I had the same problem, as I believe many others had.
In my case the problem was with one of OSX Mavericks' new features: APP NAP.
It looks like this is ON by DEFAULT for ALL Applications and that FCPx, or Compressor for that matter, will not work if this is enabled on them.
I just disabled App Napp on FCPx and now it works, again, like a charm.

Uncheck Align to Pixel Grid in the Transform pallet with all objects selected, and then uncheck Align New Objects to Pixel Grid

Dear Firefox,
When I select "Check for Updates" the pop up screen simply notes that my system is "Downloading update" but nothing ever happens.

In mail how do we stop the e-mail's showing as read when you select them without opening the full e-mail? I want to click on a mail and read this in the preview pane only without showing it as read.
Not possible. In order to read an email in the preview pane requires opening the message. You can mark a message that you've read as unread after reading it.

I have a Mac mini running the latest version of OS X and Server. Been running fine and flawlessly. However, I had a strange problem with the iCloud preferences panel crashing when I tried to access it, so I rebooted. Now I can not log into the system with any accounts. My master admin account (along with all the others) gives me the error:
You are unable to login to the user account "abcdefg" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."
I am able to see the server from other macs and I can log into it using the same account, but it only shows me a few of the shared folders I have access to but NOT to my main directories.
Rebooting into Command-R and doing a disk utility, I try and repair permission on that drive and get a bunch of errors like:
ACL found but not expected on Users
Repaired "Users"
ACL found but not expected on Users/.localized
Repaired "Users/.localized"
ACL found but not expected on Users/Shared
Repaired "Users/shared"
ACL found but not expected on Users/Shared/.localized
Repaired "Users/Shared/.localized"
Permissions repair complete.
But rebooting is no joy...same problem. Any idea what is going on or how to repair it? Should I do a time machine restore? Complete new OS X install? Any idea what is causing this or how to salvage it?Got everything to re-install and it worked fine...for a few hours. Then I came in to find ALL of my network users deleted. Just GONE. Then found out the Open Directory was trashed and was unable to open, recover or restore from a backup. Looks like I may have a bad drive here.
I installed a new drive in the system, re-installed and so far (for a couple of hours anyway) the system seems to be working and stable. -
Safari is not working on the Mac. Internet is fine. mail, App Store etc all working and connecting to Internet fine. Done the latest software update, still not working. When selecting a web address from bookmarks or typing in search bar, partial blue bar only and coloured wheel appears.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If extensions aren't causing the problem, see below.

iPhoto will not load the iPhoto library. When I select "show all windows" the library does appear but cannot open it. I am on version 8.1.2 and using Maverick.
I was able to get it fixed. I had received some responses and they had me
recreate the library I believe. It's been a while so I cant remember
exactly what I did. I have since upgraded to the latest i photo version and
have had no problems with it.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Check your document color mode and the mode of the color picker as well as your color managemnt settings. You can't print certain colors in CMYK and AI is correctly adjusting gamut based on your settings on that assumption. Work in RGB if you need "pure" colors.

Just got the Iphone 4s in June, now everytime I go to download an app, it will not download. When I go to get updates, the apps will not download. I tried, reinstalling, resyncing, turning the phone off and on, what is happening? How do I fix this?

If you're not a developer then you really should not have upgraded.
I'm unsure how you can fix this as you have already done a back-up on iOS 7 and apple don't support firmware downgrades.
