Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03015537.pdf
The available fan/heatsink combos with HP part numbers can be found in chapter 3, on page 27.
In order to get the right one you need to know what hardware is installed in your PC.
Since it is a CTO (configured to order), there are no product specs available.
So it is incumbent upon you to know for example if your notebook has an Intel processor and a graphics
subsystem with 2048-MB discrete memory.
Once you determine the right part number you need, you can order it online at the link below.
http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Default.aspx?mscssid=2DE434CEF5B743168A44405770DB2EA5
If you want a second opinion on if you are choosing the right part, I will be happy to help once you describe the specs for your PC.

You can find a new replacement fan on eBay. Take a look here: http://bit.ly/18Guc5W In a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop the cooling fan mounted UNDER the motherboard. You'll have to remove it in order to remove and replace the fan. Here's how to disassemble HP pavilion dv6 laptop and remove the motherboard.

• HP pavilion dv6 fan not working

My HP PAVILIONDV6T-6100 laptop (Product no. LM720AV) is having problems with the cooling fan and overheating. I have started getting the cooling fan not functioning error at startup. When I use the laptop-the cooling fan runs almost all the time. It turns-off when I have only one application running on the laptop.
I understand that since the fan is running perfectly fine, the fan motor is still functional. Could it be dust accumulation that is causing the error and fan running continuously? Where can I get the insturctions for opening the cooling fan assembly and cleaning it? Also will I need to replace the thermal insulation after cleaning?
Thanks
Sunny

I paid $30,000 for my car but I trust the dealer to work on it because I know their mechanics do it every day. I could watch youtube videos and figure out how to do a tuneup but they will do it better. I will change my own air filter however since it is not too hard and will save money. Replacing a cooling fan is more like a tuneup than replacing an air filter. Still, you can do it if you follow the Manual and are careful. Here is the Manual:

I would go ahead and run all the diagnostic tests you can access by tapping F2 and entering UEFI Diagnostics. Other than the fan what other problems are you having?

thank you

Hello @Sam0789,
Welcome to the hp support forum and thank you for posting. It sounds like from what your post states, that the system runs fine with the battery out but as soon as the battery is in the unit it goes unstable and heats up when connected to the charging system.
Here are some things you may try in the following links.
Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 7)
HP Notebook PCs - Checking the Status of the Battery
Now if the battery is getting hot to the touch when plugged in I would not be using it until you can have it tested.
There could be a problem with the charging system in the battery that controls the voltage.
There is normally no reason for the system to heat up while on battery like that. What I would do is call phone support and have them check it out. Another option is to try another battery to see if the same problem happens.
If that is the case the notebooks voltage control is out of spec and needs replacing. If a different battery causes no problem then we know it is the battery.

• Pavilion DV7 fan problems

I was using my Hp pavilion dv7 notebook earlier today, when the screen suddenly went dark and the wireless card led and sound led turned orange, then my laptop shut off. I unplugged everything and flipped it over and there was a strange smell coming out of the fan vent. Anyone know what's happening or a fix for this?

• HP pavilion dv7 fan problems

Hello all,
I have a hp pavilion dv7 laptop computer and my fan is really loud now. Almost sounds like its straining or making contact with something. It is of course annoying and im sure not good for the computer, any ideas how to fix? I want to try and clean the fan blades but i have no idea how to take apart this rubix cube of a computer and get to the fans. I have taken what seems like all the screws out and could still not figure out how to get to the fan.

• Pavilion dv6 microphone problem

Hi,
I plug my microphone in my Pavilion dv6 but I can't hear anything from my microphone. My microphone works perfectly in my other computers. My operating system is windows 7 home premium. Could you please help me?
Thanks a lot

First, I would like to clarify the scenario some. You state "few month ago days ago" and the motherboard was changed. Was the motherboard changed a few months ago and the microphone stopped working a few days ago or do you mean that the motherboard was changed just a few days ago and the microphone hasn't worked since then?
According to this, the unit came with FreeDOS as the operating system. Is it still using FreeDOS or was it changed to a version of Windows? If so, what is the current version of Windows installed?

Hi,
Many parts do not have part number, because they come with other parts as a set, you have to order the whole set. If not in the book, you can't find it elsewhere.
Hope this makes sense.

• Pavilion dv6 6150eb problem

Hey all,
i have a little weird but annoying problem.
I own this laptop for 3 months now and so far i haven't had any problem, but now when i'm working on it or playing games (with my adapter for power connected) my vent makes a hell alot of noise and my keyboard shakes a bit. Is this normal or do you guys have suggestions or maybe bring it back?

Hi Me53B,
You are correct it could be a hardware issue. I wanted to try and eliminate the software aspect first because the notebook does seem to make the connection when the computer is off. I have included two links below that will show you how to test the hardware for failures.

• Pavilion dv6 - fan noise

I recently purchased a dv6 A7N50EA and I'm finding the fan is coming on rather frequently, making quite a lot of annoying noise. It seems to happen more when I'm watching video so I wonder whether there's a fan on the video card (the laptop has a separate Radeon graphics card); if so is it normal to make so much noise?

Have you cleaned the fan lately?
