HP Pavilion dv9720us laptop NO AUDIO even on System Recovery
HP paviliion dv9720us has no sound after system restore. I tried installing drivers available on the hp web site, the realtek installs but I still have a X on my sound panel at the bottom task bar. The Conexant claims that the device does not exist on my machine then does not continue setup. I have tried both version of the realtek drivers, and there are no settings in the bios or laptop function keys that are disabling the audio device. I even triend manually tracing through the drivers at update driver in device manager. Someone Please Help!!!
Thank You,
-Nathan

Hello nateb4s5. I understand you're having issues with your audio. Specifically that it isn't working at all. Is this correct?
What version of Windows are you using and is it 32- or 64-bit?
Do you currently have the Realtek drivers installed? If not you need to ensure that only those drivers are installed. Once they are installed and you can view the device in the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section of the Device Manager try the following.
Go to your Control Panel.
Select "Sound" from the list. You may have to select the "Hardware and Sound" category first and then select "Sound."
Once this windows pops up right click in the white space. Ensure that both "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconencted devices" are checked.
Right click on each listed device and ensure that it is Enabled.
After you have enabled all of the devices ensure that the speakers are set as the default device and save your changes.
Verify that your volume is not currently muted and then test the sound.
You may also want to take a look at this HP Support Document. It covers further troubleshooting issues involving not having any sound.
Make sure to post the results for me. I will be keeping an eye out for your reply. I hope you have a great day!

View Solution.Hi @Jaytee2 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows 7.
Here is a document on performing a system recovery on Windows 7.
Do you have the System disks for this Notebook?
I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Please let me know.
Thanks.

"Disk read error occurred" cannot even load System Recovery
Hello,
yesterday I powered on my computer, and it was almost froze, with only the mouse moving and even the task manager not showing up when called.
I first tried to make it go in standby, as I thought it was some program which didnt start as planned. After I closed the screen , the screen went black, but the pc continued to run. I then pressed the power button, shutting the system the hard way.
After that, I powered back the pc, which now only showed "Disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart" and obviously this wasnt the solution. I tried resetting the BIOS, then running the diagnostics on f2: it ALWAYS passes the test the first time, then if i try to run the diagnostics again, it says "NOT INSTALLED". I tried running the system recovery on f11, but the same "disk read error" appears.
I-ve already confirmed the problem lies in the hard disk itself {hitachi 750gb}, having plugged it in another notebook with an hitachi hard disk and still showing the same problem, while the other hard disk booted just fine in my HP.
I tried with a win7 cd, both recovering and installing a new version, but they both kept frozen for about 1 hour and did nothing.
I then made a bootable USB with Trinity Recovery Kit and after a quick diagnostic, it said boot partition has "unclean" windows files and tried fixing the problem, without success. I-m now writing from a bootable USB linux distro, because i cannot find a bootable iso oh hitachi recovery program, what should I do?
Is it possible the hard disk failed so bad for an uncommon closure of the system? It looks to me like some data got corrupted.
Please help me, as I-m an academy student and I use the PC for almost everything.
Thank you.I-ve booted Boot Repair 64bit and tried repairing the boot section... i even checked the boot infos and printed an info file, can someone answer what the actual FOG is happening here?

Fully uninstall/remove beats audio from hp pavilion x360 laptop
Hi everyone. How can I revmove the beats audio (btw. HP, I do like your products and buy them more then any other computer products, but seriously, how can you install so much trashware on a light laptop... oh well). I have seen a few guides but they all mention the IDT under device options or something similar. THERE IS NO IDT UNDER DECIVES (Under sound, video and game controlles). There is only .cyber link webcam cirtual driver, .intel(R) display audio .Realtek high definition audio There is still a Beats audio in my sys tray, in the controll pannel and it still craps up (sry for the language) my audio. I have advanced uninstaller 11 installed but it can find neither beats audio nor anything with IDT. How can I remove this from my laptop? The laptop is an HP pavilion x360 11-n013na. Cheers. EDIT: P.S I would like to remove it completely. I.E. do a clean uninstall, but if I can only disable it, that would still be better then nothing.
, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums. The only way to remove the Beats audio from your system is to not use that system. Beats is built in as an integration to the IDP audio system and can not be removed. Thanks for the post and have a great day.

