HT1414 If I Restore my iPod Touch, will I be able to restore to a backup afterwards (in the process of updating to iOS 5 in the event of error code -43)
I have just got ready to sync to a new computer (my old one got restored and all backups were lost ) and update to iOS 5.
I finally manage to recreate my old iTunes library on my new computer and transfer my purchases, sync my iPod an dback it up.
With all that done, I go on to update to iOS 5... But low and behold I get error code -43 "An error occurred while backing up this iPod-43 Would you like to continue to updte this iPod? Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPod"

I restored my phone to original setting. (backed up before I did this)
It then installed iOS 5 automatically, and then I got the option to set up as a new phone or use last back up...so didn't lose anything.----
I have backed up my iPod touch, and am ready to restore, but amm worried that if I do restore, I won't be able to restore back to my backup afterwards, this will mean losing some data. I just need confirmation that I will be able to get "the option to set up as a new phone or use last back up," as i really don't want to restore and find myself with an empty iPod.
If it possible to do this, please coudl someone post a step-by-step guide on how to update using the afformentioned method, just to give me (and many others) peace of mind.
When you restore an iOS device the IOS version that will be on the iPod after the restore is the latest available for that model device. For the 4G iPod that would be 6.1.6

Yes. get a computer with iTune 10.5 and:
- Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- Transfer other stuff using a third-party program like one of those discussed here. Most are good for music. It is harder to find one for other stuff like synced photos.

- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right-clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up
- Restore the iPod from backup and sync as neccessary. -
My iPod touch used to play and charge in my non apple dock but now will do neither. Looking back it appears to have stopped working when the software was updated to 5.1. Why is this?
There are two sides to this. On the one hand, an Apple upgrade bricked your dock and that bites. On the other hand, Apple can't be expected to design around 3rd party devices that don't follow the specifications. We don't know why Apple made this particular change that bricked your dock so it is difficult to judge whether or not there was a good reason behind it. We also do not know why AIVN didn't follow the specification but it was probably cost related.
Note: If you sell the iPod, you'll still have a non-functioning dock. You can sell it to someone with an older iPhone or iPod that can't be updated to iOS 5.1. -

The first time I tried to update today I got a error 1603. I just tried updating again I got a error of 1604! I've done everything it recomends but it's not helping! Please help!
I have an 8gb 4th gen ipod touch.Hi, yeah, this bit me hard too yesterday evening - spent a couple of hours playing around! Got everything as up to date as possible, up graded to latest iPhoto to benefit from photo streaming, installed iCloud and made sure everyhting was ticketty boo before trying to download and install iOS5. Two error codes later, toubleshot both identified issues and it was still crashing very end of process.
In the end it bricked and I had to completely restore the iPod touch from factory settings, using back up - took quite some time and guess what?! Patience rewarded, backed up iPod now runing iOS5. The thing installed itself once I reverted to factory settings. Dunno why, but yeah, it was the most glitchy apple experience I've had. Still nowhere near as glitchy as Windoze can be however.
Downloading was also a pain, several attempts timed out, where it was showing a download estimated time of five hours at one point! Guess there's a lot of us jumping on the bandwaggon -

- A reset does not delete any media (apps, music etc) from the iPod.
- A restore will delete apps, music and other media from the iPod. If the media is in the iTunes library then a restore from backp will restore the media and after a restore to factory defaults/new iPod you can sync the media back to the iPod.

Why won't it sync? Are you getting any sort of error message during the sync process? If so what is the exact wording of that error message? If this the computer you normally sync the iPod with?

I was wondering if restoring your ipod touch will erase everything on it because my computer does not seem to be recongizing my ipod nor is itunes. And I was afraid that if I restored my ipod that everything will be gone from it. The reason I am worried about this is that I have important notes that i have typed on it and a lot of aps that I do not want to put back on (too much work).If you restore to original settings it will erase everything on your iPod Touch.
