HP Probook 4510S says "Plugged in Not Charging," little help from tech support

Hi there,
I have a two year old HP Probook 4510S that has had a ton of problems. The most recent of which was an error message every time I turned on the computer saying "Batter is critically low" and it stopped charging and said that power was 0% (it continued to work though if it was plugged in and would die immediately if the plug was removed). I replaced the battery ($108), which took about a month to receive because HP apparently sent the store the battery that goes with the new model of Probook and said it would fit in the old model (it didn't and had to be sent back). When I finally got the new battery it worked for about a day and then I noticed that the message said "Plugged in, not charging" and when the charger isn't plugged in the battery seems to deplete rapidly. Now it's at 36% and not charging.
I spoke to someone today at tech support and she said because it's out of warranty they couldn't help me, but that I should "try a friend's charger" to diagnose the problem myself, as though everyone has the same charger. When I said I didn't have access to another laptop to try another charger she just repeated that I need to try it on a different charger to see if it's a problem with the battery or the charger. But that if it's the battery and I provide them with proof of purchase they could replace that. The battery is brand new and doing the same thing as the last battery, so I doubt this is the problem. I said that I had seen messages all over the internet discussing this problem and that no one seemed to have the answer and she said "Those are on the internet, we haven't substantiated those claims." I'm shocked that HP doesn't seem to care that they get a bad reputation for offering so little help if a product is out of warranty. Because of this experience I doubt I would purchase another product from them, and I would warn others against it too. I've had more computer problems with HP than any other brand of laptop I've had or any of my friends/family have had. In the meantime, has anyone else had this problem? From the forums I've read it seems that occasionally people find solutions, but none seem to be working for me. Any insight would be much appreciated.

I did a BIOS update on my ProBook 4530s and it took care of the problem

  • HT1926 my windows computer will not allow me to open itunes when i just installed it, it says it did not instal itunes helper or itunes support, so i have to reinstall it, i keep doing that but nothing changes.

every time i try to install iunes on my windows computer, it says that the itunes helper was not intalled or itunes support was not installed and that i need to reinstall itunes, i keep doing that but nothing changes. Any suggestions?

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

If you are getting a message to contact iTunes Support then you can do so via this link and ask them for help (we are fellow users here on these forums, we won't know why the message is appearing) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • Toshiba Qosmio X505 plugged in, not charging message

I have a Toshiba Qosmio X505 that is almost 4 years old and have some power issues.  The battery is drained to about 6% and the battery icon in the tool bar has the plug symbol for a second then it goes away then comes back and goes away.... it keeps flashing like this.  When I move the mouse over the battery icon it says plugged in, not charging.  I have tried every solution I have found on line with no luck.  I have removed the battery and ac charger and then held the power button for 30 seconds, I have cleaned the connections, I have re-installed the battery about 10 times, I have rebooted all to no avail.
When I remove the ac adapter the power light is off and the battery light is orange.  When I remove the battery and plug in the ac adapter the power light is steady red.  As soon as I put the battery in the ac power light begins to blink on and off.  The computer does not power on with the battery removed and the ac adapter plugged in (but I'm not sure if it's supposed to). I will also add that in the last week or so when I power on I would get a black screen saying an NTFS file is bad and the machine wants to do a disk check.  The disk check never runs, even when I try to do it manually.
I have read this could be a motherboard issue, an ac adapter issue, or a battery issue.  I am hopoing a replacement battery fixes the problem.  Before buying a battery I was hoping someone had some info to share.  Thanks

I bought a battery hoping that takes care of the problem.  If that doesn't work I will try a new adapter and if that doesn't work I will probably just remove the hard drive and use it as an external on a new machine.  Seems there really isn't a whole lot of info out there about this problem other than the start button solution.

  • I can't charge my DM1-4110et (plugged in, not charging)

    Hi,
I just bought a dm1-4110et 1 weeks ago. My battery not working properly since first day.
    Details about my problem;
My battery can't charge when notebook working. If I plugged in, Windows says "plugged in, not charging". I've tried ACPI trick and don't work. Led lighting white.
When I turn off pc, disconnect ac adapter & batery and reconnect them, notebook start charging and led ligting orange. But; if I turn notebook on, led turns white.
I've tried bios update, acpi trick, calibrating.. don't work. Probably I need to go service.
    Any ideas?

