HT1451 Many of my song files aren't being located by Itunes.

My media folder is correctly located and all my music is stored in the correct place.  I store it all on an external hard drive. If I double-click each individual song it reinstates on the Itunes list as a second entry. Please help.

OK, it would seem you moved the media folder independently of iTunes in a way that has confused it. If not iTunes has decided you should be using the default path and has lost track of what it previously knew.
Check that the media folder under Edit > Preferences > Advanced is pointed at G:\iTunes\iTunes Media. Open Get Info for a missing track and this time locate it when prompted. iTune may offer to fix other broken links and successfully repair things. Otherwise try my script FindTracks.

  • I borrowed a hard drive from a friend that contains many thousands of songs. Somehow when tranferring these to iTunes I managed to get several copies of each song. How can i do a bulk delete of all the copies leaving just one version of each song?

I need help please. I borrowed a hard drive from a friend which contains many thousands of songs. When adding them to my iTunes library I somehow managed to make multiple copies of each song. Is there a way to do a bulk delete of all the duplicates? If I have to go one by one it will take a lifetime.

I have the same problem. I keep backups on a home server and this is where my library pointed to. I changed it to the local drive and now I have two copies in the library. I need to either bulk delete or clear the library (without deleting the files) and then rebuild. How do I do either of these things?

  • Font Info in External CSS Files aren't being recognized or utilized

I'm a front-end web developer. After I upgraded to the new Firefox, I checked two of my websites that I built.
The font information in my CSS external files aren't being recognized so the fonts are coming in at the wrong sizes (that is...really LARGE). (However, it is recognizing placement of absolute positioned images.)

Sounds like you did not properly define your site. Start
    there.

    Hi ngreg62,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The steps in these articles can help troubleshoot if iOS devices or iPods aren't recognized in iTunes:

It will be compatible in that iTunes Match will look at your computers Apple Lossless versions, and will then send AAC 256Kbps versions to your iPad. It will not send Apple Lossless copies to your iPad (or even another computer). AAC 256Kbps versions are fine for an iPad and Apple Lossless versions would very rapidly completely fill an iPad.

  • How can I copy mp3 files which are already located by itunes to the actual itunes folder?

    Dear all,
I would like to transfer my whole itunes library to a new computer. I know that this can be done by copying the whole itunes folder on the old computer (if you want to keep all the data of the itunes files). However, I have a little problem. Since I had a long period in which I did not download music from itunes or I got music from others, most files are not in the itunes library folder. I kept them in many different folders all over my hard disk, because it is a quite big collection from the past decade orso. In that time, I just dragged the files to itunes, so itunes can now locate them. They are not in the actual itunes library folder though. Is there a possible way to let itunes locate the files (it already has the locations) and put/copy them in the itunes library folder?
    Thanks in advance!!

With these options selected in Edit > Preferences > Advanced:
select File > Library > Organize Library...  When you get this prompt:
check the Consolidate files box and - if not greyed out - the Reorganize files ... box, and click OK.  iTunes will then copy any media files that are not stored in the iTunes Media folder structure into it, so that you can then copy the complete iTunes folder to your new computer.

  • Will uninstalling iTunes delete all my song files?

    ^^^^

No. Your song files aren't stored in the iTunes application itself, and none of them will be deleted if iTunes is uninstalled.

  • Song Files Won't Open!

    My Dilemma:
I'm a songwriter who has been composing songs on Garageband for a couple years now, and i'm pretty familiar with the software. About two weeks ago, my hard drive failed and I had to take my Macbook into the tech department at my school where they replaced my hard drive.
They recovered all my files, except all the Garageband files aren't opening. The files are there, but when I open them, the blue loading bar appears, says "initializing", and then says nothing at all and the blue spiral load bar doesn't load any further. I've let it sit for about five minutes, and the load bar never starts to open the tracks.
    Are the files corrupted now?
I was wondering if anybody knew alternate ways to open the files weather they were corrupted or not, or change the files so I can open them again. Or, if anyone else had this problem and knew how to fix it.
Also, if it helps, all of the files are now proceeded by the extension .band and they previously weren't.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated, as many of the song files were works in progress.
    -I have Mac OS X 10.4.11
    -Garageband 3.0.4
    thanks so much,

    Hey there,
when i "open package contents" for the song files... there are three folders. Contents, Freeze Files, and Media. There is also something called projectdata that seems to be a document.
The contents folder has a document called Pkginfo
The freeze files folder is empty
And the Contents folder has a number of .aif files, which seem to be the audio tracks.
Thank you SO much for your help.

  • Haven't lost song files, but have lost playlists and want to restore!

I store my songs (2300 in total) on a NAS drive. Two days ago, it was necessary for me to detach the NAS drive from my system. When it was re-attached, for some reason it came to life with a name that was a modified version of its prior name. Consequently, when I opened iTunes, although all of the songs in my library were listed, when i clicked on them, iTunes couldn't find them. A dialog box asked if i wanted to navigate to where the song file was located. Itunes no longer knew where to look for the file. I clicked on "Edit" and then "Preferences" and then selected "advanced" to see where iTunes thought the music files were located. The location was identified as the "Music" folder located on my computer's hard drive--not the NAS drive. (In the music folder, I have perhaps 20 songs that are remnants from a bygone day.) Within "advanced", I changing the location from the C drive to the NAS drive and thought that iTunes would then recognize the song files on the NAS. It didn't. I renamed the itl file as "Old Itunes library" with the intent of following a suggestion on the web to modify the song locations in the XML file. I then, for reasons that i can't explain, re-opened iTunes. When I re-opened iTunes, there were no songs at all listed--iTunes was blank. I opened windows explorer and noted that Itunes had created a new itl and XML file. It must have written over the "good" XML file. I didn't think that this would be a problem since I had saved the old itl file which i understand is the file which is really responsible for keeping the library organized.
I clicked on the old itl file thinking that my library would be magically restored, but nothing happened. I then uninstalled itunes and re-installed it, again thinking that it would recognize the presence of my song-library on the NAS drive. It didn't. I know that all of my songs are still on the NAS drive, but I don't know how to restore my playlists.
I have seen advice on how to transfer files from the iPod to the computer, but I don't think that that is what I need. All of my song files are present--they simply aren't being recognized on itunes.
My intuition tells me that the key to all of this is the itl file referenced above. However, I have not been able to do anything with it. Does anyone out there know how to help me out with this?

