HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 and 8600

Printer locks up after 15 min. when it goes into sleep mode. Only way to reset it and be able to use it is to unplug and plug it
back in. Power switch won't even turn it off when this happens. Has latest firmware in it. Have tried straight into outlet and
not through a surge strip. Does not matter. HP needs to change the firmware so it never goes to sleep. Wired and wireless
does not matter. It just stops working if it was sitting for 15 min. with no use. I also have a 8600 that does the same thing.
Once sleeping it even drops off the network.

Hi there @waterheater
Welcome to the forums!
I have read through your post about your printer locking up after 15 minutes of being in sleep mode, and the only way to "unlock" it is to restart the printer by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
As you have explained that you have tried the troubleshooting steps, which would be to plug the unit it directly to a wall outlet and update the firmware, I would currently suggest giving us a call to see what your printer options are. You are most likely going to need a replacement unit or new printer and HP will have that information when you call.

Trying to setup new printer to print wirelessly.  Printer and laptop are both connected to the same wireless device but the laptop cant find the printer.  Disabled firewall and tried all the things listed under troubleshooting.  Any help would be appreciated

It could be that the 'same wireless device' you mentioned in your post is preventing the communication.  Some routers segment the network and isolate clients.  It the device you are using is doing that the laptop will not see the printer.   If you reply back please give us the brand and model of the wireless device you are using to connect the printer to the laptop.
You could try the Print and Scan Doctor. It might be able to check the laptop for settings that get in the way.

    I am running 64bit Windows 8.1
I can print from Web via email
I can print using the HP AiO Remote app in windows. This doesnt have full functionality and is also inconvenient if I am working on documents and I want to print.
    I have tried the following:
    - Uninstalling and reinstalling from CD provided with printer
    - Using the HP printer troubleshooter assistant, no success
    - Downloading the software direct from HP website
    - Updating the firmware using OJP8610_R1416A.exe
-Changing the port to the network port (in this case it is 192.168.0.200, it responds to a ping, also set the printer to have a static ip)
This is the error message that i get when i try to print a test page when i choose printer properties in the control panel

  • HP Officejet pro 8610 scan to computer OSX 10.10

    Dear all,
I've just bought a HP Officejet pro 8610 and it prints like a charm. I can't however scan to my computer. According to the manual I have to activate the scan to computer function in the utility program but I have no such option. Am I missing something? It works fine on my dads windows 8.1 laptop.
    With kind regards,
    Anthony

    Hi charlene025,
    Thank you again for responding!
It sounds like there is a driver conflict on your computer, especially since it is showing an older printer. I am going to recommend the following:
Uninstall the printer software. Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Reset the printing system. OS X Yosemite: Reset the printing system.
Verify and repair disk permissions.  Disk Utility 12.x: Repair disk permissions.
    Reboot the computer.
Reinstall the software from this website. HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Once these steps are completed try and re-enable the scan to computer function again.
    Hope this works!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8610 setup issues Is there a problem using a MIFI?

I just bought this HP Officejet Pro.  After trying all day yesterday with your support team, it was suggested I take it back to the store.  I did and have purchase another HP Officejet Pro 8610 and am having the same problems. The on button goes to sleep but I cannot push for it to wake, I must unplug it.  In addition, I cannot get it to recognize the computer to scan unless I have it connected to the commputer so it can't be wireless.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8610 setup ink cartridges not recognized

I just purchased an HP Officejet Pro 8610, and was following the setup on the printer, installed the ink cartridges as shown in the "movie" guide, and the printer seems to not recognize that I have installed the 4 ink cartridges. They are the 4 cartridges that came with the printer.

    @jaycka
    Welcome to the forums!
I have some of my own ideas that might help the printer recognize the ink cartridges.
    Try this:
    Removing the ink cartridges.
    Unplug the printer.
Dampen a lint free cloth or cotton swab with bottled water.
Gently cleaning off the electrical contacts from the cartridges.
Wait for the contacts to dry.
Plug the printer back in and wait for the printer setup on the display to ask you to insert the cartidges and hopefully they'll be recognized.
If not, call HP directly to inquire about a replacement.

  • No print from Windows 7 Desktop and Officejet Pro 8610

I purchased and installed a new Officejet Pro 8610 about a month ago.  My desktop computer is an HP Windows 7 unit.  The printer is setup wireless. Up until a few days ago, everything has run fine, but now I cannot print anything from my desktop computer.  Printing from my MacBook laptop works fine.  Printing from my iphone is fine.  Scanning to the desktop computer is fine.  Webprinting is fine.  The printer icon has a nice green checkmark in the devices folder. I have run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which claims to fix a port issue, but does not resolve the problem. I have use windows to troubleshoot the connection, which claims to make the printer available to my homegroup, but it does not resolve the problem. I tried changing the security settings for the spooler.  Did not resolve the problem. I cannot manually stop and star the spooler via dos prompt.  Says system 5 error, access denied. This is maddening.  I got rid of my old printer (which reliably printed from the desktop) so that I could have wireless printing capability, and now I have wireless capability but cannot print from my desktop.  Aaaaggghhhhhh!!!!

