The Nook reader version 2.1.2 runs on the iPod touch 1st gen. I also have the Borders e-book app from Kobo, but it's no longer available in the App Store and the version available looks like it need iOS 4 to run. I'm not finding any new apps that will run on the 1st gen so it looks like I'll have to upgrade at some point. Hope this helps!

First of all, the page I referenced previously, http://support.apple.com/kb/SP3 states that the Touch requires iTunes 7.6. So to your question:

Well, we don't know yet, but did you do as I suggested in my post on 15th Dec, and have you then checked out the links provided by lllaass? Namely:
A. have you tried disconnecting and re-connecting the iPod again? This is the simplest thing you can do. My Touch is sometimes not recognised the first time I plug it in. I unplug it and try again. Sometimes I have to do this two or three times.
B. go to Apple page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495 - (iPhone, iPad, or) *iPod touch:* Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
C. go to Apple page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 - (iPhone, iPad, or) iPod is not recognized by Windows due to driver installation issues
You should do the above points, A,B & C before assuming that iTunes 10 doesn't work with a 1G Touch because as far as I can see, it should. You should also stop believing every negative thing people post on these forums.
I've made a suggestion or two, based on my experience and lllaass has suggested you check out two Apple documents that specifically discuss iTunes not recognising an iPod, the exact problem you are experiencing. That suggests that the symptom is known about and that Apple probably have a cure for it.
All the non-working links and "compatibilty charts" you've found (but I cannot) should be ignored, along with hearsay, because it's all "Red Herrings". It _will and is_ mis-leading you.

i have a 32GB 1st generation ipod touch that i feel like it's a waste of money me. i can't really do anything with it. is there anyways that i can get it trade or exchange for some money. i brought my ipod for around $600 when it first came out. i at least want to get half of the price in return.

Usually when i download something my ipod flashes download and it shows the time left on the top of itunes. Nothing happens today and it just stays on the instructions page. When I hit done it takes me to the appstore on my mac! HELP!!!!!

IOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)

I have purchased this update from the iTunes store but there's no indication that it is downloading and the ipod is not updating. Verbatim, the screen in iTunes (including an incomplete second sentence) reads:
Your update is now downloading. This can take 30 minutes or more on a typical broadband connection.
Once the download is complete
Please do not disconnect your iPod touch until the update is complete.
I have allowed probably up to 90 minutes on several occasions to download the update but still see nothing. Current download speed at broadbandreports.com is 14 mb/sec.
If I try to repurchase the update, iTunes tells me I've already bought it, but clicking on the download option is no different.
Any advice much appreciated.

I have been attempting desperately to update the software on my first generation iPod touch, but iTunes continues to tell me that the 2.2.1 software is the most up to date version. I know this cannot be true considering the iPhone 4 software is currently be offered as a free update.
Without any further updates, I can no longer use many of my favorite apps. Is there some fix I can try to get my iTunes to update my software?
