HT1766 can I restore an icloud backup that i made months ago?

Hi Guys, I am looking for a whatsapp chat history that I had on my phone about 3 months ago.  My iPhone 4S was being backed up to iCloud then, so I am wondering if I can view or restore this backup that I made on iCloud to see the history.  When I restore my iPhone, it only shows the last 3 most recent backups from a couple of days ago.
Thanks,
Lola HK

When you create an iCloud backup, in most of the cases, the old one is overwritten and iCloud keeps the three latest backups, so the old ones were overwritten or deleted

  • Can you restore from a backup that was made on a previous version of iOS?

    Hello.
I had an iPhone 3GS unning whatever the latest proper version of iOS currently is at the time of writing (4.3.5, is it?) but on Saturday I was on a rather drunken night out and I lost my phone.
    Silly me.
But I was out of contract and the new iPhone (4S or 5 or whatever) is going to be announced on Tuesday next week (just been confirmed by Apple today) so I'm just going to make do with an old, spare Nokia until the new iPhone is available in the UK.
Once the new iPhone launches I will buy it, plug it into iTunes and just restore from backup and I'm back in business.
Except for one thing... The new iPhone will have iOS 5 installed and my last backup before I lost my 3GS was done on iOS 4.3.5.
Is this going to be a problem or can you restore from a backup made with an older version of the OS?
I've never done it before so I don't know.
    J

You "should" have no problem doing that. I say should, because you can't restore a backup made with a higher iOS on a device running a lower iOS, I.E. - you can't restore a backup made from a device running, let's say iOS 4.3.5 on a device running iOS 4.2.10. However, iOS 5.0 will present many new features and since it has not been released, I have no way of stating with certainty that doing as you plan will not present any problems. Past history indicates it won't, but we'll have to wait & see.

Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you can't restore. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • How can I remove an iCloud backup that is being used to restore a iDevice, How can I remove an iCloud backup that is being used to restore a iDevice

    Hello,
I purchased a new iPhone 5S yesterday and started to use a former iPhone 4S iCloud backup to restore it but as it took 2.5Go of "others" space I decided to reset the iPhone and start from scratch.
I have now properlly restored my new iPhone and would like to remove the old iCloud backup but when I try to erase it (from iCloud submenu or my Mac's iCloud "manage account") it says that it can't be removed as it is being used to restore an iDevice. Is there a way to do that ?
    Thanks in advance
    Boris

If the lock only came from restore of someone else's backup, you can get rid of that by doing factory restore. That will not help you if your story is not true.

  • Can I restore from iCloud backup to another device?

My iPod touch 4G logic board snapped in half after soldering it. If I buy a new iPod touch 4G or repalce the logic board can I restore all my purchases to that device or to that new logic board?
Do you also know where can I purchase a 4th generation logic board for a cheap price? My friend is planning on buying me a logic board of ebay for a cheap price, but there's no guarantee that he'll get it because he's up against a bot. Hopefully it isn't a bot.

    - Yes you can restore you replacement iPod from the iCloud backup of the old i{Pod.  Just restore via wifi from the backup and all the iTunes purchases and spme other stuff will be retored to the replacement iPod. You will have to reenter passwords and other keychain items since those are only restored to the same device.
    - That is how I set up my new iPhone 4S. I restored it at the Apple store via wifi from my 4G iPod touch. No problems.
    - I know of no good places for replacement parts.

  • Can I restore an iCloud backup from a different iOs version?

I have like all these backups from previous iPhones. My question is: Can I restore a backup of these on any iOS version or do I need to have the same iOS version that i had on those iPhones?

You can restore the backups to a device running the same or a newer iOS version, but not an older one. For example, if a backup was made from iOS 8.2, it can be restored to a device running 8.2 or 8.3, but not 8.1.3 or earlier.

  • How can I restore from icloud backup after activating replacement phone as new

I activated a replacement iphone 5. When I tried to restore from my iCloud backup, it said the os of the backup was not compatible with the replacement phone os so I chose the option to activate as a new phone. (Old phone was on 7 - replacement phone was sent to me with an earlier os).
Is there any way to restore my settings from my last iCloud backup?

Yeah - guess you're right. It just took me hours to figure out what to do/not do. New to iphones and never had to restore before. Maybe Apple could at least include the very simple instructions wjosten  posted. Would have saved me a lot of stress and time....
    Apple does provide instructions.
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
Note that iTunes and iOS do not support installing backups of newer versions of iOS onto devices using earlier versions of iOS.
iOS: Unable to restore from backup of a newer device
    Symptoms
When restoring an iOS backup to a iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that is not using the latest version of iOS, you may see the following behavior:
You cannot see or select the most recent backup from the list of available backups in iTunes or iCloud.
iTunes displays the alert "The backup [name] cannot be restored to this [iOS device] because the software on the [iOS device] is too old."
iTunes displays the alert "No backups available."
    Resolution
Update your device to the latest version of iOS to be able to restore the backup.

  • Can I restore an icloud backup of photos to another device

I had an iPhone 5 which was associated with one apple ID.  The last backup was the day before I purchased the iPhone 5s.  The new phone is associated with another Apple ID and backs up to the iCloud under the new Apple ID.  Can I retrieve the information from the old iPhone 5 by backing it up to a spare iPhone 4 so I can retrieve photos from it?  Or is there a way to get the photos from the iCloud backup to my Mac?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to get the photos of your backup directly to your Mac, but it is a good idea to use your old iPhone 4 to retreive your photos from the backup by restoring your iPhone 4.

  • How can I restore Google graphic, which I removed some months ago when they tried pushing images?

I would like to restore the Google Doodle to my Google homepage. Some months ago, when Google pushed pictures, there was a way to change a switch in Firefox to keep the pictures from showing. That also switched off the Doodle function. I'd like to know how to find the switch and what setting to use to restore the Doodle. Thanks.

Try clicking the Google emoticon in the web address, then click ''More Information''.
In the menu which appears, click '''Media '''and then click the Google web address to highlight it.
Then check to see if the box to block the image is checkmarked or not.

  • HT4859 how to restore from icloud backup

how can i restore from icloud backup....my manual back up in itunes keeps giving me a blank device w/factory apps

Restoring to an iCloud backup has to be done in the initial setup process.  If you have any data on your iPod now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  You will then go through the setup screens as you did when the phone was new. When given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • How to restore an iCloud backup?

If I've already restored my phone as new can I later restore my iCloud backup or do I have to start the whole process over again and restore from the backup at the beginning?
    Thanks.

You can only restore the iCloud backup during the initial setup, so open Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. During the setup, it will ask you to restore a backup, so select the option to restore the backup from iCloud and follow the steps

I had a new handset delivered today due to my old one being damaged. As I went to restore from iCloud backup it is telling me I can't due to the handset not having iOS 7.1. How can I resolve this issue?
Could I select 'Set up as New IPhone' and then update to iOS 7.1 and then proceed to restore the phone from my most recent iCloud  backup ?
Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated.

    Hi again razmee209!
It has been updating since your last message and it says there's another 6 hours to go, does this sound right or is there a possibility I've been sent a re-con and the update will slow down my new handset considerably?!
