HT1459 Unable to charge now that iPod Touch 1st gen unless I find the 'sweet spot'. Some times battery drains while charging. Help, please!
I have a 1st gen iPod Touch and I am unable to charge unless I find the right spot when moving the connector head a bit. When I was able to charge, it would some times drain my battery. Now that it's completely dead, I can't find that right spot. Help??
is there someway i can test this.

is the logic board responsible for calibrating the battery and charging ,
It keeps track of the power and displays it in the upper right of screen.
could it drain the battery say by not switching the drive off i use to remember when shutting down after you swipe the red bar it would give you an icon animation of what looked like a wheel spinning and then a faint whirr and clicking like the drive is shutting down .
There is no moving drive. It's all solid state. What you were hearing is electronic sounds being generated from the logic board.
i still get the the icon and animation but i dont hear the click or whirring anymore suggesting that the drive isnt shutting off which may cause the drain but not the battery indication .
This even leads be to believe more that the problem is on the logic board.
do you think its worth pursuing this ?
If you could find a used logic board on eBay, it might be worth fixing, if you could get it cheap enough.

Unable to sync Videos to iPod Touch 1st Gen
Hi. I was trying to sync some movies to my iPod Touch 1st gen but it keep giving me this following error message.
"Movie" was not copied to the iPod "my iPod" because it cannot be played on this iPod.
However I tried the sync-ing the same movie to my iPhone and my newer iPod Touch 4th gen and it works. Only my 1st Gen iPod Touch couldn't sync it. Any solutions I could try? Thanks a lot!Hello, it happened to me before - except its my iPod 4th Generation. Most of my videos or movies can be synced though, there are only a few that doesn't work. I'm not sure about the cause of the problem, maybe something like the iPod and the movie format is not compatible or something.. If you tried almost everything and it still doesn't work, maybe try creating an iMovie project and import your movie into it, then just export the iMovie so it puts the video in another video.. Not sure if it'll work, but worth a try

I tried to restore my ipod through the ipod not itunes and it didn't finish,now the ipod is frozen on the apple icon and the little thing that goes around(?),my PC and itunes doesn't recognise the ipod and it switches off and on again after a few hours. After I purchased , downloaded it and installed it , my Ipod Touch 1st gen restarted and show connect to Itune but Itune does not recognize it, I restarted the PC, the Ipod, now I paid for something that I was thinking will be easy and make my life easy

IPod Touch 1st Gen Not Charging/Being Reconized
As the title says, my iPod Touch (1st Gen) will be reconized bu any computer or charge all in itself. I tried plugging it into multiple computers, nothing. I tried plugging it into the wall adapter...still nothing. It doesnt not get the charging symbol when I plug it into either places. The is actually the second time it happend. The first, well my cord was so worn, I guessed it was the cord and replaced it, worked just fine. The replacement happend very recently, like maybe 1-2 months ago. So right now, I would guess it was the cord, but its brand new. I have tried toing both a soft and hard reset of the iPod, nothing worked. If anyone could please help me, it would be highly appreciated.

When I attempt to sync my ipod touch 1st gen, it gives me a message that I am not authorized to sync on this computer and gives me my old user id. I don't use that old id and dont have access to the email address(no one does lol) and the security question is one that I would not even use. Anybody help?

Seems to be an Apple or FB app problem. Nothing you can do but wait for it to be fixed.

I can't get e-mails on iPod touch 1st gen. Error message that I have eithermy password or username is incorrect. Checked settings both are correct. Can get e-mails on iPad
Try deleting the account from the iPod and reentering the settings. It is easy to make an error and notbe able find it.

Ipod touch 1st gen MAJOR issues HELP!
My hubby dropped his 16gb ipod touch 1st gen on the floor. It landed face down. It was working fine until the battery ran out and since then it will not hold a charge. I reset it last night and it finally charged over night (plugged into the wall) it said it was fully charged this morning but after it was unplugged it was working fine except the internet would not work. It would not connect to our wireless internet. (I have an 8gig second gen that works dandy no issues so i know its not my internet.) He had his ipod on for 20 minutes it got broiling hot and the battery was back at being almost dead. We shut it off let it cool down and then we've had it plugged in all day ( it's plugged in my computer now) and just keeps saying its got 10 minutes remaining on the battery. I restored it twice through itunes and updated it and it still will not charge but will stay on if its plugged in the computer or the wall saying its charging... also the internet still will not work. it will for a few seconds pick up my wireless but with only one bar but will not let me try to connect to it. It tells me it can't connect. Then, the signal comepletely disappears again. It won't find any wireless at all. I even went upstairs and sat in front of the modem lol. I've tried everythihng known to man and am out of ideas. Is the thing screwed? Someone please help....
Sounds like something came loose or exposed. From what i read, it looks like your battery is losing it's charge quickly. My advice would be to take it in to a local apple store and see if they can fix it or run a diagnostic. Unfortunately, if i had to guess i'd say there's a hardware problem since your battery is dying so fast and is having charging problems. Good luck.

IPod Touch 1st Gen and 3.1 update DELETES volume slider
I had a perfectly working iPod Touch 1st Gen/16GB until I updated to 3.1 software. Now I do not have a volume slider.
Yes headphones are in but there is no place to adjust the volume. There is previous, next arrows and play and pause AND its centered in the rectangular area, but no volume slider.
I have restored it 3x in various ways. I have tried 5 times to downgrade the operating system but ALWAYS get an error, so it never completes. Of course the ipsw files where found using google because there isn't any links that work on Apple's site for previous iPhone software. If I try to restore to 3.1 right after that it goes through perfectly.
So it seems that Apple has locked out downgrading once you upgrade! All I want is my volume slider back. How can I get it back if 3.1 deletes it everytime and I can't go back to the previous operating system?
Thank you.I too have had this exact same problem, except that I was running 3.0 and hadn't updated to 3.1. I put my ipod on the table overnight, after listening to it, and when I picked it up the next morning, theres no volume slider. I never even unplugged the headphones. Double clicking the home button while on the home screen would bring up the popup to skip songs, and there it says "Dock Connection" even though it not connected to a computer. Multiple reboots an no effect. I've tried different sets of headphones, to no effect. Its like the iPod isnt detecting them being plugged in. The worst part is i DO get sound in the headphones, but no volume control, and the sound level is turned really low. So the headphones ARE working.
I updated to 3.1 just now, and the problem has NOT been fixed. Theres no way anywhere in the settings to adjust the volume. Theres only a limit slider, so I have no way to turn up the volume loud enough to actually HEAR things. -

I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.

P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.Yes, I have contacted them. They are who told me to try a few of the "fixes". They actually said they had never heard of this error, or any problems relating to his download. Also, when I was talking to them, they came here to this forum to find the answer...:/ This is why I am asking here. I was hoping someone had an idea I hadn't tried already.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
