HT1338 Software update not working with snow leopard 10.6.8

When I try to update snow leopard 10.8.6 through the Software update, it launches but crashes with the message Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem. Software Update can’t connect to the update server. But I do have internet connection. If I try to update from the terminal with the command " sudo softwareupdate -i -r, it tries to connect but end up with connection timed out. I have never able to update my system with software update utility. Does anybody have any suggestion?

Hi,
This reply may seem late but might as well share my findings.
I have the same problems with the software updater for 10.6.8 as well after trying to move on to Mavericks from
OS X Leopard 10.6.8.
Tried the patch as well the listed files to delete and etc but all failed.
Then I noticed the problem was with the software updater complaining that there was a network problem and even though the dignostics was run the results were no network connection exists but Air Port is connected and there is no issue browsing the web.
I took a look at the Wi-Fi settings and noticed that the default locations were going back to an old Wi-Fi network location I had latched on to 4 years ago! I assumed some screw up with the Wi-Fi network software and thus removed all Wi-Fi network associations and locations and reconfigured the Wi-Fi from scratch for my local home Wi-Fi network. After this the software update worked fine and can now download updates. Note that I did install the update patch by Apple though in my first attempt to resolve the problem.
I would consider the possibility of the Wi-Fi software services within OS X Snow Leopard being a bit "buggy".
Deleting all the non used Wi-Fi network associations and clearing or resetting the default location settings helped revive/resolve the no network connection problem with the software updater.
Now can move on to Mavericks...

According to Roaring Apps, there is a version of Protools compatible with Lion.  But you may need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to buy either Lion or ML on MAS.   It looks like you need to get up-to-date with your OS and the apps too.

  • M-Audio MIDISPORT UNO USB Not Working With Snow Leopard

My Snow Leopard installation worked fine except until I plugged in my MacBook to my Casio Privia with the M=Audio MIDISPORT UNO USB cable to run GarageBand. I'm getting a MIDI error which states it can't work with the latest operating system. It doesn't surprise me though for all the software and hardware driver updates that have to catch up to such a new OSX 10.6. I went to the M-Audio site to download the latest driver, but the drivers only were compatible with OSX10.5.8.
This is an alert at the site
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Support Coming Soon
Avid/M-Audio working closely with Apple to offer support for OS X 10.6
Avid/M-Audio is pleased to hear that Apple has released Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. We’ve been working closely with Apple to bring Snow Leopard support to the M-Audio® product line, as well as the Pro Tools® product line and extended product families. We ask that all existing Mac users please wait to upgrade until we officially announce Snow Leopard support. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
This is a bit of a concern, because I need to get GarageBand running again with the MIDI hook ups. Is there a work around anyone knows about to get MIDI working with Snow Leopard.
    Thanks Steve

I ran into a similar problem. I discovered one thing which may help you out though. It works OK with my Yamaha P200 keyboard but it does not work with my Yamaha NP30 keyboard. I looked at the MIDI stream and the only difference seems to be that the NP30 sends a continuous stream of MIDI clock, whereas the P200 does not. My theory is that this clock stream is somehow confusing the driver. I can't seem to disable the MIDI clock on my NP30 but if your Privia has the ability to disable MIDI clock, then it may be worth a try as it will probably fix the problem until they come out with the proper drivers.

  • HP LaserJet P1005 not working with Snow Leopard

Has anyone managed to get this printer to work with Snow Leopard 10.6? I have installed the latest drivers* from the HP website which BTW do not say they support 10.6 , see http://is.gd/2DfcE
*Not sure exactly what the version number of the drivers is. The website says they are version 1.0.7, but when installed they show version 1.0.6
I either get nothing coming out of the printer or an error "PrintJobMgr quit unexpectedly - This report will be sent to Apple automatically".

    From this web page:
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can use if there is an issue:
Ensure the printer is connected, has power, has ink / toner, paper, and no alerts on its built-in display.
Network based printers should be on the same subnet; you shouldn't have to worry about this if your printer is on your home network.
Use Software Update for the latest available updates.
Delete the affected printer from Printer & Fax System Preferences, then re-add the printer.
If the issue persists, reset printing system as described below, then re-add the printer.
If the issue persists, contact the printer vendor and/or visit their website for printer software and support.

  • Flash, Adobe Air, Time Machine, Safari not  working with Snow Leopard

Really need some help with this.
Did an archive and install of Leopard then installed Snow Leopard. No problems yet.
90% of Video sites would not work. Uninstalled and reinstalled Flash. Uninstalled ShockWave, could not reinstall with 10.6.1.
Attempt to install adobe air, received this message: "couldn't write the application to hard drive - please verify and try again." performed verify disk, disk permissions, repair permissions all ok.
Attempted to install Air again, same message.
Tried to use Time Machine to open Safari from a week ago, received message: I did not have permission.
Using Macbook Pro, 2g memory, 80g hd, with 42g free.
    Backed up on ext. HD,
Oh, one more, getting a lot of spinning wheels when using Safari that causes a lockup and hard re-start.
I have an expensive piece of software that uses adobe air and I create videos for my business and I'm not able to do so now.
Can anyone give me any ideas what I can do.
    Thanks,

