HP Officejet 6500 709n network scanner & fax problems

I have a HP p7-1298cb desktop computer that came with Windows 7 and I installed the HP 6500 709n to it successfully. Have a home network with several computers and they all use the printer. The printer was connected to the network with and RJ45 cable. I reciently upgraded my HP desktop to Windows 8 and only that computer has problems with scanning and faxing to this computer. I reinstalled the software (OJ_AIO_6500_E709_Full_Win_WW_140_408)  several times HP desktop using wireless connectivity, wired connectivity and USB connection. Only the USB connection works with all of the printer functions, both wireless and wired only can print. The errors I get with the network connection are the following:
The scan cannot be performed because another program or computer is using the networked HP image device. Try again later. (from HP Solution Center)
Scan communication problems detected. You may experience limited functionality when scanning from your printer to your PC.
If you are using firewall software, verify TCP port 9500 is unblocked from your PC to your printer at 172.17.1.36.
If you are using firewall software, verify TCP port 9290 is unblocked from your PC to your printer at 172.17.1.36.
To fix the issue(s) try to power your printer off and on. (This message is from the installation)
I have added those ports to my firewall and it doesn't have any effect, I also turned off the firewall on the HP desktop and it also has no effect.
I have searched this discussion board and have found similar issues without a resolution.

Hi Moondoggytoo,
It looks like you need to do a full scrub of the printer software and re-install it.  An issue like this can happen following an upgrade to Windows 8 when a printer was already installed.  I have enclosed steps needed to take that will clear out programs that are no longer needed.  This should allow for a clean start with a new install.  Let me know how it goes.
Good Luck!
These steps should only be used on a Windows 8 computer.
Try using the scrubber built into the Download.
From a download:
1. Run disk cleanup on your computer
2. Download and run the software and drivers below.  Select Windows 8 32 or 64 bit, click Next and select the Full Feature Software.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=3795406&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us
3. Once the download is done extracting, cancel the download.
4. Press the Windows key and then the “R” key.
5. This will bring up the Run window.
6. Type %temp% in the run field
7. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
8. Open folder Util
9. Open folder CCC
10. Run the Uninstall_L4.bat
11. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
12. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
13. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
14. Use this tool to clean the system and registry.  Note: This utility is not HP sponsored or approved.  HP and I are not responsible for damages or loss of data caused by the utility.  This step is optional.   You can skip it if you want.

15. Download the full feature software and drivers.  Select Windows 8 32 or 64 bit, click Next and select the Full Feature Software.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=3795406&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us
16. Run the download to reinstall the printer

    Hello,
Make sure the Automatic Duplexing option is enabled:
Enter Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
Set the Automatic Two-Sided Duplex Accessory as installed and click OK to save the change.

  • Issue printing from laptop to my Officejet 6500 709n.

I bought an Officejet 6500 709n printer to run on my home network. I have it connected via USB to my desktop HP running Vista 64bit. This computer is connected to my router(Linksys WRT320N)  via ethernet cable. There is also another HP computer connected to the router via ethernet as well. I shared the printer after installing(which went off without a hitch) and it prints fine from both computers. My Sony Vaio(Vista 64bit as well) is connected to the network wirelessly. I can see the printer on the network, but when i try to print it takes a loooooong time to print. a few minutes goes by before it even acknowledges the printing.
This printer is a replacement for the PSC 950 all in One and everything worked fine before.
    Thanks in advance.

I am sorry but at least you are not alone.  There are many people experiencing this problem (search this forum for '6500' and you will see pages and pages).  I have tried to help many of them to no avail.
I am hoping that the engineers are working hard on this and that there will be a firmware update soon.  Sorry.

