HP Officejet 6700 Premium - Error message: The printhead appears to be missing ...

Our printer have worked fine for I think 18 months, but now I keep getting a message of "the printhead appears to be missing, not detected, orincorrectly installed".
I have switched the machine on and off and I have reinstlalled the  ink cartrigeed and checked to make sure they were all installed correctly but still I am unable to print.
Any suggestions?

Hello @Utti , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're experiencing printhead issues.  I would like to try and help with that.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges from the printer, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also suggest plugging the printer power into a different wall outlet.
Another tool you can utilize would be this document on A 'Missing or Failed Printhead' Error Message Displays on the Printer or on the Computer.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • HP Officejet 6700 Premium - error message

    Hi,
Our printer here in the office has been showing the same error message for a while now and we cannot find out why it keeps comin up. The error message reads;  'Paper Jam, The original is jammed in the automatic document feeder (ADF)
Open the ADF cover, remove and reload the original, and then try again.'
I cannot find anything jammed and am not entirely sure what ADF cover means? Can anyone help with this as it will not let us scan anything
    Thank you

    Hello Latitude50,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) on the printer.
I have a few steps that we can run through to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also done some research and I have found a great document the deals with troubleshooting a paper jam error.
Please click on the following link :   'Paper Jam' Message Displays on the Printer.
Please pay close attention to Solution six: Clear the paper jam from the automatic document feeder.
I hope this information is helpful.  If you have any other questions, please feel free to write me back and I will be more than happy to help.
    Thank you for your time.

  • HP Officejet 6700 Premium - Missing or Failed Printhead Error Message

Can anyone help me troubleshoot the error message for an HP Officejet 6700 Premium Printer:Missing or failed printhead. The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed. This error message popped up in the middle of printing. I looked online and the only troubleshooting support they provided was to turn the printer off, unplug for 15 seconds, and turn back on. I did that 3 times now, and it has not solved the problem. Has anyone else had this error message and been able to resolve it, or will I just need to buy a new printer? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Two months have gone by, and no feedback from HP whatsoever. It's clear that they are completely aware that there is a widespread defect on this model, and they have no plans to address it. I'm sure they weighed their options, whether it was in their best financial interest to either address the problem & provide support, or to sweep it under the rug & lose customers like ourselves. It looks like, in this case, we're expendable. I couldn't go too long without a printer, and since the definition of "insanity" is doing the same thing over & over while expecting a better result, I opted to choose a different brand. About 6 weeks ago, I chose an Epson WorkForce WF-7510 wide-format all-in-one. It retailed at $250, but is usually on-sale for a little over $200. It has been fantastic. It is light-years quieter & smoother running than HP 6700, has a very innovative feeder tray that opens & closes (and folds nearly flat in the closed position), and performs fantastically. It runs, looks, & feels far more substantial than the last two HP's we've owned. Claims that it's of office-grade quality isn't just fluffing / lip-service as it was with the 6700. It really is a professional-grade product. I'm sorry that it didn't work out with HP. They've lost a customer. I'm sure that we're far from the only ones. Based on this experience, and that HP is trying to avoid addressing what is obviously an epidemic problem for this model, I've learned not to give them anymore of our business.

  • OfficeJet 6700 Premium Problems after Windows 8.1 update

My Officejet 6700 Premium worked great wirelessly under Windows 7 to print & Scan.  Since updating to Windows 8.1, I can print to the printer wirelessly (having set it up manually from the printer), but the software won't load and I can't scan.  Setting up a network connection using downloaded HP software fails (it just says it failed, no error message), and trying to download the entire software package (which includes scan, which I need), also fails during step 1 of 4.  I tried uninstalling all HP software first, but the same errors persist.  I don't want to mess things up further (as I said, I'm able to print wirelessly now), but I really want to be able to scan to the computer.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello mfrank1,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some printing issues since you upgraded to Windows 8.1.
I do have a few troubleshooting steps that we can try to resolve this issue.
I first suggest that we uninstall the old software and drivers. I realize that you have already attempted to do this but I still would like to try it again but this time using the following document:  Uninstalling the Printer Software.
When you stated that you have the printer connected with a direct connection using wireless, is this with a Bluetooth connection? Do you have a Router that you are going through?
Once the software is uninstalled, please restart the computer.  Please disable any firewalls or anti virus protection before starting the next step.
When the computer is back up and running, please click on the following link for the HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver.
Please save the download to the Desktop of the computer so that it creates it's own Icon.  Double click on the new Icon and follow the instructions.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • Officejet 6700 Premium says color cartridge is depleted and won't print at all

My printer is only 5-6 months old, and refuses to print because it says the Yellow cartridge is depleted. I know it has not dried up and that it is still printing fine because I signed up for an app that prints out recipes every weekday (in color) and the page printed just this morning looked perfectly fine - the yellow showed up totally normal. The estimated ink level for the yellow cartridge does say that it is depleted, but how can that be when I have proof (from this morning's printout) that I still have yellow ink?  And, according to the manual, the printer will still print if one of the color cartridges is depleted, as long as the black is not depleted. The black is only half-used, so why is the manual giving false information and my printer still refuses to print anything? Very frustrated....

