HT1386 I have an older iPod (5th gen, 30GB+video).  My computer crashed and itunes was no loner accessible on it.  On my new computer, how do I transfer the music from my iPod to the library in iTunes that is on my new computer?

I have an older iPod (5th gen, 30GB+video) that I had connected to my computer with iTunes.  That computer crashed and the only place my music is stored is on my iPod.  How do I move that music to the iTunes program (version 8) on my new computer.  When I connect my iPod to my new computer the music shows up in my iPod's music directory but I can't move it to the library.

Please help me out as this is very irritating. This has been happening for the last 20-30 minutes. It had roughly half battery left.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • How to I transfer my music from my ipod to the new hard drive?

My windows laptop crashed two months ago and I lost everything on it.  I was able to get the hard drive replaced but all of my music is on my ipod (nano - 2nd edition, I think).  Only a small percentage is purchased via itunes.
I have been googling how to now move my music from my ipod to my new hard drive but most solutions assume that I still have the old laptop/hard drive.  I know I was able to do this previously when the hard drive crashed, but I can't seem to remember now as it was about 5 years ago.  I'm afraid to do anything just now as I don't want it syncing to an empty library and have my ipod wiped clean.
Is there any way of moving the music from my ipod to my itunes library on the new hard drive??  Please help as I don't want to have to reload over 100 cd's

  • How can I transfer my music from my iPod (4G Touch) to a new computer with windows 7?

Help.  My old computer crashed and all my music from my CDs is still on my iPod but I need to get it into itunes onmy new computer with windows 7.  I have found a number of procedures online that apparently work for earlier versions of windows but i can't figure them out for windows 7.  Any suggestions from folks who have solved this proble would be appreciated.

    - Connect the iPod to the computer and transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - To transfer other music you will nee a third-party program like those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - If you have synced photos then you will have to use a paid program like TouchCopy or PhoneView. Those also do music
    - Then connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the backup does not contain synced media like app and music.

1.Reinstall your system and your iTunes library, or just get your music, videos and photos off your iPod, and save them to your computer
2.Back up all of your music, playlists, videos and photos from iPod to a new computer.
3.Share your iPod contents with a friend.
4.Restore your songs, movies, and photographs from your iPod if you'tve lost your iTunes music library during a system crash.

  • How do I transfer my music from my ipod to my laptop? I have Windows 7 and using the newest itunes update. These are all songs that were burned from cd's and such and weren't actually purchased through itunes.

I try to play a song but an exclamation point shows up saying the file could not be located. They play on my 1st gen video ipod just fine. It does that with more than half of my songs. Originally I had my songs in an external hard drive but the HDD fell once and since then it hasn't been connecting to my laptop. Now the songs that I used to have back then won't play on my itunes unless u plug in the HDD which my laptop won't detect. Is there a way for me to transfer my working songs to my itunes from my ipod so they'll all play again? im getting ready to buy and ipod touch but it's not good if most of my songs don't transfer because of the "missing files".

i do, but like i said it fell once and since then it hasn't been able to connect to my laptop. it acts like nothing's connected. i believe if i call the company the HDD is from they'll be able to transfer it to a new one but who knows how much they'd charge. looks like i have no choice now.
If it were truly a backup, then the media would play on the laptop as it would be on the laptop.
Sounds like you actually do not have a backup, instead you chose to keep your media on an external drive.
Regardless of where the media is stored, it's always a good idea to have a backup for instances like this.

  • IPod 5th Gen 30GB Video - Constant Freeze when updating songs

    Hi,
My new 30GB Video ipod worked fine for 3 days, then I got an error message in windows telling me a file on the iPod was currupt, and to run chkdsk on it. Could not do that, so restored the iPod using the lastest updater from Apple.
The ipod now startes to copy some songs across, but only gets a little way through before it freezes on the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen and I loose the iPod from windows explorer and iTunes.
The only way I can get te pod back is to reset it, and then it has no songs, videos or podcasts on it, so I have to restart over again, and then the same thing happens.
I have already reset, reinstalled itunes and ipod software, and I am getting a bit fed up.....
    Any ideas

Well, A trip up to the nearest Apple Store it is tomorrow then...
Done the reset, re-install of the updater software, re-installed iTunes etc etc.
How ofter are these video ipods failing?
(Oh, and now it allows me to turn it on again, then crashes on updating just one playlist onto my ipod.)

  • How to I transfer my music from my iPod classic to iTunes on my PC?

Reformatted HD and installed new motherboard in PC.  Lost iTunes music library and music lists.  My iPod still has everything on it.  How do I transfer the music saved on my iPod back to iTunes on my PC.

First, you need to prevent automatic synchronzation with a blank copy of iTunes.  While connecting the iPod to the computer, click "cancel" when iTunes presents the dialog box offering to synchronize to the iPod. Or hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys in Windows. This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
You can then copy music that you purchased from the iTunes Store back to iTunes directly (use the Transfer Purchases From iPod command under the iTunes File menu).  If you want to copy back other tracks, the easiest way will be to search CNet or another software compendium for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities, some free, that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod  back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this article in the iLounge:
