I recently wiped my phone as I had over 10gb in 'Other'. I decided rather than restore the previous backup, I chose to set up 'new iphone'.
Is there any way to recover individual save game or apps from iTunes or iCloud backups (e.g. Angry Birds progress!)

Sorry, the restore from backup is all or nothing. No supported way to edit an iPhone backup.

I've found a solution to my problem.
Time Machine locates extenal HDD backups differently depending if they were done via a network or via a USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt connection.
My initial backup was done via a direct Thunderbolt connection. I ran into the above issue b/c the second time when I tried looking for the backup file the HDD was conencted to my iMac and I was accessing it via a network conenction.
I simply connected the drive directly to my MacBook pro and ... voila. I was able to see the backup, select the iPhoto library and begin the restore.

What does everything include?
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod, iPad, or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your Mac with your iTunes account with iTunes.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.

So.. I am on the verge of tears right now, I think I just lost over 1000 songs that I had on my phone..
I'm selling my old iPhone, so I backed it up and restored everything on the new one, but for some reason only 1 artist is in my library now. I went on my mac to transfer the full library from my old phone (which I had not wiped yet) and when doing so, iTunes overrode my library - I did not click anything that would give it permission to do so.
So now the library on both phones is the same.. only 1 artist, and I can't find the old phone's full library anywhere on the mac.
Is there any way to extract the previous library from the iPhone? I know you can do it on the mac itself, so there must be a way to do it on the phone too..

Backing up a phone doesn't include media. You can transfer iTunes Store purchases.

iTunes Store purchases can likely be re-downloaded directly to the new phone and/or the computer. Other media can only be transferred one way, computer to phone. iDevices are not intended to be the source for media. That is the job of iTunes on the computer. If you buy a new phone you can "restore" it from a backup then sync with the old library on the computer. If you attach a phone to a computer and that phone was synced with a different iTunes library previously it will offer to wipe the phone. There is a warning message this will happen.
Do you have one song purchased from Apple? It is possible if you only have one and it is automatically being downloaded to all your devices that would explain the one track. The rest of your music should be in your iTunes library on the computer. If it isn't then you will have to buy third party software to see what you can rescue. Sorry to have put this in the wrong forum, but I posted the question some time ago in the Time Machine forum and have had no responses...hence giving this a go.
I'd like to be able to restore individual photos from iPhoto in order to test backups without restoring the whole of my photo library. Is it possible to do this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks for your reply. I've had a go, but unfortunately that still doesn't work. Rather than the iPhoto Library folder being a regular folder (like it was in previous versions...I'm currently running version 8.1) it is a package, so that in order to see its contents, you have to right-click it to see the dated folders inside it.
This is fine in the regular Finder window, but in the TimeMachine screen, the right-click function is disabled, so I can't see any way of selecting the specific date that would enable me to restore only one or two photos....it might be that this is a problem I need to contact Apple about.
Finally, can I just say it did amuse me to see that Mr. Dee was helping Mr. Gee (puerile I know).

The iOS apps such as Stocks can't be deleted. You can move it inside a folder if it bothers you to look at it. Since there's room for >2200 more apps on the home screen, there's no real need to delete it.

Mark the names that you see in the apps man.. They should be like a000c1b.sis etc.
Connect the phone to your PC as USB mass storage device.
Open the drive in your PC.
In search option, write down the name, the files will appear, delete em.
Or, you can use 3rd party File explorer like explore to delete em.

iCloud syncs my contacts, calendars and reminders, but i have to setup all the rest of the settings manually! I have 7 email accounts, mix of gmail, hotrmail, yahoo, 2 exchange, others, etc. lots of personalized settings, Apps that i need to download again and arrange in folders like before, ......big hassle!!!

I have an iphone 5 and updated my phone to the lastest version (ios 7.0.3) last night. I can't download/ update any apps from the app store using my cellular network. The only error message is that the app cant be downloaded at this time. As soon as I click the download button, the image of the icon shows up with "Waiting" underneath the icon. I tried tapping on the app icon to pause the download but that isn't working. I have disabled Wi-Fi setting and enabled"the use cellular data" option in the itunes and app store setting page. Memory is not an issue because I have a lot of memory available. In the cellular setting page the App Store is enabled to use cellular data. It seems like it is a setting issue. What can be done to fix this problem

Thanks for your suggestion. Not long ago before I saw your response I tried to download the app and I seemed to have some progress (I had 5 bars and 1x). It looked it was 3/4 of the download complete only to have the same error message.
Since then I reset the phone and I have tried downloading the app when there 5 bars with 3g. Every time the icon has waiting underneath it and I get the same error message.

You are doing all that you cn do right now other than to update the apps in iTunes on your computer and sync them to the iPad.
There has been a problem with the App Store updates tab for a few days now and we are all waiting for Apple to fix it.
Look at all of the discussions on the iPad forum that are talking about this right now.

Vinod is correct in that you can build a new app that's iPad-only, but if you try to submit it as an update to the existing app, Neil is correct--Apple will reject it because it's considered a downgrade. You either need to stick to the universal app and do something like create a single iPhone folio that refers users to the iPad, or you need to submit it as a new app.
