HP Officejet Pro 8600-a: Can't Fax after converting to Verizon Home Phone

Can anyone provide me with a solution?
My HP Officejet Pro 8600 All In One worked just perfectly prior to converting our home telephone from AT&T/Frontier to Verizon Home phone service.
Now, I can't send nor receive a fax.  What I've read on the "net", it appears I will need to junk my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 and buy a new unit compatible with Verizon Home phone service. It would be a shame to junk a unit that is not even 1 year old.
My hope is someone here has come across a solution!
Thank you for your help.

Thank you all for your input.
Please understand I did not rush into making this Home Phone change to Verizon. I met with the same Verizon "agent" 3 separate days at 3 separate times.  Together we went over point-by-point all of my requirements.  We did cover faxing capabilities. Still I was sold a product that didn't fit my basic needs.
Hopefully, I am still within my window to cancel.
I need to be able to fax, so I have a lot of work to do to straighten this mess out.
Thanks again!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a - Print when Fax is Not Saved

Can I make it so a fax is printed when it's not saved? I know I can set it to print and save every time, but I rely on HP Digital Fax to save paper. If a fax is not saved, either due to a network error or if the computer that it usually saves to is shut off, can the fax just be printed?

, it's nice to meet you. I think I found something that may help with your faxing dilemma. This information was in the User Guide for the Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a; pg 69. Set up backup fax Depending on your preference and security requirements, you can set up the printer to store all the faxes it receives, only the faxes it receives while the printer is in an error condition, or none of the faxes it receives. The following backup fax modes are available:On > The default setting. When Backup fax is On, the printer stores all received faxes in memory. This enables you to reprint up to eight of the most recently printed faxes if they are still saved in memory. NOTE: When printer memory is low, it overwrites the oldest, printed faxes as it receives new faxes. If the memory becomes full of unprinted faxes, the printer stops answering incoming fax calls. NOTE: If you receive a fax that is too large, such as a very detailed color photo, it might not be stored in memory due to memory limitations.
On Error Only > Causes the printer to store faxes in memory only if an error condition exists that prevents the printer from printing the faxes (for example, if the printer runs out of paper). The printer continues to store incoming faxes as long as there is memory available. (If the memory becomes full, the printer stops answering incoming fax calls.) When the error condition is resolved, the faxes stored in memory print automatically, and then they are deleted from memory.
Off > Faxes are never stored in memory. For example, you might want to turn off Backup fax for security purposes. If an error condition occurs that prevents the printer from printing (for example, the printer runs out of paper), the printer stops answering incoming fax calls. NOTE: If backup fax is enabled and you turn the printer off, all faxes stored in memory are deleted, including any unprinted faxes that you might have received while the printer was in an error condition. You must contact the senders to ask them to resend any unprinted faxes. For a list of the faxes you have received, print the Fax Log. The Fax Log is not deleted when the printer is turned off. To set backup fax from the printer control panel 1. Touch (right arrow), and then select Setup.2. Touch Fax Setup, and then select Advanced Fax Setup.3. Touch Backup Fax Reception.4. Touch On, On Error Only, or Off. Reprint received faxes from memoryIf you set the Backup fax mode to On, the received faxes are stored in memory, whether the printer has an error condition or not. NOTE: After the memory becomes full, the oldest, printed faxes are overwritten as new faxes are received. If all the stored faxes are unprinted, the printer does not receive any fax calls until you print or delete the faxes from memory. You might also want to delete the faxes in memory for security or privacy purposes. Depending on the sizes of the faxes in memory, you can reprint up to eight of the most recently printed faxes, if they are still in memory. For example, you might need to reprint your faxes if you lost the copy of your last printout. To reprint faxes in memory from the printer control panel 1. Make sure you have paper loaded in the main tray.2. Touch (right arrow), and then select Setup.3. Touch Tools or Fax Tools, and then select Reprint Faxes in Memory. The faxes are printed in the reverse order from which they were received with the most recently received fax printed first, and so on.4. If you want to stop reprinting the faxes in memory, touch the Cancel button.  Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!  Thanks,

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard - HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer not working after promoting to Domain Controller / AD Services