Do what it told you to do - restore.
You will lose anything that you have failed to backup.
Not backing up everything before any update is a mistake.

  • I moved my song files and now my playlists can't find them

    Here's my scenario:
I run iTunes off my laptop and stored most of my songs on an external drive. My external drive went bad, so I copied the songs off my external drive onto the laptop hard drive in a separate folder.
Now when I run iTunes and open a playlist, there are exclamations next to all the songs that used to be on the external drive but are now on the laptop drive.
I can re-locate the songs one by one, but that will be a pain for the 2000 plus songs that used to be on the external drive.
My purchased music stays on my laptop, so I have music in two different folders.
How can I re-point the playlists to the correct folder(s) without doing it song by song? I don't want to lose the playlists (i.e. I don't care about metadata like ratings, play count, etc.) I have seen the "Moving Your iTunes Music Folder" article, but I'm not sure if this applies to my situation because I already moved my song files through Explorer and not through iTunes. I want to make sure that my playlists can find the song files even though I've moved them.
    HP pavilion laptop   Windows XP

Well, I think I figured it out. My playlists were pointing to an external drive E:, which I had removed from my system. So I gave the playlists something to find: I enabled my iPod as an external disk, moved the files that I had previously removed my exHD and put them on my iPod. With my ipod connected and now acting as a new exHD, I opened itunes and hat cleared up all the exclamation points. Then I consolidated my library (in edit>preferences>advanced menu, check "keep itunes music folder organized," check "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library," then OK; in advanced menu choose "consolidate library"). That put all those songs from the exHD into the iTunes music folder. I then deleted those files from my iPod, enabled automatic update again, and now I'm back in business.
Hope that helps anyone else out there with the same problem. My advice is to keep your library all in one place. Easier to backup and restore. Also, if you want to move itunes song files, read the article "changing where your itunes files are stored" and "moving your itunes music folder."

  • ITunes Song File Will Not Upload To iTunes Match/Cloud

I have two song files that are failing to upload. Both files play fine. I have tried creating new AAC files. I have reimported the files from the CD using error check. I have turned off iTunes match and turned it back on, I have deauthorized the computer and reauthorized it. Other files on the CD imported correctly and uploaded. I have tried adding both files one at a time. One file is 6 MB and one file is 4.5 MB.
iTunes Match gets to step of uploading the file, hesitates, stops and restarts the process. Thanks for any suggestions,
    Ken

    Hi,
These are 2 song files imported from 2 CDs using iTunes as AAC MP4 files. All the other songs on the 2 CDs have uploaded to the iTunes Match cloud with no problems.
Importing one of the songs as MP3 (4.5 MB became 4.1 MB) worked. However, when I repeated the process with the second problem file, iTunes Match again fails at the upload step. Seems to be random, but your suggestion worked for one out of two.
Thanks. Can anyone think of anything else to try?

  • Importing song files

I was able to import Garageband 6.0 song files from my G4 laptop to itunes, but I was wondering if importing to the newest version of Garageband was at all possible?

GrageBand 10.0 can open Garageband 6.0.song projects, but it will create an upgraded copy, and you cannot open this copy any longer in the older version.
But from a G4? are you really asking about GarageBand 6.0 or GarageBand '06?
GarageBand 6.0 would mean GarageBand '11, version 6.0. Apples version numbers are really confusing!

  • My music files aren't missing, but iTunes has randomly lost many of them

Most of my albums can still be seen in iTunes, but many isolated songs, and occasional whole albums can't be found by iTunes. I get the exclamation mark. When I look for the song files, they are right where they are supposed to be, in many cases right next to other songs which iTunes lists as accessible.
Looking for patterns, it looks like most of these "lost" songs are purchased. I can't see any pattern to why some songs on an album are missing, and others aren't, or why certain albums appear lost.
    1. Anyone else seen this oddness? Why did iTunes lose track of the (normal) location of these files?
    2. Is there an easy way to have iTunes rescan these locations without creating thousands of duplicates, or do I have to do this one song file at a time. (Ugh)
    3. I do have backups, with Time Machine. I tried bringing forward and older version of the iTunes Library file, thinking that stored these locations, but that didn't work.
    4. I can easily do a column sort in the detail view on any column, but I can't do that on the exclamation point column, to manually identify missing songs by grouping them together. I can't search for these other than by scrolling.
    Any help would be appreciated

It seems as though Itunes is doing something very similar to the reason why I left Windows Media Player, it seems to be allowing the info such as artist, album, etc to be erased for some reason and then dumps the music into the unknown artist folder while leaving a broken link to the original artist and album folders.
this is a complete pain in the butt because I have over 22000 songs, and about .05% are displaced so we're talking about 110 songs that i have to go in individually and double click the song then choose to find the find and go through this entire list to find the exact song. What if 2% of my collections goes the same way I'm screwed.
