After a catostrophic crash how do I download my music back to itunes from my ipod?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

  • Hard drive crashed and need to transer songs back into iTunes from my iPod

Help! I'm a newbie to this site, so I don't know if this question has been asked before, so please forgive me if it's been posted 1,000 times! My hard drive crashed so I had to have everything reinstalled on my laptop. I've got iTunes back, but it won't allow me to transfer my songs from my iPod into iTunes- I know Apple doesn't want people sharing their iPod libraries with each other so that we'll all still pay for songs, but I don't want to lose everything on my iPod or have to pay for the songs I bought again to get them back into iTunes. Is there any way I can get iTunes to download the songs back into it from my iPod? I heard of Senuti, but that only works for MAC users, and I'm on Windows XP. Any suggestions? TIA!

    1) Make sure you can view hidden files. In MY computer go to tools>folder options>view>show hidden files and folders.
    2) Windows should see the ipod and your music should be on your ipod in several hidden folders. To be safe I would copy it all to say your desktop.
    3) Install Itunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and the Ipod updater http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ (if you don't already have it installed)
After that drag the copied folder to Itunes (drag and drop or in Itunes (File>add folder to library)
    4) Plug ipod back in Itunes should see it and want to delete the contents say yes as it should all now be in your library.
YOu may need to authorise Itunes music store again by playing one of the purchased songs and than logging into your account.

    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • HOW DO I GET MY SONGS BACK TO ITUNES FROM IPOD?

I recently had an incident with my Macbook which lead me to erase and reinstall Leopard. Obviously everything whats erased including my itunes songs. All of those songs are still on my iPod, so how do i transfer them back into my iTunes? I have the same login info and account. Shouldnt it recognize my iPod and allow me to just drag the songs back in? Help is much needed... thank you to all!

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Windows PC crashed, how do I get my music back once machine is defaulted?

My Windows PC has crashed and I think I need to reload the operating system to factory defaults. Does anyone know please, how I get my music back that I have purchased through iTunes once it is back at default?

From your backup copy of your computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good at all), then you can transfer from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases
From the itunes store terms of service:
"PRODUCTS CAN BE DOWNLOADED ONLY ONCE; AFTER BEING DOWNLOADED, THEY CANNOT BE REPLACED IF LOST FOR ANY REASON. YOU SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BACKING UP YOUR OWN SYSTEM, INCLUDING ANY PRODUCTS PURCHASED OR RENTED FROM THE ITUNES STORE THAT ARE STORED IN YOUR SYSTEM."

  • Ipod repaired, HD crash - How can I get my music back

My Ipod touch was sent in for repair a couple weeks ago - it just stopped turning on. They sent me a new one but it doesn't have any of my apps or music on it. While it was out for repair, my hard drive crashed. Father in law is still working on recovery, but if he cannot recover my music, am I out of luck? Doesn't Itunes keep a record of what you purchase? Do I really have to purchase it all over again?

    am I out of luck?
basically, if you don't have a backup, you are.
maybe the the following post by Zevoneer, though slightly off topic, will be useful:
Did you back up your purchases before you you reinstalled your system? If you erased your drive then the purchases will have been erased along with everything else. If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from (as you are advised to do) then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
*You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download*. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on this link you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
If you have an iPod that still has the purchases on it the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

  • HT4914 how do I download my music back onto my phone?

After the ios 6 upgrade on my iphone 4 all of my itunes were uploaded to itunes match/icloud. How do I download itunes again so it is resident on my iphone? I've already tried turning off itunes match on my phone, but no luck.

Did you back up by burning a regular Data DVD in iTunes or by dragging the files to the disc through Windows Explorer and burning in another program? If you did then open iTunes and go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and make sure you have the box "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked. Insert your DVD and got to File>Add Folder to Library and choose your DVD from the navigation box: Adding Content to iTunes
If you used the iTunes back-up facility in File>Library>Back up to disc then iTunes should recognise the DVD as a back up when you load it up and ask you if you want to restore your tracks from the disc.

  • How do I download purchased music in the cloud to my ipod classic

Since I purchased a new ipad all my music from itunes gets placed in the cloud. How do I download it to my ipod classic through my pc.  Useto be able to drag and drop purchases into ipod but new update changes all of that.

The only way to recover your camera roll photos from an iCloud backup is to restore the backup to your phone.  What you can do is back up your phone to your computer using iTunes, then restore the backup and save the recovered photos, then restore the backup you made on your computer to get back to where you are now.  To do this, do the following:
Connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Tranfer Purchases.  When this finishes click on the name of your phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now.
Eject your phone from iTunes and disconnect it from your computer.  Go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud backup and follow the prompts, choosing the backup of your old phone to restore to.  Be sure it is connected to wifi and your charger as it is restoring the backup.
When the backup finishes, import the recovered camera roll photos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of your phone in iTunes and click Restore Backup, choosing the backup you made at step 1 to restore from.  This should return your phone to it's current state.
If you want the photos you recovered on your phone, put them in an event in iPhoto, then select the event to sync to your phone on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and sync your phone.
You can't change the scrolling behavior of your phone.  In time it will seem natural.

  • How can I get my music back into iTunes after erasing my disk?

I had to reinstall Windows XP, erasing everything on the hard disk. I had saved the music files with backup software, so I now have them back. But iTunes won't add them to my library. I tried importing songs from a new CD to see where iTunes put those files, and then copying an album folder into the same location. But Windows wouldn't copy the files inside the foder. Nearly all the songs were originally taken from CDs in my collection, and the songs are still on my iPod Nano.

    Wow,
Wonder why XP won't let you copy files?, perhaps you used a different user name?
Or these are the old DRM versions of the songs? You should be able to log into your iTunes account and authorize the computer and iTunes should recognize the songs.
Well since you have the iPod Nano, you can head over to iLounge and ask them what current third party software works to move your iPod Nano music back to iTunes.
Hope that works out for you
