Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

My iPod Touch 2nd Generation is Disabled. The mesage on my home screen says "iPod is disabled, connect to iTunes." But recently I have sold my old laptop that had all my iPod backup on it, and I have purchased a new laptop. I have iTunes downloaded onto my new laptop, and I have Authorized it with my Acount ID and Password. But, here's my problem, I have never Connected my iPod to my new laptop, and done a Sync. And when I connect my iPod to My computer with my iTunes up on my screen, My laptop trys to Sync into my iPod and a msg box appears on my screen saying that I need to Unlock my iPod before I can Sync. But I cant because of it being Disabled. CAN ANYBODY HELP ME?

Well, my friend gave me his iPod 4G Because the screens LCD was broken and there was a black dot in the screen and it didn't work, he didn't want it anymore because he thinks he broke it because where the LCD connects to the front of the motherboard one of the prongs is bent but I can still click the LCD in if I get a new screen will it still work?

You need to follow the instructions in the second half of that page
Note: If iTunes asks you to enter the passcode, try another computer that you have synced with. Otherwise, go to "If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer" section below.
So you need to click on the 'If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer' heading and follow the instructions underneath it -

i just downloaded icloud and it wont let me log on it say i can us my apple id but it thenb say i need to set up for icloud but know where does it let you or tell you how to
You must set the account using a Mac or an iPad/iPhone, it may not be setup using a PC.

today I have a message reading icloud backup...this ipad hasnt been backed up for 2 wks...backups happen when this ipad is plugged in (done) locked (done)
and connected to wifi (I assume this is also done as it is wireless)

My ipod touch 2 gen refuses to update to ios 4.2. it keeps telling me version 3.1.3 is up to date. I have downloaded ios 4.2.1 which is supposed to be the most recet update but i dont know how to upgrade it. and each time i try it gives me an error messge. this makes it impossible for me to get ibooks on my ipod. My ipod was disabled by my son entering the wrong pass code. I no longer have the original computer i sync to. I have tried to restore using the instructions sent by Apple Rep, and on these help pages. I get a message from itunes saying that cannot connect to ipod touch b/c it is disabled, that i need to enter passcode to continue.. meanwhile, the ipod touch is saying i am disabled and to connect to itunes. Any NEW ideas?
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:

ok so my frined gave me her ipod. so i connected it to my computer and it did the sync thing and i said not to. it will let me add songs to it...and delete all of the previous ones on there. but i want to keep some of the ones she had on there....i do not want to delete them all....so how would i delete some of the songs?
highlight the ipod icon on the left side of the itunes window. when the summary page is displayed, click on the "music" tab. if the "sync music" is checked - uncheck it. this will allow you to manually control your music.
to delete music:
on the upper left corner of itunes is the "library" - click on "music" located just below it. find the song you want to delete and highlight it. now go to the "edit" menu of itunes and drop down to "delete." you will get a message asking if you want to remove the song - if yes, click "remove." read carefully since this option is permanent.
if you want itunes to sync music in the future, go back and check the "sync music."
