HP Photosmart Studio running SLOW on my new iMac w/Leopard

We just became Mac users with our new iMac less than a month ago. We got the HP 4400 all in one with the computer as well. I unloaded pics from my camera's card today and used the editing software for the first time....it was incredibly slow. Is there a reason for that? Is it like a PC....could I be running other programs that I'm not aware of that could have been slowing it down? It actually "locked up" at one point which was extremely frustrating to me with a new computer. I used the unloading and editing software with my old PC and old HP printer with no problems, so I was very surprised when the "new stuff" was sub par today.
Anyone out there that can suggest something or help me out?

I also am a new Mac user and have purchased a C7280 printer with all the accompanying software. I have experienced exactly the same problem and looking at the Activity Monitor the PhotosmartStudio application is making a large number of Unix calls. I have already uninstalled and re-installed the Software and this has made no difference. The silly part of this whole saga is that I would much prefer to download direct into iPhoto, but I am not sure how to separate the applications and discontinue using Photosmart. I think it might be simpler to purchase another printer!

You shouldn't disable Spotlight completely; Apple's App Store relies on it to keep track of updates to software you've downloaded and permit you to update them when they're available. Instead, in Spotlight preferences, uncheck everything in "Search Results." Spotlight will still run for OS and App Store purposes but won't be useful for your search needs any longer. Instead, check out EasyFind in the App Store. It's fast, flexible, and will search external drives Spotlight hasn't indexed.

We are still on FCP6. We never upgraded to 7, and we have just upgraded our iMacs.
FCP6 does not work with the new iMac and we would like to continue using the older version of of FCP.

You should refrain from repeating this suggestion about Rosetta (especially since you have no direct experience with it).  Much has changed since the time of its discussion back in the introduction of Lion days.
The fact of the matter is that Rosetta has no valid function installed into Lion or Mt. Lion and users have reported serious system problems and crashes after further subsequent modifications and System updates.
There are two safe methods to install FCP6 (FCS2) into Lion or Mt. Lion:
    Use Pacifist:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    Use Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method:

  • Upgrading from a G5 iMac running Tiger to a new iMac.

I am upgrading from a G5 iMac running Tiger to a new iMac, can I use 32Gb SD Card to move iphotos, itunes, ivideos? If so, how do I do it and insure I keep slideshows, playlists etc. I have built in iphoto, itunes etc.

Your Tiger iPhoto library may need upgrading with a Apple Library updater tool before you can use it with iPhoto '11. Reference. More iPhoto help just in case.
Make sure that that SD card is an SDHC card, and not just an SD card, or it may not be readable in your new iMac.
Here is the layout of the iTunes 11.0.1 Music folder on OS X 10.8.2. It may vary from what you have on Tiger.
Read the following articles before you move your iTunes library from Tiger.
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder.
iTunes: What are the iTunes library files?
When you are satisfied that your iTunes content is moved over to Mountain Lion, you may wish to deauthorize the G5 from iTunes.

  • Function keys don't work on New IMac with Leopard.. very sad

We just got a New IMac with Leopard at work and my F Keys don't work at all. I have tried everything, even checking the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys", but it doesn't work at all. I use these keys all the time. How can I fix this?

    WebWolf wrote:
My Bad, I am sure I am not the only one that has done this. I had not assigned the F Keys to their function under Exposé, I thought they didn't work after I turned on the F Keys under the Keyboard & Mouse window. So, I thought I would post this to help anyone else that did this.
    They now work, yea!!!!
Sometimes we solve our own problems quite well
I believe that Leopard does reset to the default F keys.

  • Premiere Pro CC running slow on my new Mac Pro

I just upgraded my system to the new Mac Pro(Darth Vader Helmet) and its running slower then my 5 year old tower!? Ill take 15-20 seconds to save a project(small project). The playback is still a bit jerky. Overall it just seems to be lagging a bit.
    Here are my comp specs:
    OS 10.9.2
    3GHZ 8-Core Intel eon 5
    64 GB 1867 MHz DDR2
Does anyone have any idea why Premiere isnt blazing!?

