HP Pavilion dv6 - replacement a WiFi module

Hello!
I have a dv6-6b55er model of notebook (product No: A2Y97EA, rev.17F9-110). Some time ago I bought a new WiFi access point which support a 5GHz-band (standards 802.11a/an/b/g/n). But WiFi-module in my notebook is not support this band (WiFi-module based on Broadcom 4313 chip - 2,4GHz band only). My friend gave me a module with support 802.11a (based on Intel-chip). When I installed this module and turned on my notebook - I saw a message that "these notebook is not support these installed module" and not loading  Windows...
So I have a question to You: which miniPCI-E WiFi-modules with 5GHz-band are supported by my notebook? If such modules are exist for my model of notebook...
Thank You!

I'm sorry - I have bad English, but I understood you. So you want to say that is not the fact that the module I bought somewhere on e-bay or Ali will work in my notebook? Yes, I understand that I can get a fake - it's probably to be some identifier for notebook in this module... But it is better to err on the $ 13 than 45...
And about witelist and USB-dongle - it's something interesting... Even such verification exists? And why needs all this...
I just want to start using the 5GHz band due to the fact that the range of 2.4 GHz is very very busy in our location. If the new module will support N-standard (at least until 150-200Mbps) - it will be very good for me.

  • Wifi issue w/ HP Pavilion DV6

I've owned an HP Pavilion DV6 1030us for a couple of months now.  Wifi issues didn't start showing up until a week after I purchased my laptop.  I found out that there's a problem with the motherboard and sent in my laptop to HP for a repair, but when it came back a week later, it was still in the same condition as it was when I sent it.  HP sent back a paper that confirmed that they had "repaired" my laptop, but all the problems I've had are still present.
Anyways, I'm just curious as to what I should do at this point... my warranty hasn't expired yet, so should I sent it back in for repair?  I don't want to wait another week if everything is still going to be the same... school has already started... so any suggestions?
EDIT: Sorry this is in the wrong section...

    Hi,
It's always worth trying a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see start the notebook.

  • [HELP] HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa fan - abnormal whirring and grinding noises even after replacement

    Product:     HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa
    Operating system:    Windows 7 64bit
    BIOS version:   F.1 C  (current)   01-2013
My laptop fan started making a very loud grinding and whirring noise constantly (very loud, easily heard in other rooms from the laptop) and after cleaning out with compressed air with no improvement I decided to get the fan replaced as it was clearly worn out in some way. (This laptop fan has always been loud, but never making this sort of grinding sound).
Replacement fan was ordered directly from HP and installed. However, while the noise is much quieter, the fan is still making a constant sort of whirring/very low grinding noise which gets louder and changes pitch whenever the fan kicks up to a higher speed.  While the laptop is now at least useable, this noise is still annoying after being on for a long time and I did not expect it to still have the same problem after fully replacing the fan.
Since then I have looked online for solutions and similar problems, having since flashed the BIOS to the latest version, checked both the hard drive and memory in the BIOS (both proved fine)  and tried switching between having the fan mode set to always on or not always on in the BIOS and messing around with HP coolsense. None of these have helped remove this constant whirring sound.
Now this laptop fan has always been loud. That I am ok with, I know the sound of a loud, yet working fan drawing air, but this is not the same sound. The fan is still drawing air sufficiently and keeping the system temperature down to an acceptable level, but this constant whirring noise is annoying when having to work on the laptop.
    [In Summary]
-HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa  Laptop fan had loud whirring/grinding noise
    -Fan was replaced
-Noise reduced and grinding somewhat gone, but whirring and some grinding remains even with the new fan from HP
Any help would be great, I have tried to include as much information regarding the problem as I can but if there is anything else needed dont hesitate to ask and I can try to provide such information as required.
    Michal.

Also, when the fan is running at higher speeds the whirring/grinding noise is quieter and less noticable than when it is running at very low speeds... When running at very very high speeds (while playing games)  the fan sounds almost the same as my old one when it was still working, and at high speeds its more a whirring humm... Then at lower speeds it goes back to a more low whirring/grinding.
Not sure if this helps but its just something I've noticed...  Any help with this problem?

