HP LJ 4100 - Feeding Problems

I have a LaserJet 4100 in my office and i'm having problems with it pulling paper from the correct tray.  I continuously change the settings from the printing properties to the tray I wish to print from.  Ex. Tray 2 has a bond type paper, when I select the tray/type from properties, it automatically prints to regular paper from tray 4.  I have regular paper in tray 3 as well and when specifying to do a standard print from tray 3, it pulls from 4.  I was getting a manual feed error in the envelope feeder, but specified in word/excel properties the envelope type and that fixed it.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Anyone?

  • Officejet K550 Pro: Paper Feed Problems

About a year or two ago, we purchased a K550 unit for our office, and 3 subsequent units for employees' personal use.  At first, everything went great - it was the best inkjet printer I or my staff had ever owned!  After a month of great service, my staff and I recommended this product to customers demanding a printer with low cost of ownership and fast, high-quality printing.  However, after about 3 months of service, all of our units began developing paper feed problems in about the order they were purchased, depending on their usage (the older units first, unless they were used more than other units).
It started with an occasional failure to pickup a new sheet during a print job, slowly progressed to having to hand-feed the printer to get it started on a job and supervising the printer throughout the job to clear the occasional feeding problems during the job, and erupted into a continuous hand-feeding of every sheet of every job through all of these printers, all the time.  We immediately replaced, at our cost, all of the 15 customer units, 3 employee units and 1 internal unit that were purchased by us or on our recommendation with other HP devices, even after several customers willingly contacted HP and were sent warranty replacement new and refurbished units that also failed.  The only three K550 printers that remain in service with us or our customers (one in our office and two others with customers who requested to keep the units we replaced) fail to pick up any paper out of the main tray an astonishing 93%, 98% and 100% of the time, respectively.  This is not an exaggeration, these are documented numbers rounded down when applicable).
I've perused many online sites, forums and websites on this topic - both professional and non - and found this to be a common problem with what seems to be a very great number of these units.  Some folks also mention a problem with the K/Y (black/yellow) printhead, but neither I nor any of our customers have experienced this problem.  In solving this feeding problem, we've tried different brands, weights and chemical makeups of paper (HP paper works well, but Staples brand paper of standard weight and 97 bright works best), tried different loading strategies for each paper type (such as fanning the paper before loading and before printing, light, moderate and heavy loads in the standard tray), tried installing a duplexing device (HP OEM of course), tried installing the larger paper tray (also HP OEM) and flashing different firmware supplied by HP - all to no avail.  None of the units have any aftermarket parts, kits, ink cartridges or printheads - everything installed and used in these printers is OEM, except for occasional special papers or label sheets.  So where does this leave us?  More importantly - where does this leave my customers who I prematurely recommended this product to?
We're looking for a solution from HP.  We've tried customer service and have opened several issues without resolution.  I'm tired of my employees and myself dealing with this issue only to be told how to load paper and to flash the same firmware on the same device for the third, fourth and fifth times.  We have 16 defective units in storage and 3 units in partial service for a total of 19 units.  Accounting for these 19 units:  we lightly use 1; we sold and supported 15 of these within our customer base and 3 to our employees, all of which we replaced with other HP products (again, at our cost), and 2 customers decided to keep 1 defective unit each.  As a result, both myself and my company are out big money because of this issue.  We replaced all of our supported K550's with other HP devices only after unsuccesfully attempting resolution with HP.
If there are replacement parts that address and resolve this conflict available, where can I obtain them?  If there is a simple remedy, what is it?  What can we do to mitigate this situation and yield a positive outcome?  The K550 is an outstanding printer in terms of speed and print quality, unfortunately its unreliability due to poor feeding performance and need for constant supervision and user intervention doom this model to the component recycler's scrap heap.  Do you have a solution?  Are you experiencing the same problems?  I want to know!

So, I just typed this nice, long post about my SOLUTION to this problem, and apparently the forum didn't like it and deleted it.  I'll have it up in the next couple days.

  • HP PSC 1515 paper-feed problem

    Hi
Our HP PSC 1315 has a paper-feed problem, but this does not appear to be a dirty roller: while I can hear motors whirring when the printer wants to feed in the paper, none of the visible rollers turn ― including the single pick-up roller ― and the "check paper" light remains on.
    Any suggestions? Can you help?
    Thank you
    Michael

    Hi,
You could try a printer reset.  See the following link:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01577374&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
This may help.  However, if the rollers still persist in not moving there may be some mechanical issue with internal gears not engaging.  This would probably necessitate some physical repair so you woul dprobably have to contact HP to find out if there is somewhere that does printer repairs near where you live. See this link:
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/contact.html
    I hope that this helps.