Thanks, Jason, that's what I was wondering about.  Generally, people post to forums when they have problems.
Yep.  That's usually what happens.  My review will be centered around my usual "benchmark" of editing 2 AVCHD inputs, one PiP'd into the other, synced with an external audio source, and then exported to an h.264 MP4.  CC on my current Mac Pro (modified dual 3.46Ghz Xeon, 48G, nVidia GTX570) takes that task about 1/2t, if t = length of video.  Which is pretty damned good.  I'm hoping the dual GPUs will help scale that export task down a bit more.  I don't expect it to hit 1/4t, but.. hey, maybe I'll be surprised?
I make about 60% of my living from Pr, and the rest from Ae and other apps (mostly Adobe).
Given the lack of CUDA, at the moment, I don't expect the new Mac Pro to be a stellar performer with Ae specifically.  I assume that Adobe is working on OpenCL'ing Ae as much as they possibly can.  But from what I understand, it ain't there yet.
(I'd need a TB monitor and PCI extender, too).
I can understand the need for the PCI extender, but why the TB monitor?  I'd in no way even remotely consider one of those, just given how ridiculously priced they are.  There's no need for one.  Does your display have a DP input?  You're all set.  No?  It has HDMI instead?  Still all set.  It's dual-linked DVI that becomes problematic.

  • Do I need a separate hard drive to run FCP7 with a new Imac?

Do I need an external hard drive as a scratch disc to run FCP7 on a Mountain Lion new Imac?

Editing and finishing on USB 3 works great.  Just wrapped up a Smithsonian Channel show where the editor edited on a 2012 Macbook Pro using a USB3 drive, and I onlined with my 2012 Macbook Pro.  First show we did that was done solely on laptops. USB 3 drive worked great.
I started to online on my tower, but the connection was USB2, so playback was sporatic.  Switched to laptop.

  • Slow performance, brand new iMac!

    Hello!
First, excuse my rusty English.. I hope you manage to read it
Main problem.. Adobe, PhaseOne and other intensive applications is veeeery slow on a high specced brand new iMac! Lightroom 5, PS CC and Capture One Pro 7 is what I use mostly.
I just got my brand new iMac 2014.2 (3.5/3.9 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 512GB flash disk and GTX780M), and its quite a lot slower than my other Win7 workstation. Other workstation specs: i7 4.2 GHz, 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD, GTX 580. I'm working on the same Raid-5 drive (USB-3) too, so I don't know why it's slower..
    What I experience:
Changing from "current" raw to next raw (while culling) takes several seconds, and my Raid-5 is done chewing long before I see the result on my monitor. I get the spinning beach ball while waiting for preview. I always render 1:1 on import and 1:1+standard size in menu, just to be sure. Adjustment brush is like dodging in PS v1.0 (NOT CS) when computers had less disk-space than we have cpu-cache today, awfully slow, and it "stutters". Moving/panning in 1:1 is very choppy, and sometimes I get the spinning beach ball while panning.. This happens in LR and CO.. Photoshop CC stutters or have to "think" when I try panning. These problems happens in 6 Mpix, 12 Mpix or 25 Mpix RAW files, and actually in some JPEGs too!
    I have done following:
I've tried 2003 and 2010 processing in LR, small change. Fixed permissions in OS X. Removed preferences for LR, CO and PS CC. Reinstalled LR/cloud apps and Capture One Pro 7. Increased camera raw cache from 15 to 50 GB. Followed Adobe's guide to make LR faster. Followed Capture One guides. Reinstalled (clean install) of OS X. I've tried all tips I could find in the forums around.. I have also tried placing RAW files on internal 512 GB disk to see if that helps on performance, but no change. Same story with camera raw cache, doesn't matter where it is.
Additional things.. I’ve also diagnosed the iMac with checkdisk, memcheck, logs, etc.. No problems as far as I can see.
I just changed my workflow from Win to OS X and I depend on this to work.. I currently have 4000 files from my last job waiting to be worked on, and I'm not finished until Christmas in this tempo :-(
If I can't get this working very soon, then I have to return this very expensive iMac and buy a new PC again..