  • Blue tinted screen, menory problems, underperforming battery - 5 day old HP pavilion dv6-6005sa

I bought a new HP Pavilion dv6-6005sa 15.6" Laptop - Linen White on 14/06/11 from Currys digital, Arndale Centre, Manchester. The laptop is less than 1 week old.
The screen is a frost blue colour from the second I turn it on to the second it is turned off. Weirdly I can see the entire screen, just that everything is blue!! Does anybody know how this can happen??? When I move the screen it flickers from normal to this blue thing. A loose connection maybe?
I am unhappy as I got to send it back to the shop for a under 21 days replacement involving an expensive airmail delivery :@ The alternative would be a 3 week investigation in the lab which I cant be bothered with!
Has anybody else experienced this phenomenon with a HP laptop screen? I also am beginning to experience memory problems and the usb prots are on the blink. I have looked after it very well, it has just been sat on a desk for 5 days! Can anybody explain me this phenomenon and if it is a comon problem with HP laptops?
Now for the next problem as if a faulty screen and memory cache wouldnt be enough! The battery:
The battery specs are as follows:
    Lithium-Ion 6-cell battery
    'upto 7.5 hours battery life'
The battery is advertised to perform 'upto 7.5 hours' however I get maximum 4.5 hours doing absolutely nothing on power saver mode with the laptop with it just sitting there idle on a desk. At the same time I also had wireless and bluetooth off; screen brightness set to 0%, maximum processing chip power reduced to 20%; battery saver mode active; all major applications closed).
I get maximum 2-3 hours doing basic tasks with it such as word processing. Gaming I get maximum 1.5 hours.
The battery checker displays the following:
    Status: Ok (0)
    warrenty type: 1 year
    cycle count 0
    manufacturer: 13-42
    battery age 136 days
    serial number: 12587 02/01/2011

    Cell Voltage 3: 4177 mV
    Cell Voltage 4: 0 mV
    Status: 0
    AC Power: True
    CT Number: N\A
I have highlighted in bold the things I thing are suspicious. I feel the results are those of a malfunctioning battery. Could anybody tell me if I am correct withmy assumptions?
As I am no expert coes anybody reading this think these results are normal for a new battery and can you provide me some insight to wether my battery might be faulty or not?
Basically I think at least one of the 6 cells inside the battery are malfunctioning.

Go to Power Options in the Control panel and select the  Power Saver option. Do not choose balanced. Then run your battery capacity tests again. Hopefully the new setting will improve the time that you get.

  • Ssd compatability Pavilion dv6-3118sa

I have a Pavilion DV6-3118sa laptop and the hard drive has died without warning. I am trying to find out if I can take this oportunity to replace the failed drive with an SSD.
Does anyone know if the machine is compatable with SSD's . I'd like to replace with an SSD of the same size as the original HDD (500GB).
Any help would be much appreciated as there is no useful info in the HP support area of their site.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Thank you for your reply. I suspected as much but it would be good if there was something somewhere that listed compatible or non-compatable devices for SSD's.
I know it could be a lonk list, but I'd prefer if someone "in the know" sayts so, especially when the cost of an SSD is so much.
The drive is for my wifes machine so I wanted to get the biggest drive I could, within a price range, ao she doesn't worry about running out of space.
I'm in England and got a 480GB Crucial drive from Scan for £220. More than I wanted to pay but it's done now. I closed my eyes when I clicked the buy button.
    Thanks again for your reply.

Hello agb505, welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're getting a black screen and flashing led's when try to start-up your notebook. I will try to assist you with  this.
I'd suggest starting with the following document:
Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps.
This will help you identify an error code if there is one and direct you in the actions to take for said code.

Here is the Manual...it is the same for the whole dv6 series:
    Manual
You can find the motherboard part number inside the memory slot under the modules. Laptop motherboard are one-off specific items...you have to get the exact HP motherboard for a replacement.