Weak Beats Audio sound from Pavilion X2 Laptop
I purchased a 11" Pavilion x2 Laptop/Tablet for Christmas and believe I am having trouble with the Beats Audio. The sound coming from the computer speakers is so weak as to be useless and all of the settings will not get the sound loud enough to hear unless you put your ear within 4-6 inches of the screen. However the sound from the earphones is great, loud and adjustable. I have performed all updates from Microsoft and HP and followed all troubleshooting steps suggested by HP Web Site. Any ideas or do I just need to return it.
Hello dontom,
For not being able to hear very well from the 11" Pavilion x2, I would like to confirm the troubleshooting steps that you have completed. I have you completed all the steps in this document 'No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8)'? Are you using any special software, or just the volume icon in the system tray? Does it play the same level of audio for all programs and files? (ie. Netflix, YouTube, or music).
Please also let me know the full model number of your X2. I have included the document 'Guide to finding your product number'.
Thank you.

Error '' No Audio Output Device is installed '' on my hp pavilion 9502au laptop ?
Hello ,
It happened yesterday while watching a movie in VLC player ... It closed the lid of my laptop and my laptop went into standby ....
Then I tried to open the laptop through pressing power button or mouse button. It didnt start. I had to remove the battery and my laptop started , but i noticed a red x on my sound icon. when i took my pointer there , it stated '' No Audio Output Device is installed ''..
Till now , I SWITCHED MY WINDOWS FROM X64 TO 32 BIT , DEVICE MANAGER SHOWS NO sound , video , controllers... manually installing a hardware display all devices of conexant but not mine.. all are video capture.... registry entries are ok , but no sound related registry .... windows services are ok.... drivers are not installing , as they cannot find the devices .. moreover BIOS is up-to-date.....
GUYS , ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED....
This question was solved.
View Solution.Missing completely from device manager on an integrated component typically indicates a hardware issue. It's not something that could have a loose connection as it is soldered onto the motherboard.
If you want to be absolutely 100% certain that it's not a software issue, you could perform a full HP system recovery back to factory conditions. That would confirm without any doubt whether it is a hardware or software issue, but it is more than likely a hardware failure based on the behavior.
However, what is the hardware ID of the base system device?
This can be retrieved by opening the device in device manager and navigating to the details tab and changing the property to hardware IDs. This should help identify exactly what the base system device is.

Open your Displays system preferences. Is there an Arrangement tab and does it show two screens? If no Arrangement tab then your mac does not know it has two screens. Maybe smc and pram reset will shake it free and maybe not. Maybe there's something wrong with the connection. Thunderbolt plugs are similar to mini-displayport plugs so make sure the plug is pushed firmly in so that essentially all the metal part disappears inside the socket. The plugs can be a little tricky in that you need to make sure the plug is fully seated in their socket.
If you do see two screens in the Arrangement tab then click Detect Displays and Gather Windows to get the Displays preferences of the other monitor on to your main monitor. Check the resolution and if there is a refresh rate check that as well. -
HP Pavilion G6 Laptop Stuck on 0%
Hello, I have recently encountered a major problem in charging my HP Pavilion G6 laptop. I had not been using my laptop for a week as I had been using it frequently beforehand. I charged it and when I booted it up it said it had 0% while it was still connected to the charger. I left to to charge for longer and even though it said it was charging, the laptop remained on 0% of power. It still works (Very slowly now), but if I remove the charger the laptop immediatly shuts down due to it displaying that I have 0% of charge. I assume the problem lies with the battery, but before I buy a new battery I'd just like to know if this problem can be explained and can it be solved with a more practical method? Thank you.
Hi there, glad you posted your question here before buying another battery. From what I've found, there are still a few steps you can try first
Please take a look through this whole guide, hopefully it'll help kickstart that battery and the connections back to life:

I am suffering the overheating issue in my HP Pavilion DV2000 laptop caused by NVIDIA GPU issue. When I go to the settlement site http://www.nvidiasettlement.com , I see that the last date of filing the claim expired which was 14th of March 2011. Is there any option remaining for the solution.
I want to get rid of this irritating overheating problem. Is there any option for replacement of NVIDIA GPU at my own cost even in some authorised service centre?

Faulty Hinge on HP pavilion M6 Laptop
My wife and I both got a Pavilion m6 laptop and both have the same issue with each one. The left hinge on her lap top the was $550 broke within a year, no damages were made to the laptop, it was well taken care of and it just slowly broke over time until it was all the sudden completely detached. It also caused damages to the screen. We weren't aware it even had a problem until the whole thing was all the sudden unattached. Then on my computer that was about $700+ after normal use and it being also well taken care of the same thing happens. The left hinge all the sudden is completely broken. This should not happen. A computer that is $500 and $700 should not have breaking hinges. We are very disatisfied with these computers for that reason and now we have to take much precaution just opening and closing them to make sure the problem doesn't get any worse. Is there anything that can be done about this problem that should not have happened?