Sorry, here is what i did
    1.  Turnn laptop off, remoove battery, reinsert battery, plug the Charger, Charging starts (Orange light)
But as soon as I start laptop, charging stops.
    2. To keep the charging while using laptop, download and install HP Power Manager, during installation you will see laptop is charging again. Solved
    3. When you restart your laptop, same not charging occurs. To solve this just go into where HP Power Manager is installed, default path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Power Manager, select SCHEME.BAT, you will CHARGING. Place scheme.bat shortcut to desktop, and next time just use the short cut

  • HP G62-b13SA Notebook - "Plugged in, not charging"

    Hi,
I have an issue with charging my HP HP G62-b13SA Notebook PC (on Windows 7 Home Premium).  I've noticed that when I plug in the adapter, the icon says 'plugged in, not charging'.
However, I notice that sometimes it will charge for between a few seconds to about a minute (when I first connect the charger) with the orange light showing before I get the 'not charging' message and the light turns blue.
I have had the laptop for nearly 3 years and recently had to purchase a replacement battery as the original had gone completely flat.
I've tried running the battery down and  charging it, but no luck and the HP support assistant said the battery is ok
    Thanks,
    Jonathon

    Hi @Lewistrick
    Thank you for your query.
I grasp that until a few days ago your battery was working well but now it will not charge. You followed some suggestion in the forum but they did not help.
You ran the battery test and were informed you need to replace this one.  You are concerned that the test may be faulty and that you do not need to replace it.
Here are two documents to help you understand battery life and provides an alternative method to test the battery to ensure the first test was correct.

  • I'm getting a Plugged in, not charging message after replacing the CPU fan

I just replaced the CPU fan on this notebook last night and finished it today. Its running perfectly at the moment.
The problem is the windows Task bar on my desktop says "Plugged in, not charging" when I mouse over the battery indicator there. I've tried many things to fix it, from uninstalling or disabling the drivers for the devices involved (the ACPI battery and AC adapter) under Windows' device manager, to swapping out with my spare battery.
I've also switched power plans on the off chance that could have been causing some kind of battery charging setting. This did not fix it. The AC adapter works. I've been running this notebook for about two hours now searching for a solution, it just won't charge the battery. I've not tried observed it enough but I believe it will charge while powered off, but not while on. The orange LED indicator by the AC adapter port glows when the machine is off, indicating that it is charging.
I have a feeling the whole "uninstall device drivers for the battery devices" idea is a thing of the past. Everything I found which suggested doing that also mentioned Windows Vista, which at this point in time is a relic (July 2015). When I was replacing the CPU fan, it did get frustrating at times but everything is intact apart from some case clips and a few other plastic case parts. I have reason to believe everything is connected too because its still powered on, meaning its getting power, but it isn't going in to the battery.
    Symptom summary:
    Batteries: OKAC Adapter: OK
    MOBO: PROBABLY OK
    ME: NOT OK   xD

    Hey srkv121,
        welcome to the forums

    1. Optimized battery run time, the energy managment completely charges the battery to ensure maximum battery performance
    2. On best battery health, energy management charges only 50% of the battery, it ensures maximum battery life but not performance
    hope this helps

  • G510 Plugged in, not charging

    Hi,
I bought my G510 laptiop a few months ago.
It wasn't in use for the past month or so and the battery was completely drained when I turned it on.
However, when in Windows 7 (64-bit) the battery icon says: "Plugged in, not charging" and the battery is stuck at 0%.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Energy Management with no success. Also, in Energy Management  under battery info it says "Battery Status: Bad".
    Any suggestions?

  • T400: plugged in, not charging

I got a T400 a month ago and now it is having a battery problem. It says "plugged in, not charging" when I mouse over the battery system tray icon.
I've checked the battery maintenance tab in power options, and it is set to "always fully charge." I've also tried the other settings to no avail.  The battery is at 32% so it should definitely be charging. I've tried restarting, installing the latest power manager driver. Still not charging.
Another side-issue that is really annoying: My lenovo power manager won't open when I right click the windows battery icon and click "Power manager." It seems to work when I click the link from the Thinkvantage menu (from the Thinkvantage keyboard button). But from the system tray icon, it just opens the splash screen and then disappears. The PWMUI.exe is running in task manager, but the power manager doesn't seem to be open otherwise. Any suggestions?

Hi! i recently upgraded to windows 10, now my laptop won't charge even though its plugged in. The following message is shown (Plugged in, not charging)  Kindly help me with this problem.

I don't think my laptop doesn't support windows 10 because of the following: 1) The windows 10app diagnosed it to be compatible with windows 10 2) This error which i recieve isn't consistant, it will stay for a couple of days, then disappear for the next 7 days, only to show up again late.  If my pc didn't support windows 10 then i think it wouldn't support windows 10 everyday instead of just randomly working,