An associate and myself installed the built-in drivers for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus multi-function (network) printer on a Windows Server 2012 Standard server installation and everything worked fine whenever I want to print anything directly from the
Windows Server machine (there's a reason for this, so please understand that ;)  ).
We were able to print without any problems from the Windows Server 2012 machine, using the drivers from Microsoft.  Mainly, because HP has not listed any specific support for Windows Server 2012, only Windows Server 2008 R2, however, the drivers that
came with Windows 2012 seem to work very well.
PROBLEM: I later had to promote the Windows Server 2012 to a Domain Controller, and created the Active Directory configurations, even enabled the Print Services.  After doing all of that, the HP printer will not print anything.  It's like all print
requests directly from the Windows Server go to Nil.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this before? The only thing I can think of is that after perhaps something affected printing directly once we promoted the server to being a DC, and added other features / roles.  I even tried installing the
HP drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2, and the results are still the same...nothing prints.  Trust me, the printer is set as the Default Printer and even when choosing to print, we make sure the HP OfficeJet Pro is selected, and is on, as other Windows
Client PC's can print to it directly.
Does anyone have any suggestions we could try?  Thanks in advance.

While it is quite a while since this was posted - I can concur a similar issue exists.
We have spent the better part of a day trying to work out why other HP printers work fine but our 8620 prints are not printing and going to Nil.  The print server is hosted on a shared DC.  Comparing to the initial posters details, for some reason
it seems to be most commonly related to the OfficeJet Pro 8600/8610/8620/8630 series printers.
I ended up doing a print server migration from the domain controller to stand alone host and all printers now work from a single server rather than a mix.  Domain controller OSes varied from 2008, 2012, 2012 R2 (tested with multiple) and only after
all of those failed then tried a stand alone server os machine as a last resort which worked fine.  Printing directly from Win 7 / 8 /8.1 clients to the IP always worked.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Won't Fax

My printer and scanner works fine, but it will not send or receive a fax.  I went through all the troubleshooting steps on the hp website and it still won't fax.  I'm not sure what else to do.  The phone line is good.

Hi Cathy_Orleans, welcome to the forums,
I understand you are unable to send or receive faxes from your Officejet 8600 Plus. I would suggest trying all of the troubleshooting steps in the guide below for this problem.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 won't send fax

My previous HP printer faxed fine.  This one will not always connect even though it hears the fax tone.  I'll get an error 322, and then I try it again and it connects.  But now it sends 2 pages (I'm trying to send 3) then gives error 322.  I have a phone with answering machine on this line - the same configuration has worked fine with past HP printers.  I tried slowing down the fax speed - that has not helped.  I ran the fax test and got all passes, and I sent a test fax to 1-888-hpfaxme and that worked fine (I got a response back).  Could the problem be with the fax at the other end?  (except that I have been faxing to this same fax monthly for years) Or with my phone and answering machine (I have Vonage which also includes voicemail and caller id, which *32 does not turn off).  I've never experienced faxing being this hard.

    Hi anthony2,
I see by your post that you are having issues sending faxes and have been getting a 322 error.
I can help you with this issue.
Keep in mind that you are using a VoIP line and voicemail which can cause issues.
A Analogue line is your best bet for using a fax.
Make sure you are using the 2 wire fax cable.
I have provided a document to go through the steps to see if it will help resolve this issue.
Fax Sending Fails Intermittently or Fails for Only One Recipient.
This information was provided from this document for Interpreting Error Codes in Fax Communication Error or Fax History Reports.
There was a communication error with the receiving fax machine due to poor telephone line conditions.
Set the receiving machine to receive at a slower transmission speed
If the session fails after sending several pages of a large document, resend the document as several smaller documents.
Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.
If you need further assistance, let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, N911g sends faxes, but won't receive

    Hello,
My printer will send faxes, but not receive them.
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, SP1.  The printer is connected to the computer via wireless.  The phone is Comcast Digital Voice.  The printer is the only device connected to the phone line.  Per techs at Comcast, the phone line is functional.
I ran a Fax Test via the printer, and all items read "PASS".
I completed all the steps in the following link, "Cannot Send or Receive Faxes" found on the support forums, EXCEPT resetting the printer by unplugging the power cord while the printer is on.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02891758&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us...
As per the instructions,  I sent a fax to the HP Fax Test Service.  The outgoing fax appeared to connect properly and send, as I heard the dial tone and connection sounds, and I received a fax confirmation, result "OK", from the printer. However, the return fax never arrived.
I also confirmed that the number set in the fax header in the Basic Fax Setup, is indeed my phone line number.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Jason