  • HP OfficeJet 6500 (E709a) network problems

Hello. I have a new HP OfficeJet 6500 (E709a) Its all in one. I am trying to use it through a network in my home.
It is already working for 1 computer, a wireless laptop BUT not for me, a ethernet wired desktop.
    PC: Windows 7 64 bit
Laptop: Windos Vista (dont know if 32 or 64) Using the printer succesfully wireless.
Well the problem is when trying to scan the printer or computer won't detect each other BUT I can print from my pc to the printer.
I installed it through the PC Add a Printer because everytime I tried it with the program downloaded from HP it wouldnt detect, EVER my connected and already tested printer. I can access the printers webpage, the 0.0.0.0.0 something page. I even tried the advanced installing way, manually typing the address the printer has but it would still not work.
I installed everything by selecting I would wire my printer later but to continue the installation I must find a way for it to detect my pc or the otherway around.
    This question was solved.

Yes, plug the printer into your router with an Ethernet cable the run the Add Device in the Hewlett-Packard folder (Start > All Programs).

  • Officejet 6500 forgetting network name and drops out all the time

I just got an Officejet 6500 (non-wireless model)
I can assign a network name to it and it works fine, until it's power-cycled. Then it has the original network name again and of course it won't work until it's installed again.
Another problem that could probably be related is that even when I use the default network-name to add it as a network printer in Vista, connection seem to break and it won't print again until I install it over once again.
I get the feeling that firmware is somewhat buggy on it. I don't expect such a device to use batteries to keep it's settings, so I think it's safe to rule out?

@Wifi-Guy: Yes, it's using an ethernet cable IP address always work.
I did some additional testing to find the exact reproducable error.
(I have previously installed the HP software that came on the CD)
    1. I added the printer using the "Add new printer" wizard in Vista
    2. Print test page, works fine
    3. Turn off the Officejet 6500 on the power-button on the front panel (then the WSD Print Provider dissappears in Device Manager).
    4. Printer status now appear as "Offline"
    5. Turn on the Officejet 6500 again
    6. When WSD Print Provider again appears in Device Manager, printer status changes from "Offline" to "User intervention Required" and it's impossible to make it print again unless printer is deleted and added again.
I was not able to find any useful information about this printer status using google.
I just tried changing the network name. As I suspected, this also resets just by powercycling.
    Note: I'm using Vista x64.

  • Officejet 6500 709n

I have a Surface with windows 8.1 rt.  I try to download drivers for the 6500 709n and I get a message that the device is not supported .  Are there drivers compatible to the windows 8.1 rt

    Hi,
Windows RT does not use drivers. I don't have a similar printer I use HP AiO Printer Remote app to print to my loan HP printer. I can scan from HP Scan and Capture app (as standalone) of as a component of HP AiO Printer Remote app.
Please use Windows Store and search for the above 2 apps and install on your Surface RT.
    Regards.

  • Reinstallation printer driver- Wizard stalls - HP officejet 6500 709n and Windows 7

After windows 7 auto update of my driver, printer offline became its status. I uninstalled the driver, downloaded a new one and ran installation wizard. System checked, system prepartion were successful, but configurate product is stalled on 2/9 with printer not responding message. Any ideas about how I might proceed?

Hello supernumerary, and wecome to the HP Forums!
I see you are running into issues with your install. I would like to assist with that today.
First thing I would suggest would be to stop the installation. Once it has been stopped, I would recommend uninstalling any residual software that was put in during the failed install.  I am including a document on Uninstalling the Printer Software in case you run into any issues.
Once the printer is uninstalled, I would recommend following through this document on Wireless printing center Troubleshooting Issues to ensure the printer wireless functions are still connected.
Once the printer is verified to be online, and the old software is completely removed, I would suggest restarting the computer and reinstalling the software using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Officejet 6500 wireless network port

I just got a new firewall program and now it blocks access to the printer. I remember back when I installed it I had a different firewall that did the same thing, and the install wizard told me to unblock a certain port. Now I can't find which port number that is! If you know which port the printer uses, please reply!
    Thanks!