Sound issues with a Pavilion dv7 laptop, please help!
Hi everyone!
I have the Pavilion dv7 laptop and LOVE IT! It's a great machine and has amazing features, especially some quality sound, when it works. I'm looking for some help with this problem. I can fire it up and have sound. And then the sound will cut our and when I go down to the volume and open up the sound properties, my speakers are missing and it says it's using an HP dock, which I don't even have. Sometimes, it will say that it's using headphones. But the option for my speakers does not show up.
I can reboot and sometimes that will help and it will fire back up with sound, sometimes not. I'm looking for suggestions on what to do to keep my sound from going out.
Thanks in advance!
-Sean :-)Likely the AC power jack has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Not sure why or how it can work if you remove ACPI support but the jack does have a pin that carries data to the motherboard and I suspect yours is bad. This is the part and what it looks like. It is a middle-difficulty replacement, at worst.

My HP Pavilion dv6 laptop wont turn on
My HP Pavilion dv6 laptop does not turn on. Problem with my laptop started couple weeks ago. At that time, when computer goes to sleep mode after inactive for some time, power light and led lights stays on but screen is black. I can not do anything else but to press power button for few second and force turn off. If I turn on computer right away then computer will have black screen and nothing happens. If I remove battery and wait for few minutes and connect the power cord directly to computer and turn on then it will turn on normally and work until it goes back to sleep again. But now, its not even turning on at all. So far I tried hard reset, plugged in to different monitor and RAM test but no luck. Again when I turn on, caps lock and num lock lights blink and fan turns on and power lights, volume lights and wifi lights stays on but nothing on screen. Thank you in advance for any help.

I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook and having issues with performance. Here is a link to computer will not start. I would start at the top and work my way down. Mine was fixed with reseating the HDD. Others have had it fixed with just reseating the Memory. Here is a video that shows you how to remove and reseat the HDD and memory. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. You could reset the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Which has helped others as it restores the default settings. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue. Please let me know how this goes. Thanks. -
Increase HDcapacity of hp pavilion dv5220us laptop
My laptop keeps restarting after I installed windows 7 and the Sound isint working either.
I want to Increase HDcapacity of hp pavilion dv5220us laptop from 120 GB to 500GB and the RAM to 2GB. Is it possible to do that and can I install windows 8. Recently a technician told me that it might not be possible to increase the HD capacity to 500 GB as it's an old laptop. I love this laptop and wanna fix it badlyIt IS old. Built about 2006. It does use SATA hard drives (current form) so you can install a 500 gig hard drive and it can take up to 2 gigs of DDR (original version) 667 memory. A 500 gig hard drive and 2 x 1 gig modules of memory are going to cost you about $125. I would not spend that kind of money on a machine of that age. It will not run Windows 8 to full effect because the video chip is too old. Even Vista and 7 are a stretch. It was made to run XP and that would be the best OS for it. If it reboots and the sound does not work, you might even need a new motherboard.
Save your money for a new laptop or at least one that can handle the modern internet environment.

HP Pavilion DV2000 Laptop makes continuous "none stop" loud whining noise.
HP Pavilion DV2000 laptop makes continuous "none stop" loud whining noise. This happens when the computer is on and only stops if it is shut off.
The noise is very frustrating and just never goes away.
I googled for clues and read that proplems with the processor power management, something to do with AMD but the explaination were not clear and I don't want to ruin the computer. Here is a link to what I read. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=192213
The sound is mainly coming from the left speaker area. So I disabled the sound card but the noise continues.
The fan appeares to be working well and no over heating.
Any clues as to how I can make this stop?
Thanks everyone.
AIThe fan is so loud that when I have people around me they always ask me what's wrong with my computer. I bought it about 2 years ago but the warranty was only valid for a year and the fan problem got really bad after a year so there was nothing I could do about it. My old Toshiba, which is now more than 5 years old and which I had given to my brother after buying the HP, is still going strong and its fan, even during a hot summer day and while running some rather powerful graphic application on it, is never as loud as the fan which is normally on at all times on the HP. Besides, right after buying the HP and diligently doing all the updates that were recommended by HP Health Check, it died and I had to send it back to HP but because I was outside of the US, at the time, I had no computer for weeks until I returned to the US, got a free box from HP, shipped it to them and got it back. It didn't cost any money but it was a big hassle and not a very promising sign of future problems to come. Good luck to everyone who will buy an HP computer in the future. I am going back to Toshiba.
