It sounds like your Click Wheel iPod is showing a sad iPod icon. If it will go into Disk Mode you may be able to restore it, take a look at the article and quote below for more information about the alert and possible resolutions.

Resolution
In most cases, the sad iPod icon indicates a hardware issue. If you are able to force iPod into Disk Mode, then it may not be a hardware issue, and you should try to restore your iPod with the latest software.
If you cannot force your iPod into disk mode and restore it, then your iPod is in need of service. Set up an iPod Service Request or make a reservation at the Genius Bar before visiting your local Apple Retail Store. To make a reservation:
Go to http://www.apple.com/retail/storelist/.
Choose an Apple Store location.
Click the Reserve link under Genius Bar.
Choose iPod.
Select your desired reservation date and time.

Try popping out the SIM card and turn off the phone.
Pop in the SIM card once again and turn on the phone, make sure that the SIM card is placed and seated perfectly in the tray!

I fixed this issue (with help from tech support) and it involved several things.
After adding a song to iTunes, right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Update iTunes Match."
OR go to the iTunes menu-->Store-->Update iTunes Match.
Maybe that's the reason, it just hadn't updated to the cloud.
OR maybe it's not a high-enough bitrate file. This happens to me because most of my tunes are home-recorded.
Sometimes converting to .mp3 or Create AAC version might work. (You do this with a right-click in iTunes, and then you will want to remove the original file from iTunes.)
There is an iTunes Preferences setting, under General Preferences called Import Settings. Try setting it to AAC Encoder and iTunes Plus. That (I think) causes imports to be slightly better quality.

If you want to Restore iPhone Firmware. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Then hold both home and power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Then click Restore button of iTunes.

Songs I purchased in iTunes, after syncing with my iPhone and iPad, show up in the library and playlist on the computer. They are in the songs lists on both devices but do not actually transfer to the playlist on either though the computer says they have.

I purchased four songs in iTunes, downloaded them, then did a sync with both my iPhone and iPad. All songs show up in the libraries of both devices. I then added these songs to a playlist on the computer then synced both devices again. According to iTunes on the computer, all four songs are in the playlists on both devices. However, on the actual devices, only two of the four are in the playlists. All four are still showing up in the library. I created another playlist specifically for these four songs to see what would happend, dragged them to the playlist on the computer, then did another sync. Once again, according to the computer, all the songs are in the playlists on the devices. However, only two of the four are actually in the playlists on the phone and iPad. Any ideas what's going on?

I had a very similar issue (same playlist). After several frustrating hours of various combinations I was able to sync by changing the options to "manuall sync.." and then "dragging and dropping" the needed playlist from the iTunes Playlist list to the iPhone button (on my itunes setup/view that was from the far left column list of all of my playlist in iTunes to the far upper right "iPhone" button). To sum up "checking" the playlist and syncing didnt work, "drag and droping" the playlist did... at least for now... then I unselected the "manually manage" in the options and re-synced and all playlist were synced correctly. Ive just noticed my entire iPhoto library is missing except for tonights last sync.
I have never activated Time Machine. I am worried if i activate it now, i would have no chance of retrieving my iPhoto library.
Can i restore the iPhoto library from the laptops memory? Or have i clicked the wrong thing while syncing, with no chance of seeing my life again?

I was distracted at the time and have forgotten but I thought it was something like "are you sure you would like to replace all photos on this divise for the ones in your iPhoto library" I was confident as both the comp and my phone have been together for years now.
Im questioning wether the iPhoto program had its own problem before tonights sync. Syncing photos is something i would do regularly without problems, but I've had about a six month break.
Luckily i have made some folders and copied photos out of the iPhoto program. iPhoto was my default photo program and had so many photos from my travelling.
Also I remembered Facebook syncs photos privately, I trying to go way back in time to see if there are any i can save there.
I respect your honesty, if you believe there is no way i can get the program back to normal just say so.

TS1541 I took my iMac to the store and they wiped it clean and helped me reinstall from a back up but we did not have time to finish the reinstall of all the pictures, when I got home I followed the directions and ii got a message saying that I am nadmini

What's the precise text of that message, please? (There's a few different ones I can think of that you might be getting.)

Can See Songs in Library & Playlist, but error Message of "file not found"!

Though I can actually find the songs in my "My Documents" and individual user files, I can no longer play directly from i-Tunes like before. I installed 7.0 and also was using a sync program (Winamp)and I may have really screwed things up! Any suggestions?

It sounds like you do know the location of the
folder. What you need to do is point iTunes back to
that location, iTunes>edit>preferences>general tab,
the first box on the general tab is the music folder
location, so you can "tell" iTunes where it is at
that point.
So I have looked into this. However, iTunes already has the correct folder location. But, I've still got the dreaded exclamation point next to 2,000 of my songs. On some of the songs they are divided into subfolders by artist name, done before I started using iTunes; but this was never a problem before. The only thing that I can think of to do at this point is to add the folder to my iTunes library again, and go through and remove all duplicate songs, which would be a tremendous pita. Anyone have any ideas? please?