    Hey Jason,
I have ran into this situation quite a few times in my experiences with fax issues,  it very well could be the digital line itself. My last suggestions for you would be to try a power reset on the printer, and also try a filter on the fax line to see if that could help the line. If you are still having issues with sending faxes, give us a call to our technical support to see if there are any more options for you.
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Here is an example of a filter:

  • Have an iPad 3. Have an HP Officejet Pro 8600. Can not print.

Have an iPad 3. I can not print, but was able to print from my wife's iPad 3. Have printed as early as last Thursday. 4/18/2013. Why not now?

Perhaps a firmware update for the printer if one is available? Many times rebooting/restarting everything will do the trick, but obviously that did not work for you.
Did you reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen?
The other thing that you might considers is to reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. That will reset the iPad to factory defaults for all of the iPad settings. It will not delete any data but it will be time consuming to set all of the device settings back to where you had them. I know, because I have done it.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (All-in-One) - Incoming Fax but mistakenly answer phone

I have landline phone service.  On this line, I have multiple phones, an answering machine, internet service via wireless Uverse setup, and the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus as a fax.  It's also a printer/scanner - but that uses the wireless Uverse service.
The unit works as a phone, if I answer in fewer than 4 rings.  The answer machine picks up after 4 rings.  If a fax, the fax connects after 6 rings.  (Auto answer function is turned on.)  This works.
If I mistakenly answer a fax call with the phone that the HP 8600 is connected through, I can press: 1,2,3 and the fax will answer.  This works.
Problem: If I mistakenly answer a fax call from one of the other phones in the house (same phone line is ringing as before - but the phone is NOT the one through which the HP 8600 is connected) - 1,2,3, does NOT work.  If I rush to the HP 8600: pressing the "fax" button on the unit does not connect the fax call; nor does the HP 8600 give me the option to "Accept" the call, when the phone as been answered.
Does anyone know what buttons to push to get the fax to connect when the phone line is answered at a phone?  Either at the answered phone OR if I can get to the HP 8600 when I hear the fax tone - buttons I can push on the HP 8600 to get it to respond to the fax tones coming in on the line?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

I see that you have some concerns when it comes to answering a fax call by accident from another phone.  Pressing the 1.2.3 on the fax is the proper way to remedy the issue when you answer from the fax, however this feature will not work from another phone.
I do realize that this is an inconvenience.  The only resolution would be to contact the sender of the fax and have them resend.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hi all, simple question.
What's the difference, beside shape, little speed up and LCD screen, between:
HP Officejet Pro 8600 HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus
Can't really find out if the second is worth 50 euro more.
Also, do HP drivers work well with OS X?

  • WiFi Wireless Setup Wizard produces Blue Screen of Death on Officejet Pro 8600 Plus

The wireless setup wizard on my Officejet Pro 8600 Plus is failing immediately after "scanning for networks". I get a blue screen of death with error message B8494B00, followed by "turn printer on and off" with flashing screen.
I bought the printer about one month ago and it has worked perfectly so far. My Apple Time Capsule failed yesterday, so I bought a new one (latest model) and had to set up the wireless network again. When I tried to do so on the printer, I got the error for the first time. Nothing else had changed. Other devices are working with no problems on the new network. The computer is an Apple iMac running OS Mountain Lion.
I have tried turning the printer on and off, disconnecting the power and reconnecting, then turning it on again, but no result. I have restored the wireless to factory settings, but no difference.
    Please help.