Hey BoydJones, I see you are having an issue with your Officejet 6700 Premium and have a few questions.  There are 2 major types of ink systems for inkjet model printers: IPH (integrated printhead) and IIC (individual ink cartridges).  Many older model printers used the IPH style cartridge system: Tri-Color and Black.  Most newer printers use the IIC system, but not all. There was a reason for the paradigm shift in the ink systems.  The tri-color cartridge contained all 3 colors used in color printing: Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.  If any one of the 3 ran out, then you had to replace the cartridge no matter how much of the other 2 remain in the cartridge.  In the IIC system one can change only the individual color that is out. As to the reason your color is draining from what appears to be little color usage:  The printer uses ink in many ways.  Ink is used when cleaning the printhead to ensure proper performance in print jobs, a small amount of color ink is placed below black ink to ensure a full rich black color and a long lasting printout, and ink is used to perform other preventative maintenance in the printer.  For more information on how ink is used in HP printers please click here. The reason one has to change the cartridge in the IIC style ink system is to prevent damage to the printhead of the unit by ink drying in the ports of the printhead.  The printhead in the 6700 premium is a stationary/permanent printhead and any damage of this nature could prevent the unit from printing at all.  In the 2 cartridge, IPH, system the printhead is contained with the cartridge and replaced with each cartridge change.  Thus, if one runs out of color and waits to replace the cartridge there will not be an issue of dried ink in the ports as the printhead is changed with the cartridge. I hope this helps to explain and clarify.  As well, I saw your post and forwarded it to the right people for their review. You should hear back from someone shortly via private message on this Forum. Jason

  • Scanning with an Officejet 6700 Premium

    Hi!
    I'm having trouble scanning documents.
My laptop is a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.10.1 (Yosemite).
The printer is an Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One. It is connented via WiFi -- the Printers & Scanners section of System Preferences lists it as HP Officejet 6700-AirPrint.
I *can* print documents, so the setup is not entirely messed up...
The printer makes copies, so the scanning hardware must be OK.
I downloaded and installed fresh drivers from the HP website.
I *can* scan documents by going to the printer's webpage, then to Scan > Webscan. This only works in Firefox, not in Chrome, and doesn't give me the option to select the are I'd like to scan. It's rather inconvenient.
    What *doesn't* work:
-Webscan in the Chrome browser: the scanner makes some noise but I can't save the result.
-In Preview, File > Import from Scanner... is disabled. This used to work and was very convenient, but then broke somehow.
-HP Scan. It says "Preparing to scan..." for a couple of seconds then pops up an error message: "Scanner reported an error. HP Officejet 6700 is currently unavailable. Please check if it is turned on and connected, or try again later."
-"Scan to computer" from the printer. A popup appears on my computer screen:
"Scan failed. The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.hp.scanhandler.error error 2.)"
Any help would be greatly appreciated! It would be wonderful if we could get Preview's Import from Scanner... function to work.
    Thanks,
    b

    Ha!
    I fixed it.
    Here's what I did:
-Run HP Uninstaller to remove... everything?
    -Reboot the laptop.
-Do a factory reset on the printer, then re-enter the WiFi password.
-Download the driver (is that what it is?) from hp.com/support. I noticed that the file is called "HP Inkjet SW OSX Mavericks.pkg" even though my OS is called Yosemite.
-Install that, following all prompts. When I added the printer I picked"HP Officejet 6700" rather than "AirPrint" for"Use:"even though AirPrint would have been the default and the choice of "Auto Select". See attached screenshot.
-Go to Preview, menu File > Import from HP Officejet 6700... and test. Success!
Of course I don't know which of these things made the difference, but it worked for me.
    Cheers,
    b

  • Hp officejet 6700 premium printer-printer failure

I bought a HP officejet 6700 premium a month ago.  I installed the printer and it printed ok.  But after a few day of use, it suddenly stopped printing and gave a Printer Failure massage on the front control panel.  The message says: There is a problem with the printer or ink system.  Turn printer off then on.  If problem persists, contact HP.  I have checked all ink cartridges.  They seem all ok (I have only print less than 10 pages since installed). I have turned power off and on several times but did'nt work.   I have searched all over the HP website for help, but still can't find a solution for my printer problem.   I deeply appreciate, if someone can help me or give me directions to make my new printer works again.  Thanks.
P.S.  my laptop computer has Winders 7.

Did you get an answer? I think the problem lies with the blue print head with the gold pins, they get bent when you change out printer cartridges. Several folks have had this problem. I watched a youtube video of repairman saying both the 6600 and 6700 printer had this problem until HP changed the print heads. I am still fussing with HP about this but I am pretty certain I won't get any relief. Good luck

Scan-to-email app with Officejet 6700 Premium printer - attachment does not come through

    Hi
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you are unable to use the scan to email feature of your Officejet 6700 printer because you are getting an unable to connect message.
There are several steps I would like you to try please.
    Please turn off your printer.
Please turn off your router.  If your router doesn’t have an on/off switch, please unplug the power cord from the router.
After waiting a full 60 seconds please turn on your router (or plug it back in).
After the router has completed its startup routine please turn on your printer.
After the printer has completed its startup routine, please test the scan to email feature.  If it works there no need to continue with any further trouble shooting steps.
Please set a manual IP address and manual DNS servers for the printer. I have included a link to another post with the steps, including screen shots on how to do this.   Don’t worry that the screen shots show a Officejet 8600 printer, the steps are the same.
Please test the scan to email feature.  If it works there is no need to continue with any further trouble shooting steps.
Please call HP’s Cloud Services at 1-855-785-2777 if you live in the USA/Canada region. If you live outside the USA/Canada region please click here to find the Technical Support number for your country/region.
