Im trying to burn an iDVD and its saying that there is not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets. My main hard drive only has a few hundred Mb left on it so i bought a 1 Tb external hard drive and want to know how to make iDVD use the space on the external hard drive instead trying to use the main hard drive. Yes - This is important.
Free Space - Must be on the Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk and can not be used on any other.
My safe level is a minimum of 25Gb free space - to let iDVD and Mac OS run OK.
This is due to that Mac OS X is in reality UNIX and there by needs lot's of temporary space for temp. files and so does the application iDVD. And this can not be addressed elsewhere.
So to free up space - one thing is to move iMovie Events to an external hard disk BUT THIS MUST BE DONE Right Else all can be lost ! !
• Never move or adjust any folders Named - iMovie Events or iMovie Projects - on Desktop/Finder - links will breake and can be hard to impossibly to heal. ALL movings must be done within iMovie Application (it goes for iMovie'08 to 11)
• External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange will NOT WORK FOR VIDEO - nearly everything else BUT NOT VIDEO.

Trying to copy photos in folder on desktop to a flash drive but keep getting error that there is not enough free space when there is. I read to delete trash with the flash drive in but that still doesn't work. Help!!
How is the flash drive formatted? Open Disk Utility (Applications>Utilities) and see how it's formatted - that might be the problem.

I am trying to sync my ipod shuffle 4th generation, but this time around I keep getting a message saying that there is not enough free space to sync my itunes library. Frustratingly I am trying to sync a new playlist which is smaller in size than the one currently on the ipod!! I have tried everthing I can think of but to no avail, please help!!

When I connect my ipad to the computer and click import photos and videos, the computer says that there are no photos or videos on the ipad it says the file is empty I can't even add anything to the file!!!!!
It looks like the card may be the problem, and your best bet is to try the Card Reader - this will make the card accessible by the Finder and you may be able to drag the pics off to the desktop or, at worst, try recover the pics with an app like MediaRecover

I did sync my phone on a regular basis and I think the memos should be on the desktop computer. I tried to do a restore function but I got a message saying there was not enough room on the iPhone. what you can do is back up your phone to your computer before doing the update, just as a precaution. -
I am nearly out of iCloud storage but I have over 3 gb on my iPad. I just bought a game that requires 1.5 gb but will not download to my iPad because it says that there's not enough storage in the cloud. Why can't I just download the game to my iPad?
That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. That misleading error message can be the result of moving a download while it's in progress. Right-click the download package and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. The file you downloaded may be in the folder that opens.

My iPhone 4 says that there is not enough memory to download apps like Facebook and Instagram. When plugged into iTunes it says that >4GB is filled with "other". How do I clear the "other"? What is this?
Other is usually around 1 GB...
A ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup... But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup... Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

After iPhoto crashed, it automatically tried to rebuild and ten repair itself. iPhoto opens and all my albums are there, but no thumbnails. I've tried rebuilding the thumbnails twice, to no avail. So I tried restoring from backup (Time Machine) to the last version before the crash, but I can't because it says there's no enough free space to do so. What else is there left to try?
That is the file I tried to restore, /Pictures/iPhoto Library (I only have one library package). In Time Machine, I had choose "Restore to" and then manually select the Pictures folder again, not sure if that makes a difference. According to the finder, the package is 396gb in size, far more than the free space I have on the boot drive or backup drive. Time Machine seems kind of useless in this case, unless I go out and buy a new external drive just to restore the backup library file. But rebuilding hasn't worked yet.

Can I compress my songs in itunes - currently my 1600 songs are taking up 14 GB of room - I was told that the nano 8 GB could hold up to 2000 songs - is there a reason that my 1600 are taking up so much space. Someone suggested removing the album covers - is there a was to compress the songs I have out there.
1600 songs... it depends the individual size of each track. Not all tracks take up the same storage space.
If you want to have all 1600 tracks on one iPod, you need a larger iPod. -
I am trying to sync an ipod touch 4TH gen. The capacity bar at the bottom shows I am adding 22.29g with 6.5 g free. Yet every time I try to sync it warns that there is not enough room an additional 868.9m is still needed. Does the capacity bar tend to be wrong or am I missing something?
Well when all else fails do a restore! This fixed my problem. Still don't know why the content bar differed, but what the hey!

The document I can't get to is the spreadsheet of my passwords. Go figure. When I check the storage under "about this Mac" it says I have 150 GB of 249 GB. I have a MacBook Air. Help please. My Ipod is plugged in, but my computer says that is unable to sync, restore, or all of the above because there is a duplicate file name. Then when I un-plug my ipod it stays frozen on the connected screen. What do I do???
