Nothing... why would they do anything?
Apple does not provide insurance and they are not law enforcement.

I returned my iphone and they gave me a new one and they activated it at the iphone store. when i got home and tried to sync my contacts, they were gone. there are a few contacts that it imported but only about 25% of my original list. I think the contacts that it is syncing is from the mac address book. I have had problems with this phone and recently re-installed the sim card and had to restore my contacts and it worked fine. but this time when i plug the iphone in to itunes, it doesnt recognized the phone with "my name" on it. it just says iphone under the devices tab. where are my contacts? are they stored somewhere else on the mac where i can retrieve them?

With the iPhone, contacts are not stored on the SIM card, but stored on the device itself. Typically, you want to backup your iPhone contacts with a program on your computer (like Address Book or Outlook) so you have those contacts in case you need to restore your iPhone or get it replaced. When you sync your iPhone with your computer, iTunes will make a backup of your information, but future syncs replaces your backup.
You can look and see if your old backup remains by going into the iTunes preferences and clicking on the syncing tab. It will give you the name of the iPhone backed up and the last date it backed up the information. If you synced your iPhone before you took it in to be replaced, your contact information may still be included in that backup. You can restore your phone in iTunes and choose the backup you want to re-sync to the iPhone.

A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. That requires a Mac with OSX 10.5.8 or later. With 1OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1
A 3G to 5.1.1 Requires iTunes version 10.5 or later
A 4G to 6 Requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. That requires a Mac with OSX 10.6.8 or later
Identifying iPod models
Since you are stuck at 4.2.1 you may have a 2G iPod.

iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318. -
It has a cracked screen also but that is not the issue. I am willing to live with the screen
Unfortunately, ANY signs of 'neglect or damage' automatically become the cause of any issues you're having. As in it doesn't matter if your screen was flickering before it was dropped, when they see the dent or cracked screen, that screen flicker was caused by the drop. Because they have no way to know if you are telling the truth (it's nothing personal, they just literally dont' know) so any signs of damage become the reason for your issue. The only way out of that is if you had taken in your iPad and, even if you didn't get it replaced, an apple employee can have documented that yes, that issue existed before the drop.
It's not fun, I know, but that's just how it is. Any signs of 'neglect or damage' and that 'neglect or damage' is the cause of your issues. -

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Here is what it says after it completes the download process and when it tries to install.
The software for the i pod hoseboy i pod was corrupted during the download.
Disconnect and reconnect then try again. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later.

- Make a backup of th iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer. Right click on iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
- Restore the iPod from backup and sync as necessary. -
I know it's a tad late, but I recently updated my iPod touch 4th gen to iOS 6 and now it won't play any of my music. It will play Spotify and YouTube just fine, but it won't play my music. It will just skip to the next a d the next and the next after a second or two without any sound. Please help! Thank you.
Try:

- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

This is bugging me quite a bit, I bought an album today and it lists the song as being 4 mins 17 seconds. However, as I mentioned, on both platforms it stops at around 35 seconds and flicks onto the next song in the case of iTunes or just stops playing audio for my iPod Touch 4th gen. It is a full song on Youtube and everywhere else I seem to look, so is this likely to be a software issue with iTunes/iOS or the song itself perhaps?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:

I have an ipod touch 4th Gen that everything was working perfectly. After the last update of iOs 5, the battery have charge 20 minutes. After the correction of the iOS 5.0.1 the battery have the same 20 minutes. What I can do? ThanksSame thing here. Try putting the brightness down all the way (its hard to see at first but you will get used to it) and one more thing is that close all you open apps. So to do that you have to click the home button twice (after you put your passcode in) and you will see some apps in the bottom. Hold it until there is a red - sign. click all of them so they go away. This does not delete your apps it just makes your ipod better.

ThanksNo body knows about the next gen of any Apple products, other than they always advance. There are still many much older products in successful use so that should not be a problem. My iPad original cannot use iOS 6.1.3 but it still does what I want and works great.
If you have the 4th gen, use it aa long as it meets your needs. If it doesn't look at the options for a new one at that time. -
what do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet. i have contacted apple support and they said to change from wep to wpa2 but when i change it to wpa2 and type in password and connect on my laptop it says the saved setting on this computer for the network do not match the require ments of the network
My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
You may need to go back and start over. Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router. -