  • Officejet Pro 8500 Feeding problems & Stuck in device check mode.

Ever since my brother decided to unplug my Officetjet Pro 8500 A909a and move it to the other side of the room so he could play on his laptop at my computer desk, my printer has been feeding paper wrong and then displaying a message that says it has the wrong size of paper.  I have NEVER put any different size of paper other than the standard 8X11 letter paper.
When I hit the print button, the printer feeds the paper through crooked and ends up crinkling it partly.  It also marrs one of the edges of the paper.  The error message displays just before the printer spits the paper back out.
I've tried doing different things.  I went to the support section and tried doing the steps listed for a feeding problem.  But none of them worked.  I've tried checking out the topic about paper errors from Microsoft Word.  But even if I try to make a copy via the scanner or the document feeder atop the printer, it still gives me the same error.
Also, when I start my printer up, it goes into the mode where it checks the device and says it may take several minutes.  As I am sitting here writing this, its been in that mode for nearly half an hour now.  It does this every time it goes into that mode now and I find myself interrupting it to get it to stop.  I haven't been to look this problem up yet.  But if anyone has any advice for this problem as well, that would be awesome sauce.
Any good help given will be met with a plate of virtual cookies.  Thanks!

I recently was expirencing this same problem, I was able to correct it by  making sure the copy tray on the bak was properly locked in place. After reseating this all prints came out as perfect as before witout any jams. Hope this helps you out.

  • Paper feed problem

At work we just recently bought an officejet 6500A plus all in one printer, scan, fax; it was doing just fine then today an employee called me in about feeder problems; the problem is that when taking paper from the tray to print a page or document, it will take the paper and then shoot it out tearing the side of the paper and sometimes causing a jam to happen; the screen will display wrong paper size for setting. I have gone through all the setting options and made them to the 8.5 x 11 size; which is our paper size and the paper we have always used with it, after changing the settings to the paper size and type (inkjet) it still will take the paper, chew it up and say it is the wrong size, what should i do ? i have done all i can think of;even cleaning the pulling wheels, please help, i don't want to spend another $320 on another printer when i just bought this one less than two months ago and it is supposed to be top of the line, please help

    Hi,
You might try the steps listed in this document Paper Jam one thing to make sure is the slider guides for the paper are properly set.
If after trying the steps and you're still seeing issues, go ahead and call HP tech support at 1-800-HPINVENT.  Your product has a 1 year warranty, and you've indicated that your product is 2 months old.

  • HP Pro8620 4X6 feed problem

Hi, I followed every step to print pictures on 4X6 HP glossy photo quality paper.  The picture never aligned  in center.  My guess is the paper feeding problem, but I don't know what I can do after checking the tray and software paper settings. And, I have problem printing on both sides on the normal paper. Thanks for the help

Hey , Welcome to the HP forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here. I understand that your photos are not centered properly on the page when printing on your Officejet Pro 8620. I can help you with that.
To start, I'd like to see if the issue is just with photo paper or if it is printing in general. To do so I'd like you to print a regular document from your Macintosh to see if it is centered properly. The document is centered properlyIf the printed document is centered properly then the issue is either with how the tray is loaded or there is an issue with  the Macintosh that is affecting photos. This document outlines loading photos into the paper tray. Once everything is loaded properly then we'll try printing a photo again. At this point if the photo is still not centered we'll try printing from a different program instead. The document is not centered properlyIf the printed document is not centered properly then the issue is most likely with the printer hardware itself. This document outlines how to troubleshoot paperjams. I know you are not having issues with paper jams, but it outlines the same troubleshooting for issues with anything in the paper path. Please let me know how everything turns out. If you have any other questions please let me know by replying in this thread. Likewise if this helps then please let other users know by clicking on Accept as Solution below my post.
I hope this helps and I hope you have a great weekend!

  • LW 12/640 feed problems

Every couple of months or so, I have problems with mt LW 12/640's feeding mechanisms. To date, I've been able to fool around with the rollers, etc and keep it running, but I'm beginning to run out of patience.
Do these kinds of feed problems (paper gets picked up and starts into the rollers only to stop before getting to the toner) usually mark the end of the 12/640's useful life? If not, can I get new roller assembly parts someplace?
If so, what's a good rplacement printed--the 12/640 does all I need. I hate to lose it...
    Many thanks,

As for replacement printers, try recycling companies and government surplus. I picked up several for free at the last WSU acution. WSU and University of Washington (farther away) both send me an email notice of upcoming sales.
Northwestern University has a surplus sale closer to you : ) here:

They list free items. Here is another example near you.