After a couple of days of problems with Snow Leopard and flash, safari etc... I figured out the problem is with my account.
I created a new admin account and everything seems to be working. Well almost.
a couple of things I've noticed are right clicking on dock icons does nothing, no option to quit or keep in dock.
Apple Techs', had me change my account months ago to fix a problem with safari crashing. It didn't really work and more problems resulted.
*So now my big question is: How do I move need items over to the new account.* I don't want to move everything over as I might bring what caused the problem in the first place.
What I need are several apps,(like ilife, iwork, firefox, devonthink, 1password etc.) downloads, desktop, docs, files, and book marks.
*What is the best way for me to do this?* Is there anything I need to do re: Snow Leopard on the new account?
I feel like I have a new and functioning Mac again just around the corner.
    Looking for your help, thanks,

  • Canon MP620 print driver does not work with Snow Leopard

Bought a Macbook & bundled Canon MP620 printer in Dec 08. Two days ago upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I can no longer print (the printer is not recognized), it only sees "Bonjour scanner" (the printer is a multi-function printer, copier, fax, scanner). Spent more than two hours with two different Apple tech support people over the phone; talked to Apple personnel in store. My printer is connected via Ethernet cable to a wireless modem, and I connect to the wireless modem via Airport. The phone tech person insisted that this printer is supported by Snow Leopard, but we reloaded the print driver from the Snow Leopard installation disk with no results. Finally my last resort, which worked, is to go to Radio Shack and get a cable that has a USB-A (printer) to USB-B (Mac) attachment. I was able to print. It is unacceptable for Apple to have this problem, as I went into the store four different times to discuss whether I should upgrade to Snow Leopard, and was told on every occasion that Snow Leopard will make everything run faster, more smoothy, etc. NOT! I want Apple to post a notice on their web site to a) confirm their print driver problems with Snow Leopard and b) to confirm WHEN new print drivers will be released.

Have a look at my last posting re Canon network printing.

i got my MP980 working via Ethernet and wireless. The same procedure should work for your MP620.

  • FireWire ports on display not working with Snow Leopard Mac Pro

I just bought a new quad core Mac Pro with Snow Leopard and I have connected it to my three year- old Apple 23 inch cinema display and everything works fine....except for the Firewire 400 ports on the display. They no longer recognize my external iSight camera or external hard drives. And of course the devices will not connect to the computer's 800 ports. Anyone come across this, or have any solutions? I've tried connecting and reconnecting and have repaired permissions. Thanks.

This means that my Firewire 400 ports on the display are no longer supported by the computer?
They need a FireWire connection to the computer. With older computers, the FireWire cable from the display would plug in to a computer FW400 port to provide the connection. With FW800 only computers, you need the adapter.

  • Novatel Wireless Merlin X950D not working with Snow Leopard

I've just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard and my Merlin X950D 3G broadband card has stopped working.
When I insert the card sometimes it's detected but won't connect, sometimes it's detected but only after being inserted for some time (5 mins or longer) and still won't connect, other times it's just not being detected at all.
I've tried on a clean install of Snow Leopard using the built-in WWAN drivers and I've also tried with Novatel's drivers. In both cases I've tried booting Snow Leopard in 32 and 64 bit modes. Can't think what else to do; has anyone got any ideas?

    I found a solution.
Download the older Novatel drivers (2.2.3) from this site:
    http://www.nvtl.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=174:macosxtiger -novatelevdo&catid=42:mac-installation-i
After a reboot, your modem will work fine. Something in the 3.0 drivers is incompatible with Snow Leopard.

  • Capture 4 still not working with snow leopard

despite the update from capture 4, it still crashes and wipes your settings with snow leopard.
Anyone know when they may update to fix or a workaround?

    HI,
If you can find an associated preference file that might help.
    Quit Capture4 if it's running.
Locate this file. com.capture4.plist (The wording might be slightly different). Perhaps Nikon in the name also.
    ~/Library/Preferences.
Move that file to the Trash and see if that helps.
We have no way of knowing when the next update will come out nor what it might contain.
    Try repairing disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Canon pixma IP4000R will not work with Snow Leopard

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, my Canon IP4000r printer will not work. I have tried both the Canon Printer Drivers 2.3 (my printer is listed) from Apple and the latest printer driver from Canon. There are multiple problems ... the first thing I noticed is that not all of the printer options are available on the print dialog. When I tried to print, I got "fatal::internal error -9660."
It looks like both drivers I've tried so far are CUPS (which is probably why all of the printer options are not supported).
Anyone have any ideas? Other than buying a new printer ...

