My apple tv stuck at setting date and time. Also when connecting yo network doesn't ask for network password

I just went through this last night. (Aug 15, 2013)
What I did to get back up and running. This is not the first time I have lost the network connection with my Apple TV 3
Products effected: Apple TV 3 and Home Sharing (My Apple TV 1 was not effected)
Power down (unplug) the Apple TV and power down your router ( in my case, it is a FIOS router, flipping the on/off works fine).
Power both items back up.
At this point, I usually can reenter my Apple ID and PW. and reconnect Home Sharing.  But for some reason I was unable to reconnect last night but was able to get it reconnected in the morning. I was jut to tired to deal with it last night.
A new issue that is was able to fix after a good nights sleep.
I did figure out, (after trying to reenter my ID and PW many times and having it tell me that my ID and PW was wrong), that when using the Apple TV on screen keypad to type in the user ID. DO NOT use the ".com" keypad button. Instead type out each character for .com. ( or what ever ending you use for your ID account.)
Once I typed out my full ID and PW. everything is back to 100%

Tried to fix it with all the options you gave me on forum. Turned off, turned on, changed router, changed router settings and security level, even changed the ATV. Nothing works. Last week everything was fine. What should I do?

  • HT1595 how do i access apple tv when screen is stuck at setting date and time

how do i access apple tv when screen is stuck at setting date and time, have unplugged system, restarted router....

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Also try restarting the router.
If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If this is a new Apple TV, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.

Apple TV stuck on setting date and time

I read in another discussion that you can turn off your routers firewall temporarily and it will work. I did that. I turned off my apple tv (3rd gen) and then I turned off my routers firewall. Then I turned my apple tv back on and made sure the time setting was set to automatic. Then it let me set my iTunes login and everything was fine. I turned my firewall back on and it all works now. Try that. I'm not saying it will work for everyone, but it worked in my case.

  • HT1595 Stuck on Setting Date and Time

Will not set Date and Time (just keeps trying).

I was able to get my Apple TV working again by downgrading the firmware following the instructions in this message:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20008613#20008613
In case that message disappears, here's my translation:
    1. Connect your Apple TV to your computer via USB. Don't plug in the power cable.
    2. Download the older 5.0.2 firmware from Apple here:
    5.0.2 (Apple TV 2): AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
    5.0.2 (Apple TV 3): AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
    3. Open iTunes and select the Apple TV. Hold down the option key and press the restore button at the same time.
    4. In the dialog that opens select the firmware that you downloaded.
    5. The restore process will take a few minutes. Once it's done plug your Apple TV back into your TV. If the date and time message persists just press the menu button to skip it. This got mine working again.

  • Apple Tv is stuck on setting date and time.

I have my Apple Tv hooked up to my cellular network and it won't go passed the setting date and time screen. any ideas why it's not working?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I don't have an answer to your specific question but trying to use the Apple TV with a cellular connection is not advisable, you will use up your monthly allowance in minutes.

  • Stuck on setting date and time

Apple TV is new, straight out of box.  I'm getting to the screen that says "Setting date and time. . ."  Then it stays stuck there.  If I bypass this screen, everything except date and time is set up, and because this is not set up, nothing is working.  All other devices hooked up to wifi in the house are working and I've unplugged and reset the Apple TV and the router.  How do I get this device to set the date and time?

    Also try restarting the router.
If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If restoring from the Apple TV doesn't help, try restoring from iTunes using a USB cable.
If this is a new Apple TV, in addition to trying the above, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.

  • HT1551 Stuck on "setting date and time" after a system upgrade

I have tried everything recommended including disconnecting power. Just keeps churning on setting date and time.

I believe this is a connectivity issue.
First, make sure you're connected properly via either wi-fi or ethernet.
When setting up Apple TVs for my school district deployment, we had this issue with units connected via Wi-Fi.  We resolved this problem by creating firewall exceptions.
If you're setting up a unit for home, you could try creating exceptions in your router for the Apple TV.  Alternatively (to test), you could set your Apple TV as the 'DMZ' device which should expose it sufficiently to see if your networking is getting in the way.

  • My apple tv keeps saying setting date and time

My apple tv keeps saying setting date and time

This vexed me for a long time. Now we finally have a fix!
All credit goes to Ed Gainer, our Network Admin.
Version update 5.2.1 (6025) seems to have changed the way its searches for time. According to the Apple website’s list of ports used by Apple, the time protocol NTP would normally communicate via TCP or UDP. This was the case in previous versions, but when the update for 5.2.1 was introduced, the Apple TV displayed a “Searching for Time and Date” indicator upon restart. The only remedy was to select “Menu” on the Apple Remote. At that point, the main menu now only displayed “Computers” and “Settings” options. All the icons for other online content options such as YouTube, HuluPlus, Vimeo, etc. were missing.
After running a packet trace the ports, NTP (123), DNS (53) and ports 49152 – 65535 were used in booting the Apple TV. After some trial and error it appears that the Apple TV is searching for the time via the NTP protocol through UDP. When port 123 was opened in the firewall over TCP/UDP it still did not communicate. The solution was to specifically indicate the NTP protocol over UDP. Keeping the NTP protocol specified via TCP is also recommended.
The resolution to this problem was to create a service group for Apple including the following services.
    Name
    Protocol
    Source Ports
    Destination Ports
    NTP
    UDP
    Default (0-65535)
    123
    http
    TCP
    49152-65535
    80
    https
    TCP
    49152-65535
    443
Additionally, it is recommended to include these services in the group to encompass all of the Apple products in your environment.
    Name
    Protocol
    Source Ports
    Destination Ports
    NTP
    TCP
    Default (0-65535)

  • Stuck on "setting date and time" page-tried hitting menu to reset network, but it stays on the setting date and time page.  Any advice?

Anyone know how to fix this? It's reading the remote because the light is flashing when I click on many, but it's staying on the "setting date and time" page.  Any workaround here would be great.  Thanks peeps!

This is indication of a network issue... .ensure that the DNS settings are set to Automatic.
If the ATV is not responding to the remote, start by unplugging the device then plugging it back in.  If it still fails to respond, restore via iTunes on the computer.

  • Stuck on "setting date and time" why is it doing this and I cant move to any other screne?

My question is the subject line.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There are reasons related to settings why it may not be able to connect to the network time server, however if your Apple TV has previously connected using the same settings these won't apply.
If your Apple TV has previously connected OK, you might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds, or even a factory restore.

  • Cannot get pass the "Setting date and time" screen

Hi, I am faced with a very serious problem... someone please help!
I bought home an Apple TV (2nd generation) for my parent overseas, but when I switched on - it got stuck on "Setting date and time" screen and cannot continue. Pressing "menu" button (or hold on for many seconds) does not work at all! I am stuck in that screen. Restart the Apple TV does not helped.
I thought it is the issue of the remote control (maybe "menu" key has failed), so I bought another one (the aluminum model) and the same issue persists! I tested the remote control on Mac (boot up and press menu key, using Better Touch Tool... both shows the menu key is working).
    What shall I do? Thanks!

is it connected to the internet either wired or wirelessly