These are the ports that you need to unblock in order for your printer to work:
    UDP 427 inbound
    TCP 139 outbound
    UDP 427 outbound
    TCP 9220 outbound
    UDP 161 outbound
    TCP 9500 outbound
    UDP 139 outbound
    TCP 9290 outbound
And these are the softwares that should be added to the exceptions list of your firewall:
Open the C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin directory, and then locate the following files:
    hpoews01.exe
    hpofxm08.exe
    hposid01.exe
    hpqkygrp.exe
    hpqste08.exe
    hpqtra08.exe
    hposfx08.exe
hpiscnapp.exe (for HP software v10.0 or later)
    OR
hpqscnvw.exe (for HP software v9.0 or earlier)
Open the C:\windows\system32 directory, and then locate the following files:
    hpzwiz01.exe
    hpznui01.exe

  • Fax Problem

I’m having a problem with the fax line on my HP Officejet Pro 8500A Printer/Scanner/Fax machine.
When I plug the fax line from the HP Officejet Pro 8500A into the phone jack, none of the other phones in our house will work, and it shows on the printer display that the phone line is in use. When trying to use any of the phones in the house, there is a busy signal sound. When I unplug the fax line, all the phones work fine.
The source of the phone line is at the ATT Modem (3800HGV-B). The phone line exits the modem and goes through an analog RFI phone filter, then goes to a 5 line splitter. One of the 5 lines goes to a wall jack that supplies the rest of the phones in the house. The 2nd goes to a phone jack in an APC surge arrester in-port (the out-port goes to a phone located by the desktop computer), and the 3rd goes to the fax machine. The other 2 are empty.
This configuration has been working perfectly for about 1 year until about September 11th, 2014. I was gone for a week and the phones weren’t working when I returned but the last voice mail I received on the answering machine was on September 11th so the phone had to have have been working up until then.
I tried bypassing the 5-line splitter and connecting the ATT Modem phone line directly to the fax machine and the problem still persisted.
Can anyone help with this problem? I’m stumped.

    Hi @dborski,
I understand that you having issues with the fax. I can help you with this.
I have provided a document with some steps to test the fax connection and fax settings.
    Cannot Send or Receive Faxes.
What were the results of the fax test?
Sorry for all the questions, but it will help to resolve this issue quicker.
What type of connection do you have? (Analogue, DSL, Cable Modem)
Are you using the 2 wire fax cable?
Do you have distinctive ring set up on the line?
Is there any voice mail set up?
Do you have a answering machine? (Where is it connected to?)
Is there a phone also connected the printer?
    Have a nice day!

  • Computers Can't Find OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Connection

For a while, my OfficeJet 6500 709n worked perfectly for a week or two over my wireless network. For reasons I cannot understand, none of my computers can see it anymore. It shows up on the router information page, but even browsing to the printer's IP in my browser times out. (So it's not a driver issue.)
When I connect it to a wired ethernet connection, it works perfectly again, with the ability to access the browser interface. But nothing I do makes it work wirelessly again.
    Help?
    Steps I've taken:
    (1) Restarted all relevant computers, the router, and the printer.
    (2) Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers (10.3 from the site)
    (3) Put the printer on a static IP address. (192.168.1.100)
    (4) Ensured all OS firewalls are off
    (5) Printed a network status page from the printer front-panel showing that everything is connected to the network
    (6) Located the printer as a connected device on my wireless router configuration page (http://192.168.1.1)
    (7) Connected through my browser to other networked devices (my Tivo) to ensure that those work. They do.
    My setup:
I have an OfficeJet 6500 709n that I use with two MacBook Pro laptops running OS 10.6.4. The whole system is networked through a Verizon FiOS router (ActionTec) with WPA encryption.
So I'm really, really stumped here. Any help at all would be wonderful.
    Thanks, all!

From the front of the printer go to Setup > Network > Reset Network Defaults.  From the Network area, now run the Wireless Setup Wizard.
Next, let's set a static IP address for the printer.  I need to know what router and security type you use.

  • Officejet 6500 E710n Moved network problems

Hi, I previously posted on being unable to modify existing devices in windows 7. the post is here:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/officejet-6500-E710n-Moved-network-how-...
The fix fixed the printer however now when we go to use the scanner with in the HP software it says device can not be found. It also used to give the option to scan when you double click on the device.
PC configuration has not changed and you can access the scan function through the web console. The only change there has been is the change in network address of PC's and printer.
Any help would be gratefully recieved!
