HT1206 Help on multiple devices within a family and 1 itunes account for music

Help I have multiple devices, Iphone, Ipod, Itouch, Ipad, Nano. Some used by our kids and some used by use. How do I set the accounts so my contacts on my ipad dont go to my sons Iphone? We use one Itune music account for the family music but my ipad has a seperate account for downloads.

I had this problem last night as well.  Only my daughter upgraded to iOS7 and she had an old phone of mine.  When she upgraded, the phone asked for my apple ID and then continued as normal.  However, after the upgrade, any text message that I recieved, she also recieved.  I am pretty sure my wife thought I was hammered when she started texting me and my daughter began answering her not having any clue what she was texting about.  Anyway, this only occurred with texts from other family members, not from texts I received from friends who are obviously not on our account (we have Verizon BTW).  To resolve this issue, and it isn't a short resolution.... there are two options...   One, simply erase everyting on the phone.... I don't like iTunes 11, so we were unable to back up her phone.  I made her go through her 600 photos, delete the ones she didn't want and email the ones she wanted to herself, and then we wiped the phone clean and rebooted it... go into Settings, General, Reset, Erase All Content and Settings.  The second option, if you have iTunes 11 is to back up the phones one at a time,  and then go into Settings, General, Reset, Erase All Content and Settings.  Either of these options wipes the phone clean of all information, text contacts pictures etc and then you have to re-enter all of your individual information.  When you do that, make sure that no one is on the same iTunes account.  Theoretically, after you do this, you plug back into your computer and SYNC your phone from the last back-up.  This resolved the problem for us.  I don't know if there is an easier solution, be we tried logging in and out of our iTunes Accounts, turning the power on and off, and nothing changed.  So, we had to go the more difficult route to avoid mass confusion with family texting.

  • HT1495 Multiple logons for one computer and multiple devices trying to use one itunes account.

I have one computer with a logon for Kids and one for Adults.  There is a touch and nano that was added to a single itunes account tied to my email on the adult logon and the shuffle that is on the kids account.  I can't seem to get the multiple devices access to all the songs with out erase and re-sync error message when not using the right device on the assigned logon to the computer - why and can we change this?

It sounds like each Windows user has it's own iTunesLibrary.itl file.  If that is the case, then you are correct, the correct device must be connected when logged in with the correct login.
If all Windows logins share an iTunesLibrary.itl file... then it does not matter which login is used or which device is connected.

  • Deploy app from iTunes Store to multiple iPads. Without Apple IDs/iTunes Accounts for iPads.

I can't find a simple answer to this question from Apples flashy "documentation" or from any online straighforward guides.
There is an app called "Articulate Mobile Player" that we want to deploy to our fleet of iPads. These iPads do not have Apple IDs/iTunes Accounts configured for them to access the iTunes store.
We have access to the Apple Configurator for Windows and Trend Micro MDM (Mobile Security and App Management for BYOD).
From what I can ascertain perhaps we need to create VPP account, "purchase" the free app required to gain access to the .IPA file, then either use our MDM solution or Configurator to place the app on devices.
Will we then need an Apple ID/iTunes Account to use the App?
Is there further requirements such as certificates and such? The iPads are configured to use the Trend MDM for app deployment as far as I am aware.
Thanks for the help and hopefully prompt response on exactly what is required for what is a really simple requirement and should not be this complicated.

That was quick!! So to double check on the statement:
"If both the Dutch apps + the newly downloaded HK app are visible (ON THE DEVICE), then I should be able (ON THE DEVICE) to switch back to my Dutch Apple ID, to keep receiving updates on my Dutch apps (including, and not limited to, newspapers, magazines, etc), Accepting that I would not be able to receive updates of the HK app."
    This is a valid statement?

  • Multiple devices: Apple/iCloud IDs and iTunes

Hi - I have a headache trying to figure this out reading articles on line.
Can someone please provide a simple explanation to do the following, and being very clear on Apple ID vs iCloud ID? I can't believe this is so complicated, but judging by the number of stories on this, Apple really needs to put out something step by step.
Currently I have one Apple ID and one iCloud ID, using the same email address, and also is the same as my iTunes account. I have a iPhone 5 tied to this, and manage my wife's 7th gen Nano using the same.
I just got my son an iPhone 4S. I would like to manage all of the content on his phone (music, apps) off of my account, but I'm reading that he need to have his own Apple ID and iCloud ID to use FaceTime, iMessage, track his phone location, and to keep his iCloud documents separate from mine (which makes sense).
So would someone be able to give me a quick step by step as to what needs to be done where on his phone, and if I can keep my email logged in on iTunes, or if we need to log in separately will we still have access to the same library?
Thank you for any direction you can provide.

    My iphone 5s = apple id 1
    Husband iphone 4s = apple id 2
My ipad = apple id 3
Son #1 ipad mini = apple id 4
Son #2 ipad mini = apple id 5
For iCloud.. Not quite, you want the same ID for iCloud on your phone and iPad so you have the same info on each. (so perhaps ID 1 on both.
But if you want to share your music (assuming lets say its your ID 1 that has the iTunes account), you should all use ID 1 for iTunes.

  • Issues with multiple apple IDs and iTunes accounts

I work in an office that is all mac based and have mac computers at home.  I have an apple ID and iTunes account for personal use where I purchase books and music and I have an office apple ID and iTunes account to share calendars with colleagues using iCloud and purchase work related apps like upgrades to operating systems, etc.
I have an iPhone that is set up with my personal apple ID so that my music is on my phone and so that the photo streaming is attached to personal photos, etc.  Is there a way to sync my personal contacts with my contacts that are registered with my professional apple ID?  Ideally, I would like to have my iOS devices syncing my calendar and contacts with my work apple ID and my music and photos with my personal ID.  Is there any hope or am I stuck?
Thanks for any help anyone might have...

