HP Touchpad Locked

No device
I powered down my touchpad and then tried to fire it back up. When I turned it back on the logo for connection to a USB came up. I can not get it to come up again. As a matter of fact it is locked with this logo present. I have tried connecting to my laptop using the USB port but I am still getting nothing. Can anyone help with this?

Try rebooting the device by holding both the power switch and the center button together for around 15 seconds.
Booting into the USB symbol is done by powering down the device, then holding up volume switch and inserting the USB cable from your PC. When the USB symbol appears, let go of the volume switch.

Satellite p845t-101 touchpad locked

The touchpad on my satellite has locked itself. the locked symbol has lit up on the touchpad and I cannot unlock it, the fn-f5 shortcut does not work, the fn button seems to work with all other shortcuts.
the touchpad works fine when the laptop is booting up but when the boot sequence has finished the touchpad locks out.
HELP ME PLEASE.

There's a setting which changes that to work with just F5.
You can also disable/enable the touch pad by double-tapping the indicator light. This is on p. 2-9 of the User's Manual (attached)

TouchPad lock key does not work anymore on Dell XPS L401X

Hi everyone,
On my Dell XPS L401X laptop, there is a key to lock/unlock the touchpad. It used to work fine on Windows and on new fresh install ArchLinux, but now it does not work anymore. If I remember correctly, I did not change, configure any shortcut so far.
Any hint to fix this problem?

Touchpad locked in Gnome [Solved]

I really don't know what's going on with my touchpad in Gnome. I use Gnome, so when I'm in GDM the touchpad works ok but when I login in Gnome it locks with no apparent reason. If I plug a usb mouse it works again so I know the one it is not working is the touchpad. My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv2000. In KDE the touchpad works fine.
If I try to open System-->Preferences-->Touchpad it can't be opened either.

I had the same issue and managed to track it down to gsynaptics... which I deinstalled and now it works right.
I didn't continue searching for the error, as I didn't really know I had gsynaptics installed or what it is good for. I expect is a gnome interface for the synaptics options.

Touchpad lock failure

Hi there. I'm using a probook 4520s with windows 7 professional 32bit. The touchpad is giving me problems in that it won't lock. This happened unexpectedly after windows declared it had "updated a driver." I tried to uninstall synaptics touchpad under the programs and features thing, and it gave me this error:
An error occured while attempting to uninstall.
The Synaptics Pointing Device driver will not be uninstalled.(9)
I tried to uninstall the driver in Driver management, and this was successful. However, windows replaced the driver with "Unknown device" and since then it makes no difference uninstalling it, it just lingers there (or gets instantly replaced, i'm not sure.
I've attempted to update it (successful, but no change) and i downloaded an old version of the driver that somehow it accepted rolling back to. There is no change,
The software still persists. I have changed UAC as well, scanned for viruses, screamed at a wall
Does anyone have any ideas?

by "lock" im referring to setting it so that it doesn't register being touched. It's not quite disabling it as in through software... there's this LED in the corner of the touchpad which, when tapped twice, turns on, and the pad "locks" ie: it no longer registers being touched until the led is tapped twice again.
Some further information: with the touch pad, there's two separate things: One is the software, which is registered in the programs and features section, and the other is the driver, in the driver management.
What happened was, It refused to delete the software. so I deleted the driver, and tried to delete the software then. It didn't work, the "software" still lingered in the programs and features menu, but the driver was replaced automatically by windows as an "unknown device," and the same problem still stood.
So, some progress (or not): I entered windows safe mode, and attempted to delete the software. it WORKED. I also deleted the driver. it WORKED
BUT NOW: when trying to reinstall either, i get the error "incorrect parameter" for any driver version i attempt to install
Needless to say, the pad simply does not work now. it's completely disabled.
any thoughts? much appreciated

Probook 4530s Touchpad locked in "OFF"

my hp Probook 4530s touchpad somehow gets locked to the "off" position and then i cannot get it to turn on?
Are there any other ways to activate other than double-tapping the upper left corner fo the touchpad?

Remove Caps lock/Num lock indicator?

I have a Lenovo B590 laptop with Windows 8. When Caps lock or Num lock is turned on an indicator is shown in the lower right screen and it does not disappear until its turned off. I want to either remove it or turn it off. It looks like this: I have searched this forum for a solution and, for some, removing Lenovo Silver Silk Wireless Keyboard has fixed the problem. But I do not have this program in the "Add/Remove Program" list. Any suggestions what to do?

Hi Guys Had the same problem. The indicator mentioned is for the touchpad lock. It comes on every time and just sits uselessly in the bottom centre of the screen. Fn F6 removes the indicator icon from the screen but of course now toggles the touchpad off so it will not work, So Fn F6 again displays the indicator icon (without the diagonal line) and toggles the touchpad back on and in a few moments the icon disappears. This is only a temporary solution until the next time I awaken the machine. Consequently I followed the recommendation above for ridding yourself of the NumLock and CapsLock indicators and so far it appears to have cured the problem. In the Screen Resolution properties the TouchPadLock is not an option so just getting rid of it completely seemed the only solution. If a moderator knows better then some further advice would be welcome.

