HT1510 my iPod shuffle 4th gen won't charge or show up in iTunes

my iPod shuffle 4th gen won't charge or show up in iTunes when i plug it in to the back of the computer and when the off/on switch is halfway it gives me a solid red light on the iPod battery status light for about five seconds does anyone know what to do

If you connect it to the Mac with iTunes NOT running, and run Disk Utility, does it appear in the sidebar as a "disk"?  Also, you can run System Profiler or System Information (depending Mac OS X version).  It is in Applications/Utilities/, but you can also run it from the About This Mac window.  Does the shuffle appear as a device under USB?
The red light when you move the power switch to ON means very low charge in battery.  That probably means the battery is not getting charged when connected.  In terms of hardware, that could mean a bad USB port on Mac, a bad USB cable, or a bad connection on the shuffle.  In any case, power is not getting to the battery.  It might be a bad battery, but if that was the only problem, I think the shuffle would still appear in iTunes when connected.  That's why asked if it appeared in Disk Utility or System Profiler/Information; if it does, the connection is working (even though iTunes does not see it for some reason).
You can make sure the USB port is working by using something else that is similar (like a USB flash drive) on the same port.  If you happen to have another USB cable, you also try to rule out a bad cable.

  • IPod touch 4th gen that wont charge or show up in itunes.

I have an iPod touch 4th gen. that wont charge. When I plug it in, it shows the battery with a little red at the one end and a lighting bolt ( the usual screen when charing the itouch after it is completely dead). I have left it in pluged in for a few hours but it never actually charges. Also when I plug it into my computer Itune won't recongnize it. The cords work fine I tested them with my other Ipods and everything worked liked normal. I have tried to restart it by holding the power and home button together but that doesn't seem to help either (again probably because it is dead). Thanks for the help.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • New ipod shuffle 4th gen won't charge or turn on or show up in itunes

Received a 4th gen ipod shuffle as a gift, plugged it in straight away synced a song on to it, listened to it. Left the ipod alone for a day, came back to it and it won't turn on, charge, or show up in itunes?
Tried resetting it, did nothing. Tried to get it to be replaced but apparently servicing and replacement isn't available in my area? ( yeah, what?)
    What do i do?

  • Ipod shuffle (4th gen) won't charge?

I didn't use my shuffle for about three months and now it won't charge. I've tried charging it with my 13" macbook pro using a genuine apple cable that I know works

Double check the connection to the headphones jack, to make sure the plug is fully inserted into the headphones jack as seen in this document
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3572
Other than that, since the light does not come on at all, there is no power going to the shuffle.  The possible causes are (1) problem with USB port not working or not providing sufficient power, (2) faulty USB cable, or (3) problem on the shuffle, such as a bad headphones jack or logic board.
For (1), try it connected to a direct USB port on the computer (not a hub) with other USB devices disconnected.  If it does not work that way, connect something else to the same port to confirm it is working, preferably something similar like a USB flash drive or bus-powered external drive.
For (2), you said you know the USB cable works, but the only way to confirm it works is to use it to connect another shuffle, or to get another cable to try with your shuffle.  If you have an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation at the Genius Bar, and have the Apple tech give it a try with their cable.
If you have ruled out (1) and (2), it is more likely to be (3).

My ipod shuffle (4th gen) don't works after hard reset with itunes, it don't reads too like USB by Windows.
Before that i've seen error (-50) in iTunes, so i reset ipod.
I've read all tips on this site, but nothing helps me.

No, USB works good. I've tried reset on my friend's PC, and it saw my ipod and reset was done. But when i tried to load music, it wrote me, that i've installed incorrect software.

ipod shuffle 4th gen device does not appear in latest version iTunes

Mine is not recognized by PC-Windows, nor Itunes, and not by the "Mass Storage Device" removal Icon.  I've done all the diagnostic tests, Uninstalled Itunes then reinstalling, etc.etc to no avail. Yet never had a problem with old generation Ipod, (died of old age) and Gloria's Ipod after two plus years is going strong with never an issue.  I belive Apple is having significant problems with the 3/8 inch shorter newest Ipod generation.  If your Ipod is still under warranty you need to call Apple support.

  • My iPod Touch 4th Gen won't charge?

Well I've had my iPod Touch 4th Gen since it came out it will be 2 years old in October. Yesterday I charged my iPod while listening to music. I took it of when it was charged and used a little it became half dead so I put it on my charger. I realized there was no indication of it charging? I placed on all of the chargers in my house and the same problem. I haven't tried connecting it to my Mac, but I did try turning on and off but still won't charge. Does anyone know if I can fix this?

    - Try connecting it to yur computer and se if it charger and it it appears in iTunes
    - Try another cable
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalites like bent or corroded contacts, crackd or missing plastic pieces or foreign material.

  • IPod Classic 4th gen won't charge

So i got a iPod of ebay and it came with roughly 75% charged, when i plugged it in to my computer it reacted fine, i then reset the iPod to the default settings and it asked my to connect it to a wall plug, not having a firewire on hand i just used my 10 W iPad charger and it booted up fine i then thought i'll leave it to fully charge, i did this ans went off and came back about 1-2 hours later and the screen said "Charged" so i disconnected the iPod and on the screen it actually had less that 75% about 50% now, i was confused to why it wasn't working, so i plugged it in to my computer and it worked fine but i noticed that it said that it was fully charged in the top corner, i put some music on it and my brother came with his firewire charger so i thought this will react to it the battery is no on about 15% i try my 10 W charger in his iPod classic 4th gen and it worked fine. so my iPod then dies and i plug it in to my 10 watt charger and nothing happens, i plug it in to the firewire and it comes up with the low battery symbol on a loop, after reading many online articles i decide the battery is busted and get another battery, i get the battery and i change it over no problem. iPod boots up fine, however it still does not charge when connected to 5W 10W it just says "charged" when it is not and when i connect it to the 12W firewire nothing happens. Does any one have any ideas whats going on? Could it be the logic board?
I should also say my brothers iPod classic 4th gen works fine on all 3 chargers plus computers.