  • 3390 Lazerjet Paper feed problem

I am having a paper feed problem.  The printer is used only for copying, and is not connected to a PC.  There was a paper jam.  The paper was removed, but the pickup problem continues.  The printer makes a knocking noise when directed to copy, but no paper flows, and the knocking eventually stops.

Hi - Try following the steps in this document, specifically the step regarding cleaning the rollers.  While the paper may be feeding and not exhibiting the symptoms mentioned in this document, in many cases the fix is the same.
    Hope that helps.

  • HP PSC1500/ paper feed problem

    HP PSC1500/ paper feed problem
Printer feeds paper halfway and stops. When I release the paper (either from check paper button or back door) , it will feed another sheet of paper and again stops halfway. I have tried all paper jams tricks, checked inside for any trace of stuck paper, cleaned rollers and resets from HP online but I cannot get rid of this paper feed problem. I have used this printer for a few years, has always operated without a problem.
    Can somebody help?

I have same problem with 5pMP printer, any suggestions ( other than get a new printer)

  • Laserjet 1018 paper feed problem - started suddenly and now wrinkles paper but does not feed it in

This HP Laserjet 1018 is 4 years old, has worked flawlessly.  But a day or two ago it fed a sheet of paper, there was a ripping sound, and the paper emerged, printed, but with a 1/4" wide, 5" long missing bit near the bottom, running the long way of the paper.  I found and removed the crinkled up torn strip of paper, and have restarted this printer numerous times.  Since that incident, it refuses to feed paper correctly, but bunches it up and wrinkles it a bit from the left to right and does not feed it in.  Thus, won't work.  I can't see any broken parts or anything stuck inside -- and taking this printer apart is v. complicated -- no easy panel to remove to see the feed mechanism.   I'm doubtful I can take it apart enough, and still get it back together.  I've cleaned the feed roller (small half-round gray rubber thing) and it does not seem to be the problem.
    Questions:
    a) anyone experienced, and solved this problem?
    b) is it worth trying to send this for repair (I got it on special for $69, and the replacement equivalent now appears to be the HP P1102w, which is selling via Amazon for $94.99
    Thanks

  • HP Photosmart Premium C310a Printer paper alignment and paper feed problem.

    Standard Info:
HP Photosmart Premium C310a Inkjet All-in-one Printer.
    Windows 7 Home Premium
No reported errors messages except for paper jams.
No changes were made to the system before the problems began.
    My Info:
I am very proficient with computers and electronics. I would first like to say that this printer has very vibrant inks and its ColorSmart/sRGB ICC profile is pure magic. The high DPI ratings have turned out to be accurate so far and the printer prints beautiful images.
    Problems:
The problem I am having is with the printers paper feed rollers.  They are not scrolling the paper through the printer accurately and consistantly.  There have also been two paper jams when using multipurpose everyday paper.  When printing high res artwork using HP Advanced Photo Paper I was using HP Photosmart Essentials to create an 8"x10" picture on the 8.5"x11" paper and the first 35-40 prints came out accurately but then, before any paper jams or other problems the 8x10 pictures began to not center correctly on the paper.  Then the top of the 8x10 picture started slanting to the right on the paper and extending too close to the right edge of the paper.  The entire 8x10 picture is no longer printing 8x10 (the left side of the picture is just over 8" tall and the right side of the picture is printing just under 8", same thing with the top and bottom edges of the image) and is not centering properly on the paper.  I  just had my second paper jam last night which I clicked the "cancel print" button on the front of the printer touch display to eject the paper.  Immediately after, everything began printing very close to the left edge of the paper and prints at an angle down the sheet no matter what it is that I print or what paper it is printed on.  I have tried using the auto alignment feature on the printer several times and it does not help.
    Questions:
Is this printer purchased on 09/25/2011 from hp.com (with no extended warranty) still under a regular warranty?
If I send it in for repairs will HP be able to fix these problems?
Is there any way that I can adjust the scrollers myself to fix the problem?
Is the new C510a more reliable than the C310a in this field?
I need a backup printer for my art business, I would like to purchase an HP C510a, but am concerned I will have the same problems with the new one.
If anyone can help, please respond.  I cannot go on with these problems any longer.
    Thank you for your time,
    Nanette