Hey , Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue. At this time I am going to have you load an alternate Officejet driver on your product. Because the network connection is fine, and scanning is still fine I do not believe that the issue that you're experiencing is connectivity or software related. This alternate driver I am going to have you load will operate the exact same way as the Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer driver. Therefore, you will not lose any functionality by performing this fix. Please try the steps below.  Step 1: Clear Temp Files: Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start after you click on it, type %temp% and hit enter on your keyboard
When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.
Close the Temp folder once it is emptied
Right click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling BinPlease proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Load Alternate Driver: Please click here to download the Officejet driver Once the download is complete you may get a prompt to Run the download. If you see the Run prompt, please allow it to Run.An extraction should now occur. Once the extraction is complete an installation window may pop open. Please close any install windows. You do not want to run an installation. Next, click on your Start menu. In the 'search programs and files' box type %temp% and hit enter on your keyboardWhen the Temp folder opens locate the 7z folder. Click on this folder to open it. It should include files that say OJ860At the top of this folder you will see a file path bar. It may show something like 'Computer- Local Disk C - Users - AppData - Local - Temp - 7z . . . ' Left click on the right hand side of this file path bar at the top. The file path should now highlight.Right click on the highlighted file path and select CopyClose the Temp folderClick on your Start menuSelect Devices and PrintersRight click on you HP Officejet 8610 Left click on Printer PropertiesLeft click on the Advanced tabLeft click on New DriverWhen the New Driver window opens please hit 'Next' until you see a list of Manufacturers and Printers Click on the 'Have Disk' button on the bottom rightWhen the 'Install from Disk' window opens, simply right click on the file path bar and 'Paste' in the file path we previously copied.Click OKWhen prompted choose the HP Officejet 8600 Printer and click 'Next' until the Add Driver window closesUnder Printer Properties select Apply, but don't hit OKSelect the General tabRename your printer back to HP Officejet Pro 8610 Hit OK Now that the alternate Officejet driver has been loaded, please test printing to confirm if the printing issue has been resolved.  Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your printing issue. Good luck!

  • Hp officejet pro 8610 | does not print and cannot connect it wireless

Just bought the following printer: Officejet Pro 8610. Installed it with the cd. Installation on the printer goes well, connected to network, strong reception. 1) Cannot make a wireless connection from laptop to printer. Followed all the steps, uninstalled and reinstalled with software from hp site 7 hours worth. Router on/off, firewall on/off etc. 2) Installed not wireless but with a usb cable, this can be done however scanner and copier work but no pinting. Testprint also doesn't work, the internal test print does. Scan doctor said that it was a software problem that could not be solved by said doctor and to uninstall and reinstall the software. Freaking sick of doing that as it does not work. Also installed the basic driver to see if this works, same story, no printing. Laptop is from 2007 with windows XP. I really need to print for work and cannot spend another full day troubleshooting this monster. Either wireless or with usb cable, i dont care....... Please help!!! Thank you Mar

  • Hp officejet pro 8610 prints solid black on scanned pdf and word doc pictures

    -HP Officejet Pro 8610
-problem printing scanned pdf document and word doc. photos
-My new HP Officejet Pro 8610 printed a newly scanned pdf document as an all black picture. I then printed a saved word documtent from my iMac which included a small picture. The document print was acceptable, but the picture was solid black. There were no error messages. These were, my initial tests, to check this new printer.

    Hey there @TM-10
    Welcome to the Community
I read through your post about your new Officejet 8610 scanning a document to your computer and printing out all black. I have a couple ideas for you to try.
Try the steps in this guide: Unexpected Scan Output Using HP Scan Application for HP Multifunction Printers When Using OS X v10.9...
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help.
    Good luck

  • Officejet Pro 8610 - Can't connect to wireless network (and has similar issue with previous printer)

When I returned from a trip, I was unable to connect to my trusty HP All-in-one 7510 that I had on my network for three years.  I tried troubleshooting it, reinstalling the software on numerous computers, and fixing the printer, but alas the printer said that it was connected to the network, and none of my computers wanted to find it anymore.
Then I bought my new Officejet Pro 8610 this week, set it up...and I am experiencing the same issue.  I tried using the link and support took from this post - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Officejet-Pro-8610-Can-t-connect-to-wi... but the printer was unable to be found on the network.

  • HP officejet pro 8610 won't accept remanufactured generic ink.