Right off I have to tell you I do not "speak Mac".
I assume the "Apple Time Capsule" is a name for a network router?  A syncing device?
    Unless I am mistaken:
You do not need the Wizard to set up the network -- it is pretty software for an HP PC; when it works, it can make things easier.  The setup Wizard is not necessary for the process.  I should think this is true for the Mac.
    =====================================================================================
If you cannot get someone from the Printing group to answer your specific concern,
you may have succes with the following:
The User Guide has pretty good detail on how to set up the networking necessary to get the printer connected to either a PC or Mac environment.  Assuming you can get the printer to "Reset network settings" (User Guide, page 222), then you can re-enter the information you require manually.  It is a bit tedious, but is may work better than fighting the Wizard.
    OfficeJet Pro 8600 User Guide
You may be able to circumvent sone or all of this by reinstalling the Full Feature Software for your printer -- that assumes you are first able to "reset network settings", at least, and get a printout test page to verify that the reset actually worked.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One printer - N911a - Cannot scan

    Hi Support,
I am getting very frustrated with my new printer. Now I have searched this forum and tried this and that, installed and uninstalled and run misc. HP tools, still I cannot use the "HP Scan" program from the PC and also not the "Scan to Computer" option from the printer.
I get an error message saying that "HP Officejet Pro 8600 was not found".
I am able to scan to a networkfolder - and printing is also possible.
I have activated every setting in the EWS admin module to be sure.
I have checked that these services are running (was mentioned in another support ticket):
     - Remote Procedure Call RPC .
     - DCOM Server Process Launcher
     - RPC Endpoint Mapper
     - Shell Hardware Detection
     - Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
and they are - so that is not the problem.
When I run the "HPPIW.exe" (Printer Install Wizard) downloaded from support - it says that the full installation is there except the drivers.
    System info:
    HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One printer - N911a
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Product CD - holds driver version 24.2.0 ( which also is the latest version that I can download.)
Please someone help me, I was expecting to be able to use the product that I bought ;O)
    Thanks,

  • Wireless works, but ethernet does not OfficeJet Pro 8600

I just purchased an OfficeJet Pro 8600 and can't get it to work on the ethernet port.  The printer states that it is not connected.  I know the calbe works because I can print to a different printer when attached to that cable.  Any assistance is appreciated.

  • How can I set the fax prefix no. on HP officejet pro 8600

    Greeting.
I have a HP Officejet Pro 8600, and I want to send FAX thru this.
In my office, we need to put '0' to call outside.
However, there is no prefix setting menu on this device.
I have another model HP 1213mf which has Prefix No. menu on it, but I couldn't find this menu on 8600.
    Please Help me

    Hi Wony,
    Welcome to the HP forums!
I understand you're looking for a way to add a prefix on the Officejet 8600 for faxing, and I will do my best to explain what I found on this subject.
As far as I can tell, and I did check with a few colleagues, there is no Prefix No. menu on the OJ 8600 like there was on your LaserJet 1213mf. With that being said, that doesn't mean that you can't use this printer to fax in your office. Anytime you need to dial the fax you would hit the 0 first follow by ##, as that adds a pause to the dialing to then dial the rest of the number. You can also add that to speed dial numbers so that for numbers that are used all the time you don't have to dial the number each and every time.
So just as an example, if you were to fax HP's faxback server (1-888-473-2963) you would dial "0##1-888-473-2963" to get the fax to send.
This may not be exactly what you were looking for, but I hope this is an acceptable workaround Please let me know!

  • I can print a test page from my Mac to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 but nothing else will print

Hi - I just recently had a hard drive crash and had to revert to an old Time Machine backup on my new hard drive to get my Mac back.  Since getting back up and running I have been unable to get my Officejet Pro 8600 back online.  My computer is wired to the wireless router but the printer is running wireless.  My computer can see the printer just fine and I can even print a "Print Quality Diagnostic" report from my Mac to the printer from the HP utility.  But nothing else will print.  The firmware is up to date.  I have tried resetting the printing system multiple times, rebooting the machine, etc... Nothing works.  Any help would be appreciated.
If it helps, we were using a different printer the last time the time machine was backed up, so when we used that backup the old printer was showing, but I reset the printing system, so it shouldn't matter.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hello @Ryan221,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see your hard drive recently crashed and now you are not longer able to print to your HP Officejet Pro 8600. I see you have reset the printing system with no success. Let's try a different approach:
    Scrub/ Uninstall
    • Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
    • Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    • * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    • Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
    1. Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
    2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
    3. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
    4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
    5. Type the correct Name and Password.
    6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol..