Thank you for your quick response Bob.  Your answer was helpful, but did not solve my problem.  I have cleaned the printer exactly as your response has suggested, but there has been no change, and I was not able to find any dirt, scum, dust, or anything at all wrong with the rollers.
Here are a few pictures of some 8"x10" pictures that I just printed on 8.5"x11" HP Advanced Photo Paper:
These 8"x10" images are supposed to be centered on the paper, but are FAR from centered or dimensionally accurate to 8"x10".
This last image shows really well how the top of the 8"x10" image slants downward from left to right as well as approaches too close to the right edge of the paper.
Is this a problem that I can fix on my own?
If I send the printer to HP for repairs will they be able to fix this problem or will they just clean the printer scrollers and send it back thinking it is fixed?
I really need help with this problem, because right now, the printer is not useable.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Mail RSS Feed Problem

Hello, I've got a problem with my RSS feeds in Mail and it's driving me nuts. I had a number of feeds which were all working properly and suddenly my craigslist feeds stopped. All previous and new feeds still work but the craigslist feeds give me the error "There was an error updating the RSS feed “santabarbara.craigslist.org” - The requested URL was not found on this server."
I thought it might be a problem with craigslist but their feed works fine in my Firefox Live Bookmarks. It only appears to not be working in Mail. It was around the time of the 10.6.4 update but I can't be certain. I'm thinking it could be some sort of cache issue for just that site but don't know how to check.
One of the feeds is http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/med/index.rss
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Rob

When you say you tried Safari & Firefox to read feeds from CraigsList, do you mean just loading the RSS URL's (e.g. http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/med/index.rss ) into the browser directly? For myself, CraigsList RSS feeds don't load in Safari 5 either but it does seem to work via Firefox 3.6.3. I bet this might have been the WebKit (Safari 5) update that broke something.
And yes, my CraigsList RSS feeds broke in Apple Mail too (which is what brought me here). I filed a Radar bug ( rdar://problem/8161076 ) to alert Apple internal people.

  • Photosmart 7850 and feeding problem with label paper

I am using Avery Ink Jet labels #8162 and my document is set to that. I do not always have this problem....just sometimes. The label paper seams to not feed in far enough and the labels do not print in the correct place on the page. But if I print the same document on a piece of plain paper....the labels print in the correct place. I have tried cleaning the rollers...sometimes this works. I have in the past also downloaded current drivers. Does anybody have any other suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Patrice

No I have not. I have had this problem for over a year. Sometimes my label paper works and sometimes it doesn't. Just the other day 2 pages printed correctly and the 3rd did not. I was really hoping someone on here had the answer.

  • Flickr Atom Feed Problem

IF I pull in the RSS 2 Feed, from the latest uploads eg:
    http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=98234668@N00&lang=en-us&format=r ss_200
I can work with it well, and do whatever I want.
IF I pull in a set feed (which is apparently Atom 1.0) eg:
    http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photoset.gne?set=72157606748972492&nsid=98234668@N00& lang=en-us
I get nothing usable in Dreamweaver 8.
I have pulled every single item from the feed into the
dreamweaver page, and nothing. Not even a space or paragraph jump
to indicate it tried to pull something, but couldn't.
Now - if I change the photo set code to reflect that is an
RSS 2 feed (ie. add - &format=rss_200) to the end of the line
where it connects to the source, I get the same information as I do
when pulling the "latest" feed, and can work with it no problem. No
problem while previewing the XSL fragment anyhow. Once I call that
fragment from an ASP page, it gives me this error:
    MM_XSLTransform error:
"flickrgalleryfeed.xsl" is not a valid XSLT document.
Reference to undeclared namespace prefix: 'media'.
I have tried to declare media using a declaration from the
page that works - to no avail. It just wont parse.
How can I hack the page so that it thinks it is parsing RSS2?
Is this a dreamweaver problem, an IIS 5 problem, or what? Please
help. What is being checked, and by what, to tell my browser (FLock
2 and IE6) that there is a problem???
Remember - the XSL fragment page previews correctly on it's
own. Once it is called by the ASP page it has a problem and
    generates the error.
I have viewed the feed directly with Flock and other feed
readers, so I know that there is valid data there, I just can't get
    it to display.

    had the same problem have found the following;
Uploading to Photostream - permissions ok
Uploading to a new set via iPhoto - permissions ok
Uploading into a current Flickr Set (even with current photos in set permission as only you) - permissions of uploaded photo not respected and set to public
