HT1481 Ipod nano flashes off and on and will not reset.

This has been such a mess. This was a Christmas present and I can't get it to work. How do I get this to work?!!! This is my first Apple product and I am not happy. The Ipod nano just flashes off and on. I have downloaded itunes but nothing has happened; it just flashes off and on with the Apple symbol on the screen. How do I fix this?!!

Hello janicon,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPod nano.  I would be concerned and frustrated with this as well.
I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Will not turn on or screen remains dark" and "Screen is unresponsive and displays Apple logo or white screen" in the following article.  If you are also not seeing your iPod in iTunes when your have your iPod connected, I recommend the section titled "iPod not recognized by iTunes or computer."

I have a ipod touch and it shut off and will not come back on. I have pluged it in and still get nothing what can i do?

Let it charge for an hour or two.
If it doesn't Coe back on, try a Reset.
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first).

  • Ipod nano firewire error and will not turn off! PLEASE help

I am having the exact same problem as I see may of you unfortunate Apple users are. I am receiving the error message about firewires and I have never used one. The nano will not turn off and I have to let the battery run out. The play/pause function works perfectly fine, but not to turn off the nano. The sleep function does not do anything either. I am so disappointed with Apple because they would not help me on the phonbe since it is well past my first 90 days of ownership. I may have gotten a single drop of water on it, but that was about 2 weeks ago, and still having the same problems. I don't know what to do, but I see that Apple has gotten mighty rich off of their JUNK products! Anyone out there, help me please!

Do a reset.  You will not lose any data: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If this does not help resore from a backup.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Lastly try restoring to factory settings.
If none of this works, it's probably a hardware problem.  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of your Apple store.  You are under warranty and they will fix or replace it on the spot.

  • My ipod touch is disabled and will not reset itself.

It is a friends and her kids locked it.  I have never had it on my computer but when I plug it in to itunes it just says it is locked and has to be unlocked before it will connect.  I have tried to reset it and it will not.  The screen says ipod disabled try again in 21,872,000 minutes.  Help I need to know what I can do

You'll need to connect the device to your iTunes library in recovery mode and restore it to factory settings.  See this article for instructions on getting your iPod Touch into Recovery Mode.

  • TS1382 My replacement iPod Nano is frozen and will not shut down or stop playing.  I cannot operate the touch or slide functions...truly frozen.

I have tried to reset the IiPod, but an unsure of how to properly reset the instrument.

To do a hard reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Volume down buttons together at the same time long enough for the Apple logo to appear. This may or may not work the first time around, so don't be afraid to try it more than once.
If you are still unable to get any sort of response, you'll need to let the iPod's battery fully drain.  Then charge it back up and see if things are back to normal.

  • TA44551 My 1-year ipod nano locked up and would not start overnight. The on/off button will not work and stopped holding charge. No water damage, no fall, nothing unusual. I restored it (twice) but it will still not hold charge and on/off does not work.

My 1-year ipod nano locked up and would not start overnight. The on/off button will not work and stopped holding charge. No water damage, no fall, nothing unusual. I restored it (twice) but it will still not hold charge and on/off does not work. I tried to restore it again and charged it in three different locations with different cables. etc but nothing. Suggestions?

    - After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod?  If yes, restore the iPod from backup.
    - If no, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

    Hey saintbless,
Thanks for the question. The following article outlines troubleshooting information for iPod nano. While it mostly refers to the 6th generation, most steps apply for your model as well:
iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3474
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
    - Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
    - If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting the device while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for at least eight seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
    - If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
    - If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I have an ipod nano 7th generation and can not get it recognised by my Windows 8.1 laptop (it appears briefly on My computer, then disappears). This happened after I updated iTunes to the latest version. Does that have something to do with it?

    Hello there, kiwilucea.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some in-depth steps for troubleshooting your issue:

  • My iPod froze fully charged on the lock screen for 5 minutes, then went off and will not switch back on?

My iPod froze fully charged on the lock screen for 5 minutes, then went off and will not switch back on?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPhone has switched off and will not turn back on

mmy iPhone 5c was working perfectly fine this morning whilst I have been in work. But when I left work and checked my phone in my pocket it had switched itself off and will not turn itself back on. I have tried to plug into charger but still not turning on

    Hi Kate,
It must be very frustrating to be unable to use your iPhone since it won't even power on. Let's see if we can get things back up and running.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
Start with the section titled If your device still won't turn on or start up.

  • Ipad 2 locked up when updating iOS 8.1.3 today and will not reset or even turn off

went to update iPad 2 from iOS 8.1.2 to 8.1.3 and it froze while updating.  Then error it could not update because of problem.  But it is locked on screen with cord to iTunes and will not reset or turn off.  Can't get to screen to do reset in iTunes or anything.  help

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has never been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

Does it power on if you plug in the charger?
But to be honest I see in your description it says 'Late 2011' so there is a good chance you have warranty right, I would take it to Apple store and let them sort it out

my phone just turned off and will not go back on. my top lock button has been broken for over a year. Help! I have tried plugging it into wall unit and computer but my home button just doesnt do anything!

It seems that year long delay from having your lock button repaired has finally caught up to you.  Sounds like you have some damage to your phone that requires repair/replacement.  Take it to a Apple store or contact Apple Tech Support.
