HT1766 I am trying to restore my new iphone from a previous backup but itunes is asking for the backup password. But I never had one.

itunes is asking for a password for the backup that I did not set. I can NOT set up my new iphone and restore it from an old backup. What can I do?

This message is asking for the password that was added when the backup was first created IF you don't have this passcode you will be unable to restore from this backup.

There are tow ways you can handle this. One is to copy the notes to your computer using iTunes to send them to Outlook. The other would be to create or have an iCloud account so that the notes are synced online and then all you have to do is sign back in to get them. I read a way on another forum to fix this problem. Right click on the setup.exe and select "Run as administrator" this should solve your problem.

There is no help, if you don't know the encryption password, then sorry you won't be able to use your backup.

If you restore from your last backup, it will replace what you now have on your phone. If you set it up as new, you will have a phone just out of the box without any of your data on it. You can download any apps again. You can sync your music through iTunes.

You can keep trying to restore the device from backup until you remember the password. If you're having trouble, try:
Leaving the password field blank
Your Apple ID password
Your computer account password, if you have one
Email passwords you may have used
Your Wi-Fi network password
Website passwords you may have used
A password for hard-disk encryption software, if you use it

I have not tried that...I will look up the process so that I can do it correctly (and still transfer all of my files, contacts, etc). Any suggestions? What is the advantage of restoring as a new device..is this more akin to a complete wipe of a hard drive?

I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

I have this exact same issue. Replaced my iPhone 4s with the new iPhone 5s, setting up my new iPhone 5s to restore from iCloud. This completed and now I am unable to delete my old iPhone 4s iCloud backup (consuming 15.1 GB of my 20GB allocation). How can I delete it, so that I get my 15 GB back? Welcome to the Apple Community.
settings > general > reset > erase all content and settings, once complete the set up assistant will ask if you have an iCloud back up, follow on screen instruction to restore from it.

Thanks Brian- I am not connecting it with iphone teethering. I am using it with my DSL wifi.
I am using it with ethernet cable then its working fine.If i am trying to use it with WIFI then its giving error.
I tried using Netwrok testing but its giving same error.
