HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g can not define a custom size paper.

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g can not define a custom size paper.  I would like to have a custom size to work with a card making program.

Can you help me out?
I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a
When I try to print to a custom print size (2.75" x 6" in my case), I get the same error everyone else is reporting: "Paper detected does not match paper size or type selected. Make sure the paper size or type is correct to continue the job."
I am currently trying to print using Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 version 14.4.5, but I have the same problem with printing from Adobe Reader 9.8.5 or Preview 8.0.
I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.
My printer's firmware is "up to date" as of 28-Aug-2014.
This is what I did:
1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.
2. Click on the Printers & Scanners icon.
3. Click on the + sign under the list of printers to add a printer
4. Click on IP
5. Enter my IP address in the Address field (verified as "valid and complete host name or address")
6. Ignore Protocol field (default is Line Printer Daemon - LPD)
7. Ignore Queue field (default is blank for default queue)
8. Ignore Name field (default is IP address)
9. Ignore Location field (default is blank)
10. Under the Use dropdown menu, I select "Select Software"
11. HP Deskjet 9800 is not an option.
I searched for 9800, but there is no HP printer with that number in the options.
I tried selecting "HP DeskJet 980C - Gutenprint v5.2.3" to see if that would work, but I received the same error message as above. I tried selecting other random HP printers, but so far I've had no luck.
I've been googling about for a way to manually add a printer driver to this "Select Software" list, but I've found nothing (apparently, no one else wants to do this). I did not find a driver download for the HP DeskJet 9800 for OS X Yosemite 10.10 on the Drivers & Software section of the hp.com website.
Additional details on settings for Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 version 14.4.5:
Selected File > Page Setup from menu
Under the Paper Size drop down menu, I selected manage custom size.
- Click + to add a paper size
- Enter "2.75" in width and "6 in" height in the paper size fields.
- Enter "0 in" as the User Defined Non-Printable Area for top, left, right and bottom.
- Double-clicked Untiled in the custom size list and rename the size as Receipt
- Click OK to return to the Page Setup dialog box
Under Settings: Page Attributes:
- Format for "HP Officejet Pro 8600"
- Paper size: Receipt
- Orientation: "tall/portrait"
- Scale: 100%
- Click OK
Select Format > Document and set all page margins to 0.25"
Thank you.

I insert an SD card full of photos into the built in card reader - but have no option to send the photos to a file on my computer. Does this product only print but not send to a computer?  I need to edit the photos before printing.

    Hi @Rodney88,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer N911g wont send SD imapges to computer, and I am happy to help!
According to your printer's user guide found at this website, HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g User guides, as well as this guide, Printing From a Memory Card or USB Flash Drive. This printer only supports printing from SD cards.
In order to transfer the files to your computer, you will need an SD Card reader for your computer.
Hope this clears things up for you, and have a good day!

Had a power surge on the printer due to a storm. Now the printer won't power up. Tried plugging it in a different electrical outlet, but it still won't power up. Is there a way to reset the internal power supply since I assume there is some type of surge protection on the printer?
    Thanks,

  • Officejet pro 8600 plus e-all-in-one color managment problem.

please help, I'm a photographer and I own officejet pro 8600 plus e-all-in-one printer. I want to print my photos using this printer, but it never print them right, so I bought Colormunki photo to calibrate my monitor and my printer and match them together. The problem is I can't control the printer color management  !!! I want to disable it, so I can use the printer profile in Photoshop or other applications to get the right prints. my prints are darker when I set the color management to be handled by the application, or I make the printer handle it but I will end up with wrong colors. I really really need to change the profile of the printer. how ?????? otherwise I really have no use of it in my work.

    Jassim,
Kudos to you for figuring out how to better control the outcome for what you require.
I have learned something new today.  Smiling!
Did you create the new profile manually or add it in from a previously saved setting?  Filename / filetype?
It has been a while since I used Photoshop.  I am thinking I may take another look at my old favorite.

Do you have an shapfish.com account?
If this is the case let's merge the 2,
"Do you have another HP account in existence?  Normally when someone has this
issue, they have an existing Snapfish HP account.
    1. Go to www.snapfish.com and click on ""log in"" at the top right.
    2. On the splash screen that comes up click on the ""forgot your password""
    link and submit your email.
    3. You should receive an email with a link and a temporary password.4. Click on the link and log in with the temp password.
    5. Change your password to something that has at least 6 characters (at least 1 of those should be a number).
    6. Go back to www.eprintcenter.com and click on Sign In.
    7. On the next screen do not put your email or password, but click on the
    small Snapfish below.
    8. On the splash screen that comes up log in with your email and the password
you just created at Snapfish. This will merge your HP accounts and you should be able to log in to www.eprintcenter.com normally after that."

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One - terrible print & scan options

I just purchased an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One an the print options look like they were written by someone from the 1990s.  There are no options for lower resolution - only draft, normal, best and no option for black and white - other than grayscale.  The print options box is the default box that was originally develped in the 1990s - no kidding.  I also tried scanning some items and the box to see the scan is about 5" x 5" and there is absolutely no way possible to see what was scanned.  I originally loaded the software using the disk provided witih the printer, but then I went on line and downloaded the "Full" version - which loaded exactly what was on the disk.  I can not believe HP is even selling this thing with these types of drivers.  I loaded the drivers onto my HP Desktop, running Windows 7 home, 64 bit and my HP laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit.  Both HP computers are Intel I7 Quad core computers w/ 9 & 12 Gb of RAM respectively.
What gives?  Do I need to return this thing because it certainly does not work properly and is not up to the HP standard we expect - especially for the $300 it costs to buy the thing.  I bought this all in one because HP refuses to update the drivers of my older HP scanner to support Windows 7.  That scanner showed the preview with a full screen, allowed me to change resolutions of scans, colors, etc.
Has anyone else experienced this type of garbage?