    Welcome to the Apple community.
So far as contacts and calendars go, you can share your works data and your personal data with your iOS device by entering the second account as a secondary account in settings > mail, contacts and calendars.
You should also be aware that your iCloud and iTunes accounts and different accounts, you do not have to use the same ID for both.

  • Multiple Apple IDs linked to my iTunes account?

When I try to update my apps from within iTunes, it says that certain apps in my library were purchased on my husband's iTunes account.  I assume that this is somehow related to the one time that he plugged his phone into my computer and allowed it to sync?  How do I get his apps out of my library so that everything in there is linked to my apple ID and I can update all of my apps without erasing anything on his phone?

If all of the purchases and data are linked to your account, you can't transfer it to her account. You can't transfer purchases to another Apple ID.
She can continue to use your ID in order to update the current apps, but she cannot update them with her Apple ID. That doesn't work. Plus, if she is using iCloud for syncing Pages documents - she must continue to use your iCloud account as well.
Now can she use the apps from your account and still use her own ID? Yes she can, but signing in and out of two Apple ID's and downloading past purchases with your ID on her iPad will lock her out of her own Apple ID and iTunes account for 90 days.

  • I have one apple ID for multiple devices in my family.  I'd like to keep it that way for itunes/app purchases.  I would like a simple step 1, step 2, step 3 response on what I need to do to separate all other features like imessage, contacts, emails, etc.

I have one apple ID for multiple devices in my family.  I'd like to keep it that way for itunes/app purchases.  I would like a simple step 1, step 2, step 3 response on what I need to do to separate all other features like imessage, contacts, emails, etc.
I have been reasearching how to do this on the internet, but I haven't found an easy explanation yet.  My family is going crazy over each others imessages being sent to others in the family and not being able to use FaceTime because of conflicting email addresses.  I have read that if each person gets their own iCloud account, this would work.  However, I need to know what to do after I set everyone up with their own iCloud account.  Do I make that the default email address to be contacted or can they still use their hotmail email addresses.  Any help- with easy explanation- would be much appreciated!!

We do this in my family now.  We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores).  Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud.  That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup.  That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice.  You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.
In answer to what iCloud does for you: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response.  What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures.  Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures.  1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.

I don't know if I'm asking this all in a way that can be understood? Thanks ED3K, however that part I do understand (in the link you provided!)
What I need to know is "how" I can separate or rather create another Apple ID for my son-who is currently using "my Apple ID?" If there is a way to let him keep "all" his info on his phone (eg-contacts, music, app's, etc.) without doing a "reset?') Somehow I need to go into his phone's setting-create a new Apple ID and possibly a new password so he can still use our combined iCloud & Itunes account?
Also then letting me take back my Apple ID & password, but again allowing us (my son and I) to use the same iCloud & Itunes account? Does that make more sense??? I'm sincerely trying to get this cleared up once and for all----just need guidance from someone who has a true understanding of the whole Apple iCloud/Itunes system!
Thanks again for "anyone" that can help me!!!

I have multiple devices used by family members, how do you make sure the kids don't see Moms messages from Dad and visa versa?

    Hi Roger:
Thanks for the reply.  I think I figured out the problem.  Apple has confused (at least in my mind) the different IDs that people can have.  In the iCloud settings, they use the term Apple ID and not iCloud ID.  I guess there really is no such thing as an iCloud ID.  There are Apple IDs with various attributes.  This is not clearly explained or easy to see (how could I look up to see if my Apple ID is associated with iTunes for example?).
I created, what I thought were iCloud IDs for each family member, but we all use my Apple ID for iTunes.
One other question - why does the syncing of Notes using iCloud require an @me.com email account.  That makes no sense to me.
    Thanks for your help!

    CREATE A NEW USER
Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups
Decide on whether to setup as Admin or Standard User.
Switch to the New User by logging out under the Apple in the Menu Bar or use Fast User Switching
Fast User Switching allows other users to leave current applications and windows open. Depending on RAM, you might need to log out rather than use FUS.

Welcome to the world of digital media. Your can't really transfer it. I don't know what the rules are about transferring to your spouse but I do know that in some cases when you die, your heirs cannot inherit your digital media. This is why there is still an advantage to buying the CD since the usage rights belong to whomever holds the physical media.
A possible workaround is to burn the songs to a music CD with yout account (tracks only without song titles) and then having your wife upload it as a regular music CD onto her account. It's been a while since i've done this so I'm not sure if it would work now.
Please note that I'm not advocating copyright and/or TOS violations. I'm only suggesting ways to copy music for your own personal use which has traditonally been permitted. I only did this because I wanted to convert iTunes songs to mp3 files so I could burn them onto a data CD for use in my car. It would make sense that since married couples are a joint entity, this would be personal use.
Also, I'm not a lawyer so don't take this as legal advice.

  • My family put multiple devices on the icloud, and I need to know how to manage duplicate entries.  Specifically contacts.  If I fix the contact list on my pc will it push the info out to the other devices and maintain it correctly?

All devices signed into the same iCloud account will finish up with the same contacts. Of course if prior to joining iCloud two family members each had an entry for Uncle Fred, then you will finish up with two contact cards for Uncle Fred, and so on. If you tidy this up on your computer then the changes will propagate to everyone else.

  • Does iTunes allow multiple devices (iPod nano) to share one account?

Does iTunes allow multiple devices (iPod nano) to share one account?

Yes, Apple are keen for you to buy as many of their devices as your pocket will support.
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways for managing the media content. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iDevices using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their device. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed and need rebuilding. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.
