet on the box. Print a PO from a HP laserJet printer.

Could you please help me in finding out the solution for below issue.
" We have a requirement to print a PO from a HP laserJet printer. This has to come in Landscape. For that we have copied a device type HPLJ4 and a formato type as Z_LEGAL. We are un sure how to maintain the device type. Like the entried added for Printer Initialization, Reset after Exit, End of page, End of line etc. Who is supposed to maintain the same. Is it ABAP or who?. Is there any note to know how to maintain the format type and can we raise a ticket with SAP to provide the same.

Cleaning the guts of an HP B & W or Color LaserJet Printer

Hi:
I currently have an HP4M LaserJet printer...it appears to have "died" after 20 years.
I have had to do meticulous internal cleaning of it in the past, when I toner cartridge would go bad, dumping toner into the printer. With brushes, lint free cloths, etc, you could clean the inside of the printer, after removing a few items; e.g., the paper feed roller mechanisms, the fuse roller, etc. The 4M's HP User's Manual showed how to do this. If you take time to do it properly, ...and this usually requires several hours to do...you will end up with crisp clean printouts...no excess toner-speckling on the printouts.
I am considering replacing the 4M with one of the following HP Laser Printers.
HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer (B & W)
HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer (B & W)
HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401n Printer (B & W)
HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dne Printer (B & W)
HP laserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251nw (Color)
Am I correct that B & W is not striclty Black or White but also includes Gray-Scale like the 4M did ?
The P1102 appears to have the same (or similar) toner cartridge mechanism that the 4M did.
When you rermove it, you can see the gear mechanisms, etc....not yet sure about the fuse roller.
The Pro 400 printers look very much like the 4M externally, but I do not yet know about the internals.
The M251nw is a different animal.
It has a metal slide-out tray that holds 4 toner cartridges which appear to be "rectanglular" in shape.
Can this tray be removed by the user (for cleaning) if a cartridge dumps toner into the printer ?
Is the fuse roller accessible to the user for removal and cleaning ?
I have looked through the M251's User Manual, and this level of cleaning is not covered.
It only covers "cleaning" like an inkjet does for cleaning the printheads.
Somehow, I would think that the user should have access to the guts of the printer,
since a Tech Support person would also have to disassemble the printer for cleaning.
if this information exist, where do I find it ?

Colors are great because they provide you with color. But the cost of ownership is a lot higher because now you have 4 color toner cartridges. With the cost of toner cartridges hovering around US$130 each, you are looking at a cost of at least $520 in toner replacement costs. Granted you won't be using all the toner across the whole page but if you print photos or images, it will deplete quickly. Plus with 4 toner cartridges inside, the cartridges are fairly small.
Cost per prints for black and white hovers around 1 to 4 cents per copy. Color prints cost around 8 to 17 cents per copy. But I read somewhere from someone worker for a company selling the toner it can cost up to 30 to 75 cents per copy for a full page of color.
So in a nutshell, it's very expensive to have color.

LaserJet printer no longer works after installing Snow Leopard

Since installing Snow Leopard, my LaserJet printer no longer works. Spent 5 hours on the phone to Apple Support without any satisfaction. Any suggestions? I'm desperate.......

A HP4350TN Laserjet Printer and when i tried to get the software, I can't download it from your

I tried 4 times to download this software for the HP 4350 TN laserjet printer and it says Incomplete download and comes within 2 or 3 seconds of the complete download and it will not finish it. It does it for EVERY Program on this page under this printer. When you try to finish the download, it will tell you that it can't download this program. WHY, I need the printer drivers for my new printer!!

Printing trademark symbol in HP laserjet printer

Hi,
I need to print trademark symbol (TM) from HP laserjet 4250 printer.
Since the SAP driver/device type does not have the character set containing tm symbol,
I am getting a # sign in the output.
I need to configure a custom character set with the symbol and for which I need the hex code of the trademark symbol corresponding to the specific HP laserjet printer.
I contacted HP global support but they could not tell me the hex code for a tm symbol in their printers.
Can anyone of you please let me know the code value or guide me where can I get it?

Hp laserjet printer p11o2w attention light in on continously

the attention light on my laserjet printer p1102w is on continouly (there is nopaper blockage) and the printer will not print. The printer is 2 years old.

I see by your post that the attention light is continuously on and you unable to print anything. I can help you.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
You can find the blinking light pattern in this document and the solutions appropriate to the pattern you are experiencing. Blinking Lights on the HP LaserJet Pro P1102, P1102w, P1106, and P1108 Printers.
Reseat the toner and remove the paper from the paper tray and reseat the paper again.
Remove the USB cable temporarily and try and print a hardware self test on the printer. If using a USB connection.
Were you able to print the test page, or is the attention light still on?
When you turn the printer on or open the top cover, does the printer make a noise?
Are you using Genuine HP Toner?
What are the toner levels?
How is the printer connected? (USB/Wireless)

HP laserjet printer P1102W not allowing to connect to mac OS 10.8

i recently purchased an HP laserjet printer P1102W and am having issues connecting to my mountain lion macbook pro. any suggestions?

I had a very difficult time getting the P1102W working wirelessly on a macbook pro with Mountain Lion, however I finally got it to work after countless hours of troubleshooting. I was able to successfully connect the printer to my wireless network WITHOUT having to perform an Ad Hoc wireless first as HP suggests in their support forums.
Here are the steps as accurately as I can remember:
1) Turn the printer off
2) Press and hold both the wireless and the cancel button, and then turn the product on
3) Hold the buttons until all the lights blink in unison, and then release the buttons.
4) Connect printer using USB cable & power on.
5) Check for apple software update from the App store. It will find and install an update for HP printers

7) Open System Presferences in Mounatin Lion, select Print & Scan.
8) Make sure the P1102W printer is selected and Open Print Queue
9) Click Settings, then click Utility, then Open Printer Utility
10) Select Configuration page. This will bring up Safari and displays the printer's settings and this is where you can change the configuration.
From this point, whenever I made changes to the netowrking configuration using Safari and clicked Apply, the changes would not "stick", no matter how many times I tried. So, I thought it may be an incompatability with Safari, and sure enough it was. I downloaded Google's Chrome browser, pasted http://localhost:5050/SSI/Auth/ip_direct_print.htm into the address bar and hit return on the keyboard. The changes I made using Chrome applied successfully and I connected to my home's wireless.
Specifically:
11) Paste http://localhost:5050/SSI/Auth/ip_direct_print.htm into Chrome and hit return on the keyboard. It will load the printer Config page.
12) You may already be under Wireless Direct Setup, if not, select Networking, then Wireless Direct Setup.
13) Select your network name, use the << button to move it over to the other window.
14) For Authentication, selecte watever your network uses (propably WPA2) and enter password. Apply.
You will see the Blue light on the top of the printer turn on, flash and then go solid.
15) Disconnect the USB cable
You can now print wirelessly from your Mac, ipad or iphone running IOS5 or 6.
I hope that helps compensate for HP's lack of support using Mountain Lion.