I agree the HP customer services and product services suck. I have an Officejet Pro 8500 and consistently had problems.
I think I'll change to a Cannon printer or another company. It is apparent that HP does not care.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 plus e-all-in-one N-911g App Connection Error

    Windows 8.1 Update

"Connection Error:  The printer was unable to connet to the server.  Check your internet connection and try again."   I get this message when touching the "Apps" Icon on the printer touch screen.
"Problem with printer"  Displayed on the HP Connected website under Devices.
I have tried every solution offered here to no avail including resetting the IP address for wireless on IPv4 - primary to read 8.8.8.8. and secondary to read 8.8.4.4.  I didn't  pull the power plug then replug, power on and set printer to default settings.   Would that fix everything?
Every function works; I can print wirelessly, print out to my eprint address and print from other devices on my network, but I get the above error message everytime I hit the "App" icon on the printer touch screen.  I even get the Crossword Puzzle daily from eprint.

komt fout melding (pompmotor afgeslagen druk op ok ) ok druken helpt niet alstub. help me

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue with the pump motor stall. I would suggest doing a hard reset.
You can also follow this document for the issue you're having.
Also, can you access the main menu (copy, scan and fax) on the printer?
    Hard Reset:
Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall
    Take out the toner/cartridges
    Wait 30 sec
Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall (Make sure the printer is plugged into the wall and not a surge protector)
Insert the toner/cartridges back into the printer

does anyone know a way I can find this info out please?

Touch the front panel and use the back arrow if needed to get to the home screen.  Next touch the four ink droplets at the top right of the screen, then touch "Print Report".    Items 12-14 will be the total pages, color pages and borderless pages printed.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus says ink is empty when it is not

Each time I have to change one cartridge on the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus I check how full the other cartridges are.  Typically the yellow one is 75% full and the other colours about 50%.
So I buy and install one cartridge.  It doesn't matter if it is a black one or a colour one.  I replace it with a genuine HP cartridge.  That goes fine and comes up as now being full.  But immediatly after this it tells me the other cartridges need to be replaced too.   I go through all imaginable fixes (including a hard reset of course) but nothing changes - it still insists that the other cartridges are also empty.  Of course it now won't print (unless I want to print in black only).
This means that every time I have to replace one cartridge I end up replacing all four.  So now I have a stack of old cartridges that are at least half full but cannot be used  - what a waste of money!    How did HP design a printer like this?

    Hello,
Understand that you  are facing with replacing cartridge even though they still have ink.
Let me direct you this troubleshooting guide to clean the cartridge contact.

  • PDF from Google Apps gmail/gdrive by Cloudprinter failed on HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One

    Dear forum contributors,
    1. HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One
    2. Linux OpenSuSE 12.2 64-bit
    3. Failed , after the failed message is a very long URL to my gmail attachment.
    4. This issue occured from the beginning, I have this printer only for one week.
When I print different kinds of PDF's from Google Apps (gmail and gdrive) by Google Cloudprinter I got a failed message at the HP eprinter Recent Print Jobs list.
Other prints from Google Cloudprinter, for example a webpage or a Google Docs document (not PDF) is working fine.
Also sending the same PDF's directly to my @hpeprinter.com e-mail address is working fine.
Is this a problem by Google Cloudprinter or HP e-print? How to solve the problem?
    Thanks for helping,
    Jurjen

After much research, I was unable to obtain a direct answer for two reasons: HP doesn't support Linux or Cloud Print beyond initial setup.  I was not very satisfied with this answer as I knew you would not really be either so I found some links and this may be the last I can provide any assistance here due to the two reasons above.  These links cover everything and should provide for you additional links to all of your questions I believe.
--Serving a Printer to Google Cloud Print from Linux--
    --Google Cloud Print on Linux--
--Installing Google Cloud Print on a Linux Server--
Otherwise, if ePrint is not working within the apps using a Windows-based computer I am more than happy to assist you.  You may continue to get support here from other community members regarding Linux but I may not be of much assistance.  I can say the first place to check is www.eprintcenter.com and see what the error messages say there under the print history, cancel any pending print jobs and try again.  Keep me posted on any additional information you may want to add regarding a Windows PC, otherwise I should direct you over to some great support provided by Google Cloud. Linux is suppose to work with these functions so I will leave you with this final excerpt from a Cloud Print Help site:
"Why is my document not printing?
    1. Make sure your Google Cloud Print connector is running on a computer with Mac, Windows, or Linux.
    2. If you're using Windows XP, make sure you also have the Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed.
    3. Confirm that the computer connected to your printer is powered on and that you are logged in."
This printer should support this feature so to make sure, you can log into www.eprintcenter.com and select ePrint Settings under the customized email address on this page and ensure you have Print Services ON.  I wish I could be of more assistance however.  I strongly recommend contacting the manufacturer of the apps you are having the problem with as these functions work when you use them like ePrint was intended (via email and mobile devices).  Good Luck!
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.