The driver version provided by Canon is v10.26.x while the update provided by Apple will increase the version to 10.30.3.0. The v10.26 and v10.30 drivers provide all the features that the previous v4.8.3 driver for OS X 10.5 and earlier provided. However the layout for these menus is definitely different.
Also, a lot of user who upgrade from a previous OS X may not realise that the default print dialog is in a minimised view. You need to press the disclosure triangle next to the printer name to get the expanded view.
When I tried to print, I got "fatal::internal error -9660."
I suggest you try a printer reset.
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
    4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
    5. Restart your Mac
This will remove your iP4000R print queue but not the printer drivers. So you will only need to add the queue again.
It looks like both drivers I've tried so far are CUPS (which is probably why all of the printer options are not supported).
Yes they are both CUPS by name as they are both made by Canon. But this is not your issue. If you believe that a particular option is not available then please reply with what that is.

  • Final Cut Pro not working with Snow Leopard.

Hello, folks, happy holidays and new year to you all.
I have just recently found out the FCP 5 (fully updated, but I don't know what the exact version is) is not opening. It bounces in the dock, and that's it. However, the other apps are all working fine, Motion, DVD Pro, and Live Type. Soundtrack Pro is working as well, but I also own that with Logic, so I don't know which version it is.
I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.2, this is on my desktop. I have repaired permissions.
What I haven't done, is to see if it boots from my backup 10.5.8 drive, as well as see if it is working on my laptop. The reason I'm posting is to see if there is a known problem and easy solution. Thanks all!

  • Xerox Workcentre 3119 does not work with Snow Leopard?

I just installed Snow Leopard and my existing printers are not recognized. I had no problem with Leopard. I tried re-installing the printer driver but still no go.
This is frustrating. Can anyone help?

Lassiter, here's your Oz url: "AUS Web Support," <[email protected]>
Note that it's only the printing that doesn't work. Scanning and copying both work OK. Files can still be printed from another Mac or drive with 10.5 or earlier if it has the appropriate program installed.
In response to the last post in this thread I have done everything suggested but Fuji-Xerox have not provided an update yet to make this particular printer work as a printer with SL. The message given in the print queue window is:
+The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance.+
    +Printer offline.+
Their latest installation package is for 10.5 and dated Apr 2008 but the ppd is Feb 2006. There are no other printer files apparently installed by the installer as are provided for other printers supported in SL.
The only permissions repair issue since playing with other installers is the usual batch for Adobe Flash Player!

  • HP 8150N Printer still not working with Snow Leopard

I went to the Hewlett Packard page for a new driver and was told the new driver for my printer was included in the Snow Leopard update. I'm sure it is, but my computer can't find the printer. I've used advice from other discussions and tried what I could with the "Print & Fax" feature on my computer, but so far, nothing works. The printer to a network with two other computers in my office. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I believe this to be a "generic" statement since the support agent did not know what your problem was. I have double checked, and there are no known issues with the driver for the 8150n (at least none that engineering has been informed of and is working on).
I fully believe the problem you are experiencing is due to the lack of AppleTalk in Snow Leopard.
First print out the IP address of your printer by printing the configuration page. You may also be able to get this information on the front panel if you dig.
Second, open up the print and fax control panel and click the + button to add a printer. In the add printer window that opens, select the IP button at the top, choose the protocol of HP JetDirect - Socket, and then type the IP address of the printer. If the OS automatically selects the right printer driver (and not Generic PostScript) you are good to go. Click Add Printer and happy printing.
If it doesn't auto select the right printer then your printer probably does not have an IP address that is routable from the Mac. The easiest way to get the printer to grab a new IP address is to cold reset it. Cold Reset the printer by powering it down and then powering it back up while holding down the GO button.
This should force the printer to grab a new IP address. Follow the above steps again to add the printer, and away you'll go.
One drawback of this method is if you have a network that keeps changing and a DHCP server that doesn't reserve IP addresses for devices it is possible that the printer at some point in the future updates its IP address and is no longer reachable. If this happens, simply repeat the steps and you'll be all set. The other alternative is to assign a static IP address to your printer, but that takes a bit more work.
    Just trying to help.

  • CS4 will not work with Snow Leopard

Does anyone know what the problem is? I have been reading on other message boards about CS4 programs crashing. I can't even get mine to open. Does anyone know a fix or something that can help?

*Adobe Bridge* - WILL NOT OPEN - Use Bridge CS3 if you have it.
*Adobe Contribute* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Device Central* - Very buggy. - Use Adobe Device Central CS3 if you have it.
*Adobe Dreamweaver* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Dynamic Link* - NO MAC SUPPORT.
*Adobe Encore* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.

*Adobe OnLocation* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Photoshop* - is working well; however it also has NO 64-bit support! with no future 64-bit support planned. Sorry.
*Adobe Premiere Pro* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Soundbooth* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.

My nephew just installed Snow Leopard on my IMAC 2008. I cannot get to printer to work. I have tried uninstalling the HP software and reinstalling. I have updated the software thru Apple updates. It still won't print or scan any documents.

I would recommend these instructions (they don't hurt anything), however, different circumstances require different solutions.:
Try deleting the printer .plist files and see if that helps.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the following files to the Trash.
    com.apple.print.add.plist
    com.apple.print.custompresets(your printer manufacture name).plist
    com.apple.PrinterProxy.plist
    com.apple.PrintingPrefs.plist
    Restart your Mac.