I've gotten most things working on my new laptop but I can't seem to figure out how to adjust my screen brightness.
The first thing I noticed was that there was no /proc/acpi/video directory. So I searched for where it might be:

The first three seemed like they might be useful since they are similar to the ThinkPad brightness values here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/La … brightness. Each one has only the number 15 in it. When I try as root to do

I get:

I have tried setting laptop-mode-tools to automatically echo different numbers when I unplug my laptop but they don't do anything. If you might be able to point me in the right direction, or know how to change the brightness on the Dell L501x, I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Just another thing: Do you get the synaptics touchpad work well? For me it works, but when I try to use two finger scroll, I can't use it when I lay my two fingers at the same time on the touchpad. I have to lay them one after another on the touchpad to use two finger scroll. Do you have the same problem or found a solution for this?

I own a Dell L401X i7 with Nvidia GT 425m and my touchpad also has problem. I use gpointing-device-setting to enable two finger scrolling. Sometimes it worked pretty well, sometimes when I put two fingers on the touchpad, my mouse jumped all over the screen. I don't know why.
Another thing I notice with this laptop is that my touchpad lock key does not work anymore (it used to work with the fresh installation of Arch)
If you find the solution to these, please share!
PS: I don't why to hijack this thread of CanadaRox, I just want to share some problems some of you guys out there who is owning the same Dell laptop line.

Satellite U500-1F5: eco and FN buttons don't work after BIOS update

I hope i can find a solution for my problems in here.
I bought a new Toshiba Satellite U500 (PSU9ME),
I am updating my laptop regularly whenever i receive alert through TEMPRO or Toshiba service center.
Last week I received an alert to updat the BIOS and i did it. since then i noticed the following problems:
1. eco utility is not working, and when i tried to uninstall it it says (BIOS unsupported)
2. the on screen funtion buttons that appear on the top of the screen when you press the Fn button does not apear anymore
3. the touchpad lock and unlock button does not work and even pressing Fn+F9 doesnot lock it
I hope u can give me an answer regarding my problems,
I already downloaded the latest updates for the eco and value added packege from toshiba site and installed them,
BUT
didnt solve any of my prob
still eco utility is not working. The msg (unsupported BIOS), appear when i run the update.
The function buttons bar on the top of the screen not working ( even after i uninstall the toshiba value package and re-install the latest one) and the touch back lock/unlock button also is not working.
I hope Toshiba can find me a solution, coz I dont have the time to go the service center

Thats nice but definitely not necessary. When the system runs well, don't touch or change anything. Maybe sounds stupid now but I recommend you to remove TEMPRO from the system. Believe me you don't need it. I have 2 years old Satellite A300 and still original BIOS. It runs perfectly and I don't want to make risk and change anything. Since last month I have Satellite U500-1EX and will do the same. Tempro is already removed and I am happy with factory settings.
All you have done is OK but at least you can try to reinstall whole OS now using HDD recovery option (F8 at start-up) to see if everything will works well again. sorry but if this will not help I think you need BIOS downgrade to old version.

My laptop goes haywire when the sound is unmuted

My laptop is going berzerk anytime I unmute the sound on it. When the sound is muted everything works fine, however when I unmute it the laptop will paste zxc\ty,.\ in the nearest free space, the caps lock will turn on, touchpad locks up, the scroll bar on the left will be stuck scrolling down and will nothing will work/stop until I hit the spacebar three times. Then I can once again use the keyboard but the zxc\ty,. keys will not work as well as the enter key on the main keyboard and the num lock on the keypad. When I try to mute it again, the mute button will not work and I will have to mute it using the touch pad by clicking on the speaker icon and selecting mute. Once it is muted again, everything will go back to functioning normally but without sound of course. Any ideas what could be causing this or how to fix it?

T440s TouchPad - Tap and Drag - Where is the "locking drags" setting?

On my ThinkPad X220 TouchPad properties there is a Tap & Drap setting for Locking Drags (see below). When this is enabled you can tap twice on an item (and hold on second tap) to engage drag and then this will be locked until you tap again. The benefit of this is it is possible to use multiple discrete touchpad movements to move an item across the desktop without having to engage drag mode each time.

This feature is not specific to my X220. I find it on lots of laptops and I find it extremely useful.
However, on my T440s I can't find such a setting. Am I missing something?

I was looking for this setting too. It's extremely helpful when you need to select text. After googling around and finding little to no information I figured it out on my own. I grabbed my old laptop and compared the registry before and after checking the "locking drags" setting. All what you need to do is find the key:
HKU\S-1-5-21-*a-bunch-of-numbers*-1001\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2TM2668,
and change the value of "Gestures" from 3 to 7. There is another similar key named TouchPadSMB2cTM2668. I was lazy to find out what key will affect the setting so I changed the valuge of "Gestures" too. After that log out / log in again or restart. It works perfectly for me.

Is USB mouse connected to the notebook while the touchpad isnt working?
Does the touchpad work in case the USB mouse isnt connected?
The question is whether this issue would be related to software or hardware problem.
In case its just an software issue, you should try to reinstall the touchpad driver.
This can be found on the Toshiba EU driver page.
Also the touchpad settings which you should find in
control panel ? mouse ? (last tab) device settings ? settings button
must be checked