My NEW HP Officejet Pro 8610 Printer will not accept my generic remanufactured ink cartridges.
My previous printer did "HP OfficeJet Pro 8600" accepted these remanufactured generic ink cartridges but the feed rollers were giving out after 16 months, so I bought another printer from HP. There were no 8600's to be found, so I looked into the 8610 and saw that it accepted the ink I had been using in the past "HP OfficeJet 951", and since I had many remaining remanufactured ink cartridges still remaining, I opted to purchase this new one. This is an earlier model, but very simiilar.
Now this printer is not accepting the ink at all. All these prompts I am getting. With the 8600 I got prompts also, but then it worked, but here it will not work and says:
"One or more cartridges appears to be damaged. Remove them and replace with new cartridges".
I have put in (3 total) two different times, and the previously unopened cartridges are rejected.
The newer model, the 8600 accepted them eventually, but the older model, the 8610 will not.
Is there anyone out here who has any helpful assistance?
Otherwise, I am just going to have to return this for an entire refund for this and my 2 year extended warranty.
    Thank you.
    steveman99

    I am sorry. I guess I wasn't clear.
the printer had just exhausted all 3 color hp ink cartridges one after another. The same time.
it only rejected the remanufactured ink cartridges when they were first introduced to the 8610. And these never gave me any trouble with my previous 8600. Please reread my post you responded to adafafter you read this to refresh your memory because this is where myfrustrations lie. Why on my 8600 printer do they work. Yet the 8610, the older model, and my newly purchased printer rejects those remanufactured cartridges???
    Thank you.

  • Can I use Replacement Printer ink cartridges for HP officejet Pro 8610

I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. I previously had an 8600. They both use the same ink cartridges. I had just installed some remanufactured 950 XL and 951 XL cartridges in the old printer and tried to use them in the new printer. Of course I got an error message that cartridges weren't HP but the printer would still work. I would like to know if I can use other remanufactured ink cartridges with the new printer or if there is some way for the printer to allow me to use other ink cartridges as the HP cartridges are way over priced for the consumers. I hope there is a person out there that is conservative like me and tries to find the best bargains on everything. Your solutions would be appreciated. I waited on HP Support Assistant for 10 minutes with a dialogue I would be connected to a technician in less than a minute. They must have been on break or some other excuse, so I thought I would try this instead. Blessings. John Richardson

    Hey @rockhoundjohn
Here's the thing, yes, you can refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems.
QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. remanufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.
Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely
70% of refilled cartridges had some form of reliability problem
Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing. You may think you're saving money on remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference.  - Source
Most people think, 'well of course that is what HP or an HP representative would say', but I have done some research and found that many others have too. Here is a perfect example of somebody who does not work for HP in any way and basically is a customer advocate (in my opinion) ; Should you refill your printer’s ink cartridges? HP says no (of course) By Matthew Murray
I found the above article interesting and genuine.
My personal recommendation is to buy the HP XL cartridges as they are more cost efficient, and be mindful in the printer you choose when buying an inkjet. The 8610 was a good choice. The expected page yield of the HP 950XL High Yield Black Original Ink Cartridge is 2300 pages. The regular size cartridge page yield is 1000, still good but the XL is by far a better value. Some of the Photosmart printers or Deskjets are great for what they are intended for, but do not have as good of a cost per page.
HP's recommendation; Keep in mind that page yield is just one component of cost, and that factors such as quality, reliability, productivity, and efficiency affect cost as well. Products that work reliably will ultimately save you time and money. When you choose an inkjet printer, make sure you consider your individual printing needs.
    - Source
To summarize, again, yes you can refill the cartridges. The printer is not programmed to reject them. Sometimes the cartridges will not work and of course because they are non HP, HP would not be able to do anything to help. HP cartridges have a 2 year manufacture warranty; Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges and Customer-Replaceable Printheads for HP Inkjet Supplies, this may give you comfort knowing HP stand behind their product.

  • Installing Officejet Pro 8610 on Windows Server 2008 R2

I am trying to install an HP officejet Pro 8610 in a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine.
As an FYI the server aleady has an Officejet Pro 8600 installed on it
I ran the setup.exe from the install CD, as an administrator
The first window appears and I clikc continue
The next window appears and I select connect a new printer
At the Connection options window, I selected Wired network and it displays the correct printer
I slect the printer and click next and the installation starts and runs for about a minute that displays the following message
The printer works fine from another PC which is running windows 7 (64-bit)  So I know the problem is not in the printer or the network.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated
    Thanks in advance

Server 2008 (x86) is supported, and I had an x64 machine set up last month that had FP12 installed and running in IE and Firefox. 64 bit IE wouldn't run it for some reason, but the 32 bit did. It installed in C/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash and C/Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed/Flash, but I was unable to get the ActiveX plug-in to enable outside of 32 bit IE.
I also set up a Server 2012 machine that DID support the x64 ActiveX, but that's probably not an option for you.
Like you, I'd be leery of "hacks" to get it to run as an x64 pkug-in, as it may have unintended and undesired consequences in other areas.
