HT1414 My iPad will not progress past the home screen. My computer will not let me back it up. What can I do?

My iPad will not progress past the home screen, and my computer doesn't allow me to download my data from it. What do I do? I wanted to try to restore it, but I don't want to lose my "stuff".

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose your "stuff" with Recovery Mode.

Help please!!!! When I turn my ipod on, (with a full charge and fresh restore and update) it will not go past the home screen (music, setting, ect). The hold button is off. The click wheel will move the selector up and down, but I can't go any further than that.

The dowload of firfox will not move past the run screen

I have been trying to install Firefox to my desktop. The dowload will not progress past the run screen. There is no set up. I successfully installed on my second computer so I am confused.

Ipad 3 on 7.0.4 will not go past the passcode screen after bootup

hi all.i have ipad3 on 7.0.4 and it willl not go past the passcode screen after bootup without restarting This happens immediately after i press the fourth digit of my passcode (yes the correct code is used) It happily sits at the initial lockscreen working seemingly perfectly giving me the usual notification etc. but as soon as i swipe the screen, bringing up the numeric keypad and enter the four digit pin the screen goes black and then it begins its bootloop scenario all over again. i would dearly like to fix this WITHOUT needing to resort to taking a chance opn IOS 8 yet because it seems to me that it should be avoided at the moment until someone resolves more of the many big issues people are complaining of currently, and in their wisdom apple have chosen to stop signing any ios 7 restores recently so i cannot restore or upgrade within the realm of IOS 7 its IOS 8 (the farce continues) or nothing. I have Snow leopard on my computer, and I tried to do a hard restart as an article suggested, but it did not work. I also tried cleaning out the PRAM.
The only things I did last night:
-cleaned the history of Firefox out, including cookies
-let it unplugged all night
-plugged it back in the morning, it took a long time to figure itself out, but eventually the time was correct and I got on the internet for a bit
-shutdown the computer since I was going out and thought it would help the computer charge
-came back, tried to turn it on, and found that it would not go past the grey screen the apple on it and the spinning wheel even though I left it for 20 minutes or more
-tried turning it off and on to no avail

Before doing a reinstall, which may not be needed at this point,
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. This could just be a start in repairs and you may need a better utility to finish the job.
Then Repair Permissions.
No need to report any Permissions errors........we all get them.

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode? If not, I suggest that you give it a try. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
If this works you will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
See if you are able to do a little hard drive maintenance to help things out.

Satellite L500 will not load past the 'welcome' screen

My Toshiba Satellite L500 laptop will not load past the 'welcome' screen. The cursor thing just keeps going around and around but won't go to my desktop.
Last night it went into some temporary profile and it had a message saying 'your other profile cannot load at this time please try again later'

The error message is not known to me and also searching in google didnt get any hints.
Possibly your Windows OS is muddled up.
Did you try to boot Win 7 in safe mode?
Try this. Restart your notebook, tap the F8 key.
In advanced boot options choose the option called Safe Mode.
If the notebook does not allow booting in Safe Mode, try the option Last Good Known Configuration.
If this didnt help, try Repair my Computer. Here you can choose between different settings.
The one which could solve this is HDD recovery which helps you to set the notebook to factory settings. But this means also that your HDD would be formatted!
So be aware of this!

Invoke Safe Mode by holding down the shift Key as you restart. This will do a Disk Utility "Repair Disk" as it starts up (so it takes a few minutes longer) and then load with minimal extensions loaded, and request your login username and password, even if you normally do not use them to log in.
Safe Mode runs the screen using simple, unaccelerated commands. Most things are available in Safe Mode, but things that rely on extensions will not be.
Acomputer that works in Safe Mode, but fails again after you restart, often implicates your extensions and add-ons.

Emac not going past the 1st screen

This is actually a question about my mom's emac. It has power, but will not go past the first screen with the apple - the circle goes round and round. We have tried starting with the shift key down but nothing happened. My mom has had a stroke and is in a wheelchair and taking it for repair will be very problematic. Back up to your computer instead. To do this, connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now. Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer your apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library. Finally, save any photo stream photos to your camera roll (open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll), then import your camera roll photos and videos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. (You don't need to delete them from your phone afterwards unless you need the space.)