Looks like yor iPod battery need to be replaced

FYI, you should  charge the iPod Classic, for at least 2 hours, using a USB 2.0 port at the back of the Desktop, or if you are using a Mac the USB port on the body of the Mac and not those on the keyboard, (these dont have enough power to charge the battery, which need at least 450mA current)

  • My ipod touch 4th gen. won't charge or reset or come one at all.

Please help.  I have a ipod touch 4th gen.  Yesterday it died, battery ran down, and i've not been able to get it to do anything.  The screen shows the battery with red, but it's really faint.  I've tried to reset/restart it several times, but it still does nothing.  I plugged it up to the computer, hoping to reset it via itunes... nothing.  I left it plugged up to the computer for several hours hoping it would charge....nothing.  Tried the docking station to charge it, nope.
The battery has run down before and i've been able to charge it with no problem.  I don't know what's different this time.  Is there a way to do a factory reset or something like that to just completely reset the whole thing?

    Hello there baku_k,
It sounds like your iPod shuffle just isn't being seen in iTunes no matter what you do on your PC running Windows 8. Without knowing the exact troubleshooting you have done, I would recommend that you look over the troubleshooting steps in the following article to help you determine what may be happening, named:

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen won't charge.

It's been about a month now that it won't charge at all. I've tried it on every single cable that I have, but it still won't charge. It won't charge when it's plugged into the wall outlets nor on my PC and MacBook. So I had turned off my iPod and told myself that I would have someone take a look at it for me, but I have completely forgotten about it.
I bought this ipod about more than a year ago, so my warranty is over. I'm not sure if I can even go into the apple store and ask the Genius' for help.
Recently, just today, I had turned it back on in hopes of trying to see if it would charge again. I plugged it into my MacBook and surprisingly it charged, however, only for a short 10 minutes, then after it finished syncing, it stopped charging and disconnected itself from iTunes. Messing around w/ the cable cord, I moved it a little and it started charging again, this time only for about 2 minutes. Then it stopped charging and disconnected itself from iTunes again. And now I cant get it to charge at all. I've tried putting it into DFU mode, it doesn't work since I can't connect to iTunes. So I tried turning it off while it was still plugged in and it just restarted. I unplugged it, turned it off and it shut down completely; then I plugged it back in, and it would turn back on, but it won't charge.
I don't know what the problem is exactly. If anyone can help, that would be much appreciated. I'm not really looking towards purchasing another iPod anytime soon. /:
Meanwhile, I'm just going to leave it off as to not drain the battery.

  • My ipod shuffle 2nd gen won't charge

I've got a problem with my ipod shuffle 2nd generation.
When I connect with computer to charge, it flashes green twice then goes to orange and flashes quickly and then back to green and orange and then cuts off completely without connecting to itunes.
It then goes on to state in itunes: 'Itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes'.
I am fearful that restore means that my songs will be erased. Songs that I downloaded a few years ago and are no longer on my computer. Is there anything else that I can do?
    Thank you.

by the way I'm using a macbook with osx lion

  • Sometimes my iPod shuffle (4th gen) won't turn on. Though the battery is fully charged. I usually connect my iPod to the mac so it will turn on. Why is that?

If i not use my ipod for a times, it will turn off automatically and won't turn on. Please give the answer. My ipod is new.

    - Connect the iPod to your computer and try to make a backup
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    - Next reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
and try making a backup again. If you can't then there is no way of getting the info off the iPod unless data recovery company can do it. Not cheap.
    - If photos are in an existing iPod backup (iTune>Preferences>Devices  for iTunes backup or an iCloud backu) then restore from that backup. See the restore topic of:
    iOS: How to back up
    - If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:

  • IPod shuffle first gen won't charge or sync with iTunes

When I connect my shuffle to the mac, iTunes won't recognize my it anymore. No light even comes on to show that it was charging, as if it wasn't connected. I decided to charge it to an outlet, but still, there was abolutely no light on the iPod. I know it never got wet, and I can still listen to music, but the back cover (that protects the battery, circuit board, etc.) came off when I dropped it recently. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

A 1st gen shuffle does not have a "back cover."  Are you referring to the flat piece that moves as the shuffle's power switch?  If so, you should be able snap it back on.  It may have been damaged internally by the impact of being dropped, but it should not be damaged only because that piece came off.
A 1st gen shuffle is getting pretty old at this point.  The most common failure point is the built-in full USB plug on that model.  It wears out over time, from being plugged and unplugged.  At some point, it can lose its ability to connect for power and data.  If the problem occurred at the same time as being dropped, that could have damaged an internal connection between the USB plug and the logic board.
It could also be a problem on the logic board.  The battery also wears out, but I don't think that's the cause in this case, because you should still get some kind of light when you connect it, if it was only a worn out battery.
It's probably not worth the cost of repair, if you have a shop do it.  Plus, even if you find a shop that will do it, the repair parts they would use at this point would likely be salvaged from other used shuffles (that are broken for some other reason).  You can get a brand new shuffle with one-year warranty, more storage, new headphones, and new features for $50.