  • Premiere Pro CC very slow on brand new iMac

    Hi
We have bought a new iMac, set up the Creative Cloud and downloaded Premiere Pro.
We've started a few new projects on this machine and whenever we play them back, the video always freezes on a frame whilst the audio carries on playing. When pausing the playback for the visual to catch up, Premiere takes a while to respond to the pause action.
We've tried changing the video renderer to Open CL, CUDA and Software only and still no luck.
    The computer specs are:
    Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
    16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096MB
    Premiere Pro CC 8.2.0
Any suggestions are more than welcome and I will respond with the results.
If you require anymore information then please ask and I will be happy to supply you with the details.
Thank you for your time and help in advance.

  • Running HDMI from a new iMAC - T'Bolt/Mini Display Port

I'm considering the brand new iMAC (27" i7 4Gb video card) for video editing. Can I feed a Sony full HD (1080p) TV via HDMI directly from a thunderbolt port or do I have to use a dual-link DVI cable/adaptor.
The Tech Spec talks of a Mini Display port output and 2 thunderbolt ports but does not show the mini display port in the picture. Is there a seperate mini display port or are they talking about a thunderbolt port being used as a mini display port?

    Hi w andersen,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your TV is not recognized by your iMac when you connect it, I recommend the troubleshooting tips found in this article:

  • New Imac 24" Leopard: migrate from G5(Tiger)  How To?

Have a new Imac 24". Want to transfer my files from my Dual 2GHZPowerPC G5 to the intel Imac. Older mac has Photoshop 7 and Adobe Pagemaker 7. I have a new CS, Office 08 as well as Iwork 09 for the new Imac. My question is should I install the new programs on the Imac and then migrate over from the G5 ? How do I move my Itunes stuff over?? Previously I have moved from an older computer to the new using an ethernet cable and target mode. Now I'm reading on this site to use a firewire cable instead?? Will the old Apple Works stuff I have on the G5 automatically be changed over to Pages, or do I have to do something specific? Have lots of old apps on the G5, so know I don't want to do an auto migrate. Also all my photos are stored in different folders, according to subject, year, etc. as I use Photoshop and not I photo. When I move these photos, will they be put into Iphoto (which I don't want!)? Any help would be appreciated. I am about 600 miles from the closest Apple store, so can't really run down and get help from a Genius... I am it I guess. Have depended on this forum before and it is a great help! Thanks in advance, VW

Again thanks to everyone for help. Imac is working great. Only problem is with mail actually on both my computers (G5 & Imac) using my pop account. My local internet provider apparently doesn't use a secure SSL. Their certificate is authenticated by themselves. I have had problems with the email on and off for sometime. Last week I couldn't access one of my email accounts using the correct password. I ended up calling them, and the guy I talked to said my password was what I had entered, he didn't know why it wouldn't work. Now the same account wouldn't work at all. I was able to send but not receive, then I couldn't do either. I did nothing to change anything on the account. Called today and was told someone had gone into my mailboxes and had deleted that account, though it still showed up on my list. He said I must have a "virus" or someone who knows my password must have changed this. NO one knows my password EXCEPT the techs at the pop server. He then said I must have a new virus and to invest in a heavy duty virus protection program for all my computers, even though they are MACS. Last summer these people allowed one of my employees to call them directly, and CHANGE my password and forward all my email to his, the employee's email address, without the employee giving my password or answering any security questions. Something is weird here.... May the fact that they don't have SSL security and that they make up their own "authorization" have anything to do with these problems??? Also have had my email addresses from this account used by spammers, etc. It is a business account, so shows up on advertising. Is it because they are NOT SSL secure allow this to happen? Could it make it easier for someone or a virus to affect their system? I live in an area with not many people. This is the only internet provider in the entire area. Any suggestions?? Thanks, VW

  • Apple Mail quits daily, runs slow on my new Intel iMac

I have used Apple Mail for years and love it. Since I switched to Intel 24" iMac it has been a different story. Mail quits unexpectedly 2 to 3 times per day. Plus it runs real slow, had to scrap all my smart folders to try to speed up. Any ideas anyone?

    Hi a brody,
I did not use Migration asst., simply copied folders across.
Junk mail filter is barely used, don't think thats problem.
I have an ADSL connection, with DSL modem.
The problem only started with the new Intel mac. I am getting used to the idea that I did wrong copying stuff across. I am gonna follow a recommendation read in a similar discussion - to set up mail from scratch and import the mailboxes, after moving the entire mail folders to my desktop.
I'll let you know how it goes.
